Practicing some challenging shifting passages by omitting the notes before each shift. This keeps my hand relaxed and trains the shifts to be rhythmically accurate. The key is when omitting the notes, play the passage as if it had been composed with rests. Then adding the omitted notes is easy and my hand is relaxed and stable for the octaves at the top of each of these runs. I often #practicescales and #arpeggios #startingfromthetop This allows me to be more alert to my hand and arm position in the upper register. Also, since I’m changing to the next #arpeggio at the top, my mind is most alert at the most challenging part of each arpeggio. Additionally, changing from one arpeggio to the next makes it clear how the upper position hand shape changes from one to he next. Increase control over runs by practicing smooth acceleration and deceleration! Any rubato added will be easier to control. Note: change speeds very smoothly note by note. Notice how shifts, string crossings and bow changes effect the smoothness. Avoid sudden changes of speed. Dropping the second finger first creates the perfect 4th - then add the pinky to complete the third. Lift the pinky and listen for the perfect 4th again before lifting the 2nd finger.
