Hi Tech! What is your best advice for balancing course work and studying for standardized entrance exams? I’m a full-time university student who plans on attending law school after graduation, and I am planning on taking the LSAT (law school admissions test) in the summer. I’m getting nervous for taking this on since the semester starts in a few days. Thank you! And I love your content! 🥰
Glad to hear you love the content! I could research + imagine something about exams on Kamino to answer as Tech, but it would probably be more helpful to answer as myself. (Esp bc I mostly write Tech as my brother, who scored in the 99th percentile on all his standardized tests without any preparation) So, for the rest of us mere mortals who actually have to study:
Take a practice test ASAP. You won't do well on it. That's the idea. It gives you a baseline to work from, helps you let go of perfectionism, and provides a frame of reference for your studying. I can only speak for GRE and GMAT, but those tests are as much a performance sport as a preparation assignment. You have to ready yourself for the test conditions as much as the material. Continue taking regular practice tests. If that's too much, you can also take practice sections.
You have course syllabi, so you can map out every week until the end of the semester. Prioritize your time based on weight of each assignment toward your final grade. This prevents you from letting small to-dos take up more time than they should - which will inevitably eat up your LSAT study time. You often don't have to get 100% on everything in order to achieve straight As. For example, here's my next couple weeks of grad school. I'm focused on the 15% and 20% assignments (making sure I read the prompt the moment it comes out, going to office hours for questions, blocking time for deep work) but am not as stressed about the 5% ones. Let math be your friend here.
Tumblr media
3. Match study strategies to your space and time constraints. My trick to surviving an intense boarding school that "spring cleaned" the bottom performers every year: essay prompts in the a plastic folder in my shower, flashcards for vocabulary terms at meal times, memorization guides taped to the vanity mirror, and reviewing lecture notes right before bed. Once I got to college, I added in podcasts, youtube lectures, and audiobooks to make use of commute times and chore time. Speaking of which, I'm about to review my AI lectures last week via the Zoom recording while I do laundry and dishes. Good luck! I believe in you! ❤️

OLIVIE OH MY GOD I LOVE THE ANSWER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS YES SO MUCH LIKE SO SO SO MUCH. I loved each individual story and this book is tabbed an insane amount and sometimes there are 4 tabs per page- hold on I’ll include a picture at the end so you can see-lol I feel like normally I don’t show you because honestly no one should see evidence of my brain’s insanity but idk I feel like sharing this time? (Also please note I am Aries so just depending on my chaotic energy that day I will tab anything that I want. Sometimes it’s stuff that makes me laugh, things that I’m like oh maybe this is important, quotes I’m obsessed with, things that make me think, etc, I really just tab anything I want plus it helps me focus. I also just have some good old OCD that makes my brain decide that if I skip over tabbing something I even thought for one second should have a tab then the world is going to punish me somehow so then I must go back and tab it so that the obsession stops and the world (or at least the world in my brain) is at peace (love brains woo). This collection had me swooning at times, screaming at times (in both a OH MY GOD kind of way and an angsty my heart hurts kind of way), sad at times (I did tear up), laughing at times, and it just made me so happy. Anway, this book was truly the perfect way to end what I’m calling my Olivie year aka 2022 in general (I finished it on NYE it was perfect). I have not stopped thinking about this book since I read it. Writing this is going to be so hard because I have to leave out so many things that I loved just for the sake of space and time and everything, but hopefully one day I’ll get to see you on one of your tours again and talk your head off about it. (P.S please come to Pittsburgh for your TAC tour and celebrate in Libby’s hometown please-I know,I know you go where your publishers send you but still please)
I will say I will always have a special connection to this book (and the audiobook of LPM which I also listened to in December which was amazing the narrator was so good with all the accents and everything-refueled my love of Elisabeth and I still want one of the romance books on her and Jack hahah) just because December was an awful month on the top of an awful year and this book was really here when I needed it most. 2022 for me was a year of grief (it’s true what they say it always comes in 3s), failure, and just Murphy's law. Not one of my favorite years (I survived though as always so we are good now haha),but reading your books/watching your success this year were some of my happiest parts. I know I haven’t been here since the beginning or anywhere close to it but still seeing all your success made me so proud and so happy for you, you deserve it <3. I think fate let me find your books in 2021 because it knew I would need them in 2022. Enough with the mush for now, also you told me not to apologize about my rambling and I am holding my tongue not to, but I think I might make this one two parts-well three because Saints and Liars is going to get its own so if you have only time to day to read one part I suggest that one-to make it not so overwhelming (because I am incapable of just liking something to a normal degree)-but I should have said it towards one of the first ones please never feel like you have to actually reply to these they have always just been to hopefully bring you some happiness and appreciation that I hope you can feel through the screen more than anything. Also spoilers of course for any other people in the universe that may read this.
Oh wait I didn’t share but one of my best friends and I have a tradition of sending each other one of our favorite books of the last year and this was actually the one I sent her! I needed someone to obsess over it with me. She loved it too btw she texted me how obsessed she is with margoalec and cecilyporter she loves them so much.
Stone’s Throw: I was automatically intrigued just based on “trips and falls into another realm”. This felt very atlas vibes with all the dimensions/portals/ley lines. I just loved Salim and Jenny together, their relationship felt very soulmates/invisible string/the universe just drawing them together and you know I love those. The theme of them being mirrors of each other in some ways and two threads through the eye of one needle ugh I just love stuff like that I ate it up. From the moment she got the fax from the other dimension I was trying to figure out who it was from. My first thought was “oh wouldn’t it be cool if it was from his brother” and then slowly in the story I convinced myself that was not  going to be it, so I was very proud of myself when it was finally revealed. This story just felt so unique and I love jumping portals and alternate universes and stuff so it was so fun!
-Some moments I loved: Jenny putting an exclamation point in her email to prevent herself from sounding as irritated as she felt because I do that very frequently too haha. The way you wrote how it looked and felt going through the portal was so cool I could really see it in my head and was like “woah this is trippy”. HOW HE WAS HER ONLY TRACE OF FAMILIAR AND THAT SHE BELIEVED HIM WHEN NO ONE EVER DOES. And of course it was your signature horny characters hahah. The title of the book and the story appearing THE BEST.
-Some quotes I enjoyed/reactions to them:
“Whatever it was, it was destructive and cruel even while it was handsome. It treated flattery like a noose and wielded poison like a blade.” I just really like that line. I don’t really know why but idk it resonated somehow with me.
“Is he yours?” AHHH
“Sleep was not an option. Jenny let her restless feet carry her elsewhere, to the only place she felt even remotely recognizable as herself” AND IT'S TO HIS ROOM AWWW
“His kiss, when it met hers, was fragrant with gratitude, lush with it. He opened for her as she had for him, and suddenly she thought she understood it. Portals and passage. She pulled him closer the way she would have sprinted towards something unmissable, a train leaving the station. She pried open the doors of his reservations and in response he was alight, whisking her off the platform. She felt the edges of herself blur with his, his sadness becoming hers, his loneliness cloaking her shoulders. She bled her hope into his mouth, her art, her practiced hand at beauty. She poured the meditation of her entire being into his soul.” THEM THIS AHHH LOVE
“Jenny looked up, catching his eye as Salim drank what remained of his wine, and the corners of her lips flicked upwards, helpless to a smile. He could feel himself smiling broadly at her in return, everything suddenly dulling to singular, undeniable clarity. I understand, he wanted to say, I understand now what it means to search, and he reached out, taking her hand and observing the way surprise registered on her face.” he understands what it means to search and it’s to her I’m emo
“Jenny felt Salim's chest hitch at her touch, his sharp inhale errantly mislaid. "I didn't expect it," he said hoarsely, apologetically, and she knew he meant I didn't think we would be like this, two threads through the eye of one needle. She knew he meant: I would have liked to have offered you less, to have asked for nothing in return.” SCREAMING I LOVE THIS
“It was hard to explain what happened when she met Salim. She took one look at his face, far younger than she'd expected, and felt something she could only call a sensation; another sign. Some intangible sense of purpose, of destiny and satisfaction, absolution and relief. She looked at Salim Amrani and knew, somehow, that the answer to her question was yes. “ DESTINY AND HE WAS THE ANSWER UGH OBSESSED
"We are always only a stone's throw from collapsing into another form of ourselves, in versions of lives we cannot relinquish. Luckily, the world has a way of showing us where we belong." LOVE THIS LINE SO MUCH
The Immortality Project:
One of my insta friends that I actually made through our love of your books, Katie (gingko.reads), put in one of her posts about this story that “Vigilante Shit” is the perfect song for this story and I AGREE. Actually, I think Taylor wrote the song after reading this story tbh. We love reading about two women finally getting revenge on a world/on men that took advantage of them. This story was also so funny I laughed out loud several times. The legal document format was so fun and unique. I feel like you always throw in some unique formats in your anthologies and it always makes it so fun! Loved Saffron and Nikita’s friendship in this too, felt like it showed the power of female friendship very well.
-Some moments I loved: LOL she is such a ranter but so funny (she’s me ❤️). I just have “YES GIRL GET YOUR REVENGE” in my notes 100 times hahaha. Her name on false papers to get out of the country is Cinnamon (omg just realized two spices Saffron and Cinnamon I love it!). The whole VIP thing with Dick being the VIP and the “naughty boy” things from Saffron LOL LOVE HER. And the employee telling Saffron her friend might have murdered someone and her just saying I’m not worried I’ve seen death and it’s not as cute as her haha so good. “We are advised not to die” hahaha. She thinks saffron drugged her but Saffron insists she didn’t hahahah. “Aggressively writing things down” LOL. HER WISH AWWW I LOVE IT SO MUCH WHAT A GOOD ONE, THIS IS WHAT I WANT TOO. Saffron coming to visit her at the rehabilitation center awww. Tbh I can’t tell if the story was really just a mental break for her or if the wish she did with the witch came true because Saffron has money now and is successful while the dick and all his friends are either dead or going to jail. I like to think it is the latter. The ending being that quote reemphasized ugh perfection.
-Some quotes I enjoyed/reactions to them:
“Am once again sober although not for long, ha ha. Have rung Idiot 1’s private security (once lent her a tampon & now we are of course Best Friends) asking where he’ll be and she has informed me he will be in a meeting, which means he will be in a disgusting “ ”gentlemen” “ (double quotes for Extreme Skepticism)’s club.” “It has occurred to me since awakening to a vicious sight (i.e. my face) that perhaps seduction is a method better outsourced. Will find accomplice and report back soon.”  SHE IS LITERALLY SO FUNNY I LOVE HER SO MUCH
“Thus fair it is unclear where the project is based, though I assume it is a tax-sheltered island because billionaire fuckbois unimaginatively love island and boats.” LOL they do
“Things don’t always get better, she says, sometimes they just stay the same and sometimes they get worse, and she didn’t really expect to do anything or see anything and now she has.” sad but so true
“Therefore I will travel to what is inevitably an island and infiltrate it to discover the source of The Immortality Project. Once there, I will destroy it. I will destroy it with my bare hands, and then I will return to give Dick the following message: You are a small man and worse than that you are a mortal one. You will die someday though no fault of mine-I will of course outlive you because I am a woman and this is what we do-but when you do, I want you to know that I could have saved you. Instead I sat in the sun with a beer in my hand and I laughed.” YES
“It has occurred to me since awakening to a vicious sight (i.e. my face) that perhaps seduction is a method better outsourced. Will find accomplice and report back soon.” HAHAHA I love her
“I am taking a moment to myself to reflect on the fact that Dick has stolen my life from me. Worse is that I let him do it. Why have I always cared for other people over myself? Why have I nurtured a bunch of meaningless stocks instead of my own desires? It occurs to me that at least if Dick lives forever he will do something with his life, even if that something is just being egregiously bad in bed with women who don't deserve him. If I could live forever, what would I do with the rest of my life? I've lived more in the last three days than in the entirety of my prior lifetime. If I died tomorrow nobody would even remember me. The most important thing in my life is to destroy Dick for what he stole from me, which for the record wasn't my job. Dick stole my whole life right out from under me. And I didn't even notice until after he'd already fit the whole thing into a cardboard box for me to find outside my office.” ugh relatable
“It infuriates me that Dick has wealth enough to ensure that a hundred million Saffrons never see another bad day and yet he clings to it like he deserves it more than anyone.” THIS!!!
“So I say the first thing that comes to my tongue, which is: I wish that things were different. As in, I wish this were a different world, one less dominated by dicks and idiots and shitbags and more rewarding of Saffrons instead. I wish girls who didn’t quite know their own power yet would not get swept away by boys who did. I wish a man could not claim all my success for his own, just as I wish he could not simply point at me and diminish me to nothing. I wish I had allowed myself to be a little more difficult a little bit sooner in my life, because it seems like only once I got angry did my life actually start to begin.” SUCH A GREAT WISH I LOVE THIS VERY MUCH
Here is the picture of my insanity as promised:
Tumblr media
-Amanda ❤️
well obviously I love the insanity (I always love seeing tabs, it’s such a wonderful compliment, like people who close their eyes when they eat your cooking, so validating) and I love that tradition with your friend. and I also know it was a hard year for you, and I’m so honored I was able to give you something that brought you joy. it’s nice to feel together in the ether etc etc
and thank you so much for your love for the immortality project! people don’t usually mention that one to me but I really love it. I mean, it was obviously super fun for me to write, I’m sure you can tell just by the style, but it’s really nice to see it called out in any way. I appreciate how attentive you are to every line of all my stories. thank you so much for the way you love my work!

21. The Other Wes Moore
Author: Wes Moore
Finished: May 10, 2024
Format: Audiobook
This is, without a doubt, one of the best books I've ever read (I use "read" interchangeably with "listened to" for brevity). Wes Moore (the author) paints a picture of the true story of two young black men from the same city who shared vastly different fates. Both grew up mostly with single moms and got into breaking the law early on. The difference is that Wes Moore got the help he needed and the other Wes Moore did not.
This is a story about luck and privilege. Wes Moore the author was sent to military school to change his behavior while the other Wes Moore was educated by his older brother, which led him to pursuing a life of crime. The author Wes Moore became a politician, businessman, John Hopkins University Rhodes Scholar, and military leader while the other Wes Moore is serving a life sentence in prison for his involvement in a crime which led to the murder of a police officer.
I was supposed to read this book in college and I wish I did, I would have been a lot more educated about circumstance and privilege a lot sooner.

No Pressure
This new year is off to a good start. I backspaced the word, great to describe the start because honestly it would take a lot for me to say that wholeheartedly. However, the transition hasn’t been bad as I’ve gotten a $100 increase to my pay, handled the bills that matter (for the most part), renewed my lease, avoided issues with my car, avoided situations that were grueling, acquired some cool new additions to my closet, and I went out of my comfort zone and attended an event around like-minded creatives and got much needed feedback on my craft there. Out of all that I don’t know where to start or which one I should talk more in-depth about. I felt an urge to journal. I’m listening to Knxwledge as I do so. It’s quite calming and just this act alone is somewhat therapeutic. Speaking of therapy, I spoke to my therapist yesterday. It was good seeing him after holiday break. I’m glad we picked up as if it wasn’t even a long time without speaking. There was no awkwardness. I really appreciate my therapist. He gives the best advice & I feel I haven’t matched with a better person to get advice or a better listener than him in my life. I don’t know if I annoy him by how much I talk about myself, but I learned to not dwell on that possibility because his opinion of me would be out of my control anyway. I mentioned to him an audiobook I’ve been listening to by Kevin Hart called Monsters and How to Tame Them & so far I swear by that book. I’ve told any friend I could get on a call about it & even went as far as to sharing it on my Instagram story and Facebook newsfeed. I’ll have to listen to it in its entirety a few times before I can quote it and speak as to why I like it so much and find my own way to discuss the concepts, but so far I’m in love with it. It’s 5 hours and some change in time length, but the comedy mixed with the harsh, hard-hitting, necessary truths put my thoughts into words and makes sense of them. I express myself though graphic design and music, I used to express myself through art by drawing, which I want to pick back up, but I think what’s been the most therapeutic way to express myself is through words and philosophy from journaling to songwriting to watching video essays to listening to the aforementioned audiobooks. It can seem like a lot when I type it out and there was certain things I left out of that last sentence to not make it any longer, but together I feel like I’m becoming a more well-rounded person. There’s things from my past I regret doing and things that I beat myself up about ’til this day partly to remind myself to never make the same mistakes again and partly out of not even knowing why. I guess that second part is what I’m trying to make sense of. I do come across memes and sayings that remind me of how human that is. I guess redemption is a tale as old as time that it’s almost a cliché. I hope I can prove to the world that I’m a good man and one day, hopefully, even a great man, but it would have to start with proving that to myself first. No pressure.
I wanted to talk about how my creative process is not organized at all. Well it might be somewhat organized as far as the steps I take to start making something new, but typing about how I express myself kept putting a word into my head; “chaos”. It’s chaotic. I think the very act of creating is making something out of nothing, pulling together resources out of the void and or different realms to make something you see fit. It’s the closest you can come to being Godly. That might sound a bit dramatic, but in the truest form of what God has done, it holds truth. You can already see where I’m going with that so I won’t delve any deeper, but only to say it’s divine and what you create can shift reality. I’m not too well-versed in the laws of the universe, but I’m pretty sure somewhere in the discussion of that, “creation” and “creativity” has a big part. I don’t know if organizing my creative process better will bring about better results, in theory it should, but the naturalness of being chaotic holds its own benefits and qualities. Random tangent.
I’ve invested into equipment that should make creating easier, it’s just a matter of pushing myself or moving myself and putting myself in the position to use it. One thing I pray to God about is that I never lose the love for doing what I enjoy. God forbid.
My love for doing what I love is greater to me than love itself (the romantic kind).

1 and 29 for the ask game! <3 (btw just wanted to say that i love ur writing)
Thank you!
1) When did you start writing? How?
I've been writing ever since I was little. I really got started when I was put in a gifted program in elementary school with a teacher who encouraged me to write poems. Around the same time, I discovered fan fiction thanks to my obsession with Avatar: The Last Airbender and started posting with the confidence that only an 11 year old can have. I wrote both fanfic and original stories for years, chose my high school for its creative writing program, and then made that my concentration when I went to university! Thank you to Mr. [Name Redacted] for believing in me! I never would've written 100k of anime boys kissing without your support~
29) Best writing advice for other writers?
Writing advice is tricky, since people have a tendency to assume all advice is either unbreakable law or swing violently in the other direction and think it can all be disregarded. But I will say... read, and read widely. You don't have to read 50 books a month (I definitely cannot lmao; quantity is overrated, go for quality) but you can learn a lot about the craft by basically taking a sneak peek at other people's papers, if that makes sense. It's a combo of "write what you want to read" and "great artists steal." And reading is fun, especially when you find something that really speaks to you, whether it's fiction, nonfiction, or a BL manga that makes you feel like you lit your brain on fire. Try lots of different things! For example, the three most recent books I've been able to finish have been Pale Fire, a nonfiction book about a dangerous conspiracy theory, and a re-read of Scum Villain. 🙈 (Audiobooks count too, by the way.)

Trump’s Copyright Lawsuit: Does it Have Merit?
By Lauren Barrouquere,  University of Louisiana at Lafayette Class of 2024
February 4, 2023
Tumblr media
Bob Woodward, a world-renowned journalist best known for his work on Watergate, published a book entitled “Rage”, with a companion audiobook [2]. “Rage” discusses Donald Trump’s presidency, and as such, some of the audiobook contains audio from Woodward’s interviews with the former president [3]. These interviews are the basis of a new copyright lawsuit against Woodward and the publisher Simon & Schuster [1].
Trump’s lawsuit claims that his responses in the interviews were “usurped” and that they were subject to more severe limitations on the distribution and use under copyright law [2]. The former president is asking for $50 million and is currently pursuing a court order that would declare the responses “creative expressions”, thereby granting him sole ownership of them, and giving him a claim to all derivative works containing said interviews [1]. The specifics of his lawsuit include breach of contract, unjustified enrichment (profiting at the expense of another in an unjust manner), as well as unfair trade practice claims [1].
In response to this litigation, Woodward, in conjunction with Simon & Schuster released a statement. They claim the lawsuit lacks any merit or standing and that “...all these interviews were on the record and recorded with President Trump's knowledge and agreement. Moreover, it is in the public interest to have this historical record in Trump's own words. We are confident that the facts and the law are in our favor,” [3].
In regards to binding case law in this particular area, there appears to be very little, which is why this case is of keen interest to many. In 2014, the 2nd District Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Bloomberg L.P. in a similar case [1]. In that case, the Court found that Bloomberg L.P. had ownership over answers in a group call from an investment group [1]. However, this case is muddied because the 2nd District Court did not reverse the decision of a New York Federal judge saying that the answers were subject to copyright in the first place [1]. Similarly, conflicting rulings in copyright cases date back as far as the 80s, when a D.C. judge found a news outlet had fair use when quoting from a copyrighted interview, but in 2000 an Illinois judge ruled differently [1]. All of this to say, the copyright law around interviews is very unclear, where it exists at all.
Relating to the merit of Trump’s claim, it appears that as of right now the tides are not in his favor. A Harvard University intellectual property law professor, Rebecca Tushnet, stated that Trump’s pleading was deficient [1]. Another law professor, Jessica Silbey, referred to the case as “a perversion of copyright law” [1]. Finally, a federal district court judge claimed that Trump was using this lawsuit for political purposes, to “obstruct justice”, and to seek revenge on his adversaries [3].

The All-In-One Guide to Getting an MBA Online
Find the Top Distance MBA Colleges in India.
Where do Online MBAs Differ from Traditional MBAs?
You can see that in the current scenario, competition is increasing rapidly across all markets. The obvious reason is that progress in every field is accelerating at an unprecedented rate, and everyone is doing whatever they can to get ahead in the race to become the best.
When it comes to education, people are waking up to their own best interests and making educated decisions about how to proceed. However, some graduates may need to seek new employment opportunities.
However, a master's degree is almost required in today's highly competitive job market. To further examine this issue, distance learning courses are being developed. Later on in this weblog, we'll delve deeper into some of the key distinctions between the traditional MBA and the online MBA.
Getting an MBA from a Distance vs. Getting a Traditional MBA
Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs can be completed in as little as 2 years and can be pursued through traditional classroom settings or through distance learning and online platforms. Since the University Grants Commission has recognized the equal value of distance education, the law does not distinguish between the two types of classes.
The method of instruction is the primary distinction between a Distance MBA and a Traditional MBA. Daily college and lecture attendance is required of all MBA students. Online MBA students attend classes via a video conferencing platform like Google Meet or Zoom, while Distance MBA students learn through prerecorded video lectures or audiobooks. There needs to be more student-teacher interaction in online MBA programs.

What is Distance MBA & Regular MBA Explained
The top distance MBA colleges in India are currently facing increased competition from all sectors. The fact that everyone is striving to be the best while the world is developing swiftly may help to explain this.
As it relates to the field of education, people are becoming more aware of what is best for them and what to do.
Some students may feel the need to hunt for a new job once they graduate.
To succeed in this competitive climate, you need a master's degree. In addition, programs for distance learning are being developed to address this problem.
The MBA program is a two-year master's degree that may be earned on-campus or online in a variety of fields. As a result of the University Grants Commission's recognition of distant education's identical value, all courses are recognized equally in the eyes of the law.
The method of instruction is the main distinction between a Regular MBA and a Distance MBA.
Regular MBA students must attend their classes and other duties every day. Online MBA students remotely attend classes using Google Meet or Zoom, while distance MBA students study using pre-recorded video lectures or audiobooks. There isn't much contact between the teachers and the students in the online MBA program.

Pimp: The Story of My Life by Iceberg Slim
Tumblr media
https://books.google.com/books/about/Pimp.html?id=rG2r5PEN_6IC
Bitch, this is a review for the book Pimp: The Story of My Life by Iceberg Slim. Slim’s autobiography. Bitch, this book is an underground hit that inspired the image of the street pimp that became popular in rap/hip-hop with the likes of Snoop Dog, Too Short, Jay Z, and others. Bitch, this book in addition to it’s influence on urban black society shows the dark underbelly of black crime and the living factors that leads people into this seedy life, a secret to a world that I always get fascinated by due to it’s old age but yet modern day vibes and feelings.
Bitch, the first few chapters of the book seems to tell the whole story, with Slim telling the reader how he lived his life and the struggle from normal childhood to descend into the pimping world. It only really escalates from there and you see how he avoids (and doesn’t avoid) the law, tricksters, and other pimps. Really I think the best chapters are the first ones and maybe that is because I am more interested in Slim’s early life due to the fact that today’s modern day media landscape has popularized the street pimp into various different portraits and all the work they do is shown/told. There is no grand mystery in how they operate but I am interested in how they became a pimp.
Bitch, if calling you a bitch in the beginning of every sentence offends you, then don’t read this read because saying “bitch” in the beginning of every sentence is how Slim talks to his whores. Whores, tricks, dick, pussy, fuck, and all the bad words a middle schooler would find forbidden to say yet in today’s rap songs are so common are used throughout this book. Explicit descriptions of sexual activities are described in addition to telling how crimes occurred and how Slim beat his women. All this does not make it a feel good read and readers might even turn on Slim as he disrespects and attacks runaway underage girls that work for him. But Slim lays it all out in the book. He explains his thought process, his methods, his low points and high points of his life. You will understand why he does what he does, even if it is morally wrong. Truthfully I am personally astounded and amazed by the fact that such actives like this took place decades ago with very little record of it and when someone like Slim tells the whole story of it, how modern sounding the situations and dialogue are to today’s world. Phrases like ‘sucking dick’ coming from a 1940s person is so weird sounding to me, yet Slim says it happened.
The end of the book is around 1962 with it being published in 1967, so there is more to Slim to explore beyond this book. I would recommend the biography Street Poison: The Biography of Iceberg Slim by Justin Gifford, of whom I actually took a Women’s literature class from back when I studied in university. Like I said, the later half of the book seems like it is repeating but Slim offers his honest mind and opinion on how and why he operated the way he did, judge him for that if you must. It is pretty explicit on the language side but does offer a good look at the social conditions that led him and the various girls he meets into the pimping world. The audiobook version on Audible is well done with the narrator and there is glossary at the end of the book for readers unfamiliar with the old street slang. Otherwise, bitch, what are you doing here reading this? Bitch, go read this book instead.

DESCRIPTION BOOK : Frederick Law Olmsted is arguably the most important historical figure that the average American knows the least about. Best remembered for his landscape architecture, from New York's Central Park to Boston's Emerald Necklace to Stanford University's campus, Olmsted was also an influential journalist, early voice for the environment, and abolitionist credited with helping dissuade England from joining the South in the Civil War. This momentous career was shadowed by a tragic personal life, also fully portrayed here. Most of all, he was a social reformer. He didn't simply create places that were beautiful in the abstract. An awesome and timeless intent stands behind Olmsted's designs, allowing his work to survive to the present day. With our urgent need to revitalize cities and a widespread yearning for green space, his work is more relevant now than it was during his lifetime. Justin Martin restores Olmsted to his rightful place in the pantheon of great Americans.

Gender identity ideology is about more than twitter storms and using the right pronouns. In just ten years, laws, company policies, school and university curricula, sport, medical protocols, and the media have been reshaped to privilege self-declared gender identity over biological sex. People are being shamed and silenced for attempting to understand the consequences of redefining ?man? and ?woman?. While compassion for transgender lives is well-intentioned, it is stifling much-needed inquiry into the significance of our bodies.

Canadians! #NoSiteBlocking!
Tumblr media
Canada's Bill C-10 is a federal regulation of Canadians' online expression, from podcasts, social media and blogs to other user-generated content.
Despite claims from the ruling Liberals that opposition to this bill is Tory partisanship, this is a universal issue.
As always, Michael Geist has had the best analysis of how C-10 goes well beyond the government's claims of modest and sensible rules of the road, instead empowering the CRTC to order blocks and takedowns of otherwise legal content.
Here's Geist on why the bill does not pass muster with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms:
https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2021/05/failing-analysis-why-the-department-of-justice-updated-charter-statement-doesnt-address-bill-c-10s-free-speech-risks/
On why it covers user-generated content:
https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2021/05/think-regulating-user-generated-content-in-bill-c-10-is-just-an-inadvertent-mistake-think-again/
On the true scope of the bill, including "News Sites, Podcast and Workout Apps, Adult Websites, Audiobooks, and Sports Streamers."
https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2021/05/not-just-big-techbillc10/
On the inevitability of site-blocking under C-10:
https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2021/05/the-bill-c-10-effect-why-canadian-consumers-face-a-future-of-cancon-surcharges-and-blocked-services/
On the incompatibility of C-10 with Net Neutrality:
https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2021/05/why-bill-c-10-undermines-the-governments-commitment-to-the-principle-of-net-neutrality/
and on the bad faith, Trumpian cries of "fake news" by the Liberal Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault.
https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2021/05/who-is-wearing-a-tin-foil-hat-now-heritage-minister-steven-guilbeault-suggests-corporate-inspired-misinformation-campaign-the-cause-of-bill-c-10-criticism/
Contrary to M Guibeault's smears, opposition to C-10 isn't a Tory conspiracy. I have never carried water for the Tories - I've rung doorbells to campaign against them federally, provincially, municipally, and internationally, when I lived in the UK.
The Liberals' track record on internet regulation is terrible (remember Sam Bulte's jeremiad against "user-rights zealots"?), but the Tories are even worse. Long before Tony Clement was caught sending pictures of his junk to random women, he was ramming through Canada's DMCA.
Indeed, it's precisely because I know how Stephen Harper would have weaponised C-10 that I want it staked through the heart.
(And if you think Harper's C-10 would be bad, imagine PM Doug Ford wielding it - or PM Faith Goldy)
The Heritage Ministry is accepting comments on C-10 until May 31. Today is the #NoSiteBlocking national day of action, organised by Openmedia.ca.
They've got a page of bilingual resources for filing your comments:
http://www.dontblock.ca/
Bill C-10 is a gift to Canada's outrageous telecoms monopolies: Bell, Shaw and Rogers. Canada has spent decades treating telecoms and internet laws as political conveniences, ignoring the digital divide, monopolism and the consequences of mass surveillance.
It's time the country treated the care, maintenance and growth of its digital nervous system with the gravitas and public interest it warrants - even if that means slight reductions in profits to the monopolists who have served Canadians so poorly.

Oh No I’m Stuck in My Apartment
Now is the best of times, now is the worst of times!
Anyway, I am not a healthcare professional and it turns out pandemics don’t care about “law” actually so I’m here to offer the resources I can. Namely: Where To Find Media & Inject It In Your Eyeballs Without Infecting Other People. Most of these links will be USA-specific, but do search for local equivalents.
I. LEGAL, IE EITHER KNOWN TO OR PROFITABLE FOR THE CREATORS / IP-OWNERS
Obviously there’s the whole Nutflix/Prima/Holla/Antitrust Violation+ axis, but there are lots of other ways to access content online and potentially without a subscription fee.
YOUR LOCAL PUBLIC LIBRARY---depending on the resources available, a public library can offer up a wealth of ebooks, audiobooks, online resources, and general content, including awesome stuff to keep the Little Ones (Suddenly Not In School) engaged and using their brains. I encourage everyone to start here. I also recommend the Hoopla app and the Library Extension---those times I feel tempted to look on Amazon first, they’ve pulled me back and reminded me that Chicago Public Libraries might have that, and for free! A blessing.
PBS---A miracle and a gift. Tons and tons of content on the website, and if you become a member (”viewers like you”!) you can access even more, through their partnership with Masterpiece Theater.
KANOPY---Are you into old movies? Do you have a library card and/or are a student at a university? Check of Kanopy, a service that partners with academic institutions and libraries to stream culturally significant films.
TUBI---like Crackle or Vudu, its catalog is nowhere near as extensive as more profitable streaming services, but it uses a commercial break/no paid subscription model. Currently the only streaming service featuring Leverage, which is a pretty good indicator of quality imho.
MET OPERA LIVE IN HD---This is very niche, but if you’re into opera, the Met is making its recent Live in HD performances stream-able through its website. (It already had this capability through its archives, but I appreciate the chance to see more recent productions.)
Less specifically: if you’re interested in trying out a particular television channel or podcast, buying a book (particularly one from a debut author whose book tour has been canceled due to COVID), or attempting video games, now’s the time, since many are offering free or discounted shipping/access.
II. MAYBE POTENTIALLY NOT EXACTLY LEGAL BUT NOT TECHNICALLY A DMCA VIOLATION TO WATCH
oh no, what’s this whole “pu t loc ker” phenomenon? who can possibly say? no one should visit a link that’s mostly a repository of ripped movies of varying quality (both the movies and the quality of the recording)
and definitely I don’t recommend anyone google “project free tv” in order to catch up on their shows! who would do such a thing that might deprive a poor, multi-trillion dollar mouse some shred of profit????
in addition, no one should check out r/pro(f)shot musicals (minus the f) in they’re looking to find a lot of professionally-recorded musicals, operas and plays! I mean, that would be bad, sort of. I guess.
sometimes, if you go to youtube and click around in clips related to something you want to see, the algorithm will recommend a different video, with a non-searchable title akin to “man in basement develops unhealthy attachment to soprano” or  “austen heroine thinks manners are heroin”. Definitely shouldn’t do that, probably.
.........if you have other resources, don’t hesitate to add to this post or reply. Let’s all stay healthy, stay hydrated, and stay (relatively) socialized!
