kuro isn’t a bottom!! kuro is a top!!!! look at her interactions with literally every other person the top just LEAPS out of her ok she has aiai’s jock/chad energy!!! i said this on twitter but kuro breaks at least one girl’s heart every time she summer holidays in paris!! kuro’s too classy to kiss and tell but u know what? no one’s ever been brave enough to kiss miss tendou maya. meanwhile kuro could have her choice of makeout partners literally any time okay?? if someone’s gonna be flustered in their first kiss its gonna be tendou “i’ve been touch deprived my whole life and i’m only just realising it” maya!!

“but velt maya would always top in bed” no. no, my good fellows. you’ve got a fundamental issue mistaken. here’s my piping hot take: both of them are tops, but only maya is a dom. and that’s where everyone’s getting this “maya will always top” stuff from when really starlight just has an over-saturation of tops so everyone’s blinded by the biggest dom. anyway maya will always always let kuro have a turn topping because she loves and respects kuro including her chad energy

as soon as you divorce them from the competitive setting of the stage kuro’s overwhelming capability pops out ok she’s out there taking kaoruko shopping, being futaba’s new tap dance dad, throwing winks left and right, center of every intrigue, part of every social circle in seisho academy. she can actually make small talk with her crush like a normal person - “you really like potatoes, huh” “you really like crab, huh...” meanwhile tendou maya sits in her room alone, because she doesn’t know how to socialise and also karen started telling a ghost story,  watching the old romcoms kuro used to have support roles in, occasionally bursting out with rrromantic and dramatic lines but they’re also completely inappropriate for the mood so kuro just sighs heavily, massages her forehead, and wonders how long it’ll take to re-educate maya in the finer, less theatrical points of romance

like don’t get me wrong. maya feels no shame and kuro never wants to change that. but also sometimes if you ask your gf “i’m ordering takeout what do you want” and she responds with total sincerity “you are the only sustenance my soul needs, the only fuel for my flame” it’s maybe 10% heartwarming and 90% annoying like save the speeches and just tell me what you want for dinner

lest we forget kuro was the one who did This with a blank face carved from stone, getting right up in her personal space without a moment’s hesitation, making maya’s brain short-circuit for at least five seconds solid

anyway. if i see one more tsundere kuro im going to pee your pants

why do you ship mayakuro?

tbh im much more of a jun7 person as my wips can attest to!! but mayakuro is also very good. they have a delicious aura... a nutritious bubble... a shine, if u will. 

kuro is such an absolute ladykiller, this suave dashing ho, but when she comes face to face with maya she Packs It Up. stone-cold immovable competitive glarer. i will admit that there is a huge difference between stage!kuro and anime!kuro, but i vastly prefer anime!kuro and her single-minded determination to beat maya. she doesn’t get flustered by maya’s comments, she gives as good as she gets - even when she’s a crying mess in episode 10 she pulls herself together and meets maya’s ridiculous wave of affection head on (”you infuriating woman”).

also i can’t believe kuro’s a super smart STEM girl too, i bet she’d outshine maya in that area easily - she just doesn’t want to! that’s just not the field she wants to battle maya on. honestly i think kuro could help junna a lot with the whole “what my studying talents orient me towards vs what i actually want to do” thing - well, junna’s got it pretty well sorted, but i think kuro offering her perspective would help soothe junna’s mind about it too.

honestly i think a lot about kuro’s super quiet “good morning” in episode three. it’s so telling that she’ll waltz in, putting up a brave front after having had her confidence completely destroyed in the revue - but instead of lashing out at maya or breaking down, all she says is that curt greeting. 

maya on the other hand... mhmhm i’m a sucker for 1) competent girls, 2) girls lonely and isolated because of their talent/position, and 3) girls who Know they’re competent but don’t brag. because really, maya doesn’t brag! stage!maya does sing of herself as a thoroughbred, but anime!maya is generally quiet - she says she gets jealous easily, and that’s about it; she never rubs it in anyone’s face that she’s the top star.

in fact one of my favourite things about maya is that, unless she doesn’t have a choice (ie in the revue system), she never steps on anyone to climb higher. she encourages everyone around her to do their best - the things she says to kaoruko, when she confronted nana for slacking; she wants to be top star, but she wants it entirely through her own effort. she admires kuro’s own effort, and 

(and wouldn’t it be interesting if maya saw herself as a kuro waiting to happen? a person at the top always knows that there is, hot on your heels, someone about to topple you. it’s impossible not to imagine how that would happen. maya only hopes that she would have the same tenacity, resilience, and grace as kuro had in picking herself back up.)

as long as maya and kuro are playing within the rules of takarazuka, i can accept claudine being """second best""" to maya's otokoyaku without it crushing her drive because. well. it IS the best position available for her!if she's with maya, then kuro will never have to undergo the self-sacrificial shit that some musumeyaku's have to - she will never have to repress her shine, never need to try to limit herself to avoid outshining maya. maya will never be a limit to her growth. kuro's the only one that can keep up with maya - but maya's also the only one that can keep up with kuro. 

and maya is never, ever going to accept a replacement for kuro. could u imagine someone trying to cast a non-kuro as her partner? first of all, maya would walk lmao and second of all, it just. wouldn't work. anyone else would look flavourless as white bread next to Tendou Maya. insofar as takarazuka assigns actresses the musumeyaku role and never lets them back out of it, kuro's gotten the best deal possible - she's paired with the best otokoyaku. as long as maya shines, so will kuro, and u know damn well maya's gonna shine a long time.

now outside the takarazuka framework, though. outside the necessary "only one can be Best and Best is also the male role paradigm". i'd like to see how their changing thinks! in so many other performance arts the "male" role is the supporting one - figure skating, ballroom dance; the male role is there to make the female role shine. i think that’s something maya would also enjoy being!!

HDSJFDSK okay look. maya has that flair. that penchant for dramatics. she enjoys a little power play here and there. cupping karen’s face in the middle of a fight, “you’re beautiful even when you cry” - of course she’s a dom lmao

honestly maya can top, bottom, and dom, but she just won’t sub. there’s nothing enjoyable about that kind of power surrender for her even if she knows it’s still founded on the utmost respect and care for your partner. it doesn’t necessarily have to bother her or make her uncomfortable, it just doesn’t get her hot :/

kuro on the other hand, kuro can do anything because kuro is the swiss army knife of lesbians. she has that playful teasing streak like sneaking up on mahiru, she knows when to give way for a better performance (it’s just that it’s rare for any performance to be better without kuro). i think i read some very tasty meta somewhere about how when, in episode 10, kuro Threw her sword for maya to jump on, that’s Big Kuro Energy: she most definitely shines, but if it’s for the greater purpose of the performance, she won’t hesitate to sacrifice her own chance. without the sword, she wouldn’t be able to fight anymore, but she gambles it all on maya. anyway what this means is that she would be a good sub in that she still always be in full control of the scene As A Good Dom/Sub Relationship Should Be. still, kuro wouldn’t be happy subbing/bottoming all the time, and maya wouldn’t be happy if kuro wasn’t happy.

(it kinda bothers me when ppl say “oh maya would let kuro top her sometimes” like no?? that sounds so grudging wtf maya would gladly let kuro top her and honestly maya deserves to get topped sometime. maya “lets” kuro top her in the same way kuro lets maya top her. they pass around the top hat ok)

i think that once kuro and maya have sorted out their stage fight from their love life they’ll be much happier and softer with each other, because kuro can finally let go of her sense of inferiority once she knows maya really truly admires and adores her. and kuro’s always gonna have that competitive spirit that maya loves drawing out, but they’re gonna be emotionally mature and stable enough to know that it’s not always trying to be “better”

ange: a bit older than i would have liked, but good as far as english dubs of cold/restrained/quiet girls go

dorothy: again, a bit older - not too great on the more introspective, pensive lines, but seems fun on the action lines so fingers crossed

chise: actually my favourite! i like what they did with her accent, it’s not too overboard and it’s quite chise-ish - esp the line translation “allow me to prove my trustworthiness in your unworthy eyes” Wow Chise Got Savage And I Like It. also im really enjoying the thing they’re doing with keeping the japanese voices in episode 5 and subbing that instead - i hope they’ll do the same thing with episode 9 and chise talking to lord horikawa tbh!!

Hey! I follow you on twitter/tumblr because of your fics & that delicious bushiroad content, and I was wondering since I've seen a lot of sudden posts about unfollowing/blocking incest shipping in bandori from multiple people in the EN fandom, I still see people retweet art from JP and KR artists who also draw syhn... This is something that's worrying me, so I went on anon... but wouldn't it be better to just block and no longer support incest shippers from all parts of the fandom, not just EN?

you’re very valid and understandable! i know some people who Have done that, too, n i hope they’re living blissful lives right now!! and if you wanna do the same then all power to you, anon!

this was one of the things that worried me too when the whole thing started a couple days ago, and i consulted my Older and Wiser Friends, and what im about to write is basically lifted right from that convo: what is blocking jp/kr artists going to do? are they actually aware of who the english fandom is, do they interact with EN on a regular basis? because of not, apart from your own peace of mind, blocking them isn’t. gonna do anything. they don’t care, they never noticed you in the first place, unless you’re speaking jp/kr and actively engaging with them you’re not part of the JP/KR fandom. chances are your protests will never even register on their radar. 

EN fandom, though. we gotta take responsibility and actively ostracize fucking incest shippers. let them know no one’s gonna tolerate them. teach them the shame they obviously never learned. if the majority of the fandom openly says “we will not have you here”, that might make them think twice, and that might keep the fandom actually approachable and not just... cesspool of incest to anyone who was thinking maybe they like bandori, it seems pretty cool, so how about let’s look at some ao3 stories about sayo and oh jesus what the fuck

and its just really. fucking unfortunate. that so, so many artists ship it, so that if you went and blocked every single artist you might not be seeing any more art from that side.

also keep in mind that a lot of people only retweet/reblog art that’s in search tags or the blogs/twitters of people they follow, so they may not even know they’re sharing an incest shipper’s content.

if this were like... a published author. a commissioning artist. then fuck no im not giving them any of my money. but if im just hanging on the peripheral, then - death of the author and all that, i guess. i have a strong stomach so i’ll salvage what i like and bring it back to my friends so they don’t have to go rooting through the trash.

uhh if u mean like for fun i wrote bits when i was like eight? i wrote and posted One (1) fic at the tender age of 11 or smth. and then nothing mdkslmfds i did nanowrimo in year 10 just for the kicks and i’d like to say that was the grand beginning of my writing career!! but rly i just printed that certificate out and then didn’t write another word till i graduated high school lmao

love live is really the first fandom i got actively invested in? i remember i saw the gays on tumblr in 2015, went “nice” and checked out the tap tap game, went “NICE” and then somehow i was writing fic! i saw some tasty kotoeli fanart and wanted me some more of that, published my first teeny fic as a response to that, made a few headcanon posts and found out ppl like my onions (thanks @huesofthemorning really u were the first to yeet me into Public Notice) and then it all just snowballed from there

now here i sit atop my mountain of abandoned wips, located along the mountain range of my good good friends’ own mountains… honestly anon if u have stories to tell u should go for it!! it’s only 90% suffering :) sometimes u even get a Comment!
