So bleak to read about Vince, the southern white rhino who was murdered for his horn at a zoo in France yesterday. A despicable act for a bogus remedy with no medicinal value.
I've spoken about thus before, but it really saddens me to know that Thailand, the country that I currently live in, is a major hub of the illegal animal trade (and many other animal rights' abuses. Let's just say if I were a rhino in a Thai zoo being shot would be a relief). Much of the rhino horn, ivory, pangolin scales, lion and tiger bone, etc is shipped through Thailand and from here to China and Vietnam.
Freeland and The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/…/bach-brothers-elephant-ivory-…) have released further information on the wildlife trafficking crime ring running through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China. The Bach Brothers are the main players in the crime family at the centre of Asia's animal trafficking network.
These guys are wanted for horrendous crimes against protected species. Bach Mai, known to his friends as ‘Boonchai’, 38 who runs the Thai wildlife trafficking end in Nakhon Panthom; and his older brother, Bach Van Limh, 45 who runs the Laos/Vietnamese end are the wildlife trafficking crime family responsible for MAJOR wildlife killing and trafficking between Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China.
These men are still at large after the were exposed by the Guardian. The story received absolutely no coverage in the English-speaking media in Thailand.
This shit has to stop. People need to be held accountable.
