BIOGRAPHY;
(death mention tw)
Dante has always been in charge of their own life, creating opportunity out of little to nothing, like their father, and using intelligence and wit to drive those around them further, like their mother. They grew up in the Netherlands, then moved to Spain after graduating in International Law, where they established themselves as an entrepreneur and business opportunist. They met their wife, with whom they had a son, and life seemed to be the best it could be. Till she died, and they were left to keep everything together. After months of struggling the sister of their wife came to help out, and for the sake of their son, the two married and moved to Vancouver five years ago, far away from the things that reminded them all of the woman who had meant so much to them.
PERSONALITY;
Dante has a charming and playful appearance, much like a puppy dog with far too much energy and excitement about everything that comes on their path. They get excited about a lot of things for no reason, and can easily throw themselves into anything that other people are passionate about. A passionate conversation can lead to Dante being passionate as well. There are plenty of things they are passionate about: language, music, the freedom of choosing one’s gender identity and finding the world getting more and more accepting of it, and dinosaurs (their son has also gotten into dinosaurs).

I hope there's an isabella shaped spot in your muse's life for her! I'd love to play out some y2k tropes! x

BIOGRAPHY
Trigger warnings: absent parents, bullying, mommy and daddy issues
1994
Isabella Rosa Ferreira was born in a hurry. Her impatience was born along with her. She was born two months too early. Far too eager for life was this little baby in the NICU. Her parents were beside themselves. They were so young and now they were dealing with a premature babe in Porto Alegre, Brazil in the nineties.
Her family had little income, but growing up she didn’t see it that way at all. She had the surface human essentials. Food in her belly, and a roof over her head. Her imagination had tried to fill in all the gaps. Though as much as she tried, her mind couldn’t create genuine love to come from her parents. Her father was constantly working and could only spare her some attention between coming home from work and arguing with her mother.
2008
Her mother, on the other hand was overbearing. She had given Isabella too much attention and criticized every single thing the little girl did. This criticism grew far worse after the family had immigrated to Canada for a better life. The pressure and judgement that Isabella received at home had handled her a gavel. She in turn had began to believe that she too could pass judgement on someone's life. Things just had to go her way when she wasn't home in order for her to survive. She was a certified mean girl in high school with a sharp tongue and a perfect scowl. But she worked so hard to be perfect and successful in everything she did. That way there wasn't anything anyone could pick on, especially her mother.
2022
It was her drive that had gotten her where she is today. Isabella is currently a co-owner of an inclusive boutique in downtown Vancouver. It's inclusive because every clothing item is made with every human in mind. The clothes are not only unisex but have sizes based on measurements and not by a superficial size.
friends
Isabella's mind is never turned off. She rants her ideas and screams her frustrations. She knows how to gain the spotlight and keep people engaged with her. But there are some people in her life that she could just be calmer and quiet with. They know who they are, because if she's ever quiet around you it's because she feels safe.
love
Bella had only ever been in love once and it was back in high school.
(wanted connection)
EXTRAS
character parallels: love quinn (you), brooke davis (one tree hill), blair waldorf (gossip girl)
wanted plantonic plots: frenemies or friends that act like a married couple wanted romantic plots: fake dating, unrequited love, highschool sweethearts
enemies: people she bullied in high school that are now out to get her

“If you aren’t charged up about doing something, if you don’t have what in Hindi we call the “Josh”, the fire in your belly for it, then don’t do it.”
Character Name: Rajveer Vohra
Faceclaim: Varun Dhawan
Age: 33
Gender Identification: Male
Preferred Pronouns: he/him/his
Residential Area: The Drive
Occupation: Cardiologist
Two Positive Traits: Honest, Empathetic
Two Negative Traits: Workaholic, Bossy
Length of Time in Vancouver: 27 years (on and off during college years)
Character Bio:
tw: death
Rajveer and his family moved to Canada when he was merely six years old. He still had vague memories of elderly family members sobbing as they hugged him and his older brother tight and told them “make us proud”. He was just a child then, but everything that Raj did from that point onward was done in the hopes that he would make his family proud. He was never the type to be told twice to do something. He worked hard to get good grades, doing his absolute best to be the model student and the model son to his parents. Rajveer liked to think he had a good head on his shoulders because of it. He became that much closer to achieving his dreams when he was admitted to Stanford. Rajveer spent his formative years at the university as both an undergrad and a medical student before returning to Vancouver where he would go on to become a full-fledged cardiologist.
It seemed like he was doing everything right, making his family proud just like he wished. It was late into the night when Raj got the frantic call from his mother that his father was complaining of a severe headache, his mother now remembering how her husband mentioned that things didn’t feel quite right in the days leading up to that night. All those years in medical school seemed to get jumbled up in his head as he tried to tell her to calm down and to take dad to the ER. However, it seemed it was a little too late as dad collapsed after taking only a few steps from the bed. An aneurysm. That was what the doctors had told them. He had just seen his father the week before and never once did he mention that something was wrong. Never once did Rajveer think that his father looked unwell.
It was at that point that Dr. Vohra went into overdrive, spending more time at the hospital and devoting more time to his patients than ever before. He didn’t want a similar thing to happen to one of his patients. He didn’t want them to think they were fine and well until one day they just collapsed on the floor of their bedroom like his father. If someone had noticed something, if another doctor had seen even an inkling of a sign then perhaps his dad would still be here. He wasn’t going to be that doctor, that person. He was going to keep making his parents -especially his father- proud.
Musings:
x - x - x - x - x
Wanted Connections:
Work Colleagues: People who might work at the hospital with him or in general other doctor/nurse friends that he can be chummy with.
Friends: He is a fierce friend— the kind to share lots of laughs and basically be there for you every step of the way.
Family Friend/Childhood Friend: Someone who’s known Rajveer for a long time and also is in touch with Raj’s family. This person would know about Raj’s father’s passing and the effect it had on the man.
Love Interest: Maybe an ex? Maybe a current crush? Something maybe not so serious, but fun? Let’s talk!

Character name: Rose Raleigh
Age: 30
Gender identification: Cis female
Preferred pronouns: She/Her
Residential area: Gastown
Occupation: Line Cook at Le Crocodile
Time in Vancouver: 1 year
TL;DR: originally from brooklyn, recently divorced, line cook at one of VC’s most expensive french restaurants, in her trainwreck and rock bottom era, enjoying the freedom of no longer giving a fuck
FULL BIO
tw: parental abandonment, cancer, infidelity
Rose Raleigh was the result of a quarter-life crisis.
Her mother, Alma, during a nervous breakdown of sorts, ran away from her husband and two children and landed herself in Brooklyn, New York while having what she described as “a nervous breakdown about her impending 30th birthday”. In a matter of weeks, after meeting him in the family diner where he worked, she was shacked up with Donny Raleigh in his apartment over the restaurant – named ‘Rosie’s Table’, a neighborhood staple. It wasn’t more than a month later that Alma was staring down two pink lines on a pregnancy test in Donny’s bathroom.
Her third child was on the way.
Fast forward to roughly eight months later, and Alma had had a change of heart about Donny along with her husband and kids back in Vancouver. Unceremonious would be the best way to describe her exit from the hospital after giving birth to her baby girl, jumping on the next flight out to reunite with her “real” family.
Donny didn’t think twice about what single-fatherhood would mean – the guy was all in. He raised Rose (named after his mother, the diner’s namesake), in the apartment above the diner. Rose grew up around the sizzle of the fryers and the smell of grilled onions; Sunday brunch regulars gossiping over endless coffee refills and hungover college students begging for a bacon egg and cheese even though they were a buck short. As soon as she was old enough to refill a ketchup bottle and roll silverware in a napkin, Rose was on the payroll.
She wanted connection desperately, and it was so easy for her to find in the kitchen. Rose loved the feeling of nourishing people, being a part of their daily routines and special events by proxy of the food that she made for them. She soaked up every foodie blog she could stumble across – Donny even sprung for the extended cable package so they would get more cooking channels. It wasn’t a shock to anyone when she set her sights on The Culinary Institute of America.
(Good thing Donny had been setting aside a portion of his tips since the day she was born.)
With a huge send off at a neighborhood block party, Rose waltzed out to TCIA…and quickly realized that she was in over her head. However, failing and disappointing everyone in the diner who believed in her was not an option. With dedication and stubborn will (and several unhealthy coping mechanisms), Rose came out the other side with her degree in hand and a world full of potential at her feet –
And ended up right back in the comfort of her father’s kitchen.
It was there that she met Greg, the son of a local plumber who was allergic to pickles (hence why she remembered his order). One date turned into two, two went on to twenty, twenty led to moving in together, which led to a wedding.
Two weeks after he walked her down the aisle, Donny was diagnosed with lung cancer.
For the two years nothing seemed different, aside from a cough and chemo (which still wasn’t enough to stop the guy from smoking). Then he needed to wheel oxygen around with him – that added two more years. And then things went downhill fast, and Donny was bedridden and in a hospital more often than not. Unable to handle the operations of the diner anymore, he signed ownership over to his daughter – but medical bills continued to pile up and additional treatment was needed, and then eventually in home hospice care.
Rose sold ‘Rosie’s Table’ to cover the expenses. And Donny died the next day.
The two weeks later, on the last day the diner was open, Rose ended up fucking a fightfighter over the prep counter after closing. Greg ended up seeing the security video.
Things went downhill fast.
Divorce papers signed a few short months later, Rose needed to get the fuck out of New York. Fuck that, she needed to leave the country.
She ended up in Vancouver, remembering her father saying that was where her mother lived. A year later, Rose is still too scared to reach out.
Instead, she pours herself into her position as a line cook at one of Vancity’s more expensive French restaurants – smoking out back like a fiend, doing a line or two mid shift, and wondering how the hell she got here.
PERSONALITY
Two positive traits: Driven and visionary
Two negative traits: Impulsive and sharp-tongued
FUN FACTS
never call her ‘rosie’
when left to her own devices, mostly eats microwavable meals or egg dishes (scrambled, fried, omelettes)
speaks spanish and french
very obvious new york accent when she’s working in the kitchen, or pissed off
doesn’t keep up on a lot of shows, except for depression binges of real housewives
starting to playfully dabble in illegal substances
has a talent for wine pairings with fancy food yet keeps franzia in a box at home
CONNECTIONS

❝ mismatched furniture, a stack of unsent letters held together with fraying string, worn photographs tucked into the pillowcase, sentimental jewelry and thrifted sweaters two sizes too big; hard conversations whilst hiding in an unfilled tub, chugging another sip just to speak, home isn’t a house it’s where your heart is, facing down ghosts and demons no matter how bleak the outcome might seem; anxious smiles, haunted eyes, cuticles torn from too much fretting, a heart that aches with too much want and longing, goodbyes she’ll forever be regretting; a lonely violin sat untouched in the corner, clipping coupons and counting change, disheveled hair, the bright surprise of an unexpected laugh, learning how to separate self from shame.

family.
MOTHER: Ela Adem
FATHER: Yusef Adem
SIBLINGS: Two, ages and gender tbd
CHILDREN: Selvi Aileen Sullivan, age 17.
OTHER: Lila Durmaz, cousin.
tldr.
nesrin is the eldest of three children.
she grew up in a very strict, traditional/conservative household of which her father asserted his will as the head of household constantly.
through him and the values he reinforced, nes grew up with a deep understanding of duty, obedience, and honoring her family name. she came home well before curfew (most of the time), maintained her position on the dean’s list, and served as a role model for her younger siblings.
TW: TEEN PREGNANCY because of this, it perhaps came as a quite a shock that, when she was seventeen, nes discovered she was pregnant.
she’d been dating matt sullivan for several years at that point and, although she was absolutely in love and wanted a future with him eventually, that day wasn’t meant to be so soon.
TW: ABORTION while matt wanted to keep their baby, nes wasn’t so keen and her plans to terminate ultimately brought their relationship to an immediate end.
nes left town for what was only meant to be a brief "college tour” as far as her parents were concerned but, in reality, she’d left to seek out a discreet clinic several counties over. it was at that point, sitting out in the parking lot far past her scheduled appointment, that she realized she couldn’t give up her baby.
TW: ESTRANGEMENT/ABANDONMENT the call with her dad did not go well. at all. he accused nesrin of shaming herself, their family, etc. by not only having premarital sex but by falling pregnant while she was at it. in very harsh, no uncertain terms he left her with a choice: do what needed to be done to hide her “incident” and spare the family, or be outcasted indefinitely.
and for many, many years that was the last time nes ever spoke to her parents. she still kept in close touch with her siblings but, believing she’d lost everything back in vancouver, she emancipated herself and quietly moved to a small nowhere town, finding whatever way to survive on her own.
life wasn’t pretty or glamourous or kind to nesrin but she made it work. she held several jobs to make ends meet. eventually she managed to study and sit for her GED.
now, their daughter is 17 and preparing to soon go off and make her own way in the world. nes is just trying to navigate life back in vancouver while co-parenting and co-existing with the first and only love she never really let go of.
although it’s a far cry from her lifelong dreams, she’s working as an administrative assistant at sofia and theo’s practice. the job is stable, even if the pay leaves something to be desired, and gives her the ability to make ends meet while still having time leftover to spend with selvi.

They’ve been described as COMPASSIONATE, IMPULSIVE, PATIENT, AND ADAPTABLE by the people that know them. This is her story.
born in a suburb of stockholm, sweden, sofia’s family moved to vancouver when she was 3 years old because of her father’s work
was a really great student, very friendly and had a charm about her that let her make friends easily
married really young, just out of high school, at age 19 to an artist but he never made any money or really tried to showcase his work. it caused many problems and lots of fights because it left her stuck paying all the bills while going to uni and working
sometimes she’d have to fight her embarrassment and pack up her pride and ask her parents for money to cover bills when she couldn’t stretch what she was making that far
just 2 years into the struggling marriage sofia and her husband had a son together (who is now 10) and as happy as she was to be a mom, it only made things more difficult when it came to everything resting on her
when she finally earned her doctorate sofia opened up her own practice and began building up a client base
also she tried to ignore the growing problems at home but eventually work and her crappy marriage began to take their toll on sofia so she began to medicate
hides her slight drinking issue and has picked up a smoking habit since she feels it relaxes her
recently her husband’s career began to take off, right around the time he began having an affair with a curator and started to make a little money off his art work
after supporting him for 10 years he filed for divorce and sofia feels pretty bitter about it
they just signed on the dotted line recently and she’s taken a bit of a sabbatical from everything, can find her taking ceramics/pottery classes, going on mini adventures... anything for a bit of an escape
full bio to come soon! (i legit can’t find where i saved and i am soooo frustrated)

˖♡ — BIOGRAPHY.
Malik was welcomed into this world on a beautiful afternoon in October at the city of New York in Tribeca. The second son of Omari and Angela Turman, back when the Turman Realty company was starting to pierce its mark not only in New York, but in the entire country. Although from the outside, people could perceive the luck of the three children that were born into this family, each one of them would offer a different perspective about it.
Controlling could easily be the middle name of both parents as they were so focused on their empire, that — somehow — they envisioned their children weren’t independent people, but infants that they were able to control from the very first breath they took once they were born until they were responsible adults.
They were all there watching Omari’s empire grow, hearing his father’s speeches that one day all of that would be passed to his children; sharing the importance of a good education and learning how to run the business, because he’d have to choose the person who would take his seat in the future. At first, Malik was too young to understand it all; but the first to crack was Malik’s oldest brother, although Malik was still entering adolescence his brother once turned eighteen years old, left their house as it was the only way to get rid of the control their parents had over him.
And then there were two, and with that the pressure that once was directed at the older brother, reached both Malik and his sister. And while his sister was okay with the plans their parents had for her, Malik was a dreamer.
Ever since he was a child, he dreamt about playing soccer, to become a great athlete. And when he was young, he was really good at it. His parents accepted the idea of enrolling him in soccer classes because it was important to have a place to direct all the energy a child has, but as he was growing older the support was no longer there and getting in different teams caused Malik to notice that he wasn’t the very best as he assumed to be. And at home, instead of hearing that he could become better, he’d listen that it was pointless to attempt to follow that dream. The Turman’s weren’t meant to be athletes, you’re meant to get rich behind a table.
And, although, he couldn’t accept it at first. Those words resonated well enough that Malik gave up on pursuing that desire and with that he enrolled in college, got his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree letting his parents know that while he wouldn’t be a soccer player, he’d still work in that field. That the company could be his sister’s, because he’d do what he could to become a sports agent and to be actually great at it. Surprisingly, they accepted the deal.
Or so he thought, subtle offers of a job position in their business, following along a narrative that it was simply easier to be part of the company instead of trying to pursue something and being a whole new career apart from the real estate agency. It all seemed better than the idea of facing challenges. His privileges, at least, caused him to assume so. And perhaps, that would’ve been his entire life, if someone else didn’t enter it for the sake of lightening up his path and his individuality.
Malik was tired, and it was what led him to Yaren as something more than friends. An agreement of a marriage in which both of them had something to gain from it, and after a beautiful ceremony he was no longer a handsome bachelor that all women wanted to pursue. As time passed by and months became years, his family understood that he wouldn’t divorce Yaren; that this wasn’t their middle son rebelling so late in life. And then, it was the end of his career as part of the family business and the beginning of the one he wanted to pursue: to become a sports agent. And for the first time in life, apart from siblings, he was able to have someone that was rooting for him and actually believing that he was capable of following part of his dreams. A different version of his dream, at least.
Truth being told at first, Malik didn’t see Yaren as anything but a friend, which led to a conversation that they could continue having relationships outside of their own. But it didn’t last long until jealousy started to play a part, as their relationship was no longer just a mere agreement with papers signed and feelings were there. Yet, the relationship remained open, with clauses that were respectful and pertinent to both parts. Malik is aware that he gained a partner for life and that, somehow, through the control of his parents, he found the love of his life.

DATE OF BIRTH: April 7th, 1997
ZODIAC SIGN: Aries
LEVEL OF EDUCATION: Working through an associates degree, undetermined
OCCUPATION: Bartender at City Brew Pub
HOMETOWN: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Character Biography (TW: teen pregnancy, forced adoption)
The Sunay's were a picture perfect family, their fortune derived from a hardworking ethic that they ensured their children would not only be appreciative of, but have themselves. Her brother and her were pushed to appreciate every moment of ease in their life, and encouraged to see the beginning and end of every hardship. After all, the most important thing in the end was family. At least, that’s what Melina thought. At sixteen years old, there was a rebel side to her that awoke but only as a means of being a person outside of the unit her family loved to function under. She found independence, but also clung to her friends where she could. She was the life of the party, but she needed those close to her in order to make sure she didn’t burn out. One of those people was a boy she had started to get close to, but maybe a little too close when she was left one day, hung over a pregnancy test in her bathroom.
When she told her parents, she was met with scolding but eventually they comforted her. Little did Melina know that their solution they promised her wasn’t what she expected at all. Her bags were packed, and she was forced to leave Vancouver for nine months before her shirts stretched tightly over her stomach. The result was a little boy with eyes that mirrored hers that was plucked from her arms immediately before being put up for adoption without her consent. After that, she was in town with a secret she’d never tell.
As soon as Melina was able to get out of her parent’s clutches, she took her chances and ran. She’d lived in Gastown ever since without a single dime to help her. Despite the heavy shift from Kitsilano to the very district everyone frowned upon, she’s looking to find her place where she can bounce back from mistakes rather than hide them. She found them with a certain man, someone who swept her off her feet, despite her past luck. She saw a future with him, until he broke her heart and left her to pick up the pieces by herself. Now, Melina knows all she can rely on is herself.
“There’s no more chasing rainbows and hoping for an end to them; their arches are illusions, solid at first glance. But then you try to touch them, there’s nothing to hold on to. Their colors used to lure you in and put you in a trance."

DIANA KNOWLES, 41 years old, strip club manager.
full name: diana marie knowles nicknames: di, ana, mama knowles dob: june 19ths, 1981 occupation: strip club manager residential area: gastown length of time in vancouver: 23 years click here for full statistics.
BACKSTORY.
Diana Knowles is born already scorned, fearless. Her mother gives birth, not by choice, six weeks early, causing her tiny bundle of wailing joy to enter the NICU until further notice. And the NICU is where Diana first fights. She fights to the better end, doing everything in her power to progress and make her way home to her mother and her mother alone. Her father is absent. Hell, her mother to this day has no idea who the father of her daughter might be. “Probably some random I slept with one evening, it doesn’t matter.” Is what her mother would say when Diana became curious. And she learned to be okay with that.
For as long as Diana could remember, her mother was always sick. She was always coughing into napkins, needing help with dinner, and whatever came along with that. Diana always helped, even if this took up much of her adolescence. And her upbringing remains this way. By some miracle, she’s able to squeeze in various extracurriculars. Dance, cheerleading, and soccer are the more prominent ones, the ones she loved the most. Her mother doesn’t leave the house, too afraid to due to her many ailments. But she insists that Diana recount all of her activities from school, still wanting to be a part of her daughter’s life and enjoyment regardless of anything. So, Diana gushes about her growing life, and her mother nods along.
High school goes by in a blink and before she knows it, Diana is off to college. She gets accepted into a college in Vancouver and she moves there to study to become a physical therapist. She had always been fascinated by the way the human body works, especially when it came to dancing. And her lifelong dream was to help those who needed it, to ensure that their bodies were working right.
Seven long years later and Diana is graduating, though her mother is not there to see her shine. She calls soon after though, happy to hear that her daughter was content and achieving something worthwhile in life. This is the first time Diana feels real sorrow, real loneliness. And she was exactly that within herself: sad and alone. With that, she attempts to make friends and does so successfully. She enters a practice to shadow some physical therapists and she makes friends through work. Up until she loses her passion for the profession and finds herself at a strange crossroads. Dance was still calling to her and she eventually follows the same route her mother went down, dancing in nightclubs. In an instant, Diana Knowles feels at home under neon lights. She takes up the stage name Miss Platinum and becomes a club favorite.
Eventually, Diana becomes the club manager and steps down from dancing. Her love for helping people eventually came back swinging and she began to deeply adore the process of hiring girls. The girls become like her children and she takes care of them, houses them, and more. So much so that everyone begins to call her Mama Knowles and nothing has ever filled her with so much pride.
Like most stories, tragedy strikes, and it does so in the most random of ways in Diana’s story. One evening while she was locking up the club, she was jumped by three men. They beat her up and stole her shoes, jewelry, watch, purse, and more. And when she got home, her house had been broken into. About three weeks prior, she reported a stalker that had been showing up at the club every single night. Diana didn’t really think anything of it until he approached her one night and wouldn’t leave her alone. She instantly knows this was the work of her stalker and called the police. The case is still ongoing and Diana has been living in fear ever since, knowing she will have to testify in court against the men who jumped her while her stalker is still unable to be found.
Diana being Diana, she keeps a stern stance and refuses to let anyone see her afraid. Or upset. She left the hospital after one evening, returning to work with a bruised cheek and cracked ribs. And that’s exactly how she’s always been. A fighter, even from the very beginning.

although her family is originally from turkey, nazli was born and raised in the marpole neighborhood in south vancouver. her home life was neither good nor bad, but always falling somewhere in the gray between.
her father left when she was six, heading off for better work except he never returned. despite the distance, her parents remained married on paper, and the longer he was gone the more her mother began to deteriorate.
that left naz to help her grandparents around the house and look after her siblings, but the one bright spark was her next door neighbor, jake.
(tw: death) what began as a solid friendship turned into young love, and the two of them were ultimately together for five years, going as far as to get engaged, before jake passed away in a climbing accident.
losing him broke naz, and she inevitably skipped town when it all got to be too much. she stayed away for several years, avoiding the friends and family and spots around town that reminded her of him, until three years ago when she was persuaded home.
now she works at the kirkland estate winery and vineyard as a manager in the tasting room, just passing the time while she tries to figure out how someone actually moves on with their life.

Occupation: Nurse / Home health aide
Two positive traits: Resilient, imaginative
Two negative traits: Escapist, hedonistic
Length of time in Vancouver: 8 years
Faceclaim: Ana de Armas
tw: adultery, medication, overdose, death
summary:
originally from just outside of madrid, spain, maya grew up with absentee parents who set a bad example for her. their relationship was toxic and emotionally abusive. her father had a lothario reputation and would open cheat on her mother — because of this maya has a very poor view on men.
her mother had some health and mental health issues that eventually led her to overdose on pain medication when maya was only 9 years old. since that night she has lived with guilt and ptsd from the loss.
much blame was placed on her father and because of that maya has not spoken to him since she was a teenager.
at 16/17 maya left spain and moved to new york where she worked many odd jobs, got accustomed to lying to get whatever she needed, and pushed her way through school. it was during this time her kleptomania habit began and it was mostly out of necessity, though as the thrill and reward built it became less of a means to survive and more of a compulsion/pleasure seeking.
aside from working at a hospital, maya also did home health by making house calls to clients in need of a nurse and this was where her kelpto habit really took off. she would steal small things from her clients/their homes, mostly medications, and sell them for money.
when she got in trouble for her antics maya moved west to vancouver where she found herself in the same line of work, doing the same things. only this time she’s much smarter when it comes to her thieving.

fellow new yorkers
frequents of affinity nightclub, the pour house, mecca bar and lounge, oz turkish coffee & bakery

**trigger warnings for death, birth complications, fostering and adoption trauma, drug abuse, addiction
In late July of 1994, Malachi Santos took his first breath in the back of a truck in downtown Vancouver. His mother, a seventeen-year-old runaway addicted to cocaine, had gotten a ride just the day before with a man in a Ford F-150 while hitchhiking west from Edmonton. They had just crossed within the city’s limits when Serena went into precipitous labor and managed to terrify the man driving the truck into agreeing when she shouted at him not to take her to the hospital, where they would be legally obligated to contact the foster parents she’d just escaped from — instead, he found a Walmart parking lot and folded down his back seats. An hour and a half in, however, he got spooked as Serena became less and less responsive in between contractions; Malachi was born five minutes before they reached the hospital, and Serena died from blood loss ten minutes after that as they were rushing her into the emergency room. Because of the drugs in her system and the premature birth, Mal had to be kept at the hospital for a couple weeks, and after being determined unfit to continue fostering, he wasn’t returned to the couple his mom had run away from.
Mal spent the next tumultuous half a decade in Vancouver’s foster system until finally getting adopted by Frank and Linda Holmes — two vibrant actors with a love for giving back to the community and another adopted son they’d already had for five years. They had gone into the adoption process for the second time with the idea of making the next one a girl, but neither could resist the challenge Mal presented when they met him and were given warnings by the adoption agency that he was a difficult child. So Malachi Santos became Malachi Holmes, and for many children, it would have been the proverbial jackpot: the Holmes family was warm and welcoming and decently wealthy to boot, but even at five years old Mal didn’t feel like he fit into it. One of the most difficult parts for him — though he never really understood why, especially when he was younger — was that this wasn’t a foster home this time but an adoptive family, and one that seemed determined to make him feel like he’d been cast in a weird sitcom every time they dressed up for Renaissance faires or as Mr. and Mrs. Clause for Christmas.
On paper they were good parents was the thing, and Dec was a good brother, it was just that by the time he hit eleven or twelve, the imposter syndrome coloring his entire home life solidified into its own identity; he felt like the black sheep not only in his home dynamic but in a much grander, cosmic sense that, in his mind, put him on one side of the proverbial fence and everybody else on the other. He was not unfriendly in school so much as deeply introverted and on some level uninterested in other people, except for two friends he made in sixth grade and stayed friends with through high school.
He’s the kind of person who has plenty of friends he chills with but those two are his homies and he’s crazy hard to get close to because he’s not interested in expanding that circle. He really doesn’t have a lot of ambition and has no grand plans with his music, in spite of knowing somewhere deep down he might actually like to. He started playing around with mixing in high school and still does that and uploads his stuff to SoundCloud and everything, he’s got a great ear for music and really enjoys doing it, but the idea of making a career out of it freaks him out pretty badly. Besides that, he works at a local pizza joint where he’s close with the family who owns it, and he’s happy (or, at least, satisfied) doing that as long as it makes ends meet.
