Hammond Report November 18 2020 from Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Daily Music and Stories from the organist & accordionist Jon Hammond, today's story about playing and co-porducing "Art News Project" 1990 NYC recording sessions recorded at Kampo Cultural Center and Mixed & Mastered co-Produced by Joe Berger at Unique Recording Studios - the 3 German musicians flew over to JFK, Rolf-Dieter Schnapka, Uwe Gehring aka Wesley G., Arthur White aka Arthur Weiss - we picked them up at JFK, they left all the music charts in the taxi cab, yes! Joe and I were their chaperones, I had the receipt from taxi - after long call with NY Taxi & Limousine Commission I contacted owner of the cab, next morning waited for hours on corner by Madison Sq. Gardens, finally he came - I gave him 100 bucks, took music running to the studio and said "I got it!" sight read it down with the cats, also on the date Derrick James alto, Steve Thornton percussion - in loving memory of Onaje Allan Gumbs, Onaje played piano on the date and yours truly Jon Hammond at the Hammond B3 organ. 🎶🎙📼 #ArtIsAWeapon Fascinating #Blackmusichistory, reposted from @easymobee - LOST AND FOUND: #UnclaimedProperty The Story Of How 7,000 Unclaimed #SigmaSoundStudios #MasterTapes Were "Donated" To A College University😳 Back in 2005, a storage facility placed a call to #Philadelphia's #DrexelUniversity and asked if they would be interested in a "donation" to the college. The caller said that he had 7,000 master tapes in his possession, all labeled "Sigma Sound Studios." The studio, founded in 1968 by legendary audio engineer #JoeTarsia, led an intense search for all of the tapes' original owners before closing it's doors in 2003. All of the unclaimed tapes were then placed in a local storage facility in Philly. The tapes ended up as a "donation" to Drexel University's Music Industry Audio Archive and now serve as an educational tool for it's college students' music programs. In the bulk of the massive unclaimed tape load were multitrack sessions, outtake reels and final mixes by the likes of #SlyStone #DavidBowie #GradyTate #MillieJackson #StevieWonder #TeddyPendergrass and countless others. This crazy story brings another similar case to mind. In the year 2004, I can remember when #NYC's #UniqueRecordingStudios was closing it's doors and also led the same kind of search for the owners of tapes that were left at their studio. I got the call and immediately rushed down to their Times Square address and took ALL of my tapes out All the other unclaimed tapes went into a big green dumpster. Unclaimed property turned into garbage. Just like that. Smh. One man's junk is another man's treasure. Lost And Found. Also special shout to my lifelong engineers #EricLynch (@elynch2k3) and #DAnthonyJohnson (@toneycaponey) who recorded and mixed the album #DooBop. Love to my brothers #ABMoney (@officialabmoney) and #JR (@jr.rif) of #RappinIsFundamental who performed on the album with me. A very special R.I.P. to the late #FrancescaSpero of #RushProducersManagemnent (RPM) who in the words of #Scarface "put this thing together." She is the one who set up the initial meeting between me and Miles that took place at his Upper West Side apartment on Central Park West bet. 88th & 89th Sts. It was then and there that I first played him the cassette tape with a skeleton of what became #TheDooBopSong. It was also then and there when I played him #TheGenius' "True Fresh MC" and he asked me "Would you do that for me?" Of course, I replied "Yeah Miles." It's almost like he didn't believe me and he asked me one more time. I laughed and said "Yeah let's do it Miles." The album was recorded and he gave me me responsibility in titling every song including the title of the album. I could go on and on but the moral of this story is that when it comes to "blue checks" ...I was verified by this man in 1991. Before that I was also verified by #BigDaddyKane (@officialbigdaddykane) who gave me my 1st commercial entry into this music business.
