"Varadha Raja Mannar ka Salaar"
Do you guys remember when Radharama called Deva Varadha and Khansar's salaar? Salaar is not a common term to know, and it's a Persian word, not a Khansaari one. So Varadha was going around calling Deva his salaar on a daily basis. To everyone who would listen. To the extent that it became an official title.

deva: a weapon.
the movie does everything to show us that deva holds no agency over himself or his actions and that he has no ambition whatsoever.
his main trait is loyalty, and this is emphasized again and again.
• he is enraged at the mistreatment of aadhya, but where an actual 'hero' would save her, disregarding any rules or conditions – he remains bound by his mother's words.
Tumblr media
• he is a weapon in the hands of anybody he gives his loyalty to, and throughout the movie, all of his actions aren't really credited to him, but to the person he commits these acts for/with permission of:
1. in the first scene, we see both deva and varadha, without hesitation, understand that deva has to complete the task for varadha's honor
Tumblr media
2. it's evident, when bilal tells aadhya, that the only person who can keep her safe is 'amma' (because it is true, only deva's mother can allow deva to help)
Tumblr media
3. when we are first introduced to deva, it is through his mother describing him as a "blood-shedding weapon"
Tumblr media
4. when varadha comes to ask deva to accompany him, the narration doesn't feel accurate. varadha has barely voiced his request for deva to go with him – it is actually deva who wants to protect him after seeing his condition, but the narration is: "on one hand varadha had decided to take deva, no matter what, and on the other hand, his mother would not allow him to go" further emphasizing that deva is comparable to an object between the only two people who 'own' him
Tumblr media
5. in the first action sequence, after his mother releases him from the promise he made to her, we have this shot:
Tumblr media
framing deva's mother as if it is her who is responsible for that first blow
6. even after she has given him agency over himself, he still follows his mother's orders, not bothering to put any energy into what he thinks is the correct thing to do
Tumblr media
7. we also see this when radha rama blames varadha for vishnu's death and has to be reminded that – no. it was the new guy who dealt the blow.
Tumblr media
8. and again, when naarang heads in varadha's direction, completely disregarding deva and all of deva's attempts to provoke him, even though deva is the one who killed vishnu
Tumblr media
it's an interesting way of depicting his personality – the movie equates him to a weapon at every turn, either metaphorically or though dialogue
Tumblr media
which also makes it extremely significant, that the ONLY TIME deva has ever acted on his own (according to what we know) is when he: 1. went against his mother: to make a promise to varadha instead 2. did not follow varadha's explicit instructions: and pleaded with naarang to leave varadha alone
Tumblr media Tumblr media
deva only breaks free from the narrative for varadha – which really speaks about varadha's importance and the power that varadha holds over deva.

AITA for beheading a man who touched my best friend ?
my (35m) boy best friend (35m) is part of a royal family that is hidden away from the majority of society (it's like a tribe that with his father's influence isn't part of the indian constitution and they get silly like that)
(tldr: they are powerful and rich).
We broke up (as friends ofc) at a very young age but promised to see each other. he came back for me this year and we have continued our platonic (definitely) relationship while i worked as his body (ayyy) guard (ifykwim).
they kept walking over my baby boy in that place and there was no way i could let that slide but my sweet boy said no, so i controlled myself.
i did that untiiiiiiil there was pedophilia involved?? i ended up murdering this guy and apparently that was wrong and i shouldn't have, blah blah he's a r@pist idc. problem is i got my sweet boy into trouble.
so me and my bro's gang got put in jail and were presented in court. now here's where it got messyyyyy. so idk the father of the guy i killed got all angry (crazy cause that's over a p3do son) . and i told him to take it out on me but he did NOT listen. he put his hands on my man.
i warned him and he didn't listen so i ended up chopping of that arm and beheaded him. it's so silly and he had it coming.
i don't think it's that big of a deal but everyone and their mother's panties is twisted. my sweetheart told me im a girlboss and he's a gatekeep and e we could gaslight together but that i need to be "careful". he loves me so idrc.
but reddit, do you think i'm the asshole ??

love when south indian directors and actors make blatantly gay movies but still try to pass them off as “ macho macho straight as a rod ” like lmao the only thing straight in those movies is bae's dick dicking down their euphoric bae periodt
also looking at our latest queer addition : salaar — vardha is a fucking simp for deva and deva is straight up possessive devoted boyfriend that's obedient to his word like a guard dog is submissive but that won't matter if vardha is in trouble
both their priorities go like : vardha / deva >>>> amma / baachi >>> everything else
also prashanth neel i don't need to be in your walls because i kNOW they're gonna reunite / make up in the end one way or another — they love each other too much to ACTUALLY kill each other . the only way that can successfully happen is if they pull a hannigram and jump off a cliff together .
ALSO they were totally flirting in the rabid men final fight scene like vardha's face when deva said he had a lot of friends and that they were a lot more beautiful than him ??? the confusion , the anxiety , the offence taken in his eyes ?????????? just fucking kiss already trauma be damned y'all bonded for life
dusting off my blog @tuloblurbs to write some stuff bc i am inspired again so keep an eye out or send any requests if you've got any. also, check out @desipyar if you wanna rp aha ✨

Spoiler alert
Baahubali beheaded Sethu pathi because he tried to touch Devasena.
Deva beheaded Naarang because he tried to touch Varadha.
Now please enlighten me as to what hetero explanation is there for this scene.

This sequence really hurt me in the movie. It's just beautiful how Varadha could trust that one person, be vulnerable in front of him and him alone, without fear.

love (ˈləv) noun.
varadeva.
Deva is not your typical tortured protagonist.
Normally, characters that are acclimatized to violence have become that way because of circumstances throughout their life, or due to traumatic experiences.
but Deva?
Tumblr media
Deva was born with these tendencies. He wasn't molded by life into the violent being that he is now – he has always been that way. Violence was his first and most natural way of responding to any emotion that was too overwhelming for him.
• it must have been hard initially for Deva, growing up with no one to understand the way he worked intrinsically.
Deva, in his most natural state, is violence personified, but his mother isn't able to accept this aspect of his personality.
She detests it, in fact – and it's just gotten worse, especially now that she has witnessed in some way, the extent that Deva can go for varadha people things he feels strongly about.
Tumblr media
She refuses to watch him fight, and cannot bear to see him associated with violence in any way, shape, or form.
In short, she cannot accept him.
Tumblr media
While Deva's mom needs eyes on him at all times though,
Tumblr media
Varadha trusts him to do what is right.
Tumblr media
and this is Varadha's love for Deva:
this is what Varadha brings to the relationship; and it's so easy to overlook because it's something Varadha does so well.
He accepts Deva exactly the way he is.
and the fact that, throughout the movie, you never see a direct expression of Varada's love towards Deva, just proves that it never leaves in the first place – Varadha's love for Deva is persistent and unyielding.
Tumblr media
Varadha has embraced Deva's 'big emotions' since they were children, and the comfort this has fostered is so embedded within Deva that it's probably the only reason Deva can live with himself right now, especially with his mom convincing him he is a monster at every possible chance.
Deva's love for Varadha, on the other hand, is very obvious, because again: his emotions manifest very tangibly
Tumblr media
Deva knows what Varadha needs the most – he truly sees Varadha's insecurities and inherent complexity.
Tumblr media
Underneath Varadha's composure, restraint, and calm confidence, is a boy who is terrified of the future. of his father. for his brother.
Varadha sometimes says the opposite of what he feels in an effort to protect himself from vulnerability, but Deva has learnt to read him. Varadha doesn’t make his motives clear often, but Deva trusts him to reveal things in time. He never pressures Varadha for information, or questions him.
Tumblr media
• It even goes against every cell in Varadha's body to request protection and demand love, especially after the kind of treatment he's faced from those that should have been expected to show him love.
and Deva understands this, and is there to protect and love Varadha, without a second thought.
Tumblr media
It's a very mutual relationship, between two people who are there for each other exactly how the other needs them, and the fact that they never had to try to fit each other, just shows how much they're made for each other.
Tumblr media
— love, a definition: part three [part one / part two]
