Occupy Wall Street

When I first heard about Occupy Wall Street, I was totally into it and thought, "What? Protest? Too bad. If I was there, I'd be in the streets, too." But it was only because I'm young and rowdy just like the rest of you, hate authority, and love protests. Any protests. Anything that has to do with standing up to The Man, I'm in. And I knew that was the only reason, so I kept my eyes peeled for more.

As the protest has continued you observe more, learn more, talk to more people about it, take in the facts, whatever. Now what I think of Occupy Wall Street is that it is America throwing a big, fat temper tantrum. I'm thinking, "What the fuck are you guys doing in the streets?" And I don't doubt that a lot of the protesters don't know what they're doing either. A fat percent are just following the herd.

So you see these protesters with signs like, "I can't afford college/health care/a house" or "I'm in $_0,000 debt" or "I've been unemployed for (however long)" or even "My mom/dad/sister/brother died 'cause (something about finances)." This is called complaining. You don't see any signs that propose anything new and practical. Key word being PRACTICAL. None of that "Wall Street needs to give their money to the 99% 'cause they're rich and I'm poor" stuff. That is unrealistic and if you were Wall Street, would you do that?

Right now the big question is what do the protesters want to happen. Maybe some of the protesters know, but America sure doesn't. None of my teachers even understand the protesters' ideas beyond "Give me money. Now."And how can anything happen when there's no clear, organized idea being presented. All the needs are scattered; old people yelling for health care, young people yelling for education, then there's mortgages and taxes and employment and being "fair" by evenly distributing wealth, etc. And behind all of this "I want, and I want, and I want some more" what is there? Nothing. That's why Wall Street isn't going to do anything. Well, the main reason is that they're greedy, but after that, they think of this protest the same way as I do. Unorganized and scatter-brained.

Basically, Occupy Wall Street is all brawn and no brains. It has growing numbers and people who are devoted to the cause. It's very cool and will go down in history whether it changes the course of America or not. But until there is a brain and consensus, Wall Street isn't going to acknowledge them. And until there's a brain, it's just going to continue to be a wide-spread temper tantrum getting whinier and whinier every day.

I took an unpopular opinion on this, but I do think that this could turn into something. I'm still for it, I just don't want to hear about it the same way I've been. When the brain shows up, I will go back to the popular opinion. And when the brain shows up; to Occupy Seattle!
