“Politico di lungo corso, se andiamo a guardare il suo curriculum troviamo un bel po di roba, e non tutta di buona qualita.

Nel 1979 fa parte della Sicula Brokers, e i suoi soci si chiamano Benny D'Agostino e Nino Mandalà, capocosca di Villabate, condannati entrambi successivamente per Associazione Mafiosa.

Nel 1983 è avvocato di Giovanni Bontate, fratello di Stefano, il "principe di Villagrazia", ai vertici di Cosa Nostra, assassinato dai corleonesi nel corso della guerra di mafia degli anni 80.

Nel 2009 Gaspare Spatuzza, il pentito doc che ha consentito di scoprire chi fossero i veri responsabili della strage di via D'Amelio, lo accusa di aver frequentato Filippo Graviano, boss di Brancaccio.

Nel 2011 il pentito Stefano Lo Verso, uno degli autisti di Provenzano, accusa Schifani, Cuffaro e Saverio Romano di essere nelle mani della mafia.

Nel 2015 viene assolto dal reato di Concorso Esterno in associazione mafiosa.

Due anni di investigazioni e poi l'archiviazione: «Sono emerse talune relazioni con personaggi inseriti nell’ambiente mafioso o vicini a detto ambiente nel periodo in cui lo Schifani era attivamente impegnato nella sua attività di avvocato» che però “non assumono un livello probatorio minimo per sostenere un’accusa in giudizio tanto più che, a prescindere dalla consapevolezza dell’indagato dell’effettiva caratura mafiosa dei suoi interlocutori, tali condotte si collocano per lo più in un periodo ormai lontano nel tempo fatti per i quali opererebbe, in ogni caso, la prescrizione”.

I rapporti c’erano ma troppo lontani nel tempo: l'inizio degli Anni Novanta, appena prima della fondazione di Forza Italia.

Il profilo del personaggio è questo, né più né meno.

Nel 2015 il pentito Carmelo D'Amico accusa Schifani e l'ex ministro dell'interno Angelino Alfano di essere stati messi in politica dalla mafia.

Dulcis in fundo: nel 2003 Renato Schifani accusa Rita Borsellino e Maria Falcone di avere "offeso la memoria dei loro eroici fratelli".
