One Of The Most Beautiful Sailing Yachts In The World, Beautiful Old Lady JK7 VELSHEDA.

VELSHEDA is a 39,4m J-Class Yacht. She was originally designed by Charles Nicholson and built by Camper & Nicholson in 1933 for Mr W.L. Stephenson, Owner of Woolworth chain of shops, she was built in 1933 at Gosport. She was Nicholson's second design for a J-Class and Stephenson's second big yacht. Velsheda was named after Stephenson's three daughters, Velma, Sheila and Daphne. Velsheda raced with the greatest names in classic yachting including Britannia, Endeavour and Shamrock between 1933 and 1936

Juste derrière c’est  Lionheart , un plan inspiré des lignes du modèle nommé 77F ayant servi à la conception de Ranger, commandé à l’époque par Harold Stirling Vanderbild.

La Classe J a servi à définir les grands voiliers de course construits entre 1930 et 1937. Il en existe à ce jour encore 3 : Shamrock V, Velsheda et Endeavour. Lionheart fait parti des Classe J récents avec Ranger en 2003, Hanuman en 2009, Atlantis et Rainbow plus récemment.

#DidYouKnow - Historically, all US J Class yachts took the sail numbers such as J5 and J8. The UK boats took JK4 (K denoting the UK), JK3 and JK6. Lionheart, recently built by a Dutch owner, choose JH1. But Svea having originally been designed by a Swede back in 1937, already had the sail number JS1. So the 6 J Class yachts that will be competing at the World Championship later this month are - JK7 Velsheda, J5 Ranger, JK6 Hanuman, JH1 Lionheart, J8 Topaz and JS1 Svea…
