Love this. Everyone assumes that because you have a c-section, that you’re stuck having c-sections for every following birth. That is not the case. I did it. I did it after 2 c-sections. In the state of Arkansas, providers are very few and far between that are willing to allow a VBAC, especially a VBAmC (vaginal birth after multiple cesareans). But they are out there. Dr. Singleton was an incredible OB, and I knew from our very first appointment, things were going to be magical. And they were. Every single appointment, I was reassured that unless things were an emergency, I wouldn’t be forced into an unnecessary surgery. Even the week before Wesley was born, he told me that if he looked like he would weigh 10 pounds, we were not going to schedule a surgery. Monday, when I arrived at the hospital in full blown labor, my wishes were never questioned. No one mentioned surgery. Not even once. Everything went as perfectly as I could have ever hoped. Every nurse and the doctor that delivered Wesley (Dr. Singleton was not the on call OB) were so amazed by how fast and perfect everything went. Nothing makes you feel more like a bad ass than 1) doing something that a majority of people, including doctors, consider completely impossible, and 2) having the attending doctor to your birth tell you that she’s never seen anything go more perfectly. Mommas, especially mommas that have had a c-section, you are an advocate for yourself and your baby. You have options. Find a provider that works with you and your goals, not against you. Don’t be afraid to say no. Don’t be afraid to switch doctors because your current doctor doesn’t want to work with you. Don’t be afraid to speak up and speak out. #vbacwithoutfear #vba2c #vbacsuccess #birthwithoutfear

~~>>Sobre el dolor durante el parto<<~~. . Escuchar experiencias de parto de las mamás es escuchar relatos únicos. Algunas están de parto muchas horas, quizá días y otras apenas unas pocas horas. Unas refieren mucho dolor, otras no tanto. . Dynamic Doula Duo (another VBAC awareness moment) at See Baby Midwifery (SBM). On 06/07/18, Doula and patient, Erin Shell (left) with the loving support of her Doula Christina Pruitt, at 41 5/7 weeks EGA, had a VBAC Water 💦 Birth, of her largest baby, weighing 9'3"; all went well and was as wonderful as anything could be because "fear" was eliminated from her (& her family's) journey by the science based evidence, support from her Doula, and the SBM Midwives, Lynn, Ellen, and Kay (who actually attended the birth, Kay's 10th VBAC in the past 2 months😉). Fear is eliminated by the voice of reason, a mindful team, and the supportive Nursing staff at Atlanta Medical Center (AMC); btw AMC is the only hospital in GA (or perhaps the U.S.), that safely supports VBAC water 💦 birth by following ACOG guidelines with continuous telemetry monitoring in water). AMC remains at the forefront in providing safe, supportive and "informed" care (with respectful consent), which is why SBM provides support and "shared decision making" to our Moms and families there. This Dynamic Doula Duo is but another example of this, an empowering healthy process of which they wanted to share. Thank you, Erin & Christina for permitting us to share your story; a fun fact🌍💜🌍. VBACfacts has long been my go-to source for clear info on VBAC and C-section stats. I'm excited to share that today I finally completed (and earned 6.6 CE hours for!) Jen Kamel's course The Truth About VBAC for Professionals. It's taken me over a year to work through it, mostly because of already being mentally saturated with all of my EBB Instructor reading, but also because the course content is so rich. Jen covers VBAC from pretty much every angle. That she does it with such balance and logic is a tribute to her devotion to women having full access to true informed decision making. Birth pros, if you've been considering taking the training, do it. With a C-section rate of 1 in 3 in the USA, I don't think there's anyone who couldn't benefit from this information. #vbacfacts #vbacwithoutfear #cesareanbirth #continuingeducation #vbacdoula #nashvilledoula #icanbirth #evidencebasedbirth #cbac #hbac #VBAC

Not much longer until this boy is here! Everyone thinks I won’t make it to my due date, which is completely possible. We had a check up today and everything looks great! He’s measuring right where he needs to be, is head down, and I’m about 50% effaced. Braxton Hicks and hip pain are killing me. But it’s worth it. I’m also excited to say that my doctor has approved my for a VBAC, so I am so extremely excited. The doctor I am seeing has been phenomenal and has listened to my every concern throughout my pregnancy and is supporting me in all my decisions so I can have options when it comes to Wesley being born. A supportive care provider, a supportive family and team of friends, and a positive spirit have pushed me through and have been so important to me throughout my pregnancy. Mommas, I want you to know you have options. If a doctor isn’t willing to talk to you about options or things you would like, please consider finding a new provider. If you have questions about options that are available to you or things you would like to have information about, please don’t be afraid to ask. You are an advocate for yourself and your baby. #wesleyaaron #birthwithoutfear #vbacwithoutfear #babynumber3

Just a few more weeks! No major changes between last week and this week. Just hoping he hangs out a little longer so his daddy will be home. He still wiggles around and kicks me all the time. Wesley gets the hiccups frequently. Next week, I have an ultrasound to get an idea of how big he’s gotten, but the doctor isn’t worried about anything. As far as for me, I just need to keep walking and doing exercises to keep him going the direction he needs to be going, which is down. 😂 Next Friday marks how far along I was with Ellison when she was born, so we shall see how the next few weeks go. We’re in the home stretch. 💙 #wesleyaaron #babynumber3 #birthwithoutfear #vbacwithoutfear

Have you dilated yet? It's a common question before your due date, but it isn't a good one. Especially if you are planning a VBAC. It's not uncommon for a care provider (OB or Midwife) to require that your cervix is dilated a certain amount prior to labor, even as early as 39 weeks. However, this is not an evidence based practice and is a sure sign that your provider does not support you having a natural labor and vaginal birth. At the very least, they'll likely be pushing for a medically induced labor, and at worst, they may pressure you to have a scheduled cesarean. But the truth of the matter is that cervical dilation (prior to active labor) does not indicate when labor will begin, how long it will last, or how easy or difficult labor will be. It does not predict whether a VBAC will be successful or not. (Truly, you can progress from 0 cm to birth within a few hours or alternatively walk around at 4 cm dilated for weeks prior to labor beginning, even going well past your estimated due date in either scenario.) If you are hearing this conversation in your prenatal care, ask more questions about why, remember that you have the right to refuse, and consider switching your care to a provider who does not hold such unnecessary requirements. 📅 #evidencebasedpractice #vbac #redflags #vbacwithoutfear #evidencebasedbirth #pregnancy #mothertobe

I never know what people are going to say. This mama was both calm and powerful during her VBAC. Her husband was by her side the whole way. Her midwife and nurse were encouraging and up for anything (including getting on the floor to catch baby!). These are the births that I walk away from feeling like I didn't do much of anything. Yet whatever I did was what she needed most. We've added so much to the Doula bag over the years, but we really need to remember that the heart of it all is presence -- being by the birthing woman's side, on her side in every way. . .. ... .... ..... #hireadoula #birthisbeautiful #vbacsupport #vbacwithoutfear #vbac #vbacdoula #birth #nashvilledoula #cesareanbirth #birthpreparation #birthoptions #evidencebasedbirth

Someone decided to arrive today. It has been a long couple of days that ended with this sweet boy. I can’t believe he’s finally here. As a lot of you know, our goal was to avoid another c-section, and I’m happy to say we rocked out VBAC. Wesley came fast when he decided it was time, and I only had to push for 10 minutes. All of the nurses and the doctor were amazed at how well we did. It’s all about trusting your body and your mind. I have never felt so confident in myself as I do right now. Now it’s time for mommy and baby to rest and enjoy this time. We are thankful for everyone’s love and support. 💙💙💙 #wesleyaaron #vbacwithoutfear #birthwithoutfear #vbacsuccess (at Baptist Health Medical Center)
