omg okay so I’ve been trying to think of something appropriately AMAZING to ask you for your celebration so I raise you: 💬 Put Joel and Pin situation… DOUBLE DENIM JOEL (like him for actors and actors) she finds him a jacket? and she tailors it for him…. PLEASEEEE
I love you 🩷 so happy to be your friend
Double Denim
Seams sleepover micro drabble request | 825 words | warnings: none other than that a confident Joel is a sexy Joel, double denim menace | can be read independently of the series but is part of the Seams universe
Tumblr media
Joel stares at his closet, stumped.
He says closet, but it’s more of a glorified wire rack mounted onto the wall next to his bed. And while his collection of clothes has grown from what he crossed the country with, it’s not much more than a bunch of shirts, jeans and underwear. It’s enough that he always has something to reach for when he rolls out of bed - usually unwashed and crumpled - but hey, who’s judging?
But now, for the first time in longer than he can remember, Joel doesn’t know what to wear.
He could go for the jeans he was wearing yesterday, his nicest pair, but he got paint on it right on the crotch thanks to a clumsy manoeuvre, of all places. And he could wear that (marginally) smarter red plaid shirt that he knows you like, except there’s a stain on the front that he never managed to get rid of completely.
It’s just not good enough.
Joel shakes his head in disbelief. This is absurd. He’s a fifty-three year old man fretting about what to wear in the middle of the fucking apocalypse.
What’s probably even more absurd is the fact that it’s movie night in Jackson. He’s taking you to see Casablanca, and then to dinner afterwards.
And he wants to look nice for the occasion.
For you.
There’s only one thing to do.
You look up from the shirt you’re ironing when the doorbell rings over him at the Outfitter, and you smile. ‘Hey, what are you doing here?’
He gives you a peck on the lips. ‘Hello, sweetheart. I uh - I wanted to buy some clothes.’
‘Oh, did something break?’ you ask, setting down the iron and giving him a once over.
‘No, I just - wanted somethin’ new.’
Joel smiles at the quizzical look on your face, always so open and expressive despite your shyness. He knows his answer comes as a surprise to you, as it did to him.
He watches as your mouth parts with a grin, excitement in your eyes. ‘Never thought I’d see the day. Joel Miller partaking in some clothes shopping?’
He winks. ‘Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?’
‘Alright, so, what were you thinking?’
‘Some nice jeans, and a nice jacket - maybe,’ he adds with a touch of uncertainty.
You don’t look like you expected that answer, and you tease him in reply, ‘Nice jeans and a nice jacket? Whatever for?’
Instead of answering straight away, he reaches for your hand and pulls you close. The sweet gasp that escapes you makes his heart swell with possessiveness, and he dips to brush his words against your lips.
‘For you, sweetheart.’
You duck your head, more from habit than actual coyness, and you curl your fingers into the fabric of his shirt to keep him flush against you. ‘Are you trying to romance me, sir?’
‘I might just be, ma’am,’ he answers with an insolent grin. ‘If that gets me a discount.’
Rolling your eyes, you jokingly push him away and instruct him to wait here, before disappearing into the back of the shop.
Joel is browsing the jeans rack when you return, your hands full. At the questioning arch of his eyebrow, you explain, ‘Someone brought these in the other day, and I thought they’d fit you.’
‘Settin’ clothes aside for me? What would Maria say?’ he tuts, shaking out the jeans and the shirt with a skeptical look. ‘Denim on denim?’
You feign exasperation, pushing him towards the dressing room. ‘Just try them on, you insufferable man!’
It’s deja vu as you wait, hearing him disrobe on the other side of the curtain, and you cross your arms and try not to tap your foot, impatiently, excitedly -
When the curtain snaps back, you can’t help but stare.
Joel cocks his head to one side, a lopsided smile at his lips. ‘Well?’
A parody of your first meeting months ago, you parrot the same words back at him. ‘What do you think?’
He turns on his heels to face the mirror, pulling on the lapels of the denim jacket, perfect for mild autumnal evenings that don’t warrant his winter coat, but are a touch too cold to venture outside in just a shirt. The mid blue wash matches that of the jeans, comfortably mid-rise and straight cut, with the cuff upturned at the ankle of his brown boots. Without even thinking about it, hands in the pockets of the jacket, he twists around to check out his ass in his reflection, as unashamedly as you are.
Unlike that first time, Joel doesn’t need any prompting to answer your question.
‘I look fuckin’ good, sweetheart.’
With a grin, you slide your hands around his waist, down his ass, and into the back pockets of his jeans, biting your lip when you watch his eyes darken at your boldness, while you preen in the easy confidence that fits him even better than these jeans.
‘Hell yeah, you do.’
Tumblr media
Note: Thank you for this super cute prompt @undercoverpena! I tweaked it a little bit, but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless ❤️ AND I've been dying to put Joel in this ensemble, thank you for making my dreams come true 😘

But look how cute all the little details are! It's a lightweight, 50/50 blend. I love it! On the Black Hall Outfitters website, the color swatches are not very accurate. The aqua shirt that Jimin wore has sort of a funky faded green swatch. But if you select that swatch the color name says lagoon blue so I'm guessing that's the aqua colored shirt Jimin had on.

✨ Mods visuais que utilizo
Tumblr media

Do you have any clue why publisher portal sales numbers are so inaccurate? My editor has given my agent actual internal sales numbers, and it seems like the portal only captures about 50%. Isn't it pulling from the same info? Why is publishing so silly about data?
(With the caveat that I don't REALLY know how the portals work and every publisher's portal MIGHT be different!)
It's my *understanding* that for many publishers, when they are able to give "real time sales data" via a portal, it's a similar set-up to (or perhaps the SAME set-up as) BookScan data. In other words, they are showing actual books being sold at bookstores. Like customer walks up, cha-ching, takes the book home. Or customer clicks, cha-ching, book is sent to them.
What this does NOT capture are things like special/bulk sales, institutional sales (schools/libraries, etc), some big-box retailers, "gift type" / non-book-centric retailers that happen to sell some books (like, for example, books sold at Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters or Sur la Table or something), book clubs/fairs, books exported to other countries, etc. Bookscan just doesn't track these, those outlets are not part of their thing. Which means for SOME types of books, especially IMO children's books which often have a high number going to schools/libraries etc, BookScan can be wildly inaccurate.
(Always lower, btw - BookScan numbers literally cannot be a higher number than what is actually sold -- so if you see a great BookScan number, rejoice, because that's awesome, and the actual inaccuracy is for sure in your favor! And if your BookScan numbers are lousy or so-so, be comforted by the fact that the real number is also almost certainly higher, possibly a LOT higher if your book is very "school/library-ish").
They also don't track audio or e-book, really -- there's something you can ADD ON for those, but I have no idea if they are accurate or what, I don't have that ability with my bookscan.
(This also doesn't capture money brought in via subsidiary rights, which can at times be A LOT of money!)
So that's why the actual royalty statements are far more accurate -- they DO count all those sales and subsidiary rights. But those are for the most part only generated twice a year because it's a lot more data and books need TIME to sell. (And what is inaccurate about THEM is, especially at the beginning of a book's life, they are showing books SHIPPED to bookstores. Not all those books will sell, and some of them will be returned at a later date which will result in a future royalty statement showing negative numbers sometimes!)

Short story 1 - part 1 Taylor in the Peace
Disclaimer-I’ve never wrote jack shit so bare with me
Taylor grew up in the Peace country. For those who don’t know the peace country is a section of North west Alberta and North East British Columbia. It borders on the northern Rockies and is mostly dense forest and muskeg with a little bit of grasslands. As Taylor grew up he found himself but not just enjoying the natural world around him, but yearning for it. His best days were spent in the bush or working on his grandparents ranch. Every moment away from either of these fueled a burning desire to escape life in the small oil patch city in which he lived. He was always a bit different. Not anti social but he never was attracted to a lot of the modern day creature comforts and luxuries we have today. He didn’t understand the point in owning a huge house or a truck much bigger then required. He never wanted more then a flip phone despite everyone around him having smart phones. He didn’t care about owning a quad or a dirt bike. He always thought horses made more sense. The appeal of these luxuries escaped him. He could not understand it. Maybe partly out of spite for it. He thought highly of ranchers, trappers, outfitters, and people like that. People who could make their living off the land while leaving most of it in its natural state.
Taylor had a unique talent that he didn’t realize (at first) were unique to him. He spent a lot of time hunting the bush and he rarely came home empty handed. If he did it was because he passed up on a kill that he decided wasn’t worth it. He had an amazing sense of smell. He could smell a herd of elk, or a black bear, or even a school of fish from miles away. It saved his ass at least once when he could smell the cougar that was stalking him. His sense of smell was so strong if his parents were cooking supper he didn’t smell chili for example. He smelt every individual ingredient separately. When he was 16 he started to realize that he was a bit different. He always thought he just had a good sense of smell but it was so much more then that. He realized people couldn’t smell a deer 15 feet away let alone a couple kms away, and they definitely couldn’t smell the rainbow trout swimming underneath the water. No he was different in that regard. He elected to keep this to himself for now as he didn’t know why this was.
As he turned 18 he didn’t know what to do for a career. He wanted to just go out in the bush and live off the land but in todays society they had laws to make that difficult for a young man. His parents kept telling him to pick a trade, get certified and then he would always have that. He resented this idea. He felt like there had to be some other way but when it was presented as an avenue to live the life he wanted down the road he decided to take it.
He took a job apprenticing as a field mechanic. If nothing else this would let him work in the bush most of the time. He would always brighten up whenever he’d see wildlife and on his lunch breaks would usually trudge off to the trees to just take it in. Despite these perks to the job he grew more and more spiteful of it every day. He could see what this machinery was being used for. It was being used to take the resources from the lands he grew to love. He could see his co workers didn’t care nearly as much about the conservation of this beautiful land with its dense brush, and winding rivers. It always puzzled him because many of them were outdoorsmen/women as well. There came a cold winter day when he was 20 years old that Taylor would see something that would set him on an entirely different path.
The thing he saw that changed his trajectory was so simple. It was a small of herd of about 10 caribou. I’m this area they were critically endangered. Taylor had never seen one in person despite all his time in the bush and the mountains. He stopped and admired them for as long as he could and with his old flip phone went to take some pictures of them when someone stopped him.
“You can’t take pictures of those. If anyone finds out those caribou are here, then this job site has to get shut down.” The supervisor told him
Taylor was instantly filled with blind rage. His blood boiled at the statement. He was ready to rip this supervisors head off. His admiration for the beast had turned into more of a protective instinct. Taylor did everything he could to hold down his temper but couldn’t bare it.
“To hell with your fuckin job site then!” He shouted. As he did the caribou ran away before he could get the picture. Blaine stormed off and packed up his tools knowing full well that was the end of this job for him. For the first time in his working career he felt good about what he was doing. He made a promise to himself to not compromise on what he wanted to do with his life. And in that moment he wanted to shut down this job site.
Taylor knew better then to chase after the caribou right away. He knew they needed time to settle before tracking them down. He went back to the work camp and started making calls trying to report what he had saw. Game wardens would make it out there when they could they told him, but that wasn’t enough. Taylor still felt that more needed to be done.
He knew they were just going to try and find some way to skirt around the rules and that did not sit well. Taylor knew there was one other thing he could do.
See despite not enjoying being a mechanic he learned some valuable skills. One of them being was how to make something work. And if you know how to make it work… you know how to make sure it’ll never work again.
At this point he knew the company wasn’t going to pay for him to stay in a work camp while he pulled off his plan but that suited him fine. Taylor was more then confident to live in a shelter from pine and spruce. As night fell onto the land Taylor made his move. He put sugar in the fuel tanks of all the diesel powered equipment. He cut random wires in tightly packed in harnesses, he filled hydraulic tanks with water after draining down some of the oil. and he put rocks down the full tubes off all the engines and transmissions. And to top it off he cleaned up after all of it so that nobody would know he had been there until they went to start it.
Taylor didn’t stick around to see the chaos unfold but he did later get questioned. They could not prove it was him since he had checked out of the work camp and his truck was gone while everyone else was still working. He did go back to find the caribou however. He just wanted to see them one more time, unsure if he would ever get a chance to see this herd again.
He went on to be a hunting and trail guide for most of the year in a place called Pink Mountain. This type of work suited him so much better. He woke up every day feeling energized and ready to go. Making a living the same way many of the people he looked up to did before him. He quickly learned he had to be careful as to how much to use his sense of smell when guiding other hunters. He didn’t want to make it to easy and saved the best animals for those he thought would appreciate it the most. During the off season however he would always find time to covertly sabotage companies he felt weren’t doing their duty to the land, water, and air they made their living off of.
Around age 21 the world started to take notice of people like Taylor. People who had abilities that no other humans had, and that these people seemed to be immune to the needless marketing and propaganda of the modern world. Taylor felt a great sigh of relief when he heard this. Knowing he wasn’t alone. That many other people had some unique abilities, that also were driven into revolt against the destruction of the natural world. He felt as though this was a correction by Mother Nature. Her way of fixing a mistake she made some time ago. He knew some of the world would perceive him as a threat, or something to experiment on. But he was prepared for that. And he would be ready if the day ever came when they came for him

Hunting with a Group - How to Save on Texas Deer Hunts by Sharing Costs
Deer hunting in Texas is an iconic tradition, drawing in hunters from all over the country. Known for its vast hunting opportunities, Texas offers both trophy bucks and meat hunts. However, hunting can become an expensive endeavor, especially when factoring in permits, equipment, transportation, lodging, and outfitting services. If you're looking for cheap Texas deer hunts one effective strategy to reduce costs is group hunting. By pooling resources and sharing expenses, group hunts can bring high-quality experiences. In this article, we will dive into the benefits of hunting with a group, how to organize an affordable hunt, and key tips for maximizing value.
Tumblr media
Benefits of Group Deer Hunts
1. Cost Sharing for Affordable Hunts
When planning a hunting trip, many costs can add up quickly—lodging, guide fees, transportation, and food. A significant benefit of group hunting is that most of these expenses can be shared among participants, bringing down the per-person cost. For example, deer hunts under $1000 are often easier to arrange when several people are splitting expenses like the cost of an outfitter or cabin rental. Many outfitters even offer discounts for group bookings, making cheap Texas deer hunts much more feasible.
2. Shared Gear and Resources
Hunting equipment can be costly, but in a group setting, hunters can often share gear such as game processing tools, tents, and cooking equipment. This helps reduce the burden on individuals who might not want to invest in expensive hunting gear for a single trip. In addition, group members can exchange hunting tips and resources, which increases the overall efficiency of the hunt, potentially leading to more successful outings.
3. Safety and Support
Hunting with a group enhances safety, especially in the remote areas of Texas. When venturing out into the wilderness, having multiple people with you ensures that any potential medical issues, injuries, or other emergencies are more easily managed. Additionally, hunters can provide support in tracking down and processing game, which is particularly useful during meat hunts, where the goal is to bring home as much venison as possible.
4. Increased Hunting Success
When hunting as a group, there are more eyes on the landscape, more knowledge about animal movement, and more chances to cover multiple areas at the same time. Group members can communicate and share real-time information, increasing the likelihood of spotting and harvesting a deer.
How to Organize a Group Hunting Trip
1. Choosing the Right Location
Selecting a location for a group hunt can depend on several factors: budget, terrain, and the type of deer you're targeting. For affordable whitetail hunts in Texas, consider both public and private lands.
Public Lands: Texas offers various public hunting areas where hunters can access affordable whitetail hunts with just the cost of a permit. Some popular areas include the Sam Houston National Forest, Angelo State Park, and Davy Crockett National Forest. Public lands are great options for hunters looking to minimize expenses, as there are no fees for an outfitter or lodging if you're willing to camp.
Private Ranches: If you're looking for cheap Texas deer hunts on private lands, consider smaller, lesser-known ranches or those offering “day hunts” or meat hunts. These are ideal for hunters focused on harvesting deer for consumption rather than trophies. Many ranches provide guided or semi-guided hunts under $1000 when you book as a group. Ranches also offer amenities like skinning sheds and lodging, which can simplify the logistics of your trip.

May 10th, 2024
Sometimes, a lot of times, I really wish I had gotten a moderately wealthy/upper middle class type of upbringing. I really wish I had had my own bed room from age 10, or even better, from birth, and the mall shopping trips, and the one million after school activities. I wish I had gotten my clothes from Urban Outfitters, H&M, Forever21, and places like those. I wish I had gotten a dresser full of Bath&BodyWorks, Victoria's Secret, and all those popular middle class brands from Sephora and Ulta. I wish I was on a sports team like cross country, did ballet, played classical instruments, joined scholar clubs and societies. I wish the reason I didn't go to prom was because I just didn't want to go, and not that my sister had just gone the year before and I saw how expensive it was and I couldn't bear to make my mom spend that much money again on something so unimportant in the large scale.
I wish I had the mom who taught me how to do makeup and hair, and I wish I had the dad who took me on daddy daughter dates, bought me a car, and handled me as his whole world.
I wish I had the older sister who was actually nice to me growing up and wasn't my first bully. A sister who didnt, to this day, take every opportunity to make fun of me in front of her friends. A sister who didn't embarrass every chance she got when we went to the same school.
I wish I was born into the financial security that didn't make me think anything over $12 in skin or hair care was way too much money.
I see all these young girls on social media who are living the teenage lives I so desperately wish I had, and I'm happy for them, and hope they grow into successful adults, but Im also sad for myself.
I'm trying now, to give myself the life I wish I had growing up, but it's hard now. I have bills to pay and need to save my money. I try so hard to just appreciate the nice things I already own, but I want more. I want to buy a car, a NICE car, I want to do pilates classes, I want to do adult ballet, I want to learn the violin and piano, I want to buy new shoes that I actually really like and aren't just indifferent towards and got because they were on sale, and I needed something.
I wish I wasn't almost 30 years old with the mind and self discipline of a 12 year old. I wish I was actually thin. I wish I didnt keep cycling the same 15-20lbs. I wish I was pretty. Actually pretty, like my sister.
I hope I can get on the ball, and buy a home by the time Im 45, and pay it all off by the time Im 55. A little ambitious? Yeah.
I know technically Im still young, but I really want to be more put together by the time Im 30, and that year comes closer and closer. i only have 2 more years. I need to get serious about my goals and plans and stop self sabotaging. Even today, I was supposed to get at least half of my homework assignment done, and here we are, 10:30pm at night, and I havent gotten a damn thing done. I dont like doing all nighters, and yet this is the third time Ive pushed myself into a corner and forced myself to have to do one.
I dont have my license yet, and Ive now had the booklet for about a month and havent even opened it yet. I have got to do better. I really want to be a more successful person than my sister, but right now, she's really winning out over me.

Dreams Coming True at The Highlands Sports Complex
Tumblr media
There were 2,000 wrestlers, 125 basketball teams, and two soccer clubs from several states that competed at The Highlands Sports Complex. Last month, right? In March? Wrong. In fact, those statistics were tallied just this past weekend. General Manager Harvey Greenidge reported the Viper Pit Wrestling Nationals, the Slam Jam Basketball Tournament, and the Beadling and Victory soccer clubs all competed inside and outside the $30-million, 200-square-foot facility that opened less than four years ago in the middle of The Highlands. After all, there are six basketball/volleyball courts, full-sized indoor and outdoor turfed fields, four batting cages/pitch tunnels, a play-climb area, an arcade, a café, meeting and event spaces, and a second-floor mezzanine level so parents, coaches, and college scouts can watch from above. The interior of The Highlands Sports Complex can be configured in many ways for different events. This supercenter of sports in Ohio County employs around 100 employees with 10-15 full-time positions, and this past weekend more than 5,000 individuals entered and exited the building. So, OK, just a busy couple of days, right? What about this upcoming weekend? Well, Greenidge predicts much the same foot traffic for the Wheeling Area Chamber Home & Life Expo, the KC Productions Spring Craft Show, and the 2024 OVA Country Roads Volleyball Classic. “For this time of year,” Greenidge said with a smile, “this is normal for us. We typically have two or three tournaments or programs running at a time on Saturdays and Sundays, and we’re hoping for much more this summer. We want to keep raising the bar because we know our team and this facility can handle it. “People from across the country have visited this facility since we opened, and that speaks to the quality of what we have here,” he said. “Plus, we’re surrounded by so many stores and restaurants, so it just makes sense for the folks who come here.” The Highlands Sports Complex is an enormous structure in which fields, courts, and batting cages are located. The Commercial Count Just ask her and Christine Thomas from Quaker Steak & Lube will tell you. “When The (Highlands) Sports Complex is busy, we’re really busy here at Quaker Steak & Lube,” the eatery’s marketing manager said. “It’s really easy to explain. The sports complex is the best thing that could have happened for us after the pandemic, there’s no doubt about that. “We see the teams and the parents from all over the place,” she said. “I didn’t know what to expect when I first heard about it, but what a great thing it is for us here at The Highlands.” There also is a multi-purpose turf field on the exterior of The Highlands Sports Complex. The multi-purpose development site right along Interstate 70 has been growing since Cabela’s Outfitters opened in 2004, and the sports complex added a tourism dimension that packs restaurants and fills hotel rooms 12 months a year.   “It’s a terrific facility for a lot of different reasons, and it’s become a great source of traffic for all of the other businesses at The Highlands,” said Don Nickerson, the president of the Ohio County Commission. “I think it's a huge benefit to the restaurants and the hotels and even to the retail operations up there. I would have never imagined the sports complex could become what it is today, but the people who were commissioners before had that vision and it’s been very successful just like The Highlands has been through the years. “From a personal standpoint, when my daughter is playing basketball or my son is shooting archery, we always visit other businesses at The Highlands before or after their competitions,” he said. “And you always see the kids in their uniforms and with their parents at the businesses and restaurants, so there’s no doubt the sports complex is having a direct impact that’s been very positive.” Supply, Demand, and The Bottom Line “Incredible.” “Awesome.” “Amazing.” The Highlands Sports Complex is pleasing and popular among AAU tournament directors, sports camp directors, exposition organizers, and professional franchises like the Wheeling Miners, and the one comment the facility’s general manager hears most is, “Sure wish we had one of these back home.” “I hear that from our out-of-town people all of the time. Everyone who comes here wants to take it home with them because it’s a very nice facility,” Greenidge said. “But these facilities are regional so the children who live locally really are the lucky ones, and we do have a lot of local student-athletes that come here because of everything you can do on the inside. Birthday parties for local children are very popular at The Highlands Sports Complex. “The Highlands Sports Complex is really a great place for birthday parties, too, because we have a great arcade and the climbing area,” he said. “Kids have a great time here, that’s for sure.” Dollars and sense, Commissioner Nickerson explained, will determine when expansion should take place. “There have been conversations about what could be next at the sports complex and we have had requests for some outdoor baseball fields,” Nickerson explained. “And we’ve heard about ice and about a fitness center, too, and right now it’s a matter of economics because the sports complex still doesn’t pay for itself. The (Ohio) County Commission still subsidizes it. “And we knew that was going to be the case for a while after it opened, and we were told it would be probably a five-year break-even point and it’s close to four years at this point,” the commissioner added. “So, it’s just a matter of the economics when it comes to expansion.” The large arcade at the sports complex adds new games as they become available.
