En el procedimiento fueron detenidos dos hombres quienes mantenían un centro de distribución de drogas. Los hombres fueron identificados como Sergio Casanova y Marcos González. Les incautaron 20 plantas de Cannabis con un peso aproximado de 6,225 kg, y 96 envoltorios con un peso de 120 gramos, también dos teléfonos celulares, dinero en efectivo y una moto. Este diagnóstico impactó a vecinos y productores por ser la primera vez que en sector Rancho Verde de Moroturo se enfrentaban a esta enfermedad. Estiman que se trata sólo de cinco casos. En la Dirección de Salud confirman que no se tienen zonas endémicas en el estado y han mantenido un descenso a cinco tratados al mes, cuando se tenía un promedio de hasta 400 casos hace cuatro años. Suárez, de 46 años, supo que tenía paludismo, también conocido como malaria a mediados de agosto, así como su cuñado, José Antonio Piña. Suponen que fueron contagiados por un familiar, quien estuvo trabajando en las minas de Colombia y regresó a Urdaneta, tuvo una recaída en julio. Para el 5 de agosto, seguramente ya había sido infectado por el mosquito anopheles sintiendo todos los síntomas. Lamenta que fue atendido en el ambulatorio de Santa Inés, pero no mejoraba. "Deberían referir a uno si no conocen de la enfermedad". Su hija que es militar se lo trajo hasta el Hospital Militar de Barquisimeto, donde le mandan a hacer la serología de la gota gruesa en Contraloría Sanitaria, y resultó positivo de malaria. El tratamiento fue administrado por el Estado a base de cloroquina de 150 mg y primaquina de 15 mg. Alcifredo Reyes, presidente de la Asociación de Ganaderos de Urdaneta, señala que alrededor de 200 familias están en riesgo y que han realizado el llamado a la alcaldía, pero no han fumigado por este sector. De hecho, hasta se dirigieron a las sede de Contraloría Sanitaria con la solicitud y les confirmaron que contaban con los químicos, equipos y personal, pero necesitan coordinar unidades de traslado. About the Manila Galleon:

The Manila–Acapulco galleon trade finally began when Spanish navigators Alonso de Arellano and Andrés de Urdaneta discovered the eastward return route in 1565. Sailing as part of the expedition commanded by Miguel López de Legazpi to conquer the Philippines in 1564, Urdaneta was given the task of finding a return route.[10] Reasoning that the trade winds of the Pacific might move in a gyre as the Atlantic winds did, they sailed north, going all the way to the 38th parallel north, off the east coast of Japan, before catching the westerlies that would take them back across the Pacific. He commanded a vessel which completed the eastward voyage in 129 days; this marked the opening of the Manila galleon trade.[11] Reaching the west coast of North America, Urdaneta's ship, the San Pedro, hit the coast near Santa Catalina Island, California, then followed the shoreline south to San Blas and later to Acapulco, arriving on October 8, 1565.[12] Most of his crew died on the long initial voyage, for which they had not sufficiently provisioned. Arellano, who had taken a more southerly route, had already arrived.

Muslim merchants from Gujarat, based in Cambay, dominated maritime trade in the Indian Ocean in the 15th century, supported by Hindu and Jain financiers and an organized network of correspondents. The Malabar coast, a major pepper supplier, served as a hub for commercial interactions between Arab merchants from the Gulf of Aden or Oman and Chinese merchants – or their intermediaries – from Sumatra and Malacca. Muslim merchants primarily engaged in the spice trade.

The arrival of Vasco da Gama in Calicut in 1498 disrupted this system. In 1502, King Manuel entrusted him with commanding a second expedition aimed at eliminating all Muslim presence in the Indian Ocean. The Sultans of Gujarat and the Deccan sought assistance from a Mamluk fleet to counter the Portuguese, but it was defeated before Diu in 1509, paving the way for Portuguese conquests of Goa in 1510, Malacca in 1511, Hormuz in 1515, Diu in 1535, and Daman in 1539.

The Portuguese occupied the southwest coast of Ceylon from 1505 to access cinnamon, establishing a fort in Colombo in 1518. They controlled the north, west, and south coasts of the island, key areas for the cinnamon and precious stone trade.

The Moluccas were another target because the Banda Islands produced nutmeg, while Ternate and Tidore produced cloves. The Portuguese established privileged relations with the sultans of Ternate and Tidore, facilitating their settlement in Amboyna and Timor, despite the capture of Malacca from Sultan Mahmoud Shah.

The Portuguese monopoly endured until the emergence of the English East India Company and the Battle of Swally in 1612.

Meanwhile, Spain remained engaged in the spice race, aiming to connect America to the Moluccas and their spices. Following expeditions in 1525 (Loayza) and 1528 (Saavedra), Spain secured a definitive return route in 1565 (Urdaneta) and established settlements in the Philippines in 1571.
