Punch-hole displays have not seen much of the world since their introduction by Samsung for the first time in the Galaxy S10 series. Much of the time after that, it remained a feature confined to the high-end or premium phones as the Note 10 series or Honor 20 Pro. However, a short time back, Tecno surprised both the market and the consumer by including the feature in Camon 12 Air and now Infix follows suit. Recently Infinix has launched the S5 duo both featuring a tiny little camera in the punch hole on the top-left of the display.
Infinix camera
The main highlighting feature of this couple is the camera section where it truly out does its competitors. Beginning with the front, the punch hole surrounds a 32MP in-display camera sensor backed by the Super Pixel Technology. It effectively helps in making your selfies beautiful and precise using the multiple features as HDR+, AI-powered 3D face beauty and AR stickers. These features can also be applied on videos shot using the selfie cam.
There lies an elegant crystal feather pattern all across the back of the phone along with the fingerprint sensor as well as the quad-camera setup. This AI-supported camera family contains a primary sensor of 16 megapixels. It is assisted by the square-shaped Ultra-wide angle and Macro lens camera which allows to capture the entire landscape as well as details of the smallest objects depending on the mode you choose to use. Third in the line is the depth sensor which helps to capture DSLR-like portrait images. There is another dedicated AI lens camera which helps the AI to beautify your pictures skillfully and correctly. Not to forget the quad LED flash which lights up the shot with the glimmer.
Infinix battery
The pattern on the back is inspired by the Quetzal bird design further glorified by the gradient Cyan, Violet and Nebula Black colors. The gadget houses a massive 4000 mAh battery able to survive through 3 days of your extensive usage. Infinixâs very own Xcharge fast-charging technology also serves to ease you on the backup part. Both the phones run on XOS 5.5 which is the latest Infinix-version of the Android 9 Pie. All of this runs on a Mediatek Helio P22 chipset.
Talking about the RAM and internal storage, S5 comes in two variants. A lower range variant priced 23,999 PKR houses 4GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage while the other somewhat premium variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The latter is priced 27,999 PKR. Storage capacity can be further extended using an SD card of up to 256GB.

Redmi Note 7 Review
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 full review Following a Chinese launch in January the Redmi Note 7 officially went on sale in the UK on 7 May, charging straight into the top spot in both our UK and Chinese budget phone charts, knocking the Mi A2 Lite off its perch. It's the first phone from newly spun-off Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi, and as such it marks a huge departure from Redmi as you know it.
Headlining is a 48Mp dual-lens camera, and Redmi Note 7 was actually the first Xiaomi phone to pack such a high megapixel count - though Mi 9 then came along and did it better. There are some similarities between this budget phone and Xiaomi's flagship, but Redmi Note 7 is much more closely aligned in specs and performance with the Oppo F11 Pro, another Chinese phone that has not yet gone on sale in the UK (and may not ever do so).
It's also got a large 6.3in Full-HD+ screen and promises all day runtime from a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 support. Plus some users will be very happy to see the inclusion of a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.
Xiaomi has kept down costs by specifying a mid-range Snapdragon 660 chip and 3- or 4GB of RAM, allowing this budget Android to be available from as little as ÂŁ179. That's for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage model, while the 6GB RAM, 64GB storage model we review here costs ÂŁ199. There's also a 128GB storage version at ÂŁ249. You can choose from Space Black or Neptune Blue colour options.
Right now GearBest is offering an incredible deal on the entry-level 3GB/32GB option, where it costs just ÂŁ113.54.
You can also buy Redmi Note 7 direct from Xiaomi, or from retailers such as Amazon. It will also be available on a contract basis from Vodafone.
The Redmi Note 7 is available in Europe from 179âŹ, but if you're looking to buy in the US you'll need to import it from a site such as GearBest or Geekbuying. The latter is currently stocking the global version of the top-end Redmi Note 7 at the discounted price of ÂŁ170.01/$209.99/185.57âŹ. Do remember to take into account potential import duty fees, which is calculated at 20 percent of the value on the shipping paperwork.
Redmi Note 7 review (Also see: Best Xiaomi Deals)
Redmi Note 7 Design & Build Redmi Note 7 is not all that dissimilar in design to the flagship Mi 9, which packs a fractionally larger (6.39in) screen into an ever so slightly smaller chassis. Both have tall 19.5:9 panels and slim bezels - naturally slimmer on the Mi 9, but the only place this is really obvious to the untrained eye is on its smaller chin.
Each also feature a Dot Drop (waterdrop-style) notch to maximise the available screen space and house the selfie camera, which is more obvious on Mi 9 with its larger 20Mp sensor (Redmi Note 7 has a 13Mp front camera). There's also a blink-and-you'll-miss-it slit at the extreme edge between the screen and frame for the earpiece.
Around the back you'll find some more obvious differences, however, with a dual- rather than triple lens camera on the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi rather than Mi logo, and a physical fingerprint sensor. All members of the flagship Mi 9 family now use an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Arguably physical fingerprint sensors typically work better than these early in-display versions, and though it might be a fancy new feature to have the omission is not a game-changer.
Redmi Note 7 review
We tested the Black version so were unable to enjoy the gradient finish of the Blue model, but in pictures it looks gorgeous. With a glass back and front the Redmi Note 7 has a very premium design for a phone at this price point, and is only fractionally thicker than Xiaomi's flagship family at 8.1mm, though you will notice that glossy frame is plastic rather than metal. That extra space inside the case enables it to include a capacious 4,000mAh battery, too, matching the spec of the recently announced Mi 9T.
Something you won't find on Mi 9 phones (save for the Mi 9T) is the Redmi Note 7's 3.5mm headphone jack, which sits on the top edge of the phone alongside another increasingly rare feature: an IR blaster. While phone makers are rapidly making the switch over to USB-C audio, there are still plenty of users who want to use their existing earphones without an adaptor. Redmi Note 7 also has a bottom-firing mono speaker for audio.
At 6.3in the display is expansive, and ideal for watching high-resolution video and playing games. This is not the same AMOLED technology on Mi 9, but it's still good for the money, and actually nearly as bright - we recorded 398 nits using a Spyder. With a 2340x1080 Full-HD+ resolution everything is super-clear, too.
Although the Redmi Note 7 runs MIUI 10, on our review sample the system-wide Dark Mode setting found in the flagships is not available. It's possible this will come in the next update, with the Redmi running 10.3.2.0 and our Mi 9 running 10.3.3.0. This is useful not only because it seems to be the latest trend to do everything in Dark Mode, but because it drastically reduces the screen's impact on battery life.
The Redmi Note 7 also lacks the Ambient Display (always-on) mode found in Xiaomi flagships, which can additionally help you maintain battery life by reducing the frequency with which you feel you need to wake the phone to check the time or notifications. That could be an issue here, since Redmi Note 7 has the most ridiculous notification LED we've ever seen - it flashes up below the screen but is the tiniest little dot you could easily miss it completely.
Redmi Note 7 review
None of Xiaomi's current smartphone line-up is waterproof, though we wouldn't necessarily expect to find this feature at this price anyhow. Xiaomi also keeps down costs by excluding wireless charging from this phone, though it does support Quick Charge 4 and is supplied with a 10W USB-C charger in the box.
As with all Xiaomi phones you'll also find a silicon case is supplied, a nice touch given that these are not easily obtainable in UK High Street stores. The Note 7 does feature Gorilla Glass 5 to help protect it from scratches, but it is not infallible.
Redmi Note 7 Core Hardware & Performance The Note 7 is fitted with a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 14nm chip, which integrates an 850MHz Adreno 512 GPU. This is a step down from the also mid-range Snapdragon 712 and 730 found in the Mi 9 SE and 9T, but there's not a huge difference in performance - at least not anything the average user would be able to perceive - as you'll see in the comparison chart below.
You'll have seen this chip before, in the likes of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi Mi A2, Nokia 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy A9, Elephone U Pro and so forth. It's quite a popular processor. And while Redmi Note 7 is not significantly faster than any of those other phones that use it, something you should note is that it is significantly cheaper.
The Redmi Note 7 offers capable - if not flagship - daily performance, and provided you don't turn up the detail too much some very playable framerates. In GFXBench's T-Rex and Manhattan tests we recorded 46- and 21fps, for example.
The 4000mAh battery inside is good for a day's use, but no more. In Geekbench 4's battery test we recorded 7 hours 16 minutes, which is actually a pretty middling score and a little lower than we had anticipated given the huge capacity of the battery.
As we mentioned earlier on in this review you get a choice of 3- or 4GB of RAM. We tested the latter, and this is the version we recommend for the best performance, especially when it costs only an extra ÂŁ20.
Redmi Note 7 review
A major advantage of Redmi over Mi is its support for storage expansion, so there's no reason why you shouldn't opt for the lower-capacity version and bolt on extra storage later, if and when you need it. Redmi Note 7 can accept microSD cards up to 256GB via a hybrid SIM tray - you must choose between dual-SIM functionality and storage expansion. If you do opt for a second SIM instead, know that either SIM slot can be used for 4G data, but unlike with the Mi 9 family you can't use 4G on both at once.
In terms of connectivity there's also dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and an IR blaster. You will not find NFC for making mobile payments, so if this is important to you step up to the Mi line.
Redmi Note 7 Cameras & Photography For a budget phone the Redmi Note 7's cameras are pretty good, though not quite as good as the marketing might have you believe.
The star of the show is a 48Mp lens that by default actually takes 12Mp shots. This is because it combines four pixels into one, averaging out the quality, exposure, colours and so on to create one significantly better-looking super pixel.
This is paired with a 5Mp secondary lens for blurred background (bokeh) shots, and together the Note 7 is capable of some decent - if a little dull - photography, given good lighting. Zoom right in and some noise is visible, but zoomed out the results are more than acceptable for a sub-ÂŁ200 phone.
In low lighting the camera has more work to do, and even in Night mode it still struggles. Here you need to be really careful to keep the camera still for what feels like forever as it processes the shot. Though it did a good job of picking out different colours, including the different shades of black, text can be a little fuzzy and edges less well defined. Not a bad result, but equally not the best.
This is an AI camera, which means Xiaomi's software can intelligently set an appropriate preset for the shooting scenario. The app is very easy to use, and you can quickly switch between photo and video, Portrait, Night, Square, Panorama and Pro modes, and there's a shortcut for preinstalled Google Lens right within the app, too.
There's also an option to shoot in 48Mp, though all this is going to really do for you is gobble through your storage, since the results are not any better for the extra pixels.
The Redmi Note 7 supports 1080p video capture at 30- or 60fps with image stabilisation, but 4K and slow-mo video is off limits.
Around the front is a 13Mp AI camera for selfies, and in this mode the app offers quick access to various beauty settings.

Redmi Note 7 Software The Redmi Note 7 runs MIUI 10, which is a custom version of Android 9 Pie. Since we're using a Global ROM model it comes preinstalled with Google services and an English-language keyboard and interface, so setup is as simple as on any Android phone.
You will find Xiaomi offers its own version of most Google apps, which does mean there's some duplication here, and most cannot be deleted (or removed from the app tray-less home screen, though you can tuck them away in a folder where they will remain out of sight and out of mind). This is for good reason, since Chinese ROM MIUI devices don't have those Google apps. Some of these apps are pretty decent, however, so either use them, or don't - there's enough storage that you don't really need to worry about them.
Redmi Note 7 review
We noted earlier that the Redmi Note 7 currently lacks the Dark Mode and Ambient Display found on the Mi 9 family. The software is pretty much the same in other respects, and there are some great extras only found on Xiaomi phones such as Dual Apps and Second Space.
A Split-screen mode is also found in the recents menu, with is accessible either from the onscreen button or by swiping from the bottom of the screen and then pausing before lifting your finger in the gesture-only Full Display mode.
While the notification LED is so pathetic that you're likely to miss it completely, you do get individual app control over which are allowed to display notifications on the lock screen or float at the top of the screen, which means only the most important will be allowed to distract you. Finding your way around the settings may not be immediately obvious, however.
Redmi Note 7 Conclusion Redmi Note 7 is a very decent mid-range phone with a budget price. In the UK budget smartphone market none of its similarly priced rivals (think Mi A2 Lite, Honor 10 Lite, Moto G7 Power) even come close.
In design it's not all that far removed from Xiaomi's flagship, with a similarly large and almost as bright display, but it's not of quite the same quality. In performance most users would not be able to separate Redmi Note 7 and Mi 9 SE, and it's as capable as many phones costing ÂŁ350.
Compared to the flagship line it adds microSD support and a headphone jack, but loses the wireless charging, in-display fingerprint sensor and NFC for mobile payments. The triple-lens camera is here reduced to a dual-lens model, but still has a huge 48Mp lens headlining.
On paper the capacious 4,000mAh battery looks amazing; in reality you should get a full day's use from it.

Top 8 Android Phones to Spend Your Money on!
Android has been the best operating system if you wish freedom of choice. There are many options from tons of OEMs, but sometimes that makes it challenging to select the best Android phone. We canât promise that choosing a phone will be easy. No two Smartphone are alike, but thatâs why we like this operating system. Every manufacturer is growing its own hardware and Android version, so itâs all about what you rate in a device. Now, letâs check out our best Android phone for 2022.
Buying the Best Android Phone According to Your Needs
There are many devices of Android; you can use any spec you wish to narrow down the options. Maybe you want the best quality camera phone you can get, or you want the most extensive battery. You will also wish to consider how much storage and RAM you need for your mobile apps, videos, and more.
The important thing you have to keep in mind is your deviceâs build quality. Most devices of the premium flagship are glass sandwiches â glass on the back and front with a metal frame to grip it all together. Now, we have broken all of our instructions below into categories to help you to figure out which phone is best for you.
The Best Android Phones
1. Google Pixel 6

Samsungâs premium Galaxy S21 ultra henpecked our list as the best phone of Android for much of last year, but there is a new model launch in town. The pixel 6 has taken the galaxy S21 ultra place atop the standings. For starters, Google has revamped the camera unit to match its solid image processing chops. The camera bar houses a 12MP ultrawide shooter and a 50MP primary lens. Although, we are disinclined with the vanilla pixel 6 as our top pick for its excellent value. With this, you will get 128GB or 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM on board, and googleâs tensor chip ties the knowledge together. The standard pixel 6 provides a 6.4-inch display, or you can jump to the 6.7-inch creature on the Pixel 6 Pro. Both models bring IP ratings and speedy wireless charging to keep you moving.
Pros:
Unique design, premium
Powerful battery life
Unbeatable price
Cons:
Slow charging
Iffy fingerprint sensor
2. Asus ROG Phone 6 Series: The Best Gaming Phones

The second device in the series of ROG phone 6 is more or less identical to the model pro. There are only two differences: that it tops out at 16GB of RAM rather than 18 GB and that it dearths a secondary rear display, which displays the text message, the time, logos, and other things. The phones are not the best, though, as they have a limited IPX4 rating and donât stand out in terms of camera quality.
Pros:
Extreme performance
Powerful gaming features
Excellent battery life
Cons
No wireless charging
Limited IP rating
So-so camera performance
3. Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus: The Great Software Experience

For starters, the Galaxy S22 ultra phone feels like a device on its own. It offers five years of daily security patches, which takes the duo through 2027. Thanks to the built-in S pen slot and boxer design, itâs close to a galaxy note 20 successor. It also skips a contour-cut camera design with the assistance of tiny bubbles for every lens. However, Samsung changed the design elements; the Galaxy S22 ultra brings the same camera setup from last year. All the latest flagships of Samsung offer the snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in the united states. Other markets will get the 45W charging to the back on the menu side and Exynos 2200 to keep the lights on. Samsung also made the inquisitive decision to shrink Samsung batteries this year. The Galaxy S22 also offers a 3,700mAh cell, down from 4,000 mAh. But the Galaxy S22 plus was released from 4,800mAh to 4,500mAh.
Pros:
Unbeatable update commitment
Refined camera setups
Faster charging on the S22 Plus
Cons:
Smaller batteries
Limited storage options
4. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3: The Great Foldable Phone

We have usually been focused on traditional and powerful Android smartphones so far, but now itâs time for something that will turn heads. The Samsung Galaxy Z fold 3is the best foldable phone you can purchase right now. While it might not be the exact value buy as a Galaxy Z flip 3, the Galaxy Z fold 3 packs all the whistles and bells you can ever ask for. Itâs a perfectly pocket-sized device when you fold, yet the 6.2-inch display is enough to manage all your notifications. When you open it up, you are considered to have a massive 7.6-inch AMOLED display, which comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also features Samsungâs official crack at under-display selfie cameras, even if itâs not the perfect camera around. You will also find a true flagship processor in the form of Qualcommâs Snapdragon 888. although the Z flip 3 device shows that foldable are more affordable, the Z fold 3 shows you how far they can go
Pros:
Highly refined design
Improved displays
IPX8 rating
Cons:
Bulky to carry and hold
Only average camera performance
Mediocre battery life
5. Google Pixel 6a: Best on a Budget

The new Google pixel 6 is an affordable mid-range device powered by Googleâs own tensor chip, which is found in the more costly pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It supports 5G, but if you go for the handset Verizon version, then you can get mmWave. The phone unlocked variants only support sub-6GHz. Like other pixels, the 6a has excellent camera quality and software support. It may not get as various OS updates as a few Samsung phones three; instead of four-but, it will get the current version of Android on day one. It also features an in-display fingerprint scanner, an IP68 rating, and stereo speakers. It does have some coins, such as bad battery life.
Pros:
Powerful Tensor chip
Great software
Excellent image processing
Long-term update commitment
Cons:
Worse than average battery life
Slow charging
Only 60Hz display
Tensor runs hot
6. OnePlus 10 Pro: The Best Battery Experience

OnePlus has been dominating the battery charge for many years, bringing speedy warp charging to flagship and mid-range models. Now the OnePlus 10 pro allows you to tap into 80W or 65W weird charging with 50W wireless speeds. The device does not provide the largest battery, but the 5,000mAh is no droop. Although, itâs precisely a pair of 2,500mAh cells that can charge at the same time. Apart from its battery, the rest of the OnePlus 10 pro is also perfect. The 48MP and 50MP rear lenses can wrap many scenarios, while the 8MP telephoto adds 3.3x optical zoom. It also provides a fast snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the cheapest to preserve your stirring, and more than 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage.
Pros:
Excellent display
Good primary camera
Blistering charging
Cons:
T-Mobile exclusive IP rating
Inconsistent software
Imbalanced software
7. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: The Best Camera Phone for Android

Samsung announced the ultra moniker with the galaxy S20 series before offering it a serious boost on the current version. The upgraded camera array is the most significant change to come on the galaxy S21 ultra. The solid camera setup kicks off with a 108MP primary lens flanked by a 10MP periscope telephoto, a 10MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. You will find a sharp 40 MP selfie shooter on the front side, so you can capture anything. At the same time, Samsung does not have the exact image processing prowess as Google does. In addition, the Galaxy S22 ultra is not just the best camera phone but one of the best devices in the market. It packs a massive 5,000mAh battery, a large 6.8-inch WQHD + display, and a flagship-grade snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor.
Pros:
Premium build quality
S Pen functionality
Unbeatable software support
Cons:
Average battery life
Less base RAM
8. Sony Xperia 1 IV: Perfect for Content Creators

Sony is addressing content creators with its latest flagship device that features a variable focal length periscope zoom camera for video and gaming. It also comes with Sonyâs camera pro, video pro, and music pro apps that creators will find helpful. The Xperia 1 IV has a microSD card slot and headphone jack, which are missing on most high-end phones. With this device, you will get 30W charging, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 6.5-inch 4K display. Itâs the best phone for content creators, and itâs hard to approve it for anyone else.
Pros:
Unique content creator apps
Superb camera autofocus
Stellar video capture
Best-in-class speakers
Cons:
Very expensive
Finicky charging
No variable refresh rate
Sub-par update promise
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Whatâs the best Android phone for kids?
On the Android device slide, the budget-friendly Google pixel 6a and moto G power is the best phone now.
What about an Android phone for seniors?
There are many options for seniors with simplified menus, and we consider a Samsung device for its feature of easy mode. You can load up a launcher also, like a simpler or big launcher, to make diapers or menus extra approachable.
Are older flagship phones worth purchasing?
Yes! Latest flagships are worth buying, even up to a year after release. You can commonly save a good amount of money at this time and get good performances. At this point, we donât recommend purchasing a 4G flagship, but most 5G flagships are good to go.

Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic hands-on: Worry not, Tizen fans
youtube
We knew the Galaxy Watch 4 was coming, and that it would run the new Wear OS Samsung co-engineered with Google. We even saw previews of what it would look like. But that doesn't mean there's nothing left to learn about Samsung's latest smartwatches. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Classic 4, which launched today, feature a new 3-in-1 sensor, sharper screens and can even perform body fat scans. At a demo event in New York, I was able to check them both out and see what Wear OS on a Galaxy watch looks like.
Before we get too far ahead though, itâs worth noting that Samsungâs getting rid of the âActiveâ branding from its existing lineup â the Watch 4 is the spiritual successor to the Watch Active 2 (there wasnât an Active 3). Meanwhile, itâs adding the âClassicâ moniker to the previous âregularâ Watch line, which the Watch 4 Classic is now the latest member of. Yep, not confusing at all.
The new Wear OS on Samsung is basically Tizen
Setting aside the frustrating rebranding, Tizen fans have nothing to worry about with the new OS on the Watch 4s. Thereâs barely any difference. The main change I noticed is that instead of All Apps being one of the pages that you come across when swiping sideways through the watch, you can now access them by pulling up from the home screen. Otherwise, you can still swipe horizontally to scroll through widgets and cards like Weather, Exercise, Heart Rate and Stress, while quick settings are above the home screen.
Cherlynn Low / Engadget
This similarity to Tizen is something Samsung and Google are aware of. A Google spokesperson told Engadget that Wear OS 3 lets device makers add customized user experiences on top of the platform, like picking specific apps and services to be the default options. Though the two companies collaborated to âbring together the best of Wear OS and Tizen into one unified platform,â itâs becoming evident that smartwatch makers will still bring distinct identities to their devices.
To distinguish between different versions of Wear OS, there will be unique branding as well. For example, the Galaxy Watch 4 series is running âWear OS powered by Samsung.â
Itâs still unclear what Wear OS 3 will look like on other devices, but a Google spokesperson added that âwhile we expect many watches to have this experience in the future, there will start to be new consumer experiences introduced to the ecosystem.â Confusing? Potentially. But for now, it sounds like, while Google and Samsung did collaborate on a unified wearable platform, Galaxy smartwatches will run what amounts to a renamed version of Tizen with better third-party app support.Â
There are updated Google Maps, Messages, Pay and YouTube Music experiences, along with new apps and Tiles from Calm, MyFitnessPal, Strava, Sleep Cycle, Spotify and more. The Play Store is also available on the Galaxy Watch 4 for wrist-based discovery and installation, while Samsungâs One UI interface makes it easier to keep your phone and watch themes and notifications in sync.
Minor cosmetic updates
On the Watch 4 Classic, youâll find Samsungâs hallmark rotating the bezel for spinning through widgets. Like the Galaxy Watch 3, the mechanical wheel is lighter and less clunky than older models, while still getting into each notch with a satisfying click.
Cherlynn Low / Engadget
The larger variants of both the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic feature sharper 450 x 450 displays, while remaining basically the same size as before. The Classic now comes in 42mm and 46mm options versus 41mm and 45mm before, and the regular or Active models are still available in 40mm and 44mm. Also, Samsung is offering the Classic style in black, silver or green, and the standard edition in black, silver or pink.
In person, the black and silver Watch 4s looked like green and white, respectively, though that might have something to do with the warm lighting in our demo area. And though they have bigger faces than I like, the Watch 4 felt comfortable on my wrist â so much so that I forgot I was wearing one and almost walked out of our briefing with it on. Meanwhile, the Watch 4 Classic, which weighs 46.5 grams (or 52 grams in the 46mm size), felt heavier and more noticeable.
A new sensor and processor
Hardware improvements to the Watch 4 series donât end at aesthetics. The biggest change this year is what Samsung is calling a new 3-in-1 BioActive sensor. The three here refers to optical heart rate, electrical heart rate and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). In addition to a smaller design that uses one chip to run the trio of sensors, this also enables a new feature: Body Composition measurement.
Iâm super excited for this new service, since I like the additional insight that my body fat percentage brings to my understanding of my overall health. BMI is only one facet of your general fitness (and not a great one at that), and having a convenient way to get a body fat scan is something Iâve been looking for. Iâve been using Amazonâs camera-based tool in its Halo app to get a reading every month (the most accurate method would be to visit a doctor for a full DXA scan, but Iâve yet to take one).
Mat Smith / Engadget
I used the preview units of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic to take two separate readings of my body composition. It was surprisingly easy. All I had to do was fill in my gender, height and weight, then hold my middle and ring fingers against the two buttons on the watch for about 15 seconds. Both times, the smartwatches gave me a result of 30.8 percent, which is a little higher than what I usually get from Amazonâs app, but not too far off.
Other improvements to health-tracking include new snoring detection via a compatible smartphone, more accurate sleep-logging and faster auto-detection of workouts. Overnight, too, the Watch 4s will measure your blood oxygen level. Of course, I couldnât test the sleep-related features at our brief preview session.
The Watch 4 series are also the first Galaxy Watches to sport 5nm processors, with a 20 percent faster CPU, 50 percent more RAM (16GB) and a GPU thatâs 10 times speedier than the previous generation, according to Samsung. From my limited experience with them, the Watch 4s certainly felt fast, but Iâd need more time in the real world to know how they hold up against the likes of Apple and Fitbit.
Cherlynn Low / Engadget
Samsung also promises up to 40 hours of battery life on the Galaxy Watch 4 series, though versions with LTE will likely have shorter runtimes. When you run out of juice, you should be able to get up to 10 hours of power in 30 minutes, too.
Along with the sleep-tracking features and overall performance improvements, battery life is another thing I look forward to testing on the Galaxy Watch 4 when we receive review units. The wearables go on sale on August 27th, though you can pre-order them today, with the smaller Watch 4 starting at $250 and the Watch 4 Classic costing $100 more.Â
While Iâm stoked about the body composition measurement feature, Iâm not yet convinced that the new Galaxy Watches with Wear OS powered by Samsung can take on Appleâs watchOS. But, at least based on my early impressions, Samsung continues to have the best smartwatch for Android users, even if thatâs not a very high bar.
Follow all of the news from Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event right here!

Buy the Fnatic Streak Mechanical Gaming Keyboard on Amazon.
Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse â $40
If thereâs one thing Logitech knows, itâs mice, and the G502 Hero is a brilliant gaming mouse. Its sensor is up to 16,000 DPI and it features 11 customizable buttons with onboard memory to remember your specific button setup for each game. There are five removable 3.6g weights to ensure it offers just the right amount of resistance, and thereâs programmable RGB lighting to boot. It started out at $80, so for $40 is simply a bargain.Â
Buy the Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse on Amazon.
EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 601/602 Headset â $219
EPOS | Sennheiser are well known for making audio products that aim for the highest quality sound, and the GSP 601 and 602 headsets bring this dedication to gamers in style. Not only do these headsets provide exceptional audio quality to help you pinpoint your opponents in multiplayer shooters, but theyâre also extremely comfortable and the microphone can be easily adjusted to cope with your voice. While these headsets are primarily designed for PC use, but it supports Macs as well as the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbos Series X and Nintendo Switch.

Buy the GSX 300 External Sound Card on Amazon.
VR
Oculus Quest 2 â $299
The Oculus Quest 2 is the device that should, by all rights, bring virtual reality to the mainstream. It doesnât need external cameras, so setup time is minimal, and it doesnât need an expensive PC to run the games, either. Just download games and apps to the headset , pop it on your head, and away you go.
Of course, if you do have a high-powered PC, you can play amazing titles like Half Life: Alyx with the optional Oculus Link cable, too.
Buy the Oculus Quest 2 on Amazon.
Valve Index â $999
If money is no object, you have the PC grunt to run it, and you can actually get hold of one, then the Valve Index is the virtual reality headset to get this year. It lacks the immediacy of the Oculus Quest 2 and canât run without a PC or the movement tracking base stations, but the room scale experience is second to none with crisp visuals and high refresh rates to really lose yourself in a virtual world. Pair with Half-Life: Alyx. Trust us.
Buy the Valve Index on Amazon.
Phones and Wearables
Apple iPhone 12 Pro â $999
If youâre a hardcore Apple fan, then the iPhone 12 Pro is simply as good as it gets. Featuring 5G, three strong cameras, and the superfast Apple A14 Bionic processor, this is a top-of-the-line smartphone that wonât let you down. Itâs also a lot more robust than past iPhones, thanks to the brand new Ceramic Shield protection, which promises up to four timesâ the protection from drops â handy for butterfingered types.
A word of warning: unlike Android phones, the iPhone doesnât support storage expansion via microSD. We think 128GB is a decent amount of space, but if you think youâll need more in the future, then save yourself a world of pain and just pay $100 extra for 256GB or $300 more for the 512GB model now.Â
Buy the Apple iPhone 12 Pro on Amazon.
Apple iPhone SE â $399
Itâs surprising how much iPhone you can get for $399. Typically, âliteâ versions of smartphones have quite a lot missing, but Apple has managed to pack the same A13 processor into the iPhone SE as the one in its iPhone 11 Pro. Itâs very, very fast â still faster than most flagship Android phones in benchmarks, actually.
Same caveat as before: 64GB is very little storage, so youâre best off paying $449 for the 128GB version if you can stretch a little further.Â
Buy the Apple iPhone SE on Amazon.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra â $1050
The best Android phone on the market is packed absolutely full of features, with the best screen you can get and a superfast Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor pushing incredible performance.Â
The triple camera array enables you to take incredibly high quality photoss, but the real ace up this phoneâs sleeve is the bundled S Pen stylus. It docks neatly in the underside of the handset, and lets you doodle on that big, beautiful screen. Android phones donât get better than this.
Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra on Amazon.
Google Pixel 4a â $349
On the budget end of Android, you get impressive value from the $349 Google Pixel 4a. Not only do you benefit from Googleâs best-in-class camera processing for incredibly good shots, but you get a nice clean installation of Android â and early access to new versions as the company makes them, too.
Buy the Google Pixel 4a on Amazon.
Apple Watch Series 6 â $330
If you have an iPhone, then the Apple Watch is a no brainer as a smartwatch to go with it. And the latest version is better than ever with a nice, bright always-on display and the ability to measure your blood oxygen levels. Thatâs quite a nice extra, given lower SPO2 levels are a possibly early indicator of a Covid infectionâŚ
Buy the Apple Watch Series 6 on Amazon.
Fitbit Versa 3 â $200
For Android users, the Fitbit Versa 3 is a fabulous smartwatch. The Versa 3 builds on its excellent predecessors by including built-in GPS for the first time, allowing you to head out for a run without dragging your phone along with you. On top of that, its fabulous screen and week-long battery life wonât let you down. The fact that it has Alexa built in is just a neat, added bonus.
Buy the Fitbit Versa 3 on Amazon.
Streaming
Elgato HD60 S+ Capture Card â $214
If youâre a streamer who games on a console or gaming PC, youâll need a capture card to send the footage to your streaming PC. The Elgato HD60 S+ is the gold standard of external game capture cards (unless you need the $399 4K model, of course), providing smooth, low latency 1080p 60 fps gameplay with HDR for your editing pleasure. Sure, itâs pricy, but your Twitch fans deserve the best, right?
Buy the Elgato HD60 S+ Capture Card on Amazon.
Logitech StreamCam â $170
And if youâre streaming your games, youâll likely find your average webcam wonât quite cut it, either. Fortunately, the Logitech StreamCam is a solution aimed squarely at streamers, with plenty of features thatâll come in handy when mid broadcast. Its smart auto-focus and exposure mean you wonât need to constantly adjust things, and this webcam is also ideal for those who want to maintain a solid 60 frames per second for their HD footage.
Buy the Logitech StreamCam on Amazon.
Lifestyle
Nest Audio â $100
Googleâs smart speaker is back and better than ever. Weâve given this the nod ahead of Amazonâs excellent Echo partly because of a slight sound quality advantage, but also because Google Assistant still has the edge when it comes to AI smarts. But if youâre in an all Amazon household, then the new Echo is also pretty damned good for $70, too.
Buy the Nest Audio on Amazon.
Nanoleaf Rhythm Edition â $200
Turn your wall into a canvas for light-based art with the Nanoleaf Rhythm Edition. Nine triangular LED panels click together into whatever pattern you like and then come alive in 16.7 million colors to the rhythm of your music for a spellbinding light show. Need more panels for your grand design to work? Extras are available in packs of threeâŚ
Buy the Nanoleaf Rhythm Edition on Amazon.
Tile Pro â $32
How many times have you misplaced your keys this year? If the answer is âmore than zero,â then do yourself a favor and buy a Tile Pro right now. If you lose something with a Tile attached, just log into the app and the Tile will play a catchy jingle until you find it. If you still have no luck, then mark the item as lost and the worldwide Tile community will begin anonymously searching on your behalf â as soon as a user passes them, the coordinates will be sent your way, so you can pick up the search yourself.Â
Buy the Tile Pro on Amazon.
Ember Bluetooth Mug â $100
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Yes, even something as simple as a cup of coffee can be enhanced by technology. Ember is a Bluetooth mug which connects to an app, keeping your drink at the ideal temperature from the first sip to the last. Cleverly, it charges wirelessly when sat on the included plate, so you donât need to endure the embarrassment of asking where your mugâs USB lead has gone.
Buy the Ember Bluetooth Mug on Amazon.

Apple Unveils New Series 6 Watch, iPad, Fitness+ Subscription Service & More
Source: Apple / Apple Watch Series 6
No, we didnât get to see the long-rumored iPhone 12, BUT Apple did have plenty of announcements when it comes to its wearable the Apple Watch, the iPad, and subscription services.
Apple Watch Series 6 & Apple Watch SE
Source: Apple / Apple Watch Series 6
To make up for the absence of the iPhone 12, Tim Cook and Apple spent plenty of time beaming about the Apple Watch. The latest model, the Apple Series 6, was first introduced and it was described as the âmost colorful lineupâ of its popular smartwatch, and it comes chock full of new advancements with health-focused monitor features. We already knew about the handwashing feature coming to the Apple Watch, but today we now know that there will be a blood oxygen monitoring feature as well. As described during the presenting, the watch uses infrared sensors that scan the color of your blood and will provide you with a reader in 15 seconds.
A feature Samsungâs Galaxy Watch3 already has.
The Series 6 will also feature updates to Appleâs heart-monitoring technology and a sleep app that will better track your sleeping patterns. There will also be a new watch face interface that makes it easier to track your elevation in real-time that will also assist in monitor oxygen levels while working out.
Under the hood of the Series 6 is a new dual-core processor based on A13 Bionic in iPhone 11, plus an upgraded S6 SiP that Apple says will help the watch and apps run 20 percent faster while still maintaining the all-day 18-hour battery life. The watch face has been given a few tweaks like the new Memoji display, GMT Time Zone display, and other customizable features that cater to photographers, surfers, doctors, and creatives.
There will also be new band options for the Apple Watch Series 6 as well as color options. Pre-orders for the watch begin today. It will retail for $399 and will be available Friday (Sept.18).
Source: Apple / Apple Watch SE
Also announced was a budget model, the Apple Watch SE ($279), which the company believes will be the perfect wearable to bring in new customers. It features the now discontinued Series 5 chip and is much faster than the Series 3 Apple Watch, which saw itâs price gets chopped down to $199 but will run the latest version of Watch OS. Sadly the Blood Oxygen monitoring feature will not be available on the Apple Watch SE.
iPad 8th Generation & iPad Air
Source: Apple / iPad 8th Generation
The base-level iPad is getting a much-need refresh. With the unveiling of the 8th Generation iPad, users can look forward to a better camera, an all-day battery, the upgraded A12 Bionic Chip, and, of course, Apple Pencil support. The iPad 8th Generation will cost $329, $299, if youâre eligible for the education price.
Source: Apple / iPad Air
It was the new iPad Air that got all of the attention. The revamped iPad Air features a complete redesign sporting a 10.9-inch display, new 12MP rear camera, and next-generation Touch ID sensor. It FINALLY will have a USB-C port and comes in five color options, rose gold, green, blue, grey, and silver. As far as performance, it will work 40% faster than the previous model and features a 2x jump in graphics. The new iPad Air will cost $599 and should be available sometime in October.
When you finally get your hands on one, the new OS14 brings new enhancements to the  Apple Pencil technology. The iPad will now recognize shapes and differentiate your notes from your doodles, thanks to a new feature called Apple Scribble. You will also be able to copy and paste your notes to text boxes.
Apple One, Fitness+ & iOS14
Source: Apple / Apple One
Apple has finally found a way to put all of its subscription services under one umbrella. The company that jobs built introduced Apple One. The new three-tiered monthly subscription service includes Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and some much needed iCloud Storage space for your photos. You can opt for the individual $14.95 or if you want to put your parents, siblings, or the wife and kids, consider the $19.95 family plan.
Of course, there is a premium tier for $29.95 a month, and it features all the services mentioned above, including Apple News+ and Appleâs answer to Pelaton, Fitness+.
Source: Apple / Apple Fitness+
Oh, and before they closed out the show, Tim Cook did announce iOS14 will finally roll out worldwide on Wednesday (Sept.16). We just hope it doesnât brick our phones.

Infinix Zero 8 Review â The Devil is in the Details
Infinix Zero 8 DEALS
Jumia
ksh28999 VIEW
Itâs obvious to those that read my reviews that Iâm not a fan of either Infinix or Tecno. But with the Infinix Zero 8, it seems that they have realised that 2020 is the year of the Camera phone.
Just in case you think I hate Infinix phones, here is a sample of what people say about them.
What people say about infinix phones
https://bit.ly/336ryKJ
Of course you canât ignore the fact that Kenyans spend their time complaining on Facebook. Neither can you ignore the fact that one should be changing their Smartphone every 3 years and not wait until it dies.
Thatâs one of the reasons I got interested in the new Infinix Zero 8. Itâs a competitor to the new Tecno 16 Premier. Hopefully, this review shall make it easier to make an informed choice.

Our Verdict
Things to Consider Before Buying A Mid Range Phone in Kenya
For most manufacturers, mid-range phones are their bread and butter. They have better specs than than cheap smartphones but at the same time keep costs lower. Some of the things you should consider before you buy one include:
The Processor Type â A better processor means a better performing phone for you.
RAM â You are likely to stay with a mid-range phone for some time. A minimum of 4GB RAM is what I would suggest. Unless, you want to spend your weekends cleaning old files.
Battery Size â A good mid-range phone should have the battery capacity you need to do your work. In 2020, Iâd suggest you take a look at phones with quick charging features.
The Price â Price matters and at between 25k to 35k you should get a durable phone that you will take pride in.
Brand â Yes, the brand matters. Android update frequency, user interface and brand value does matter in mid-range phones.
Choose wisely as one of the main reasons you buy a mid-range phone is longevity. It is not fun buying a ksh. 25k phone that breaks after a year. Trust me, Iâve been there and itâs not fun.
Which brings us to the Infinix Zero 8
Itâs coming into an already crowded mid-range phone sector. We already have the Samsung M31, Huawei Y8p and my favorite Nokia 7.2. But I have to say, this a better offering than itâs predecessors.
Infinix Zero 8 Specifications
Display:Â 6.85 inches 1080 x 2460 pixels | CPU: Octa-core (2Ă2.05 GHz Cortex-A76 + 6Ă2.0 GHz | RAM: 8 GB | Storage / Expandable: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB / Yes | Rear camera: 64 MP (wide) + 8 MP (ultrawide) + 2 MP (macro) + 2 MP (depth | Front camera: 48 MP, f/2.2, (wide), 1/2.0âł, 0.8Âľm | Platform: Android 10 | Battery life: Li-Po 4500 mAh, non-removable

youtube
The Zero 8 comes with Android 10 but they have to include their custom XOS 7 skin. I donât mind an Android 10 but the XOS 7 skin can be annoying at times. The moment you turn on the phone, you get tens of notifications from apps that you will never use.
It will take you some time to set it up the way you wish to. Every app seems to come with itâs own permissions settings. If you forget to to turn them off, you end up with more notifications. This can be great for people who want to seem busy. But itâs a put off for those who are truly busy. In my view, those extra apps and permission settings need to go. Who knows what type of data I give access to the moment I turn it on.
Having said that, I do like the parental controls features on the phone. Itâs not easy controlling kids with access to phones. It allows you to setup strict gaming parameters.
It also has a clever background resource optimization scheme. This lets you select apps that you want and app that you donât want. Very handy when you need to control access to your apps.
The Infinix Zero 8 is based on a Mediatek MT6785 Helio G90T chipset. It performs very well compared to others such as Redmi Note 8 and even the Samsung A21s. That came as a surprise.
The performance of this chipset is truly a surprise. Of course you canât compare it to the higher end brands. However, if you need a phone with a smooth experience without the price tag, then itâs a good choice.
Display and Design
Though itâs plastic and I do hate plastic based phone, it does come with a unique design especially at the back. Itâs cameras have been setup in a diamond shape that looks kinda cool. But the plastic will make you keep a wiper handy. Smudges and fingerprints are part of owning the phone.
I still canât get my head around the plastic though. The camera bump requires proper placement on a surface or at least a larger than normal phone case.
Having said that, the phone feels study and easier to handle than previous Infinix phones which were the very definition of bulky. It is heavier on the lower side but thatâs OK seeing that it comes with better features at the price range.
It comes in different colors such as Silver Diamond, Black Diamond, and Green Diamond. Someone in the company was really stuck on the diamonds this time.
Battery Life and Performance
Inside, the 4500mAh large-capacity battery matches your pace through the day, and with its 33W SuperCharge speed, Zero 8âs battery recharges rapidly even when you only have 30 minutes to top up. #InfinixZERO8KE#VisionMaster pic.twitter.com/yzSR322Sei
â InfinixKenya (@InfinixKenya) September 7, 2020
Infinix has stuck to itâs original specs. They just love huge batteries. At 4500 mAh itâs not their biggest but will do very well for those who hate charging their phones. One extra cool thing is that it also has fast charging capabilities. For those who love big batteries, this is a great choice of phone.
According to GSM Arena, they werenât very impressed with the excessive battery size versus the phone perfromance
However, the flip side of the story is that the Zero 8 is clearly leaving unused battery life on the table and outright wasting it in its 90Hz mode. Thatâs not a stab at the 90Hz mode, directly, though. It does what it is supposed to do â manually fix the refresh rate at 90Hz regardless of what is currently on screen, like a video player, playing our 24ish fps sample video GSM Arena.
In other words, better battery life does not equate to better performance. My pet peeve with these huge phones with huge batteries.
The saving grace is the 33W charger that allows you to fully charge in about an hour 20 minutes. For people like me who charge phones when asleep or in the office, it isnât that great.
However, itâs a must have for those always on the go as it allows you to get to at least 50% charge in half an hour.
Camera and Video Capabilities
All their adverts are selling the camera capabilities. And unfortunately one is judged by their own words. You canât compare this to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra but the Zero 8 has made a major step towards creating quality phones.
The phone design is not a mistake. They wanted to show that they can compete with the big brands known for camera quality. But having tested the Samsung M and A series, the phone still has some ways to go.
The Infinix Zero 8 can capture video at up to 4K@30fps on its main camera. The video as you can see below is not that great.
But for vloggers in Kenya, the selfie camera mode is great. They have done a great job with the front camera with a lot of color and auto focus. Itâs great for a starter phone without those huge bills from the Samsung brands.

Infinix Zero 8 Price in Kenya
Launched on August 28th 2020, the current price of the Infinix Zero 8 in Kenya is about ksh. 28500 to 29000. This is one of their most expensive phones based on itâs new features.
You can check out our other other reviews of the latest smartphones in Kenya
What Comes with the Zero 8
I personally like the quick charger at 33w. But as usual Infinix goes further than other brands when it comes to accessories
Free Wireless Ear Bud
Free Bluetooth Speaker Black Diamond
Charger
Ear Phone
Manual
Alternatives to the Infinix Zero 8
As stated earlier, the mid-range smartphones market in Kenya is very competitive. Itâs harder for brands that are known for cheap phones try to compete in the sector. There are a few great alternatives to the phone not least being the Samsung Galaxy M and A series phones
Samsung Galaxy M31s
Itâs hard to fault the M31s. If you really do need that extra battery power, then the 6000 mAh in the Galaxy M31s should satisfy you. They are priced in the same range but the M31s is a superior option.
The only problem is that you can only find a Dubai version in Kenya which doesnât come with a warranty.
If warranties matter to you, then stick to the Zero 8
Tecno Camon 16 Premier
This was released just 2 days before the Zero 8. The phones are exactly the same in terms of specs. No wonder as they are both owned by the same Transission holdings company. If the brand name matters to you then you have a choice between the two phones.
Nokia 5.3
I am biased towards Nokia phones but this a review of the Zero 8 not a personal opinion. The Nokia 5.3 is just as good and in areas such as the camera build, 3x better. Itâs a study phone and comes at a lower price point. The only difference is the battery size at 4000 mAh.
But Iâm sure a difference of 15 minutes in battery life wonât deny you the pleasure of owning the better phone.
 Our Verdict
There is a huge improvement in the Infinix Zero 8 in Kenya over previous versions of their phones. But one canât escape that nagging feeling that thereâs always something left on the table by Infinix and Tecno phones.
Granted they serve a huge market for those who cannot afford higher priced phones. This would be a good phone for someone who doesnât care much about brand names and would prefer to have a smooth phones without gimmicks.
The Review
Infinix Zero 8
3.7 Score
The Infinix Zero 8 is surprisingly a great phone that performs as well as other higher priced models. Infinix seems to have upped their game with this new phone.
PROS
Good enough Camera
Great Videos at a Reasonable Price
CONS
It's an Infinix
Too much bloat in the XOS 7 Skin
Plastic Body

The Best Phones for Xbox Game Pass and xCloud (for Every Budget)
August 10, 2020 4:12 PM EST
With iPhones blocking Project xCloud from the App Store, what are the best phones in 2020 to take advantage of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with its xCloud game streaming will not be heading to the iOS app store, leaving many iPhone-carrying Xbox players out in the cold. According to Statista, in the US alone, over 45% of smartphone owners are using an iteration of Appleâs iPhone. At almost 50% market share, chances are that just about half of Xbox owners are likely using Appleâs best selling product. This means that a good portion of people picking up Xbox Series X, will not get to enjoy whatâs slated to be a tent-pole service for Xbox and their larger strategy moving forward as a company.
This latest spat between the Microsoft Xbox and Apple App Store policy is leaving Xbox players (who use iPhones) in a precarious position. Do they stay in Appleâs blue iMessage bubble? Or do they venture out to green(er?) Android pastures and enjoy Xbox Game Pass Ultimate streaming when it launches this fall?
If youâre currently an iPhone user whoâs thinking of making the switch to Android, weâre setting you up with what we think are the very best Android phones for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate regardless of your budget.

1. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G || Starting at $1,299.99
Xbox Game Pass Ultimateâs cloud gaming had its official coming-out party during Samsungâs Unpacked alongside the Note 20 Ultra 5G debut. This marketing move made it the default âgo-toâ device to usher in the new service. For those unfamiliar, Samsungâs Galaxy Note line is the tech giantâs yearly âeverything but the kitchen sinkâ device. With an annual fall release cadence, Samsungâs Note line historically enhances or iterates on most features from itâs âlittle brotherâ the âGalaxy Sâ while tossing in the largest displays, fastest processors available, largest batteries (usually), and even a stylus (because, why not?).
This year, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G features the Snapdragon 865+ processor, 12gb of ram, 128gb of storage (which is also expandable), both sub-6 and millimeter-wave 5G radios for all US carriers, a 4,500 mAh battery, and a 6.9âł AMOLED 2X display that supports dynamic 120hz refresh rates. It definitely leads the pack with its audacious price tag, but if weâre being honest, youâre probably not finding another Android phone that checks as many boxes as the Note 20 Ultra 5g.
2. Samsung Galaxy S 20 || Starting at $999.99

The Galaxy S line is Samsungâs annual iPhone competitor. Like the iPhone, Samsungâs Galaxy S is made in various sizes, configurations, and price points in hopes of its phones finding a home in as many pockets as possible. This yearâs phone, the âS 20â made a gamble on 5G by placing Qualcommâs pricier 5G radios in its entire line up. This move drove up the price of its entry model significantly. This price jump brought it up to a thousand bucks or right in line with Appleâs âProâ offering, and a whole $300 more than 2020âs best selling phone (globally) the iPhone 11.
Like itâs Note 20 big brother, the S 20 is no slouch on paper. It features a Snapdragon 865 processor, 12gb of ram, 128gb of storage, sub-6 5G, a 4,000 mAh battery, and a 6.2âł AMOLED display with support of 120hz at 1080p. Also, like the Note, itâs price tag will have most thinking twice before purchasing; however, with the device approaching the 6th-month mark since release, you can (usually) find reasonable offers and discounts from the various US carriers, especially if youâre switching.
3. OnePlus 8 5G || Starting at $699.99

OnePlus made a name for itself among Android enthusiasts who were looking for a no-frills and no-compromise experience, without having to shell out half of a mortgage payment to get one. In its early days, OnePlus was among the first OEMs to sell phones with AMOLED displays, coupled with the latest processors, running a bloatware-free version of Android, and keeping all of that below $400. Going the route of becoming the value smartphone champion created an army of raving OnePlus fans and Android faithfuls.
While the company has shown no signs of slowing down, sometimes going as far as releasing 2 flagship devices per year, its prices have almost caught up to the Apples and Samsungs of the world. Again, theyâre still the value player here. But unfortunately âvalueâ in the world of smartphones now floats around a little over half a grand. For that much green, what do you get? The OnePlus 8 5G features a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8gb of ram, sub-6 5G, a 4,300 mAh battery, and a 6.5âł AMOLED display with a 120hz refresh rate. You might have just experienced some dĂŠjĂ vu, reading about the S20 before this phone and thatâs a good thing considering the savings between the two.
4. Google Pixel 4a || Starting at $349.99

Android needed itâs own iPhone SE and Google delivered it with the Pixel 4a. Letâs be crystal clear here: like the SE, this phone is not going to win any arms race. But what it lacks in horsepower, it will deliver in overall user experience. And thatâs not just for this year and next â like most Android phones â but itâs a 3rd (and maybe/hopefully even a 4th) year as Google treats all of its Pixel phones to a minimum of 36 months of software support and updates. Itâs an unheard-of feat in the Android ecosystem that can make purchasers of even the most high-end Samsung phones jealous.
If you plan on using your phone for real-life things like photos of your pets and your food, then you should know that youâre also getting Googleâs (arguably) unmatched camera with all of the computational photography software tricks found in high-end Pixel phones. At $349 this phone might be a better buy than a dedicated point and shoot camera, thatâs how confident I am with Googleâs top-notch photography software. Luckily, Xbox Game Pass Ultimateâs magic mostly happens in the cloud, so while the Pixel 4a will not be the snappiest of the bunch on this list, it will still get the job done. So whatâs under the hood? The Pixel 4a features a Snapdragon 730 processor (sorry, no 5G here folks), 6gb of ram, 128gb of storage, and a 5.8âł display. Oh right, and again, itâs only $349.
There are many more Android phones to choose from but the list above is comprised of what we think are the very best phones at their given price points. If youâre already an Android user, you probably already had your mindset on your next phone before you clicked through to see our list. If youâre an iPhone user who was looking forward to Xbox Game Pass Ultimateâs game streaming you have another important decision to make before you even entertain this list of phones mentioned here.
Hereâs what it all boils down to: are you ready to venture away from iMessage, Facetime, (and maybe even the Apple watch youâre presently wearing) to enjoy some video games on the go? While to most â a phone, is a phone, is a phone â to others, thereâs serious âgreen bubbleâ shaming out there in the world and the FOMO of not having those Apple iPhone-only services like iMessage and Facetime can (unfortunately) be another burden altogether.
Project xCloud is officially being unveiled on September 15th, and anyone with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will have a front-row seat. If you havenât picked up a subscription already, you can grab it on Amazon to help support DualShockers.
