• moonbin & jiyoon were the only ones invited, which wasn't very surprising considering how well they had done with their brand deals recently

• they came to serve and (mostly) delivered

• everyone said they were really on theme but they just went for floral looks lol

• they didn't match each other at all and most of the night they weren't even together

• fans complained a bit about jiyoon's hair because it wasn't styled, it was just left alone, but mostly they liked it anyways

• the boys had fun though

• moonbin's english really improved bc he did well when he was talking to emma chamberlain but he mostly avoided talking to a lot of people

• jiyoon had the time of his life tho talking to everyone he could

• jiyoon mentioned his adoptive sister dia was a big fan of emma, he said "my sister was excited for me to come. dia said, emma and ariana, matteo." emma laughed really hard at that. (for context: dia is his sister, and she was asking him to meet those two)

• when jiyoon left she joked with the camera that she had a new crush

• the after party looks were mostly just regular suits, styled by prada and gucci respectively

• moonbin's was literally a prada suit, and jiyoon's was a white cropped suit thing

• moonbin stuck closer to jiyoon for the afterparty bc they were gonna have to socialize and jiyoon's english was better than his

• ariana grande approached them first

• she came up to them and was like 'oh my gosh, i just saw you guys at coachella, you did amazing' and she was so sweet

• jiyoon literally died in that moment right there

• moonbin was adopted by stray kids, bc jiyoon was social butterfly-ing with english speakers and he didn't understand

• stays were loving it at first until a fanwar ceased all positive contact between the fandoms

• locals began commenting on stays posts that were praising their friendship saying moonbin had outdone them and then stays retaliated saying skz outdid and moonbin was leeching

• so yeah

• anyways

• jiyoon also said hi to skz and particularly tried to steal jeongin

• jiyoon also talked to sydney sweeney, tyla, and sabrina carpenter

• he wanted to say hi to zendaya but literally couldn't find her anywhere

• the boys accepted lollipops and a bunch of other snacks from chris hemsworth and jennifer lopez who were co chairs and successors literally died at it

• it was like they were being crowned winner or something it was really cute

• jiyoon was nicknamed prince of the gala

• they took pics with literally everyone you have no idea

• moonbin was so shy on the live after he kept saying 'next time' in tiny english it was so cute

GROUP HEADCANONS — just little things i’ve thought up for the group as a whole 

• in their pre-debut days hanbin used to pick on and harass cheulsoo because he felt like cheulsoo had gotten in as a trainee purely because his father owns ybs entertainment . the two have talked about their strained relationship in-depth on one of their mini-series . the two are now extremely close . 

• the boys have somewhat of their own zoo : hanbin has a cat named wish , moonbin a pomeranian named pogo , xiaowen has two cats named lady and tramp , and miles owns a rabbit named pig . when they’re in the country all the animals live in the apartment and when they are out of the country their families care for them . 

• ye jun is not allowed to cook without supervision after he set their oven on fire because he forgot that he was baking one evening and fell asleep with cookies still in the oven .

• originally ye jun was supposed to room with hanbin and xiaowen was to room with cheulsoo but within the first week the group made xiaowen and ye jun switch because xiaowen and cheulsoo together was too loud and chaotic for them to handle . 

• kiha had his bedroom soundproofed so that he could work on producing at any hour without disrupting anybody else , especially late at night . 

• the most active member on social media is a tie between cheulsoo and ye jun , but miles is the one who interacts and responds with fans the most . the least active member is kiha .

• when they tour everybody now gets their own rooms but it isn’t uncommon to find empty rooms and others being occupied by two or three members .

•  sterlyng silver in the last three years has began opening up more about mental illness , ye jun speaking freely about his struggles with depression and bipolar disorder and cheulsoo mentioning his anxiety more recently in interviews / vlives / apperances . 

• the group regrets babying cheulsoo so much over the years because he has become spoiled rotten and is known for throwing temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way . everybody ends up eventually conceding to him . 

• kiha is the shortest and oldest in the group at 5′8″ and the younger boys never let him live down this fact . the tallest is xiaowen at 6′0″ . everyone else sits between 5′9″ and 5′10″ . 

• every member has been injured one way or another while on tour one way or another . HANBIN - sprained his ankle when he missed a step going down the stairs .  KIHA - two broken ribs after a pipe from their stage broke off and slammed into his chest .  YE JUN - achilles tendonitis due to over exerting himself while dancing .  MOONBIN - black eye from an elbow to the eye when roughhousing with xiaowen , miles and cheulsoo . split lip from roughhousing with cheulsoo .  XIAOWEN - broken finger from getting a door shut on it while roughhousing at one of the hotels with cheulsoo and miles . MILES - mild concussion after falling off the stage while trying to reach out to grab a fan’s phone . ( security tried to catch him but weren’t close enough ) CHEULSOO - broke his wrist after catching himself with his hands when he tripped over his own feet .

Q. What’s your usual daily life like? If it’s not meeting my friends then I’ll just be lazing around at home. I do that often. I’m not a morning kind of person so I’d wake up at 2pm on the days I have no schedules and go, "So it’s morning," and have my meal (laughs). I either cook or order in and if I’m full then I’d lie around but when I start feeling up to do something, it’s already 7pm. I don’t really game but I’ll play a bit then think it’s boring and then go exercise. (Of course it has to be about exercising.) I often exercise at night. I’ll exercise from 9 to 10pm and if I need aerobics, I’ll change outfits and make a round to Han River then it’ll be 2am. If it’s a period where I’ll be fine just bathing without maintaining myself then I’ll even eat if I’m hungry. I become a little more diligent when I’m meeting with friends.

Q. You’re good at cooking too? I really like rice with soy sauce and egg so I’ll add a lot of something into it. There’re times when I’d add work belly. I eat chicken breast when I’m on a diet but eating that alone makes me feel as though I’m not living like a proper human so I’ll put some butter and eat it (laughs). I like food but ramyun’s an exception. I really like it. I always have it with my rice. I’ve eaten at most 3. I’d make 2 packets but then it doesn’t feel enough so I’d eat one more but that’s not possible for me now. I really like ramyun. (What kind do you like?) Jin Ramen’s mild flavour. Taste and scent is important to me and there’s a softness to their power so I like it. (You’ve to shoot a ramyun CF.) I’d really like that…

Q. You must like meat too. I like all kinds. There was a period where I was really in love with entrails. There’s an entrails restaurant near my aunt’s place in Ilsan so I tried it for the first time and it was so delicious. There’s also a famous entrails restaurant near our dorm too so I ordered in and it was so delicious so for a while I would order that at midnight. Had it with salt, had it marinated and even with rice (laughs). My chin hurt a lot but it really delicious. If I get addicted then it’s all about that one thing. I was addicted to pork’s skin in middle school so my mum would make me some before school and I’d have that before leaving… I also fell in love with beef brisket and soybean paste stew. It’s the same with songs.

Q. Then what are you addicted to lately? Yoo Seung Eun sunbae’s Jealousy. I really like it so for a while I listened to that but starting yesterday I’ve been listening to 'If You’re Over Me' by Years & Years and SHINee’s Key sunbae-nim. The song’s really good. I like stuff like manhwas and webtoons so every month I���d spend in the tens to read the next ep ahead since I can’t wait.

Q. There’s a rumour that a cat’s raising a cat. I did raise one. I raised it for 3 days in the dorm but it’s now being raised at my parent’s house. It’s such a tiny baby but I’m not often in the dorm so… I’m worried since it’s small. My sleeping habits are horrible and it sleeps next to me so I catnap in case I crush it. I wake up and look around to see if it’s there. The breed’s a Siamese. I don’t think it recognises me now. Its name is Roa. Moon Roa. When it’s a little bigger and doesn’t receive as much stress from its surrounding and things get better than I’ll bring it over.

Q. I heard that you have the strongest drinking capacity in ASTRO. I drink well amongst the members. The hyungs can’t drink. Eunwoo and I are quite good drinkers. Around 2 bottles of soju for me? My drinking habit is that I laugh a lot. I laugh for no reason and I act cute. (Don’t you usually have aegyo?) It comes out when I drink. Even if it’s not often, I drink with JinJin hyung and Eunwoo. Eunwoo’s the only one who’s the same age as me so whenever I have any concerns then I’ll ask him if he wants to grab a beer and we talk it out. JinJin hyung’s good at listening when you confide in him about your worries so we drink together.

Q. Moonbin’s cute? Sexy? I’m not quite sure… (He pondered quite a fair bit as compared to his earlier refreshing answers.) If I look cute on stage then I’ll have to be cute, right? I don’t think there’re any sexy sides to my usual self. Am I not closer to cute than sexy? I’m not cute though… I play a lot of pranks. I’ll purposely poke the hyungs to see their reactions and they’re nice so they play along. The expected answer from fans is um… Won’t they like sexy? We were cute for our 1st and 2nd albums and started showing a manlier side starting from our 3rd album, there were a lot of people who liked 'Crazy Sexy Cool'. Rather than outright sexy, slightly?

Q. What’s Moonbin’s biggest interest lately? Preparations for the next album! Eunwoo’s gaining recognition through his drama and we promoted once on broadcast with our special album but the reactions were good so according to how the next album will be put out, our image will change a little.

Q. What kind of song style would you like to challenge yourself to? What I’ve always wanted to try is SHINee’s kind of songs. They slowly matured from 'Replay' and even have the sexiness. A song like '1 of 1' is nice too. (I feel like Moonbin would suit 'MOVE' too.) Ah, I also want to try something like that too. It’s a song that’s like male version of 'Adult Ceremony'. I want to try something sensual too.

Q. What’s Moonbin’s 21st like? What I’ve felt after turning 21 is that time flies by fast? I haven’t lived long but that’s what hit me the most. Moments that didn’t seem like they’ll pass, do pass and there’s also wanting to enjoy a little longer but it’s over in a quick second. It’s been a 21st where I sort of learnt a lot.

Q. What are your goals for the second half of the year? I want to prepare well for our album and proper show myself on stage, I hope we can shoot a group CF (laughs). Ramyun? It’ll be nice if we could shoot a refreshing drink CF in the summer but it’s autumn so roasted chestnuts? (laughs)

Q. If there’s anything you’d like to really say to AROHAs? I wondered if a lot of you would return when we make our comeback and many turned up. I heard that the number of people who came for M! Countdown’s special stage was the greatest. Thank you for waiting. There weren’t a lot of fansigns for this promotion but we’ll prepare well for the next one and hold fansigns and I hope we can open a concert.

El lineup de hoy incluyó muchos grupos a los que amo con pasión, así que les advierto que este post va a tener una buena cantidad de fangirling. Están advertidos. Los grupos que se presentaron hoy fueron ASTRO, Golden Child, Nature, MAMAMOO y N.Flying.

Si a estas alturas no saben de lo que estoy hablando, KCON:TACT 2020 Summer es una serie de conciertos y eventos online con más de treinta grupos y solistas. Son siete días de eventos las veinticuatro horas del día.

El contenido online solo está disponible para subscriptores, pero aunque el evento como tal temina mañana, el contenido va a estar disponible por más tiempo. Así que, si les interesa, pueden chequear el canal de YouTube de MNET aquí. También pueden leer mis posts sobre cada día aquí.

El opening performance de hoy estuvo a cargo de ASTRO (*Yo en el background haciendo el fanchant: MJ, JinJin, Cha Eun Woo, Moonbin, Rocky, Yoon Sanha. ASTRO!!!!*), quienes subieron al escenario para cantar sobre sueños, que era el tema del día de hoy.

Luego, le tocó el turno a Golden Child, uno de esos grupos que mientras más lo veo, más me gusta.

Honestamente, en un principio yo no le había prestado mucha atención a este grupo. Sí lo conocía, más que nada como el donsaeng group de INFINITE. No sólo ambos grupos pertenecen a la misma agencia, Woollim, sino que, además, el líder de Golden Child, Daeyeol, es el hermano menor de Sungyeol de INFINITE.

Pero yo realmente empecé a prestarles atención después de que vi a Bomin en el drama Please Melt Me. Y, bueno, no es la primera vez que, para mí, el K-pop resulta ser un efecto secundario de los K-dramas.

Me alegro de haberlos descubierto porque lo cierto es que me encantan todas sus canciones y hoy cantaron muchas de mis favoritas como OMG, Wannabe, Without You y One (Lucid Dream). Esta última canción es el sencillo que están promocionando en su comeback.

Los chicos de Golden Child subieron al escenario con unos trajes blancos como niños santitos el día de su primera comunión. ¡Bellos! Pero no tienen que creerme, aquí les dejo las fotos individuales.

¿A poco no creen que parecen unos angelitos? El crédito de las fotos es KCON, yo solamente estoy repartiendo el amor. De nada.

Antes de pasar al próximo grupo, quiero hablar brevemente de Road to Kingdom, porque, honestamente, me sorprendió que hoy ni siquiera se mencionara la participación de Golden Child en el programa. Y yo entiendo que ellos todavía deben estar decepcionados de ser el primer grupo que fue eliminado de la competencia, pero eso no borra el buen trabajo que hicieron.

A mí me gustaron mucho sus performances, tanto el cover de T.O.P. de Shinhwa, como cuando cantaron Wannabe. Para mí fue realmente una sorpresa cuando los eliminaron y no me abochorna confesar que lloré con ellos. Cute babies!

Pero, bueno, moving on. El próximo grupo en subir al escenario fue MAMAMOO.  Y me refiero a Solar, Moonbyul y Wheein.

Según se anunció esta misma semana, Hwasa no iba a estar presente hoy debido a que se lastimó la espalda mientras se preparaba para su comeback en solitario programado para el veintinueve de junio. Honestamente no sé si todavía está en pie o si se va a atrasar.

Siempre es una pena cuando tenemos la oportunidad de ver a un grupo que nos gusta pero no está completo. Pero, kudos para Solar, Moonbyul y Wheein, porque de verdad que se fajaron e hicieron todo lo posible para que notaramos lo menos posible el vacío de Hwasa.

Las chicas cantaron Hip, Gogobebe, Egotistic, Starry Night y Uh Oh Ah Yeh. Esta última canción fue un Fan Featuring Stage con con videos de fans cantando el estribillo en el background.

Yo estaba esperando que hicieran un Special Stage de Queendom, como los otros grupos que participaron en el programa y que se han presentado en KCON:TACT hasta ahora, sobre todo porque MAMAMOO fue el grupo que ganó. Pero no. Igual les recomiendo que vean el video de Destiny, el performance que ellas prepararon para la final.

En cuanto a su Meet & Greet, les cuento que fue por completo caótico y extremadamente divertido. Es precisamente por eso que MAMAMOO es uno de los pocos grupos de nenas que me gusta. Ellas son súper genuinas. No sienten la necesidad de encajonarse en el estereotipo de “female idol groups”. Son súper cute sin parecer fake y sin verse como personajes femeninos de anime con vocesitas annoying y eternas caras de sorpresa. Por eso MAMAMOO son las reinas.

Me reí mucho con las ocurrencias de ellas. Hubo un momento en que Eric prácticamente perdió el control de la entrevista (LOL!). Lo que me recuerda, si todavía no conocen a Eric Nam (por favor, por favor, por favor) escuchen este album. También sigan su podcast K-pop Daebak. Les recomiendo particularmente este episodio con Young K de Day6. Los amo a los dos.

El próximo grupo en subir al escenario fue Nature.

Las chicas cantaron Girls (el sencillo de su último comeback), I’m So Pretty, Bing Bing.

Cuando empecé a escribir este segmento me di cuenta que no tengo absolutamente nada que decir de Nature.

Creo que ya les había mencionado que yo no soy fan de grupos de nenas. En realidad hay muy pocos grupos que me gustan y que tengo en mi playlist, como Twice, TZY, MAMAMOO, y si vamos más lejos, miss A y 2N1.

Es una pena que las chicas de Nature no hayan tenido un Meet & Greet porque esa habría sido una oportunidad para conocerlas un poco.

El próximo grupo en subir al escenario fue N.Flying, otro de los grupos que me moría por ver hoy.

Imagino que, a esta altura del juego, ustedes ya deben saber que yo soy fanática de los grupos de idols. Pero lo que, quizás, no sepan es que soy débil con las bandas. Desde CNBLUE y FT Island hasta Day6, The Rose, ONEWE y, por supuesto N.Flying.

Estos súper talentosos chicos cantaron Oh Really (la canción que no me puedo sacar de la cabeza), Autumn Dream, Sunset y Flower Fantasy. No les niego que me habría gustado que cantaran también Rooftop, pero entiendo que no era un concierto de ellos solos.

Durante su Meet & Greet cantaron una versión acústica en balada de Oh Really y no tengo palabras para describir lo espectacular que fue.

El último grupo en subir al escenario para cerrar el evento con broche de oro fue ASTRO.

Mis hermosos niños cantaron Knock, When You Call My Name, All Night y We Still.

También hicieron dos Special Stages. El primero fue antes del set de ellos y consistió de tres canciones. Primero JinJin con Mad Max. Después Rocky con Have a Good Day. Y terminamos con MJ y Don’t Do It. Me encanta cuando MJ canta trot.

Lo mejor es que al final de la canción, a MJ se le unieron los demás en un caos que imagino que debe ser igual a cuando ellos se van de noraebang.

El segundo Special Stage fue durante su set y me tomó por sorpresa. Ni siquiera en mis sueños más descabellados me había atrevido a esperar un Special Dance Stage con Rocky y Chani (SF9).

OMG! Todavía estoy fangirling. Tan bellos mis niños.

Yo sí sabía que ellos son amigos desde mucho antes que cualquiera de los dos debutara. También es innegable que ambos son magníficos bailarines. Pero, ¿cómo se me iba a ocurrir esto? El tema de hoy definitivamente fue Dream, porque este maravilloso regalo fue un sueño hecho realidad.

No es un secreto que yo soy AROHA full. Porque es que de ASTRO me gusta todo. Las voces son espectaculares, las coreografías son súper tight y precisas, me encantan todas sus canciones y no me hagan empezar a hablar de visuals.

Se me hace muy difícil creer que mañana es el último día de KCON:TACT. Definitivamente voy a extrañar la locura de estos días. Aunque, la buena noticia es que, después de mañana podré retomar todos los dramas que tengo abandonados.

Mientras tanto no puedo esperar a mañana para ver a ATEEZ, Chung Ha, ONEUS y Victon. Let’s KCON:TACT!

KCON:TACT 2020 Summer – Día 6 Hoy fue fue el penúltimo día de KCON:TACT 2020 Summer y, no sé ustedes, pero lo que es a mí ya me está empezando el separation anxiety.

Song of the Week

After the heavy hitters last week . . . well, I was gonna say this week lightened up, but it really didn’t, so here’s a bunch of song reviews.

Honorable Mentions:

I like the contemplative mood of NO.11′s B1. But I think that is more because of the video than the song, which captures the world in such a stark visual tone, and uses the contrast of a blue filter to a yellow well really well. That’s not to say I didn’t like the song, which was simple but good.

A lot of time, a sweet voice is associated with a high tone. But I can’t think of a better descriptor for Han So Ah’s voice than sweet. And her range and control puts her right in my favorite female vocal range. A Day Prior To Moving is really really simple, which lets Han So Ah be the focus as she sings her heart out with enviable control. Also who isn’t a sucker for a key change.

I love Koh Nayoung’s voice, and a lot of her songs. I am glad to add Clumsy to that list. While she doesn’t get to be quite as powerful with her vocals in this case, she fits the sound really well. The beat drop is nice, and I even like the ear worm weaving in and out for most of the song. And in a year where plot based MVs have been pretty uncommon, or incredibly confusing, Clumsy manages to pull it off with a concise plot, interesting directing and pretty good acting all around.

If you need a dance track that only has vocals so that a verse exists, SM’s Station channel has you this week.

I really like the verse of Red Velvet’s Peek-A-Boo, as well as the video, which is creatively creepy. Sadly, the chorus is just a little too now, and a little too not my thing.

If you like trap, New Champ’s got you with Training Zombie. If you don’t like trap, but want to feel what it is like to be on a slight acid trip, you should still watch it. And if nothing else, the rappers all kill their parts. I also enjoy Sleepy towering over everyone in group shots.

There is a song called Boat this week. Listen to the chorus. Then listen to this. Then you will understand why I couldn’t stop laughing.

I don’t really know he purpose of putting kittens on your base drum. But I like it.

Remember those overly confusing plot videos I referenced earlier? Wanna One has one now with Beautiful. They decided in 6 minutes they would have: a reuniting old friend plot, a falling out of those same friends plot, a fight that kills someone plot (which may have caused the friends to grow apart), a boxing plot, and the rest of the members being bffs plot. Oh, and it ends with Sungwoo presumably dying from falling off a staircase, and Daniel losing his boxing match, but still smiling? I just don’t get it. There are makjang dramas less complicated.

Hey, do you remember those songs for charity that had approximately 5 million people in them, and never really made sense, and had a lot of underwhelming melodies? Fly Day is the equivalent at least in the number of artists. They include: Park Ji Young, Sunmi, DIA’s Jooeun and Jaeyeon, Jin Sewoon, Eunhyuk (yes from Suju), NRG, Astro’s Moonbin and MJ, Halo’s Wowoon Jaeyong and Heechan, B.I.G’s Heedo and Geonmin, B.A.P’s Jongup and Youngjae, Deowon, and Kim Johan. The time it took me to write out all those names was the length of the song. Or maybe just how long it will take me to forget it. Oh, and at the very end, they let you know it is for the Olympics, which gives me high hopes of seeing all of them at the opening ceremonies next year. Or maybe the closing. Or maybe both.

I really want to like Swing’s Clock Out. And the chorus is strong with Crush at the helm, and Jay Park’s rap is solid. Hell, Swings himself is solid too. I just can’t bring myself to care. Maybe it’s just a little bit too relaxed?

At least BtoB’s plot video is easy to follow. Way Back Home may be a bit of a boring ballad, but the video passes the standard of having an actual plot that makes sense. I also may have fallen in love with Hyunshik. And by maybe, I mean definitely. Have you seen him smile recently?

If you like your MV actors famous a pretty, Soyou and Sung Si Kyung’s I Still has you covered with a brooding Lee Dong Wook.

I actually like the jazzy sound of Samuel’s Candy. At least, it is a huge step up for me after his debut.

When I see the names Nell and Groovyroom on the same track, I start getting hopeful. And when I started listening to Today, I grew more hopeful. And more hopeful. And it is basically as amazing as I expected, while being totally the opposite of what I would expect from Groovyroom. Basically, listen to it now, and thank me later. It only didn’t win because of how much I love the song AND video of the first place winner.

So, confession time: I write my little write ups as I am listening, and choose a winner at then end, at which point I cut and paste that song’s review into the end. But this week, I can’t because it is referenced in like 3 other reviews, and I like the referencing, so it is staying.

That is to say, Koh Nayoung won. Go back up and read that one if you didn’t read it the first time.
