dire urgent situation caused it but i love ulraj using the medallion's powers to strike down argost, kinda showing what could happen if zak ever had a moment of weakness or a situation that would necessitate him using his own powers that way.
ulraj later says how he doesn't want the medallion back because "it's been proven unwise to leave so much power in the hands of one so young and inexperienced" and i am just sitting there like. well. ignore that the 11 year old standing next to you is the reincarnation of all powerful ancient evil.
but also zak does learn and grow so much throughout the series and he still makes mistakes but it is interesting to recontextualize that within where he is at the end, that it was better for HIM to have that power than argost, and the self sacrifice to make sure it never did happen, etc.
#tss tag#anyway this ep is rly interesting for setting the stage of the next generation of rulers?#ulraj taking over as king and we don't yet know zak as kur#but the difficulties of holding that much power#and the show explores that a lot - lost childhoods and proving yourself as an adult and so on#just such cool themes to see woven thru so well#like zak starts off trying to prove he's ready to fight with the big kids#and by the end it's like. shit he didn't ask for THIS much responsibility#none of them did#like each of the main 4 kids (excluding characters like tica but man she had to step up too!)#they're all successors to some legacy of responsibility#ulraj to kumari kandam and wadi to the hassi and francis to...#well he has his expectations lined up for him but we'll see what he decides in the end#and of course zak as kur even though his parents never meant for him to be#theyre all positioned so interestingly for those themes

Saw your post asking for TSS questions, so here's two: who's your favorite side character? And what's something you wish had been explored more in canon?
unfortunately i really like beeman. he does suck and all his actions in season 2 were wack but i connected to him super hard in season 1 and i think he (like all of the secret scientists, for as much as we get to see them) is interesting and complicated and. funny. also im a sucker for alien/ufology bs WHAT DONT I WISH WAS EXPLORED MORE IN CANON... it makes me so sad how the studio gutted the show bc there was so much cool stuff they could have explored. drew’s backstory, doyle and doc getting along and viewing each other as family, more stuff with abbey, how the secret scientists came to be (and most of the other ones like odele or the ones they mention in “paris is melting” who got fucked up by fisk), francis (and epsilon’s) whole deal and character arc, it would have been cool to see kumari kandam more or the hassi since we get to see ulraj and wadi hang out with zak so much, what the hell was going on with the shadow dimension the mondays were from
and this is admittedly a bit different than the direction the show was trying to go in i think but the fact that zak literally IS kur but he’s also zak. i think like. reincarnation stories are really interesting, especially when the person being reincarnated didnt even know it and theyre like their own person but theyre also technically at the same time this other person and how that works, i know jay stephens said the only way to keep zak 100% on the side of good was to blast the kur part out of him but like. he literally is inseparable from kur bc he Is Straight Up Kur. i think it’s just more interesting to have a story where zak is like “im zak but im also kur 2: the sequel to kur and you all just have to deal with that bc rip to kur 1 but im different” if that makes sense
#maybe it being a kind of karmic thing where the universe is like alright kur youre this 11 year old kid whos so determined to do good now.#have fun with that#the secret saturdays#secret saturdays#tss#tacticianlyra
