🌞 Nå starter sola sin langsome klatring på himmelen – i dag er det vintersolverv! Land og kulturer verden over har unike måter å feire vintersolverv på. Her i norden betydde vintersolverv at vikingene startet nedtellingen til sin julefeiring. For her har vi feiret jul i uminnelige tider. Lenge før kirken inførte julen slik vi kjenner den i dag, feiret folk jól midtvinters. Selv om det finnes få fysiske spor etter den førkristne julen, finnes det rikelig med henvisninger til jul og julefeiring i sagaene. Fellestrekket er at julen ble ”drukket” sammen med familie og venner. Høvdinger og storbønder holdt store julegilder, og folk spiste og drakk mer enn vanlig, i grunnen ikke så ulikt dagens juefeiring. Så uansett hvor du er, kos deg litt ekstra i dag, for nå blir de lengre! . 🌞 Today the darks stops rising and the sun begins its slow climb back - its winter solstice in the northern hemispehere! Countries and cultures across the world have unique ways of celebrating Winter Solstice. Here in the Nordic countries, the winter solstice meant that the Vikings started the countdown to their celebration, jól. Long before the church introduced Christmas as we know it today, people celebrated jól in the middle of winter. Although there are few physical traces of the pre-Christian celebration, there are plenty of references to jól and its celebrations in the sagas. The common feature is that people where "drinking jól" with family and friends. Chiefs and "Jarls" held large parties with lots of food and beer, and people could eat and drink more than usual. Basically not so different from todays celebration.
