One funny thing that happened during my E.R trip last weekend was when the triage nurse was suffering the perpetual struggle of getting any use out of my depleted veins, I made small talk out of the fact that during my brain surgery ten months ago they stuck me with a needle nineteen times before they could place an IV while prepping me, that I was fine during it all but @thetabirb passed out from watching, and then I woke up afterwards with a new one in my foot because while I was under they needed to place another one urgently and that was an untapped source. And the nurse got a funny look on his face and he remained polite enough, but it was obvious that he was merely indulging me with his "uh-huh"s as he futily dug in there with a needle, but after he excused himself to find the ultrasound machine he must have looked at my chart because I heard him thru the door he left open to the E.R go "Oh wow! [Wrong pronoun] really did have brain surgery!" And then he came back somewhat more contrite but also obviously more receptive to what I was saying

@brightnessrandom said: Hey! I want you to know that I love you a lot and hope you start feeling better soon! As a trained microbiologist, I can say that bacteria do not belong in your blood. I hope the infection clears up soon! Keep taking those antibiotics. I've missed seeing you around on my dash, and while Blood Machine Broke is never my go-to solution, I'm grateful you were able to figure out what was going on and get it treated! Get well soon, alright?
Thanks, I’m already much better! The infection is thankfully not in my blood, and it’s something that would’ve been totally harmless if it weren’t for the fact that I was in a full ER for 36 hours with very little blood and No Attending Immune System.
Here’s another good story from the ER: My sister drove me there and stayed with me until my mom could arrive, and in that time they were having a hard time putting in the second IV in my dominant arm, which is a veinless disaster. So the nurse got the ultrasound machine to find them and explained the procedure for it, and when my sister expressed a further interest, he did so.
Putting the ultrasound wand on my arm, he located my secret, hidden veins, and explained, “Now, you see that grayish, moving blob? Well—“
And with absolutely no sense of restraint but a perfect sense of timing, I said, deadpan, “—That’s the baby.”
The poor guy laughed hard enough that he had to find the vein again, and I’m sure he actually did end up explaining the rest of the process, but I didn’t actually catch it bc my hidden veins are a cursed treasure that we never should’ve unearthed, for they brought destruction upon their host for the hubris involved in trying to utilize their potential.
(Also I can’t remember if I did this, but if I didn’t: Congratulations on your everything! You worked really hard for it and I’m proud of you!)
