JUNE 2024: I will be taking a temporary leave of absence from the 17th to the 24th, so it is unlikely I will be able to get work done during this time. However, commission requests will still be available depending on slot availability, and anything I don't get done beforehand will be resumed when I return!
—※—
At long last, my commissions are finally open once again! Note that this will be a bit of a trial run so that I can smooth over any rough spots, but apart from that, service requests are fully functional, and I look forward to meeting with you all!
First and foremost, these commissions will be done via waitlist, through which you can requested to be added via any of my social handles or [email protected]!
🎨COMMISSION TYPES🎨
Sketch will have the quickest turn around time, comprising a polished version of my rough drawings.
Clean Up has a moderate turn around time, comprising of line art and base colors, but otherwise no shading/rendering.
Shaded will have the longest turn around time, with the completed drawing possessing depth and rendering not present in the aforementioned types.
📝COMMISSION FORM📝
Email Subject: "Commission + identifier (user/character's name)
Type: (bust; clean up; detailed background, etc.)
Description: Try and make this as detailed as possible for better clarity as to your request; ideas for pose, setting, expression, etc. Visual references can include drawings, photographs, collages, etc., but if you would like me to create the design from scratch, it will be charged based on complexity (base price is $50)
Paypal/Venmo email
✒️ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS✒️
Dragons, dinosaurs, and anything reptilian in nature are my go-tos in regards to drawing. I do attempt to study all animal anatomy in general, however, and am more than willing to try out out other forms.
Humans I am also willing to do, though they do not shine as much as my creature designs.
Furry and Anthro characters I may attempt (price will not change) but bear in mind they are NOT my forte.
I am more than happy to assist in character design if needed. Price will vary depending on complexity, but the base is usually $50 as a standard.
If there is something you have in mind that isn't shown as an example, do not be afraid to ask me about it! I'm usually willing to try anything at least once! (Emotes, banners, icons, etc.)
🧾TERMS OF SERVICE🧾
PAYPAL/VENMO, United States Dollars $ (USD) — Email: [email protected]
Prices are for PERSONAL USE only. I may consider commercial rates in the future, but my commissions will NOT BE ALLOWED to be used as NFTs or other forms of cryptocurrency.
Anything below $100 USD is required to be paid upfront. (Note that this is for when the commission is started, not for when you enter the waitlist.) Full resolution images will not be provided until the payment is complete.
I don't accept works with a deadline.
I reserve the right to reject any commission which I don't feel comfortable with.
Completion time estimated a week to a month (from when I start) depending on complexity and queue.
As long as the artwork is for personal use, you are free to do with it as you will. (If you post it anywhere, please remember to credit me!)
—※—
Refunds are only valid for PayPal and Venmo payments. If you find that you are no longer satisfied with my services, a refund will be distributed based on the progress. A portion of the total price will be taken away depending on the stage the work is currently in. All canceled commissions will still receive a .png file of the artwork in the state that it is.
Sketch (-20%)
Lineart (-40%)
Base Color (-60%)
Shaded (-80%)
Final Touches (At this point, the drawing is almost complete, and a refund is no longer possible)
Ex. A commission of $100 after the PayPal fee is $96.02. If you decide that you don't want my service anymore while it is in the base color process, then it is 96.02 - 60% = #38.41 as cashback.
Lastly, please please please no pressure! These pieces take me quite a bit of time to do, and the less stress weighing on my shoulders, the better for my peace of mind.
If you have any other questions, please don't be shy, and feel free to leave comments below!

you.
Y O U .
about your post (link below), about the art style of the characters,
YO IVE BEEN WANTING TO TALK ABOUT THAT BUT SO FAR YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE IVE SEEN NOTICE IT. After reading the last few chapters, I did notice the art style of the series has been changing. At first I thought it was a different illustrator or a new assistant or something but I didn’t have a recent book to check. Maybe the guy is stressed with deadlines but he BUTCHERED a couple of the characters. Kimizuki I noticed the most since I uh- pay attention to him a lot, but the pictures you added really sealed the deal for me. I do hope it can “go back to normal”, since the art was part of what made me check out the series. I just feel like it doesn’t look as refined as it used to, and I definitely missed Yu’s old expressions. The eyes drew me to the characters. Maybe they’re using a different way of drawing things, like switching from traditional to digital, which could explain why the eyes aren’t as detailed anymore. I’d like to know which chapter you think this started in, as I’m looking though my physical copy of book 15 to see if it’s different around then. hopefully it gets turned around, but there’s obviously no guarantee. I really appreciate you posting about this.
https://distinguished-slacker.tumblr.com/post/650704413986521088/dont-you-miss-those-old-days-when
Hi :3
First things first, I just want to tell you that the artist, Yamato Yamamoto sensei, is not a ‘he’😅 Their gender is unknown but it’s most likely that they are a woman.
Now, onto your question, I think you are looking through the exact volume where I think the art style started to change. Volume 15 contains chapters 56 to 59. Chapters 56, 57 and 58 possess the same art style as those of the previous volumes and it’s right at the end of this volume, in chapter 59, where I notice that the faces and eye shapes started to become rounder.
However, you would barely notice this very subtle change unless you are looking through the chapter with the intention of dissecting the art😭 The panel where I go like “Yes. The art style is definitely starting to change.” is this one right at the end of chapter 62⬇️
Tumblr media
I can notice it since usually Mika would have sharper features. Artstyle started to change since the early chapter 60s but it wasn’t until the 80s that the quality started to downgrade and especially the recent ones suffered a more severe blow.
I really don’t want to break your hopes but I am still going to speak and say that it’s highly unlikely that the art style will go back to what it was once :(
There is a difference between art style and art quality. Art quality is dependent on the choice of the brushes, the level of shading and of course, tiredness. If you compare these recent chapters with the ones from years ago, you can notice that the brush Yamamoto is currently using for drawing the lineart seems blurrier and so less defined. It seems like, as you say, Yamamoto changed their method of doing art to digital, and this problem can be easily changed if they try another platform or a different method. Then, level of shading can be improved if more time is given to focus on shading (therefore less tiredness).
However, art style is not something that can significantly improve with more free time. Art style is like handwriting; it either changes over time at a very very slow pace or it doesn’t change but it never abruptly changes to something different (it requires a lot of time to change your handwriting and get used to do it like that all the time). The artstyle has been changing since the early 60s, which were written like 4 years ago. Those are 4 years of Yamamoto getting used to drawing like this, with stiff positions, lack of body curves, excess of eye brushes lashes and more which has been getting worse as the manga progresses… It’s hard to expect them to draw like how they used to 5 years ago.
Still, the current artstyle is much better than many shonen mangas out there and I know the artist works very hard but when the plot narrative is being executed so poorly, you at least want to rely on the beautiful art of the manga…but…you know… ;-;
Anyways, I am glad that you liked my post (I really chose some good pictures right?😋) and even if the possibility is low let’s hope that at the very least Yamamoto realises that this is not how Yuu’s face looks like😂💔⬇️

im really truly grateful for everyone who’s said such nice things about my art recently, cuz this gal has had a rollercoaster of a time on here, and a PRETTY bumpy start with digital art lol. so i wanna take a stroll down memory lane for a second!!
(also i was sorting old art on my laptop and saw these!! ha)
Tumblr media
a bunch of old/new art under the cut for length reasons
(also like. this is 80% for me cuz it’s satisfying to see some improvement over time!!! 2018 seems so long ago but also like. no lmao)
sam and dean, april 2018 vs march 2020
i got so mad at this first one that i quit at the faces!
also i was basically tracing the screencap i based this off of (which is actually a great way to get shapes down!! also blocking and proportions, but using that to go straight into lineart was Not The Best Look here)
Tumblr media
but hey!! look at that improvement. an actual style. coloring inside/outside the lines on purpose! HA.
while i definitely have more detailed stuff of sam and dean now, the pose struck out to me when i was going through  my old art today! so i had to compare lol
Tumblr media
neeeext UP: patience
september 2018 vs march 2020
i used to just use a ton of color palettes because i didnt know how colors worked really... which was good practice for like, color tones and stuff, but i rly didnt know how colors worked very well until GENERALLY pretty recently!
this first patience im still content with, her likeness is there but there’s not much style, and i don’t really like the stiff lines anymore
Tumblr media
now this!! i tried a new coloring stule and i rly enjoyed it! i also know how to use colors better (maybe???)
at some point i do wanna get back into doing some color palette things again tho! those were really fun
Tumblr media
alex :0
september 2018 vs january 2020
i remember i DEFINITELY traced the one on the right, or tried to. and there look at me trying to blend colors on the left how cute....
Tumblr media
these lil wayward drawings are probably some of my favorite!!!
and look at the change, still using a color palette but i THINK i figured out how to use the color to my advantage for the emotion of the pic rather than just. slapping it on (which i sometimes still do lol)
Tumblr media
sastiel!
november 2018 vs february 2020
baby’s first sastiel... me just picking out canon moments of them how cute!! also peak how i could not draw sam’s nose right at this point (or cas’ BUT SAM’S POINTY NOSE IS SO IMPORTANT!!!)
Tumblr media
this hug.. is probably my favorite thing i’ve drawing recently. i just love them a lot!!!
posing has gotten a lot better . lines too obviously (also the kind of brush helps so so much) also i was gonna color this but i merged the lines with the background like a doofus :/
Tumblr media
jack time baybey!
may 2018 vs march 2020
very very obviously tracing/basing off of a pic?? i think. anyways im filled with good emotions still looking at these cuz this was right when i got back into spn and first fell in love with this tiny nephilim CHILD but also. there is improvement to be had ..... (also used a color palette again here)
Tumblr media
again with the halo motif. i’ve always loved a good halo motif. SO let’s get into it. the lines!! with the old one they’re very shaky (understandable. i was v new @ digital art) also extremely stiff. no room to breath
new art! while the lines i used could be considered similar (bold lines all the same color, not much pen pressure) things have changed!
i’ve been using brown for my lines recently, makes it look less harsh sometimies, also here i’ve figured out what works for me with where to put less lines, namely the hair! i got the shape, put down some bangs, but not everything is blocked off by a line between skin / hair
also just. another note. ive figured out how to find good highlights/shadows with colors recently and i just! theyre good and bright and im happy abt it (also light purple??? is a good skin shadow???? fun fact)
Tumblr media
ok. that all got a bit lengthy but  this was very fun for me! if you made it this far I COMMEND YOU ALL THE LOVE FROM ME

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a big bang?
A Big Bang/Mini-Bang is a writing challenge that prompts authors and artists to work together to create a story and work of art that go together. In this case, our fandom is the Roswell New Mexico tv show, and our goal is 5000 words or more!
How do I sign up?
When sign-ups start, there will be a Google Form link posted for you to sign-up as an Author or an Artist or Beta
What if I need to drop out?
Yes! Sometimes life gets in the way or a story just doesn’t happen, and we understand that! However, there is a cutoff point, and if you do not let the mods know before this date, you can be banned from the next round. Even if it is after this cutoff date that you need to drop out please let us know so that we can discuss options. We can’t help if we don’t know there is a problem! Dropping all contact with mods after the cutoff date is grounds for an automatic ban, as we can’t help at that point. Please get in contact with us, so that we can arrange for art if needed!
I need help/support!
Once you sign-up, you will be sent a link to the Discord Server for the Big Bang. Feel free to talk about your story here with other authors, ask questions, look for a beta, ask for advice, freak out, or any general story discussions.
Membership is open to all who want to join the big bang or are thinking about it! Watch the blog for the link post
I don’t want to join a discord server/have never used discord before
We are making this a mandatory requirement this year. Communication is critical for the big bang to be successful, and a discord server is the best way for mods to ensure they can communicate with all participants. If you’re new to discord, the mods will help you with an introduction and navigation resources to the server.
Writing Requirements
What type of requirements are there for a fic?
Your fic must be at least 5,000 words long and, preferably, beta-read before the posting date. It must focus on or revolve around the characters from the TV show Roswell, New Mexico. You are not required to write a certain ship or a ship at all. Your fic also has to be completed at the time of posting. All chapters must be posted on the day of posting.
I've already been writing an RNM story - can I use that?
The purpose of this Bang is to unveil a brand-new, completed piece on your posting date, however we are okay with you finishing your piece as long as you have not posted more than 2,000 words and do not post any more until your posting date. Since this Bang has a minimum word count of 5,000 words we are asking that no more than 2,000 words be posted prior to signing up, so that at least 80% of the fic is new.
Can I write a sequel to a previous story?
Yes, but the sequel needs to be able to stand on its own. Please make sure to link to the first story so readers can read that as well.
I want to gift my big bang to someone, can I?
Big Bangs are not gift stories or exchanges, so your big bang must stand as itself.
What genres are allowed?
All genres are allowed as well as crossovers, as long as Roswell New Mexico characters are the main characters of the story.
I've got two ideas in my head - can I write both?
Yes, you can, as long as you think you'll be able to finish both stories by the deadline (if you submit two stories we will do our best to make sure there is a good amount of time in between the posting of each fic).
Can I write the story with someone else?
Yes, you may co-author your big bang if you want to. The word minimum however for co-authored works is 7,000.
What an artist summary?
An artist summary is written by authors to give a summary of the fic in a holistic manner. It will include all the main ships, main plot twists, trigger warnings, and any relevant tags for the artist to make an educated choice on making art for the work. The artist summaries are anonymous and only 500 words or less.
What should my outline look like?
A fic outline is an overview of your story. You will need to list major scenes of the story all the way from the beginning to the resolution. The outline needs to show how you plan on finish the story so the mods and artists can anticipate the story.
Can I have an extension?
We will be granting extensions on a case-by-case basis for rough drafts as long as your final fic or art is in by the due date. We would hope, however, that you use the checkpoints and all your available writing time to its fullest.
If you think at any time you need an extension (whether fic or art) contact the mods right away so we can begin working it out with you.
What do I do if I am not sure I will finish my story but still want to try?
If, by the time rough drafts are due, you aren't sure if you will be done with your story and don't want to risk having an artist claim it only to have to drop out you can switch to the Unofficial track. This will mean your story won't be put in the claims post but if you can finish it by the time final drafts are due we will arrange an artist for you and you will post with everyone else.
Artist Requirements
What are the requirements for art?
Each story an artist claims is required to have at least one art of quality for each story they claim. If an artist decides to claim 3 stories, they will be required to create one piece of art for each story, so at minimum, 3 pieces of art.
You’re creating something for a work that is at least 5k/10k in length, so we want the art to match that effort! Here are the suggested guidelines:
Traditional/Digital art: Cleaned lineart, on unlined paper, that is at least 500x500 pixels is the minimum. Additional sketchier/rougher pieces are welcomed so long as one piece of art is at the cleaned lineart stage!
Manips: Clean renders and non-blurry images that do not contain watermarks should be used for photo manipulation.
Banners or Icons or Wallpaper: 5 icons, of at least 100x100 pixels. 3 banners. 1 wallpaper. More is of course always welcomed!
Picspam or Gifsets: At least 6 images, but more images, or multiple sets are welcome!
Vids: At least two minutes long, or a full song!
Fanmixes: At least 10 songs and include cover art (this can be a manip!).
What is an Art Claim?
Art claims is the process through which artists and authors are paired for the big bang. Artists will have 3 days to review summary information provided by all the authors participating in the event. The claims process is anonymous, which means the artists have no idea who wrote which fic. On claims day, artists submit their top 5 choices and are matched with their first available fic. When matches are confirmed, the mods will email each team to introduce partners to each other.
How do I make a claim?
On claims day, artists will receive a form to submit their choices.
What happens if the number of authors doesn't match up with the number of artists or mixers?
We will do several rounds of claiming so that EVERY fic has an artist. In the event that fics outnumber artists, we will allow artists to make a second claim. If it's the other way, we may open up the fics so that more than one artist is assigned to the same fic. Either way, everyone who wants to participate will get to participate.
Can I post my art to my blog or another site to show my friends in advance?
No, we ask that you don't preview your art to anyone before the assigned posting date. You are allowed to show it to a few friends or an art beta, to get advice or feedback before the posting date, but please don't post it for the general public until your assigned posting date.
Where can I upload my graphics?
You are free to post your graphics on your platform of choice, as long as there is a link to the art in the fic.
How will I get my graphics to my author?
We will provide you with contact information once you are committed to an author. From there you can contact them to find out more about their interests, or simply send them the links to your final mix/gifsets/art.
We would like to encourage you to be in contact with them and to share what you make for them.
Schedule
What's a check-in?
Check-ins are something to give you a feel on where a typical author should be at in their writing process. There are multiple points of communication with the mods team to share your progress, ask questions, and share any comments you need to.
ALL CHECK-INS ARE MANDATORY! This is the best way for mods to track the progress of works and ensure works will be posted on time.
Why do artists get a check-in?
The artist check-in will be mandatory. This is mostly to make sure that artists have been in contact with their authors and that they are on track. It will help us determine which stories will need pinch hitters earlier.
Posting Requirements
What types of requirements are there for me to post my fic?
You must include a header with all the regular information (title, rating, wordcount, pairing, etc.) on it. This includes warnings. Not all of our readers like the same thing, so you are required to warn them. Besides that, you must include any secondary fandom you're writing in.
Do I post my story to this community or do the mods post it?
Anywhere you wish, so long as it is also in the RNM Big Bang AO3 Collection. Posting it there is how we will count your work as completed*.
*Artists will not be required to post to AO3, though it is highly encouraged. (AO3 isn’t great for hosting some types of art, like picspam or gif sets, we understand that!) If you are not posting your art to AO3, you must make sure the link to where you art is posted is provided to the author and linked within the author notes or story.
Can I post it to my blog a few days early to show my friends?
No, the first time you show your fic for this big bang must be on your reveal day. If you post in advance please lock the post for your eyes only.
If you have any other questions, please reach out to the mods team!

October Raffle Winner + General Update
Raffle winner of a FREE colored lineart:  Avelos Congrats! I wanted to extend huge thanks to all the lovelies who nabbed a slot—many of you bought more than one! 80 This sale has been SUPER successful and I’m relieved because I was really worrying about it this month, I’m not sure why. xD (prolly just general anxiety and lack of faith in my art, which isn’t usual and I’ll get over it) More info under the rm:
I plan to have everyone’s commissions done in the next two-three weeks, so if you haven’t heard from me by next Thursday the 29th, PLEASE don’t hesitate to nudge me, but hopefully none of you will have to. All the experimental slots were taken which is awesome but a quick reminder those will take me a while comparatively <3 Thank you again! I MIGHT close down commissions from now until November 2nd, but we’ll see. Any current commissions that were started before the sale are still being worked on, ofc! Just wanna keep my ducks in a row and not get burned out like I did in April. And May. And Some of June. >>; I’m also hoping to take a few days off early in November, as I always work everyday including Thanksgiving and then take off two weeks at Christmas but we’ll see. Obviously this year is different due to the Backstreet Boys Tour so I’m going to keep plans loose and open for now. I want to enjoy the holidays but also…separately from people…obviously, because it’s just not worth getting sick or worse, getting my dad sick because he literally is EVERY target area due to his heart attack last year. At some point I want to go back to Twitch streams, but I also still need to get a mic for that. If anyone has any suggestions on mics they recc, I’d love suggestions! If at all possible something under $30, but I can do higher if it’s got rave reviews—I’m mostly just looking for okay sound and longevity, nothing fancy, just wanna use it for Arts and Video Games xD low budget but also low expectations. I know Halloween is a bit odd this year, but what are everyone’s plans? I’m def one of those freaks who celebrates Halloween from Sept 1st to October 31st with no shame.
Every year I have to watch Friday the 13th, House on Haunted Hill (the 59 one) and I also usually watch Supernatural again because it’s major nostalgia for me, esp seasons 1-5~ Then me and my dad always watch the Great Pumpkin and some of the old Scooby-Doo movies.  Thankfully these are routines I can still follow and enjoy safely! But I did have to cancel our haunted hayride this year—we take our haunted hayrides seriously up here in Leaf Country, so we’re talking a 50 min ride complete with two walks, one being through a pitch black corn field at like 11pm usually  o.o it’s always SO well done and me and my girlfriend have been doing it for like. 5 years now, especially since our anniversary is Halloween.
I think that’s all I wanted to address, fun and work related! Stay hydrated and wear yo mask everyone~

[ PERVASIVE SCARINESS COMMISSIONS ]
Yes my friends it’s that time again! I am reopening commissions! I’ve gone through and updated my TOS, updated my prices and changed some of the options offered.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Info under the cut *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
First and foremost, please take a look at the >> TOS << it’s all shiny and new and covers everything in this post and more! Now onto the good stuff...commission info!
[ What I’m Offering ]
HALF BODY (waist up, arms included in pose) ✧ Black and White Lineart: $25 ✧ Flat Color: $35 ✧ Painted: $45
FULL BODY (head to toe, baby) ✧ Black and White Lineart: $40 ✧ Flat Color: $60 ✧ Painted: $80
Flat Rate Character Portraits (shoulders up): $15 ✧ Portraits will be in black and white lineart unless a color wash is requested. ✧ Color wash is limited to a single color (I usually throw a gradient over it so it’s not entirely flat).
Extras
✧ All prices listed are for a single character. Add half the price for each additional character. ✧ $10 extra for intricate armor, weaponry, outfits/patterns (not sure if your stuff counts as ‘intricate’? Ask me!) ✧ All portraits come with the option to have a transparent background, solid fill background, a gradient fill background or a simple shape (solid or gradient) at no additional cost. ✧ More detailed backgrounds will have an additional fee depending on the complexity of the request. ✧ I’m not taking NSFW pinup requests at this time.
Got an idea that’s not covered? Hit me up and we can discuss the idea and pricing! Want a portrait but have no idea what pose you want? I am more than willing to flex my artistic creativity and come up with a good pose with you! Just ask!
I am opening ten (10) slots total at a time for full/half body portraits. $15 Portraits do not have a definitive cut off and will remain an open queue as long as I don’t get swamped. If they are piling up, I will cut them off until I am caught up, but these will generally remain open.
[ Payment? ]
All payment is in USD through Paypal Invoice. For $15 portraits, the full amount needs be paid up front before work beings. For the rest, an invoice will be sent after the initial discussion/draft phase.
[ Okay How the Heck Does This Work? ]
You send me an email with what type of commission you want (full/half/portrait, line/flat/color), the character and references. I’ll get back to you and put you on the list. If the list is full, I can put you on the wait list (free of cost) and notify you when I have a slot open.
Once we hash out your details, I’ll draft up the idea and send it over for approval. If everything looks alright and you don’t have any revisions, I’ll send the invoice! Once that’s paid, work will begin on your piece properly. $15 Portraits need to be paid up front before any work will begin on them.
I will send updates at every major stage of the piece. (i.e. the initial draft, the line work, then the colors before sending you the final).
You are allowed revisions during the draft. Once line work has been completed, you are allowed moderate revisions. Once color has been done, I will only accept minor revisions, excluding things such as color correction or small missing details (i.e. forgotten scars, face paint, freckles, etc). I am willing to work with you to ensure your picture is as true to your character/idea as you wish, but please work with me and communicate any issues before the final piece. As much as I love to please, I cannot spend days revising a piece again and again and again. So if something isn’t looking right, do not hesitate to tell me early on!
Your final piece will be sent free of watermarks and at a lovely 300dpi. You’re free to post, use and edit your piece for non-monetary, personal use. (Things like banners, avatars, character pages, etc.)
[ THINGS BEE DRAWS... ]
✧ Blood/Gore/Body horror (to an extent) ✧ Tasteful nudity (think classy pinups) ✧ Armor ✧ Mechs / Robotics ✧ Weapons ✧ Original Characters (Any fandom! Just need proper references!)
[ THINGS BEE DOES NOT DRAW... ]
✧ Hardcore NSFW ✧ Racist/hateful ideas/illegal stuff ✧ Giraffes (the actual animal)
If you’re unsure, feel free to ask for clarification!

If you are commissioning me through Tumblr or Twitter, (it’d be better if you did tumblr because I need to be more active on twitter than I am currently so I might not see it), DM me and we can chat about what you’d like.
There is a Terms of Service page on my blog, you can find it on the menu!

Artist spotlight: aaron!
✿ Commissions ✿ Ko-fi Tumblr ✿ Tumblr ✿ Instagram
header source: [X]
Introduce yourself I'm aaron and I'm a filipino artist in California! Tokyo Mew Mew was the first manga I ever owned, and my favorites are Ichigo and Lettuce!  I also love Kiyotaka Ishimaru from danganronpa, musicals, and the color yellow. When did you start drawing? Are you a digital or traditional artist? I've been drawing ever since I can remember! I used to draw random people, teen titans, or inuyasha. In high school, I got a hand-me-down wacom tablet from a friend and from there, I started creating my own ocs with backstories. I've been a digital artist since then. Do you use any traditional mediums? If so, which are your favorites? I use mechanical pencils and ballpoint pens. I really like using pink, blue, and purple highlighters to color in values, but recently I've been trying to collect actual artistic markers. I think they're calligraphy markers tbh, but they're double sided and they give me more colors so idc XD Why do you prefer traditional over digital? (or viceversa) I really like the accessibility of traditional- I can draw wherever I want, as long as I have a pen and paper. But for showing off my work, I'd much rather it be digital. Digital gives me access to so many colors and I can zoom in to create more details. It's also a lot cleaner than taking a picture with my shaky phone quality. What do you think is the most challenging part about being a traditional/digital artist? It's difficult for me to choose the correct colors. When I only did traditional, I'd only color in greyscale because that's what mangas did and that's all the colors I had. I can't really work with more than 3-5 tones/colors or else it'll get scared it'll look too busy. I always have to filter my colors to give them a little more life, because the first ones I choose are usually washed out. What inspires your pieces? I draw my ocs a lot! Drawing them in different ways and scenarios helps me solidify their designs and personalities. I will often have phases where I'll draw a LOT of my current favorite oc. Explain your "everyday" drawing process I'll either draw one single character in a flowy pose, or two characters interacting/posing together. I'll digitally sketch something out and keep erasing and re-drawing the lines on the same layer until I have my line art. I block out colors with a binary pen so that my basic color palette looks good and then select each color so I can put detail in it. Depending on how much energy I have, I'll do simple shading or I'll keep the lineart layer a little sketchy and just color over it for a lineless piece. I don't have a lot of practice with lineless because it takes a lot out of me, but sometimes I get really into it

Do you have an artist you admire (or more than one)?

https://www.instagram.com/thronekin/ (plush shaped characters, cute blush)
https://www.instagram.com/robobogart/ (designs)
https://www.instagram.com/fukashi_gimmick/ (recently followed, bright colors. interesting shapes/flow)
Is there an artwork you are most proud of? Why?
https://ubetaro.tumblr.com/post/182234099603/ubetaro-oh-mom-this-might-be-as-far-as-i-go
I really like this one because it's lineless and I put a lot of effort into the hair and giving it different colors
https://ubetaro.tumblr.com/post/181532773553/1shimaru-danganronpa-secretsanta
I am also proud of this one because it's TWO full body characters with a background and soft lighting. It took a lot of effort out of me but it was really satisfying to finish!"
Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing? Yes! I listen to musicals, chill beats, or 80's/90's music. I can't hear what I'm thinking when the music is too jumpy and fun. I also get distracted when there are people talking, so I can't listen to films or letsplays when I draw

What makes art interesting for you? I like making things! I like how my brain comes up with things and i can make those things become a reality through my art. What do you do when art block strikes? If I want to draw, and my art is looking Ugly, then I draw big and messy. Whatever comes to mind naturally, I'll just put it down. I'll draw random people, or big anime eyes. I'll redraw something with a premade design so I don't have to think of the designs myself, or I'll draw someone in a spine-breaking pose and over-exaggerate the features. What’s the most valuable art advice you’ve ever received?
Experience things! When you experience things, it gives you a personal connection to use in your art.

Ugh we went to a different grocery place and it seems like they lacked a lot of the stuff we actually -needed- so I’m still out of flour and good vegetables and other things that are important. Without that it feels like our actual food options are still super limited or time consuming, despite spending way more than usual. For example, I could make a wrap, but now it’d basically be just meat on a tortilla at that point Also I use flour in everything so it’s real limiting to not have that. I’m rationing my rice flour but I can’t use that for anything other than a thickening agent really; though this is important at least. But no flour takes out like half the stuff I can make, even so. (Well, I might try making a pancake batter with the rice flour on some broccoli later) Anyways, that’s all not great because I was already poor this week; my account is in negatives until some commission money gets through and then that’s going right to bills. I’ll also need to get about $80 in by the end of next week. I wanna get some clothes (A lot of mine are wearing out or are unsuitable for the heat) or some minis (I’m about one pack away from having a 500-pt army with) but I’m broke for a long while Today I also had to do a bunch of lineart, which gets me really ansty towards the end. Which isn’t great because I was already a little stressed out. That was the only lineart that I felt guilty about taking a while on though; I have two more linearts to do but they’re both simpler and I won’t feel the need to get them done in one day For now I’d like to sleep, but I have to get my boyfriend’s lunch done before then. I’m making some Salisbury steak and potatoes (to turn some liquid I used to braise meat with into gravy.) ....I was going to vaccuum and clean more tomorrow but I think I’ll just do laundry and sleep

Poké Balls in Icebound
As I was linearting recent pages, that showed the modern-day Poké Ball, I suddenly remembered Sammy from the Celebi movie, who had a ‘primitive’ Poké Ball and would have been from roughly the same time period, if not a little earlier, that Franz grew up in.  Needless to say, my desire to learn and apply the knowledge as accurately as I can kicked in, and I went to hunt down some Poké Ball info. I figured I could share what I found out and the conclusions/headcanons I’m going to use in Icebound, since there’s always the chance someone else could find it interesting too, and it’s not going to hurt to shed a bit of light on my thought processes, and the level of detail I reach when writing these things. It’s a bit of a long post, so brace yourself for a wall below the cut. :’D
Starting off with a disclaimer: While I’m trying to be as accurate as I can, and  to present this logically, there are a LOT of holes in Pokémon lore, and I work on the basis of believable plausibility, meaning that I try to be accurate right up until I can’t, starting with canon info from the series, then filling gaps with real-world knowledge, and finally any further holes are bridged with my own common sense. This definitely isn’t a be-all-and-end-all, but rather a headcanon that I’ve worked out to be accurate as it can be.
Without further ado, onto the Poké Balls!! My first order of business was finding out when exactly the modern Poké Ball was initially invented/produced, to know whether or not Franz would’ve been able to use them. Various relics and artefacts have been used to control and/or seal Pokémon away since the ancient times, such as the relics from Pokémopolis (the giant Gengar/Alakazam/Jigglypuff trio) and the macho-brace-looking armour attached to the Pokémon in the Arceus movie. At approx. 300 years prior to present day, the anime has shown that the concept of the modern Poké Ball was present, although the insides visually appear to lack the mirrors seen in todays ones, implying that they had minimal functionality beyond capturing.  It is a bit hazy when the current version was invented, but the Pokémon Daisuki Club encyclopaedia gives us a development year of 1925 by Professor Westwood at the Celadon University, and a B2W2 Memory Link titled ‘A New Light’ has Drayden stating that Poké Balls “didn’t exist yet,” which would imply that the modern Poké Ball took its sweet time reaching other regions.  Given that Drayden appears to be somewhere around 60-70 years of age, that’d put him roughly in 1940-50 for year of birth. With Franz born in 1968, it can be easily accepted that the modern Poké Ball as we know it had made its way to the regions beyond ‘Japan’ by the time Franz was around to use them.
My next concern however, was with the production of the Poké Ball as a commercial product. Its value, market prevalence and whether variations such as the Great Ball existed yet. We do know that in the Johto region, Apricorns were hollowed out and fitted with capture-tech, and were commonly in use by most Trainers until Poké Balls became widespread thanks to mass production by companies like Silph.
In all of the games, we’ve known the standard Poké Ball to be 200P or roughly 200¥/$2 USD if we’re talking real-world money. Sammy’s Poké Ball is likely an Apricorn Ball, or an cheaper alternative, implying that Poké Balls were not necessarily cheap when introduced to the markets. All new technology is expensive and takes a long time to become cheaper and more commonplace, so I have no doubts that the Poké Ball was no exception to this. So how much did it cost then? At this point, we have to make a little bit of a logical leap - If each new iteration of Poké Ball strength brought the standard price down, then we could argue that the Poké Ball could have at one stage cost the same or more than the Ultra Ball, which is 1200P (¥)/$11 USD. Doesn’t seem like a lot, so we should probably adjust for inflation and check the value of a dollar back then.
Going through a calculator for commodity worth, $11 in 1975 works out to $50. WHAT? $50 per Poké Ball?! Okay, we need to see if we can find a comparable product to see if that price is justified and how quickly the price dropped over time. Obviously, we do not have monsters or monster balls to capture them with, so I’m going to look at portable music players instead.
Let’s consider the portable transistor radio, first made available in 1954 as our standard Poké Ball equivalent. The next revolution in portable music came in 1962 with the first version of the Cassette player, so let’s make that our Great Ball. The cassette dominated the market for 20 years, but it took the arrival of the Boombox and the Sony Walkman in 1979 to become mainstream, giving us a good idea for when the Great Ball was ‘standardised’ in production and made commonplace. In 1982, CDs, our Ultra Ball equivalent, hit the market with the first Discman player hitting shelves in 1984, and holding pride of place until the MP3 format came along in 1998, and the subsequent explosion of MP3 players being equivalent to all of the specialised Ball variants, like the Timer, Quick and Premier Balls. Obviously, this isn’t the best comparison, as Poké Ball tech clearly didn’t become obsolete with each new version, but it definitely had the means and reason to drop in price while the technology continued to improve.
Now to initial pricing of this tech (in USD to stay consistent). Brace yourself, this is going to hurt. 1954 - Portable Transistor Radio $49.95 ($450 today) and by 1962, this had dropped to $15 ($119 today) 1979 - Walkman $150.00 ($500 today) 1984 - CD Players $350 ($825 today) 1998 - MP3 Players (MPMan) $400 ($590 today) which by 2001 was the iPod at $399 ($550 today)
...Suddenly $50 per Poké Ball doesn’t seem so unreasonable anymore, especially when you would also have to budget for food and other necessities while travelling. If we go by roughly the same timeframe as the music players for the introduction of each new strength, then Poké Balls were definitely an adult purchase; something that kids would not have been able to easily afford in the ‘70s, starting to becoming reasonable from the early ‘80s with the Great Ball, down to the 200P Price by the ‘90s with the Ultra Ball’s appearance (the ‘90s being the time that the original Pokémon games were set in, coincidentally). They would have continually gotten ‘cheaper’ as well, as places like the Kalos Poké Ball factory automated production, and the price for these three standard Balls hasn’t risen with inflation in the Pokémon world throughout 25 years of games (or about 10-15 years time if we consider the story timeline that’s been thrown around), not to mention the dozens of specialised variants introduced since then.
So at the end of the day, how is this knowledge going to affect my comic? Well, when Franz started his journey he would have not have had the means to catch a full team right away, and Poké Balls were something precious to only use when you were certain of a capture. That would’ve changed as the years went on, but that mentality of just catching whatever Pokémon you saw and rotating them around on your team was just not an affordable option for most people, and that in itself affects the attitude of the whole world around him. This really puts into perspective the seemingly little prize money Trainers awarded out in the earlier games as well, and why it never seemed to amount to much.
Being a Trainer isn’t cheap.
