Get to Know Early Mountain Vineyard

Right in our backyard, a short 30 minute drive up 29, lies one of our areas most beautiful wineries. Not only are the vistas breathtaking, but Early Mountain also showcases award-winning wines and a lovely menu sourced from local farms. If you’ve never been before, then you’re in for a treat. And if it’s been awhile, then it’s time for a repeat visit. We popped into Early Mountain and met with Aileen Sevier, marketing director, for a tour of the tasting room and event spaces and got a run down on the all-important wines and food they offer. 

The Wine Tasting

There are two main options when it comes to trying Early Mountain’s wines. One of the most popular, is to step up to the bar in the tasting room and a order a tasting, either the Early Mountain Tasting, which samples six wines, or the Early Mountain Cheers Tasting that samples nine wines. Upon completion, you can order your favorite glass, or better yet, grab your a bottle and find a lovey spot outdoors to while away your afternoon. 

The Flights

Another way to enjoy their wines is to order a flight, and these are usually served at your table. The pour is a little larger than a tasting, with four different flights to choose from with four wines per flight. The flight options change, but they always tell an interesting story and will be accompanied by tasting notes. One of the most unique things about Early Mountain is that they offer wines from other Virginia wineries and have made it a part of their mission to educate and be ambassadors for Virginia viniculture. During the flights, you’ll have the opportunity to get a taste of other area wineries. 

The Menu

Their menu has been thoughtfully crafted to pair particularly well with their wines. Most items on their menu are made in-house, including all of their delicious spreads and dips. The menu changes seasonally, and sources local ingredients. When we were there in late winter, and looking for a little bite, we particularly enjoyed the lovely artisanal cheese and charcuterie board and artichoke pate. If you’re looking for something a little more substantial, they offer a delicious kale Cesar salad, country ham & swiss panini, prosciutto & goat cheese flatbread, and a hearty meatball sub.

The winery always has fun events going on, from their annual Christmas extravaganza and late-winter Oyster fest, to live music, talks and painting sessions. Check out their events listings regularly HERE.
