i think when they assign you your job under the qun it should come with a cool tattoo. maybe some kind of symbol that explains what your role is at a glance to anyone who sees it. placed somewhere prominent on your body. i'm thinking lower back region. & it could be called a. qutie mark

i am often thinking about the saarebas & their complete lack of autonomy + contradictory position of both great honor & great stigma. and i am doing it in ways that are, shall we say, not always strictly wholesome

i'm perfectly comfortable with ignoring everything my Rook says about her backstory in-game in favor of doing what i want. unfortunately i've run into the wall of If she likes the Qun so much what the Fuck is she doing being a video game protagonist, much less a lord of fortune

realistically she has very complex feelings about her time as a saarebas including the part where (i'm thinking) she was freed by chance rather than leaving under her own power and of her own volition. but it amuses her more to mention only a small bit of her history in front of solas during one of their chats, wait for him to go off on a disdainful tirade on the inhumanity and barbarism of the qun and how no being should be shackled against their will for a crime that is no crime at all, then wait for him to catch his breath long enough to drop in an "i liked my arvaarad:) he used to braid my hair sometimes" & watch his head Explode

reworking the kost backstory = great opportunities to insert humor into her dynamic w solas i'm thinking

like they're all over the place in rivain having near-constant conversations abt how cool it is to engage healthily with spirits and how backward everyone is down south for how scared they get about mage possession. we have a quest following the life & death of an (ex-)qunari warden whose last heroic act involved him overcoming his fear of mages to defend one of them. we have a companion whose personal storyline is all about having a dual qunari and rivaini upbringing and what that means to them. but instead of explaining why kont-aar had a seer who was enough a part of the community for a visit to par vollen during the goddamn blessed age we have simply *checks notes* gotten rid of all the saarebas

experiencing one of those occasional fits of resentful anger i get abt veilguard giving me less than nothing abt seers & how they interact with the qun

wait actually ive decided this is bothering me For Real and not just for sillies. what the fuck is this. what the fuck do you mean kont-aar, a qunari settlement, that follows the qun, has a seer. like she isn't just a seer who lives there, her title is the seer of kont-aar. "led the settlement circa 8:41 Blessed". the mage, bro?? the settlement with at least a >50% qunari/viddathari saturation, bro??? that one??? and we're not gonna talk about it. we're not gonna talk about the explicit canonical cooperation/cultural synthesis here. saarebas are saar because they are considered to lack full control over themselves, and rivaini seers regularly let ghosts possess them. how did we get from there to here? what was the journey like?? has this caused any tension between par vollen and kont-aar?? why are we not talking about the obvious canonical religious schism within the qun

i'm not mad that there's a contradiction, i'm mad that there's a JUICY contradiction that has been simply left on the table unremarked upon!!! explain this to me i wanna sink my teeth into it!!!! this could be so GOOD!!!!!

...are seers not hedge mages? if kont-aar is a qunari settlement, why do they have one in a position of prominence? does the continental branch of the qun consider them to be an exception? if so, do we have further information on why and how that works? if we don't, does that mean i get to make it up?

i mean i suppose one way to answer the question "how does a rigorously planned society with an emphasis on tradition and a semi-hostile stance on magic slowly & steadily incorporate parts of surrounding cultures that might run in direct contrast to its stated values over the course of its history" is to implicitly deny every single part of that sentence,
