DIE HOCHSTAPLER has developed a highly personal style based on collective composition, radical individualism and oral communication. Their music is developed collectively in extensive rehearsal periods, the repertoire growing and renewing itself constantly. Poetry, alphabets and game structures serve as a basis for the common memory basket from which the four players are drawing in every performance in a new and unpredictable way.

For ten years, "Die Hochstapler" (The Impostors) have been developing music based on orality that is both improvised and composed. Games, mathematical systems, voice-overs, alphabets and texts serve as their inspirations. For "This Is Just To Say", the quartet has invited three artists working with language in individual ways: radio-play producer Antje Vowinckel, vocal performer Mat Pogo and Neapolitan singer Cristina Vetrone. These seven artists jointly derive structures from language, explore the voice as maximally moldable musical material and play with sound poetry as an expression of interior processes.
DONAUESCHINGER MUSIKTAGE The Donaueschingen Music Days are the oldest and most traditional festival for New Music in the world. Founded in 1921 under the protection of a prince, they still stand for all new experimental forms in the field of contemporary music and sound art. Every year, around 10,000 visitors from more than 15 countries come to Donaueschingen to experience the diverse programme of world premieres, sound installations, discussions, workshops and lectures. Internationally renowned ensembles such as the Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart and the SWR Experimental Studio regularly perform here.
The Donaueschingen Music Days are organised by the Donaueschingen Friends of Music Society in cooperation with the town of Donaueschingen, Südwestrundfunk and the SWR Experimental Studio.
