Artella: Connect & Collaborate  in a Global Studio for Creatives

Technology continues to grow with problem-solving minds like the folk at Artella, with a vision to create a dream software to improve the lives of artists.

One of the first things that stood out to Producer Sasha Korellis when Carlos Baena approached her to create La Noria, was his intent to work with people all over the world. La Noria is an animated horror film directed by filmmaker/animator Baena and produced as an online collaboration made possible through Artella, a cloud-based project management system.

It has been a dream of Producer Korellis to have tools that the animation industry could actually work with, from home or while traveling. Where it doesn’t matter where an artist is, they’re still contributing and still collaborating and not missing a beat. 

An early version of the Artella Pipeline, takes the team all the way from layout to animation, to lighting, recently adding cloth & hair simulations. Everything is online and it’s working out really well, Korellis says. La Noria has artists in Spain, Los Angeles, New York, Georgia, Vallejo, Iran, Australia, Germany, and Argentina.

“What’s the most amazing part is that if we didn’t do this, we wouldn’t be able to work with an amazing artist like CG Supervisor Yasin Hasanian, because he has to do his military service in Iran and it’s impossible for him to leave, but it’s not impossible for us to do art and do a project together which is amazing to me.” - Korellis

It’s ironic that the visual effects industry being so important in hollywood blockbuster films, make a small margin of profit. On top of that, there’s a short window per artist contract that lasts about 6 months and is in constant movement depending on where the movie is being made. This makes it hard for artists to settle down, have a family or buy a home, and do what they love.

“When people are able to travel or be in their own space and be comfortable, I feel that the work is much better, not distracted.” - concludes Korellis.

Korellis theorizes and hopes that companies are going to eventually set people up in their homes. Artists would have a good life/work balance and don’t have to keep moving around every 6 months.

The dream continues to spread and grow, and it all begins with Artella and it’s promise.
