La La Land foi um dos filmes mais hypados em 2017. 

Há quem o chame de obra prima, e claro, existem aqueles que dizem que é um filme superestimado, o fato é que achando bom ou ruim, o filme deu o que falar e atualmente  é o musical queridinho de Hollywood. 

Teve várias indicações em diversos festivais de cinema, vale ressaltar o Oscar, com 14 indicações – melhor figurino também, mas não ganhou! – e levou 6 estatuetas para casa em outras categorias, como: Melhor diretor, melhor atriz, fotografia, trilha sonora, música original e design de produção.

Na San Diego Film Critics Socity (2016), Mary Zophres foi indicada e ganhou o Melhor Figurino.

Tirando a parte técnica e falando de emoção, o filme é lindo... realmente é uma obra prima! É mágico e cheio de referências da antiga Hollywood, a fotografia é vibrante, traz toda aquela tendência Technicolor que marcou as décadas de 30-50 com uma bela saturação e delicadeza. E não é à toa que foi de lá que saíram as inspirações para figurino e fotografia, né?!

"Nós queríamos que o filme tivesse um pezinho no contemporâneo, e o outro nos clássicos da antiga Hollywood." 

As principais fontes de referência foram os musicais do diretor francês Jacques Demy: "Os Guarda-Chuvas do Amor" (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, 1957); “Duas Garotas Românticas” (The Young Girls of Rochefort, 1967) e “Lola, a Flor Proibida” (Lola, 1961); “Cantando na Chuva” (Singin' in the Rain, 1952); “Romeu e Julieta” (1996) e “Prenda-me se for Capaz” (Catch Me If You Can, 2002) - onde Mary também foi a figurinista. 

Atrizes (divas!) e atores da antiga Hollywood também inspiraram o estilo de Mia e Sebastian, tais como: Grace Kelly, Katharine Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman (a parede do quarto de Mia é pintada com o rosto dela, veja na imagem abaixo!), Bill Evans, Hoagy Carmichael e James Dean.

A figurinista conta em uma entrevista à “Grazia Daily” que se reuniu com o Damien (diretor) para ler página por página e decidir quais cores seriam usadas em cada cena, eles decidiram que o primeiro vestido que Mia (Emma Stone) usaria seria azul royal, a festa repleta de cores vibrantes foi inspirada em “A grande beleza” (The Great Beauty, 2014) do Paolo Sorrentino e por uma sequência de dança em “Charity, meu amor” (Sweet Charity, 1969).

Todos os vestidos das cenas de dança foram feitos especialmente para o filme e eles possuíam roupa de baixo combinando, um detalhe quase imperceptível, mas que prova o cuidado que a figurinista tem com o projeto.

Os looks casuais de Mia foram comprados em lojas de departamento e brechós para serem mais reais e compatíveis com o orçamento de uma garçonete que sonha em ser atriz. A figurinista conta que comprou várias peças numa loja vintage chamada Playclothes, fica em Burbank e é sua favorita, e também comprou um top na H&M por $5.

Mia usou na maior parte do filme saias + blusas ou vestidos. O visual da personagem é clássico e romântico. A figurinista comenta em uma entrevista que gostaria que os homens se sentissem encantados por Emma e as mulheres se sentissem cortejadas pelo Ryan. (e conseguiu, não é mesmo? é praticamente impossível não se apaixonar por esses dois também!) 

Mary já havia trabalhado com Emma e Ryan em 2013, no filme "Caça aos Gângsteres" (Gangster Squad), o que torna uma vantagem por já saber qual tipo de modelagem e cores funciona melhor com eles. 

Numa das pesquisas, a figurinista encontrou (e se apaixonou) um vestido Versace amarelo canário usado por Emma em 2014 num red carpet, logo criou a sua própria versão para usar no filme, optou por um decote quadrado para valorizar o colo e incluiu flores como uma pintura de Matisse. 

O charme da cena aparece quando Mia tira da bolsa um sapato igual ao de Sebastian e eles dançam lindamente nessa locação incrível.

Sendo assim, este look foi inspirado no vestido verde jade que Judy Garland usou na sua versão de "Nasce Uma Estrela" (A Star is Born, 1954). Ela não se inspirou exatamente no modelo de vestido, mas sim na cor. 

5 anos depois: o retorno maduro e monocromático de Mia

Após 5 anos, Mia aparece num vestido preto e branco de renda, o que prova que as coisas estão mais monocromáticas agora.

 "Há uma maturidade lá: queríamos que o seu último aspecto parecesse um pouco mais sério e adulto, mas ainda assim sem perder a essência da personagem. Mia começa com muita cor e esse pico no planetário; quando ela e Sebastian não se vêem e a luz sai do relacionamento deles, o filme fica mais monocromático"

Para o look final, a figurinista se inspirou em uma foto de Catherine Deneuve em um vestido escuro com uma alça cruzada na parte de trás, e ela está olhando por cima do ombro. 

Mia já esta numa fase mais madura, realizada profissionalmente e com uma vida estável, então é escolhido um vestido de  grife para transmitir esta mudança ao longo dos anos.

O vestido é assinado pelo estilista Jason Wu, todas as outras peças foram construídas do zero ou compradas em lojas de departamento e brechós. 

O vestido de “E se a gente tivesse ficado juntos?”

A última parte do filme entra no lúdico pensamento de “E SE?” e a gente entra numa viagem do que poderia ter sido a vida dos dois juntos, é uma cena muito delicada e com referência de um clássico musical. O vestido escolhido demonstra delicadeza, romantismo e fluidez de um sonho lindo. 

A valsa é uma referência muito óbvia a Ginger Rogers e Fred Astaire que tiveram uma ótima parceria. O vestido branco também faz referência ao que Ginger usou em Swing Time (1936), um branco super fluido e elegante.

“Todos os vestidos que Mia usa foram projetados com a dança em mente, à medida que avançamos progressivamente no filme, o volume nas saias fica cada vez maior: a saia do vestido branco não era apenas um círculo inteiro, era um círculo e meio.”

Esse é o vestido preferido da figurinista - e o meu também - essa cena é incrivelmente linda e a gente sempre torce para que o casal principal fique juntos, né? Mas no final eles se olham, sorriem e sinto que é um sinal de que está tudo bem, ambos estão felizes por conquistar seus sonhos.

As exhilarating as it would be to dine on baby white asparagus with white sturgeon caviar and sip Napa Valley’s finest 2014 vintage red blend while dripping in crystal encrusted Versace couture inside the striking halls of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum--amongst the fashion and entertainment industry’s most elite at that—more than likely, most of us will never actually have the chance to.

But fret not, because even the most fashion sense-less will be able to experience the splendor of the Met Gala Monday night via live stream. Considered to be one of fashion’s most grandeur events of the year, the super exclusive Met Gala will bring out 600 high-profile fashion figures and entertainers. The event itself is never televised. However, people who want to get a glimpse of the Gala’s red carpet glamour will be able to get in on the action from the comforts of their couch now that the E! network and other online outlets are airing coverage of the event’s red carpet.

So although everyday people won’t be able to put on their Sunday best and head to the museum to celebrate Comme de Garçon’s founder Rei Kawakumo—the gala’s theme this year is Kawakumo’s Art of the In-Between exhibit—they will still get a chance to see celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Blake Lively, Sarah Jessica Parker and Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintor as they walk the Met Gala steps in their avant-garde gowns before heading into the private venue and partying the night away.

Although social media is restricted during the event, there will more than likely be a steady flow of Met Gala related content streaming on both Vogue and E!’s Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

Of course, it’s unclear as to who will actually pop up on the Met Gala red carpet Monday. Wintor, who serves as a chairperson for the event, always gives the final approval for the 600-person guest list, which costs about $30,000 for a ticket and up to $275,000 for a table, and celebrity invitees usually aren’t made known until their arrival.

Kawakumo’s exhibit will open to the public at the Met Thursday.
