perhaps, for my thirties, it is time to harness my powers of not giving a solitary shit what people think of me and Learn Conversation by brute force and repetition, because hoo boy, my generation, the skill, she is lost

#and I am NOT the person to do this but sometimes I find myself in situations where it's just lord #somebody has to step up to the plate and I guess the only way to make that happen is to somehow develop the ability for that to be me #I'm not talking normal degrees of sociability that I can more or less do #I am talking being able to carry the whole shebang when nobody in the room is familiar with the yes-and principle #and you don't know any of the bastards (well) aurg #unfortunately it will have to be brute force afaik because the only person I could quiz about this is my grandmother #who is absolutely not graceful but sure is capable #but I don't know that I can figure out how to ask / am not sure I can helpfully explain the problem to her #idk though maybe she could direct me to books #did the southern ladies of the early 20th century write it down? maybe?#anyway as you can probably imagine I repeat I am not the person for this job #but jesus!#and you can't even say this is a host's job anymore either #because while it may be #hosts are also now doing all the physical logistics it's just not possible to do this even if you know to try
