De koppen zijn catchy maar het verband met de rest van de tekst ontbreekt. Heroïsche cricketprestaties worden poëtisch en uitgebreid beschreven, maar het belangrijkste stukje informatie (de einduitslag) staat nergens. De helft van elke pagina wordt ingenomen door reclames voor mobiele telefoons, onroerend goed, en andere dromen van rijkdom.

Links op de voorpagina vandaag trekt de kop ‘This ancient sea creature prowled the waters over North Dakota’ de aandacht. Het betreft een kort artikel over een nieuw soort mosasaurier die is ontdekt in North Dakota. Het artikel eindigt met de zin ‘The next hearing is on November 22’. In het hele artikel komt geen hearing voor. Als lezer blijf je in verwarring achter, totdat je het human interest verhaal aan de rechterkant van de voorpagina leest: ‘Woman moves HC to have baby with jailed husband’. In Madhya Pradesh verzocht een vrouw de hoogste rechtbank haar man vrij te laten uit de gevangenis. Ze bepleit haar zaak op basis van haar fundamentele recht om kinderen te maken. De staat maakt bezwaar: de vrouw is al in de menopauze, dus kan niet eens kinderen maken. Zij heeft dit tegenargument voorzien en een doktersverklaring van vruchtbaarheid meegenomen. De meest logische volgende stap, besluit rechter Vivek Agrawal, is een commissie van vijf dokters te laten vaststellen of de vrouw nog kinderen kan krijgen. Ook dit artikel eindigt met de zin ‘The next hearing is on November 22’. De typesetter van het eerste artikel zal wel een foutje hebben gemaakt.

Het amateurisme, de onduidelijkheid, en de bizarre aandacht voor obscure rechtzaken zijn komisch, zolang je de krant slechts oppervlakkig leest. Het leidende stuk op de voorpagina, voor The Times het belangrijkste nieuws op 8 november 2023 in een land met bijna 1.4 miljard inwoners, betreft een nieuwe managementopleiding van de universiteit van Allahabad. De opleiding verdient de aandacht niet door een schandaal of het winnen van een belangrijke prijs, maar vanwege haar opleidingsfilosofie. De opleiding is geheel gestoeld op de managementmantras van Lord Krishna, de Hindu god. Je kan er ook de managementtactieken leren van vooraanstaande industrialisten zoals JRD Tata, én Ashtanga yoga. Volgens de coordinator van de opleiding draait het er in de cursus om de studenten Indiase managementideeën mee te geven. Op het eerste gezicht niets mis mee, zou je zeggen. Toch blijft het bij oppervlakkige lezing vreemd, zoveel aandacht voor een opleiding van 10 studenten. Zoals bij zoveel in deze krant - en steeds meer in dit land - draait het in dit artikel om wat er niet staat, om wat niet uitgelegd wordt. De reden dat deze opleiding zo prominent op de voorpagina staat is belangrijker dan de opleiding zelf. Dat is alleen duidelijk als je weet dat de rechts-radicale hindu-nationalistische regering druk uitoefent op de Indiase media - en op The Times of India in het bijzonder. Wat in het artikel niet staat, maar de lezer onbewust wel zo veel mogelijk mee moet krijgen is de superioriteit van de Hindu. De Hindutva, de politieke ideologie waarmee de regering de superioriteit van hindoes rechtvaardigt, is leidend. 

Achter het amateurisme van de typesetter en editor verstopt zich uiterst subtiele en effectieve propoganda.

Shri Venkateshwara University, AV Smart Study Group & Saksham Foundation held a national seminar to support the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Thousands of students from Delhi NCR, Meerut, Amroha, & Moradabad took part in the seminar & felicitation ceremony.

Senior advocates and educationists from across the country believe that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a significant step towards national unity, women’s empowerment, and development.

The Chief Guest Dr AK Verma Senior Officer Education Dep’t. GOI, Pro Chancellor Dr Rajiv Tyagi, & Dr Abhishek Agarwal, Dr Vivek Agrawal Chairman AV Group inaugurated the Uniform Civil Code seminar & felicitation ceremony by lighting a lamp to Goddess Saraswati.

Dr Amit Chauhan of the Saksham Foundation assisted them in inaugurating the event.

In the end, the teachers and students took an oath to support UCC, and we rewarded over 600 students who scored higher than 95 percent with a memento and cash rewards.

We also honored NGO’s Padhchin, Benchmark & Saksham Charitable Foundation by giving them a shawl & memento.

This was to acknowledge their efforts for gathering support for UCC & carrying out educational & social works.

The Group Chairman Dr Sudhir Giri described UCC as the soul of the Constitution & vowed the Venkateshwara Group will run a campaign to garner support for the UCC. He called the honorable PMs UCC scheme a commendable step towards national unity.

Dr Rajiv Tyagi, Pro Chancellor, announced that the Venkateshwara Group will collaborate with other educational institutions to submit a letter with 10 lakh signatures to the President of India supporting UCC.
