Vmin song analysis - Winter in August - Part 4

Since this analysis ended up being so long it has been divided in parts. This is part 4. If you haven’t read part 1, 2 or 3 yet I recommend doing so. This is the final part.

This started as a Spring Day analysis, but it has since grown immensely. I actually rather call it a thematic analysis or something, and while Spring Day is still at the core of it all, I go through many songs and details outside of Spring Day connections.

Taehyung obviously loves Spring Day a lot, and Jimin does too. It might seem weird to make a Vmin analysis out of Spring Day, but I just felt there was enough surrounding things to talk about. Even if they might be coincidence I do personally think they fit it very well with the other song theories I have made, and I have even mentioned Spring Day a few times before. As usual I suggest reading my other song analyses before you get into this one. You can find them all in My masterpost

I am going to talk mostly about connections that Taehyung has made and how he seems to use a lot of similar themes and references, but also things possibly connecting Vmin and Spring Day.

In this part I will focus on Taehyung and things he has mentioned in regards to making songs. Mostly I will speculate about the mixtape and then there is a final summary of this series of posts and the things I found the most interesting to keep in mind.

This is the last part and also the shortest one. I’ve had a lot of fun writing this, so before anything I just want to say thank you all for reading, and hope that you found this analysis worth your time.

7 - Taehyung’s songs not being all he wants to say

This isn’t related to Vmin, but I also want to mention how it seems some songs of Taehyung might be a bit held back, or at least that he might not fully be able to express all he wants in them.

The first example is how Namjoon says this about 4 o’clock in his fan café post:

"Through this song, Taehyung may not be able to express all of his emotions, but I hope that we'll be able to express it as much as possible. I hope it is the closest expression of Taehyung's dawn!"

To me this all sounds like an important moment for Taehyung, with emotions he wanted to express. And Namjoon points out Taehyung might not be able to express "all of his emotions" as read in his fan café post. If this was all I might not react because I can understand it might be difficult for someone else to truly understand and fully express something that comes from someone else. For Stigma Namjoon also said it "sounds like Taehyung has his own story". But of course for most of their solo songs on Wings we didn’t get to hear all that much of the meaning behind them.

But somehow there are a few of these expressions and examples where it really seems like Taehyung might be held back somewhat, perhaps in particular when it comes to songwriting.

There is of course the Christmas song, and that is probably the most direct example. Even more so relevant from a Vmin perspective because it also touches on the subject of romantic expressions between Vmin because of the lyrics being “not fit for two men to sing” and being denied for that reason.

Then we also have the way Taehyung spoke about Sweet Night and Inner Child. 

First in this Vlive with Namjoon, where he said he tends to write what he has felt himself when speaking about Inner Child.

In the same clip Taehyung also said it was difficult to get to express the things he wanted. That the staff had a hard time and that he wasn't able to realize what was in his mind. But it’s very difficult to say if this was about sound or lyrics/expression.

It’s really impossible to make a song analysis for Vmin and not reference other analysis of other songs at this point... But I’ve talked about Sweet Night before in Sweet Night - Song analysis and HERE.

But then he later on also confirmed in an interview that Sweet Night in particular was meant for his mixtape, and thus not meant for the drama. Once again it’s a song that starts from Taehyung’s feelings.

We know that Taehyung likes to write things he has felt, and we know he has sometimes seemingly had struggles to express those things. I don’t know if these other examples (except with Happy Christmas) are more about being unable to express it because he doesn’t know how, but it could also be him not being able to express certain things.

Because then there is the "Tone it down" comment he apparently got to hear from Bang PD which Taehyung mentioned in relation to the making of BE when talking about his own mixtape.

Yoongi brings up a valid question, because while we know that Blue & Grey is a song that talks about Tae’s hardships and that BTS in general can bring up “darker” topics. We don’t know if this was a comment on a particular song or if Tae had several and we have no clue to what kind of details they might want Taehyung to tone down. I do know many (not just Vminies) have wondered if it might be LGBT+ related, but again we only have speculations here.

Speaking of LGBT+ I also can’t help but notice that there are 3 possible LGBT+ references in Taehyung’s songs. The first and most obvious being the lyric reference to the movie Moonlight in 4 o’clock, secondly the cover of Confessions of a mask seemingly being used as inspiration for imagery in Singularity, and thirdly the “You make me want to be a better man” line from Snow Flower being a possible reference from the movie As good as it gets. On top of this there is of course Happy Christmas basically being denied because it’s romantic lyrics that isn’t “fit” for Vmin to sing together.

I think that the music Taehyung makes is very important and personal to him, as he has said as much. I think it says very much that 4 o’clock and Happy Christmas involve Jimin to some extent at least and that Taehyung has many times talked about giving Jimin songs. If Taehyung is held back, it’s understandable that he would get frustrated. I think we even have a direct example with how he expressed the problem with his Christmas song live to us all.

What Taehyung gives us is things he wants to talk about and express, which to me is just another example of why looking at Taehyung and what he says and does kind of brings a bit more weight to any shipping or relationship conversation about him. 

Lyrics like “sharing my fragile truth” or “I'll be back to tell another story of mine” to me in combination with the way he emphasis wanting to be honest and write about things he has felt is just another layer to Taehyung’s songs I find interesting.

What all these examples brings to mind to me as a Vminie is the Vmin Unit interview and Taehyung's "As honestly as possible".

For me it feels like Taehyung is telling us his story and his feelings “as well as he can” by expressing things through his songs, but that there could be reasons he isn’t saying everything he wishes he could say and perhaps even that the company might advise him to keep some things a bit more vague.

8. Taehyung’s mixtape

There are a few interesting aspects about Taehyung’s mixtape and what we might get on it and this section will be more speculation and theories about upcoming things.

First of all we know that Taehyung said there is a song that will be very similar to 4 o’clock on his mixtape (he talked about this the same day as Vmin’s unit interview for Friends). Another translation explains it as more of a “continuation” of 4 o’clock, which is definitely interesting if that’s the case.

Then there is just the general fact that Vmin seem very interested in collaborating and show a lot of interest in each other’s music in general. 

We also got Taehyung mention he is writing a song for sleepless nights when he had a conversation with an ARMY on weverse May 4th 2020, meaning after the release of Sweet night but before Blue and Grey.

We did also get a snippet of the song “Sleep” on April 21st 2021 (at 4.24 am) so that could also have been the song he was talking about. Regardless Taehyung is really using this theme a lot.

We also got some interesting things from Taehyung which people wonder if it might have to do with his mixtape and a new song. It started on April 1st when Tae came back to Weverse after a while and, amongst others, commented on this post by an ARMY.

This is a very small detail, but the ARMY mentions Jimin as “a soft sunny spot of a spring day” and Taehyung as “the gentle breeze that brushes against your skin...” and Taehyung’s reply uses spring flowers (cherry blossoms) fluttering in the breeze. To be fair this is a reach, and it wouldn’t be weird if Tae didn’t think about Jimin’s role being in spring at all.

Then he tweeted about a song called Loop (by Peakboy) along with some cherry blossoms and a new expression.

Most interesting here is perhaps the line about “I am starting to feel more comfortable in the darkness.” As we know Taehyung seems to find the night sweet now, and this is another example that might point at it being something that has changed over time.

Then there is the "I flower purple you", which seems to be Taehyung's new name for cherry blossoms (or he just didn't have any better emoji). And if so the possibility of what that love means and how it can connect to spring and possibly Jimin (through his “Not Tata. It’s the face of I purple you” comment).

So we have the purple flower on the cover of Snow Flower and then Tae using Cherry blossoms together with the new tag. I am just saying that if Spring is a possible topic for a song on Taehyung’s album, I will be very curious to see what it says.

We also have Jimin drawing a Cherry blossom tree on his shoes in ITS. If Taehyung has been thinking about adding a song to his mixtape which uses references to spring or even more Cherry blossoms in particular, it’s possible Jimin was perhaps thinking of this song while choosing his motif. But this is definitely a reach and likely has no bigger meaning except that Jimin finds Cherry blossoms pretty.

And just recently at 4 o’clock in the morning on August 27th 2021 we had Jimin post “I miss you every single day” which does match with the lyrics of Spring Day “보고싶다”, though I definitely think this is too common to mean anything.

Still, there are a lot of small things to find, and either I am just finding things because I am looking, or there might be something to it. There are just a lot of matching things at this point, and I don’t know if they all can be random coincidences even though I am sure some of them are.

I don’t know if Taehyung will release his mixtape, or if he does if it will be what he wanted or at least started originally, but I hope he can release and sing the songs he wants to sing. Either way I will look forward to whatever he decided to share and am curious what stories he will sing about next.

9 - Summary

Spring Day was released in February 2017 as an addition to the Wings album on You never walk alone. Meaning it also comes very soon after Lie and Stigma which both have these themes of being in pain and feeling bad about themselves. There are also a lot of songs from Taehyung in particular (but also Jimin) about wanting to be together with someone but either having to wait or being unsure about the future. The time of release is the beginning of 2017, more precisely in February which was also a very good time for Vminies, not the least since we got the Soulmate claim. It was in other words during the Spring Day/Not today era where Vmin first claimed each other as soulmates in public.

If we put together that Taehyung both references the scene in 4 o'clock which Jimin is linked to, and uses scenes from Spring Day for Scenery it's possible Taehyung has done these references because they have personal meaning to him. And it's possible that since one of those references (4 o’clock) might be connected to Jimin that the other one (Spring Day) might be as well. Again, keep in mind the lyrics of Spring Day and in particular how it includes "you're my best friend" and how Taehyung has also used “Are you my best friend?” in the lyrics of Sweet Night which is also romantic.

Now of course this is all under the assumption that Winter Bear and Scenery too could be Vmin songs, but even if they aren’t at the very least it does seem to be examples of Spring Day being very important and inspiring for Taehyung. He references Spring Day directly for his own promotion of both Scenery and Winter Bear and considering the lyrics and themes I do think the songs could have connections through inspiration at least. What we end up with are these:

Spring Day being referenced with the release promo for Winter Bear.

The possible scene between Vmin in the park from 4 o’clock being referenced in Scenery (also the release time of the teaser), meaning in extension Spring Day references to Scenery could have a connection to the same person.

Vmin both having a certain love for the winter season and night which they have used in their songs.

Friends including "Cold winters" as something they have gone through together.

Friends including them saying they want to stay together forever.

An interesting timeline with how Vmin was during Spring Day era and what songs Tae wrote around that time.

Many of the expressions in Taehyung’s songs matching how he talks and thinks about Jimin.

12 out of 13 songs having either the theme of Night/Day or Winter. And 4 out of these songs having confirmed direct links between Vmin.

As usual there are a lot of things in the details that are much more difficult to know if they have meaning or not, but at the very least there are many things that fits with the narrative that Spring Day means a lot to Taehyung and that he could be influenced by the themes and how they also match well with Jimin in particular.

If I would sum it up with Vmin as characters in this ongoing narrative in their songs it would look something like this:

Taehyung's perspective: It's difficult and he wonders what the future holds. He's unsure and doesn't know if he can pull Jimin closer even if he wants to and even if Jimin seems to feel the same it seems like a double edged sword. Being hidden or them not being able to be together as more than friends is something he struggles with. He wants to express himself and he tries through his songs. But even if they have each other now and he seems to gradually get more used to the "Night/Winter" over time, it is a constant struggle. He wishes that he was stronger, but Jmin being there with him helps him.

Jimin's perspective: We don't have as many songs from Jimin, so perhaps he doesn’t have as much of a need to express himself outwards in general. He is better at being ok with what they have, or at least at seeming like it. 'I say that it's all okay. But maybe that's not what I truly think.'. He can "sleep" early on and he smiles even though the smiles aren't always happy, and in contrast Taehyung can't. Basically what Jimin is doing is being better at hiding it. But Jimin also wants Taehyung to be his own light and night. In it all he also promises to stay and that Taehyung is his and expresses how he wants to be together when BTS is over.

I guess you could say that winter has been a hibernation period for their relationship. In particular for Jimin. But now they can both enjoy even this period because unlike earlier they are waiting together, they have reached each other, they can hold hands and give each other warmth when they need it. They know where they stand and have mostly reconciled with the thought of waiting to be together properly. Even if it's always going to be difficult.

I might be taking some of the lyrics a bit too literally. Either way it seems both of them are more ok with the current situation compared to before. To me if there is a Vmin perspective here it seems to slowly change with time in how they express it but that the want and wish to be together has always been there. It also seems possible that finally after all this time and uncertainty some things have become easier, and that there might even be change towards something even better in the future.

I’ve been working on this theory for a long time. Like I said, the original plan was to post on February 13th for the anniversary. But it was a lot bigger and took more time than expected. I also didn’t expect Taehyung to give me new reasons to raise my eyebrows. One being this new song 'Sleep' with it’s lyrics, and the other being the cherry blossoms he posted about. I am very curious to see what we might get for KTH1 when it comes out.

Spring is coming.

(Ok sorry for the joke but I am actually scared if Spring would be coming in regards to Taehyung's song narrative. Way more scary than Winter coming if you ask me.)

Like. Boy. I don't doubt that you know your Tae. But I think he knows himself more. lol At least in terms of what he considers to be spicy or not. Don't worry. I'm not going to pick on you (or assume that you two aren't close/best friends) because you can't gauge his spice tolerance with 100% accuracy. If it was that easy to falter my belief in your friendship, I wouldn't be here lmao

~00:14:35 - Now that he's had some food, Hobi decides to read the comments. He reads one comment, but claims his face causes an unstable connection. lol

~00:14:50 - Jimin thinks Hobi's unstable face is hilarious. I assume he had to have made a face or something, but he's off camera, so we don't get to see it. Tae thinks it's hilarious that Chim finds it so hilarious, and I also think he gets a glimpse at whatever Hobi was doing lmao Even so, he was enjoying watching Jimin laugh so much that it took a full three seconds before he looked at Hobi. Then of course has to look back at Jimin lying on the floor (still laughing, as we see when he comes back up). Talk about smitten. lol

~00:16:55 - Intense staring between Hobi and Chim. Tae glances at Hobi before he starts laughing, making the other two laugh lol They don't get what's so funny, but they're cute anyway. The laughing continues for a good while, but unfortunately I can't understand what's so funny :( So oof...nothing much to say about it. But then they're joking about the names of Korean foods in English, and continue laughing lol

~00:20:40 - There seems to be some more Vmin telepathy here. Like Tae could feel Chim's gaze on him. I suppose it's possible he could see Jimin staring at him from his peripheral, but eh. I dunno. It seemed more like he just felt the stare lol

(probably. lol. no really.) It just so happens that this was his face the instant Chim went to read the comments, and I thought it was funny. So screenshot. And silly little analysis because I wanna be funny sometimes, but obviously admit when things are clearly taken out of context like this.)

And then maybe it looks like Tae holds back a smile if you wanna see it (if you're looking for v/hope is what I'm saying).

~00:21:30 - While Jimin was up reading the comments, he says that the Armies keep asking the boys to marry them. Tae then asks the Armies if they want to marry them. Chim looks back at Tae, and Hobi looks at Chim. After looking at Chim, he then looks at Tae. We don't get to see Jimin's expression here, but let's play a little lol. Maybe Jimin thought Tae asked in a cool/smooth way, so he looked back at him. Or maybe he didn't want Tae to say that, and his look back was a warning for Tae to watch it. They do have to be careful a little bit about what they say, after all. Maybe one of them is getting married? (or is married?) or maybe they got married? since they're in vegas lmfao (takes the opportunity to drop this golden vmin fic in here for you guys) uwu lol okno. I can't say that. People will attack my askbox lmao. Whatever it was (and it being nothing is also a possibility) I can't begin to shoot out accurate guesses probably lol

~00:21:53 - Jimin decides that the Armies don't have anything to say either, so he goes back to sit down.

~00:23:28 - Ugh. I have never wanted to be Jimin so badly. To sit right there next to Hobi while he's looking like that? lmao Only joking, but also not. Sorry. I'll keep fangirling over Hobi to a minimum lol maybe

Back to the friendship thing, they seem surprised that Army will pretty much support them no matter what. I mean. Come on. Of course we will. We're like family lmao

~00:30:00 - Tae wants to know how long everyone has been an Army. Ey. If anyone reads this analysis this far and cares to, let me know! How long have you all been Army? Me? I've listened to BTS from the beginning, and I considered myself a fan since I was watching all of their content. However, I don't claim the fanbase name until I actually participate with other fans, and it was 2015 (or the HYYH era) in which I really solidified my identity as an Army.

~00:31:35 - They talk about Jimin's OST. They admit that they've already gotten to hear it, which is a privilege of them being part of the same group. And friends. But anywho. Let's talk about Jimin wanting to try new things and branching off and doing his own thing. He's always been the sort that says he want to collaborate "with his members" before doing anything with other people, and I have a lot of respect for him for caring about his members so much. That being said, I really am so happy to see him building his confidence and working on projects like this. His first song to be released on an official album was Friends. I've never tried to unlock a hotel room door before (to where no card key is needed to enter).

Kook insists that he stays and finishes the live with them since he started it with them, and Kook actually ends up staying to the end, too.

Overall, this was a very entertaining live. I'm disappointed that Kook wasn't a part of it until approximately the last 10 minutes, but oof. It was so good to seem them just interacting and talking and telling stories. And doing the little quiz thing that I didn't time stamp in here, but it happens when Hobi and Jimin are in their own little world together with Tae looking through Weverse.

First of all, I do not believe in tarot reading and the reason is this. These days, there are a lot of fake people who will mislead others for their own benefit. They will tell you what you want to hear as long as it gets them more views and likes on you tube or on their blog. I have read lots of tarot readings about Bts and the funny thing is that not a single one of them drew the same conclusions. They always have different meanings especially when it comes to shipping.

Take for instance now, you will ask one tarot reader if Taekook is real. They will tell you that they are and that they have been in a relationship for years and have been hiding their feelings from the public. At the same time, ask another reader if jikook is real and they will tell you the same thing that they have been in a relationship for a long time also. Same thing with Yoonmin and other pairings. So what is the truth? There isn't because there are a lot of biasness. People just want to believe what they want to believe so these people tell you what you generally know but will twist it in a way that makes it look believable.

It is very few that might be actually legit but those few come from older more experienced tarot readers. People with many years of experience. Yet even with that, the outcome isn't a hundred percent sure because human beings are very unpredictable.

Ultimately, I do not believe in tarot readings especially when it comes to human emotions. I'd rather take a look at a situation and critically analyse it. I rely a lot on others interactions, my senses and my feelings rather than on what someone else says about a group of people they might not even know. They can say a bunch of things and people will just buy it because they desperately want to believe it. There are so many predictions especially when it comes to shipping.

I just read the post which you where talking about and I'm not really surprised because it's something i had already deduced even without reading a tarot card or something. if you are very observative and you take a look at vmin's relationship, trace their history, you will notice how things gradually changed between them. How there was an awkwardness between them from 2016 till 2018. And then you will ask yourself, why is this friendship of theirs so complicated?

We will roughly examine Vmin's history and check the possibility of them developing feelings for each other. Let me remind you, i mentioned possibility meaning it's not a certainty and so, we'll start from the beginning.

We all know how their friendship began. High school best friends who did everything together. Went to school together. They where basically inseparable. But then, they got into a kpop group with six other boys whom they where already acquainted with.

Where things going to remain the same between these boys? Definitely not. Things where going to change. They where going to find themselves drifting apart from each other whether they wanted to or not.

Taehyung has always been a social butterfly. He likes meeting a lot of people and trying out new things. It was due to this that him and Jimin even became close. For a while, they had each other and probably Jimin was so used to getting Taehyung's attention. In 2014, Taehyung posted a pic holding hands with Jimin. The caption on the picture was let's keep going for a long time, i only have you. If you ask me, these are very strong words. It basically means that no matter what happens, your bond with each other will be unbreakable. You'll be friends for ever. The person whom such promise is made to will never forget it. We are sure Jimin would never forget that. They have both used strong words to describe their relationship with each other.

But their friendship wasn't perfect. They often fought. Jimin could attest to that. I don't have the clip here but Jimin personally revealed that him and Taehyung had once fought in the park but they eventually made up immediately after because they find it difficult keeping grudges with each other.

Moving forward, 2016 was sort of like the breaking point for BTS. They started to get more recognition with hit songs such as Blood sweat and tears, Fire. Their horizon is broadening. Things where bound to change for all the members of BTS. It was also around 2016 that Taehyung starred in a drama series titled Hwarang. During filming, he developed a very strong friendship with the rest of the cast popularly called Hwarang. Over time, they bonded and Taehyung began to hang out a lot with them.

There is something i want to add here, Jimin no doubt felt jealous during this time not only because Taehyung was hanging out with other people. There was one more important reason why i think he was upset. Now, Jimin had hyped up Taehyung's drama series showing his support for his friend such that there was a time Yoongi even made fun of him because of that only for Taehyung to begin professing love for his Hwarang hyungs.

Jimin and the rest of the members where upset about it but Jimin took it especially hard and Taehyung found it funny at the time. Jimin's anger was the fact that Taehyung always said I love you to the Hwarang members but never to Bts. It probably left him feeling like Taehyung didn't value them as much anymore. Taehyung responded that he felt awkward saying such a thing to Bts because he considers them as his family. Here's an interview vmin had in 2017. If you read the excerpt below, you will find that this indeed caused some of rift in their relationship.

Now, here is where i think something happened. Because Taehyung wanted to try new things didn't mean that he was getting bored of being with Jimin. He had just always been someone with a big heart who loves having a social network around him. Jimin has been well aware of this. He knows what Taehyung is like but then, i guess Jimin started feeling like he had to be a priority in Taehyung's life thus things probably started to happen. Probably, Jimin wanted him to be more affectionate. Taehyung starts getting stuffy due to Jimin's clinginess. They probably argued a lot over this then the push and pull thing started. Taehyung starts getting confused and decides to become independent from Jimin to give himself space from him. Jimin is the type who tries to mantain peace. He might have tried to ignore the tension going on but Taehyung can't do that which causes a strain in their relationship. Why i do believe this might have happened is because these two don't just see each other as only friends. They see each other as being more than that so therefore they take each other very seriously and they would definitely get into lots of arguments when they feel one of them is taking their friendship for granted. You can see this from one of BTS interviews but then again, they where asked this same question some time later. We can see that Vmin's answers are totally different from the previous ones which clearly showed that there was a change in their relationship.

2016 marked a change in vmin where they probably started to realize that their relationship wasn't just the normal one. They had to determine what it was they really wanted. Taehyung was probably more affected by this than Jimin which could be why he was the one who decided to draw a line between them. This had nothing to do with Big hit or the other members. It was just between vmin. Probably, the other members where even unaware of what was going on. I want to add here that Jimin later released his first solo song later that year titled lie and when you listen to the song or listen to the lyrics, you will get the feeling that Jimin was in pain, trying to run away from a never ending cycle of torment brought about by his lies. (I have an analysis of this one). Spring day was released around this time also and i also have a feeling it involved vmin. I think the death of Taehyung's grandmother sort of recovered their bond. Jimin was really a comfort to Taehyung at this time.

2017 seemed a better year for them. Though the group started getting busier and more popular, you would notice a change in the relationship between vmin. They started getting more expressive in their feelings. The hand holding, the I love you handsigns began. The hugs and clinginess. Take a good look at vmin isac in 2017 and you will understand what i mean. Totally different from their past behaviors in previous isac.

They obviously patched things up between themselves. Their relationship improved for a while. but the vlives and the selcas stopped. They also started doing independent things, having their separate group of friends.

There was still a boundary between them. However, it was also at this time that they started to release songs. Taehyung began with his song 4: o'clock which he released with RM and that song was inspired by a feeling Taehyung had when he was waiting for Jimin at a park. Serendipity could be about vmin but it wasn't a song Jimin wrote by himself which is why i'm a bit confused about it but there was some element of his own emotions inside. However, when the music video got released, i was a bit convinced that the song had something to do with the relationship between vmin (i also have my own analysis about this) It was at this time that they took up the representation of sun and Moon as depicted in DNA, serendipity by Jimin, singularity by Taehyung. Let's not forget Taehyung's bon voyage letter to Jimin and how he cried so much signifying that they had both gone through a lot in their friendship. Jimin's response to it clarifies the whole thing, even when he added that no one else not even the members would understand why Taehyung cried except for him or how Jimin himself felt after reading Taehyung's letter. The trip helped them to understand their feelings for each other. Pretty deep if you ask me. Watch the video for your self and you'll understand what I'm getting at.

However, 2018 was where a big challenge set in. Their popularity skyrocketed to the max. All eyes where on the group both locally and internationally. They all started to get more and more separated from each other. Their private lives was intruded upon especially due to their documentary burn the stage: the movie where they had to constantly be recorded. They also started to have separate rooms whenever they lodged into hotels. I guess it was at this time they all started having their separate apartments. They weren't together all the time like before. Much was demanded from this group and this affected Jimin a lot because he talked about the feeling of loneliness he was experiencing at that time and Jimin isn't someone who can stay alone. According to him, he couldn't rely on the other members because they too where going through the same thing he was going through. It was also at this time Jimin started to write his own song promise. It was the first song he had personally written. He revealed that the song was about himself but there where clearly two characters in that song. Jimin and an unknown person.

No one would have thought that the group was considering disbanding at that time. It wasn't until 2019 when receiving their dasaeng that Jin revealed this secret. We can only imagine how bad things where for them to consider disbanding. It was also at this time that Taehyung's grandfather died and it was also here that we see the closeness and bond between Jimin and Taehyung especially during bon voyage Malta where Jimin did everything he could to comfort Taehyung. I think the death of Taehyung's grandfather sort of restored their bond. Jimin was still writing promise around that time. When the song released, he revealed that at first, the song was a dark song but later, he found it difficult to complete it because things started to get better in the group. Are we starting to see the pattern?

On October, Taehyung revealed the Christmas song he had wanted to release with Jimin but which was eventually rejected due to the lyrics. Things had improved so well between them that Taehyung wanted to sing a song with Jimin and when he couldn't do that, he couldn't help unburdening his anguish with Army. He was clearly upset about it.

Jimin released promise as a free song on sound cloud meaning it was a song he sang from the heart. It wasn't for his personal gain. What was strange was that Jimin released promise on December 31st Taehyung's birthday. He released it exactly after midnight and guess who took the pictures for promise cover. Taehyung himself. Are we still seeing the pattern? Exactly one month later, Taehyung released his own solo titled Scenery on January 31st and on listening to the lyrics one will get the indication like he's trying to woo someone. Jimin was particularly hyped about the song that he accidentally spilled about it even before it's release. On August 2019, Taehyung also released his song winter bear. Plenty of indications also point that the song is about Jimin.

Anyway, 2016 till 2018 was a challenging time not only for Vmin but for the rest of the members but it was a challenge that was necessary to create a better bond between Vmin as we can clearly see in 2019 and even from the beginning of this year. The love and affection between vmin is obvious. There are still challenges but i think they have learned over time on how to deal with their differences. Like I've said before, I do not believe that they're dating but they know how they feel about each other. They are aware of that but there are priorities and it's just going to be weird and uncomfortable for everyone involved if they give in to such feelings.

This is just my own speculations concerning the relationship between vmin. I don't need a tarot reading to clarify this much. Though, it's only a speculation, we have to admit that it sort of adds up. This is only a general take on my opinion concerning Vmin and the possibility of a relationship between them so it's not really an analysis. Vmin song analysis - Winter in August - Part 3

Since this analysis ended up being so long it has been divided in parts. This is part 3. If you haven’t read part 1 or part 2 yet I recommend doing so.

This started as a Spring Day analysis, but it has since grown immensely. I actually rather call it a thematic analysis or something, and while Spring Day is still at the core of it all, I go through many songs and details outside of Spring Day connections.

Taehyung obviously loves Spring Day a lot, and Jimin does too. It might seem weird to make a Vmin analysis out of Spring Day, but I just felt there was enough surrounding things to talk about. Even if they might be coincidence I do personally think they fit it very well with the other song theories I have made, and I have even mentioned Spring Day a few times before. I am going to talk mostly about connections that Taehyung has made and how he seems to use a lot of similar themes and references, but also things possibly connecting Vmin and Spring Day.

Summary

In this part I will go through the most common themes in Spring Day and Vmin’s songs and how they match each other and how it could possibly also relate to the way Vmin are or talk about each other.

Obviously a lot of the themes are things that could be important to them on individual levels, but I do think there are a lot of these topics that fit especially well with how Vmin’s relationship looks like. As you know we have a lot more material from Taehyung, but let’s look through how often the same themes have been used by him (and Jimin) and why I feel they work well for Vmin in particular.

5 - Overlapping themes

I don’t know if the songs are about Jimin, but it does seem quite possible that there is someone that Taehyung is singing about and longing for that he has included in many of his songs in various ways from 2017 and onwards. It also seems likely his feelings are romantic. He could be writing to ARMY or change platonic feelings into romantic ones for the songs, but to me it seems likely to be Taehyung's own feelings considering the consistency in theme. Of course we also know that there are personal stories to several of the songs, and that he has confirmed that he tends to write about his own feelings.

I know many of the themes and uses of lyrics also exist in other BTS songs, like Life goes on for example. I also know there are direct references to their difficulties during the pandemic and that they have said these songs are for ARMY etc. It’s very possible all these connections are there as a personal story of coming to terms with fame or other struggles Tae might have because of being in BTS and now he is starting to finally get used to it and be happy with his situation. There are many ways songs can be interpreted, but once again I am simply focusing on the things that could be there, and I am not saying it all has to exclusively be about Vmin even if it would end up proving to partly be about Vmin.

I am sorry for the song section, because I know it’s been long and perhaps a bit repetitive (blame Taehyung). I hope you got the main parts, which is basically the winter/spring, night/day, longing and waiting in combination with both romantic songs and songs about friends and even about Vmin in particular. There were probably things I could have added or elaborated more on, but I really want to stick to Spring Day and the themes as much as possible and not criss-cross between too many of the songs (even though I know I failed and strayed quite a bit).

So looking at the main themes we can find in Spring Day and that cross over to many other songs we have: Longing, Friends, Spring/Winter, Darkness/Light, Morning/Night, Sleeping, Flowers (and flower road), Asking someone to wait/stay and Holding hands. 

I made a spreadsheet, and it might be a bit hard to see and understand, but the first column is Spring Day and then I go through Vmin’s songs in order from 4 o’clock to “Sleep”. If the color is green it includes a particular theme/word. The yellow means it’s implied. The purple is simply to indicate the songs already have some sort of confirmed connection between Vmin.

(The grey for the themes of snow and holding hands in Scenery and Friends is because it’s not in the lyrics, but still present because of the sound of walking in snow/the cover and Vmin’s performance of Friends including holding hands).

I could probably have made it a bit more clear by adding the themes that are already connected into one, for example Night/Day/Dawn/Sleeping as only one or Spring/Winter/Cold/Warm/Snow as another as I think including even one of these words can often seem to imply similar things.

What I found the most interesting is that if we look at how many songs have at least one of the themes with spring/winter or day/night out of these 13 songs by Taehyung and Jimin it’s every song except Serendipity (though one could argue Serendipity has morning/night in the MV). Most of these songs are obviously Taehyung’s, and we can see that winter and night/sleep in particular are used quite often.

Winter 6 (+1), Cold 5 (+1), Warmth 4 (+1), Snow 3 (+2), Morning/Day 4, Night 8, Sleep/Sleepless 6. (The + indicates a reference rather than a direct mention, like Christmas love not actually including the word winter.)

So the meanings and themes used in Spring Day are something that Taehyung seems to like to use. All of these themes come back in many of the other songs we have looked through. Again, I don’t know if it’s simply these themes being common, or ones that they like to use generally, or if it’s part of a full narrative that is inspired by the same feelings. We do know BTS and Bit Hit like to use some of these themes, but since most of these songs are by them and might represent their own feelings I still say it could be relevant as a personal narrative. I mean, we know it’s personal for Taehyung, and once again it might only be about the things he has mentioned, but I still think it also fits with this possible narrative of romantic feelings.

Each theme is definitely present in Taehyung’s (and to some extent Jimin’s) writing and adding the context of Spring Day’s way to use them and the possibly romantic lyrics of some of the songs I felt it was worth talking about.

I kind of also want to highlight three themes in particular because of how often Vmin relates to them by doing things in real life. One being night/sleeping, another being holding hands and lastly asking the other to stay.

1. Wishing each other good night and sleeping

There is an almost weird amount of times that Vmin has wished each other good night on various public platforms. All the way from Taehyung's tweet of kissing Jimin's doll with the caption “good night Jimin” to the shared bed selca along with the "song to sleep to" recommendation "Nothing" that Taehyung posted on July 3rd 2020 when they were filming In the Soop.. Basically they just seem to talk about sleep and telling each other good night a lot, and I could make a pretty good collection of moments.

Vmin even managed to wish each other good night exactly one year apart on weverse. And as mentioned earlier the day of Spring Day's release they were up at night (a sleepless night) and wished each other good night on the Vlive chat.

Winter Bear in particular includes the line "I wish you a good night" and we know Jimin even listened to it every night to fall asleep. He also spoke about how he fell asleep to it because it was so good and how he saw the bears and Taehyung in his dream.

We also know Vmin seems to have a preference to sleep together when they get to choose themselves and even that Taehyung spoke about how he asked Jimin to come to him to sleep during the Billboard Vlive.

This is of course not saying it has to mean something, but considering how often sleep seems to come up as a topic in the songs and how Taehyung also seems to want to "Lay down on" this other person in his Sleep snippet I felt it was relevant enough. Even more so since it's something that they have seemingly shown more and been more open about over time.

As I mentioned Taehyung even involved Jimin when asked about a song to sleep to, as he recommended the song Nothing for sleepless nights and let us know it was Jimin’s pick.

Even enjoying night scenery together seems to be a thing. With them watching the stars together every night in Hawaii, Jimin wanting to show Taehyung the red moon and the night view in Malta and even the image of the night in Seoul for the "I only have you tweet" being a scenery Taehyung doesn't want them to forget.

When hearing Taehyung’s songs and lines like "Day and night, I think of you" there really is only one person that comes to mind with the way Taehyung over the years seems to mention Jimin every chance he gets. Again, that time Taehyung replied to a post on fan café asking "why aren't you sleeping?" with "so that Jimin can dream" is just one out of many oddly fitting real moments that work with this narrative in Taehyung’s songs.

I can’t go through all the examples, and I am sure Tae has talked about sleeping in regards to others and even told them good night, but it really happens very often with Jimin in particular.

2. Holding hands

As for holding hands I personally think it's evidently a "Vmin thing" as it's something they do a lot, and something that has increased over the years. I also argue it’s something they might have been a bit unsure about at first, but that they now can do very openly, so they do. 

The timing of some of their hand holding is also something I can't completely ignore. For example choosing to hold hands during Make it right as the songs go "This eternal night with no end in sight, It's you who gifted me the morning, Can I now hold that hand?". 

This of course feels quite fitting considering the amount of times the lyrics of Taehyung's songs ask to hold hands and also with one person bringing hope in the difficult times they go through.

For fun I also couldn’t leave out Taehyung being obsessed with Jimin’s hands being cold in Run along with the line “Please hold me with your cold, gentle hands” from Snow Flower.

Like, Vmin really fit the line “I want to go to the other side of Earth, holding your hand “. I could go on with a lot of examples, but the main point is really that Vmin hold hands a lot, and they started doing it more and more until the point that it’s now very normal to see it. Just as in Spring Day they reached for each other, and now as they are together in winter they get comfort and warmth from each other.

3. Asking someone to stay and wanting to be together

Now for the theme of staying and wanting to be together of course it could be platonic, but we have seen Vmin express it a few times. Of course the most obvious example is from Friends. I think it's interesting because asking someone to stay kind of has a slightly romantic tone to it and Jimin has even said he knows the members might not be together forever in Bon Voyage 4. And yet Taehyung is a person he wants by his side after everything is over. I think in many small moments and expressions between them over the year we can see how they think about things they want to keep doing together and how much they hope to be together for a long time.

This photo that Taehyung posted, of him and Jimin holding hands with the night scenery behind them, kind of sums up all three of these points in one.

We also have to remember that 5 of these songs have confirmed connections between Vmin already, and that’s not including Taehyung singing about falling for a best friend.

Other common topics that we can find in Taehyung's songs that fit with how he talks about Jimin are:

Smiling (smile awards and many other examples)

Being bright (Festa 2019 Sun drawing etc.)

Being warm/bringing warmth (Jimin is the warmest person I know)

Being too good to be true (Perfect until the end/I can't believe I fought with an angel like Jimin)

Making Taehyung happy and helping him in a difficult time

I’ve tried to focus it down to the main things I’ve seen a lot between Vmin, because I could probably dig up many examples just because of the amount of moments we have. For example though it might be a bit of a stretch, even something like Taehyung’s line “You make me want to be a better man” from Snow Flower could have some similarities to how he has mentioned that Jimin helps him grow.

There are just a lot of moments and examples with Vmin that at least to me fits very well with the expressions Taehyung likes to use in his songs. Not to mention how Taehyung keeps emphasising on how Jimin is special, even among the other members.

And since it can work both ways (using expressions from songs or take inspiration from expressions), there are also plenty of moments outside of their own songs that come to mind as well, but this post could go on forever if I talked about them all. For example the lyrics to Mikrokosmos and how Taehyung points at Jimin (making him flustered) as they sing this together:

You got me I breathe while looking at you I got you Inside those pitch black nights (Shine)

Taehyung pointing at Jimin while singing about having a person in his dark night doesn't have to be lyrics written by Taehyung for him to possibly feel and express it towards Jimin in that moment. The narrative however fits very well with that we see in many of Taehyung's own songs of having a person that helps him through the night.

Before we move on to more substantial things I want to go on a bit of a tangent if we consider winter (and Christmas) being important for Taehyung in this metaphorical sense and it possibly being related to Jimin.

When releasing notes for Army Room, what Taehyung said brought up three common themes all at once. And while I know this is a reach and probably is over analyzing, let’s just look at what he said:

“When working on music, I've found that the same song can give a dramatically different feeling depending on how you listen to it. I listen with a bluetooth speaker and CD but I've heard that a record has the best kind of sound so that's why I wanted to put a turntable in ARMY's room. It would be even better if you can listen to a song with someone else. Listening to the same song together is like sharing emotions. Why don’t you give it a spin when you invite friends to your room? I think I hear jazz from Sammy Davis Jr. or Frank Sinatra from this turnable perfect to give warmth on a cold winter day.” (Video)

He mentions inviting friends to his room and he talks about music giving warmth on a cold winter day. He also says listening to the same song is like sharing emotions… He also specifically used the word “Chingu”. Considering the fact that Vmin both love to listen to music together and has shared songs like “Nothing” we might also add these small pieces as Taehyung possibly having Jimin in mind. Or at the very least that Vmin sharing headphones and music just became even sweeter.

To sum it up, for me, most of the songs match very well with how Vmin has changed and how Taehyung and Jimin talk about each other and it's difficult to ignore lines like "are you my best friend?" being included in Sweet Night when Taehyung has said Jimin is his one and only best friend many times and with how they released Friends right before Sweet Night.

A lot of the themes have matched with Vmin’s relationship and topics and descriptions that Taehyung has used for Jimin many times. Of course many of them might be coincidence, just a moment amongst years of material to look through. But to me at least there seems to be a consistency and a lot of more examples from Taehyung towards Jimin than towards any other person we know. On top of that Taehyung’s clear bias makes it difficult to think of another person that might match all of his songs’ themes and descriptions so well.

6 - Other connections to Vmin

Now let's go to some of the other small things surrounding Spring Day that actually might tie Vmin to it besides the actual songs.

First of all the day Spring Day was released they were up at night talking to each other around 4-5 am, telling each other to sleep. And Taehyung said he couldn't sleep because he was so excited about the release.

This becomes a bit more interesting as the song itself also has the lyrics "How long do I have to wait. And how many sleepless nights do I have to spend. To see you (to see you)."

So we literally have Vmin spending a sleepless night together (though apart) on Vlive before the release of Spring Day, further wishing each other a good night (which as we know they have done quite a lot over the years and over various public forums). 

Less than a month before the release of Spring Day Taehyung went to Japan for some Hwarang work, and Jimin wrote a post on fan café where he said he missed Taehyung-oppa. This is perhaps just coincidence, but it does also fit the lyrics of Spring Day. The two friends are apart and the song goes "I miss you, saying this makes me miss you even more" and in general how Vmin around that time seemed to spend more time apart than they were previously used to.

Taehyung also released a clip of him singing Jimin's part in Spring Day with the text "I love you ARMY" and two purple hearts. 

We also have Hobi reference Spring Day as a response to Vmin jumping into each other's arms and rolling around in the snow in BV4. Asking if they are filming a movie and jokingly calling it "Spring Day".

So you know, the happy ending of the two friends finally reaching each other and being together after all their waiting on different sides of the earth. Hobi sees it too.

On top of this we also have Jimin call cherry blossoms the "chingu flower" due to how the letter can be read if translated separately. (354) [ENG] 190824 [BANGTAN BOMB] BTS English class - BTS (방탄소년단) - YouTube. It seems to be a pun, but still.

In Spring Day the cherry blossoms are a symbol of Hope that "spring has finally come".

Both of Vmin also referenced the Spring Day lyrics in Winter Package 2021, quoting "past the edge of the cold winter..." Likely in this case as a message for ARMY to endure and wait for them in the difficult time of the pandemic. Still, they were the only two to quote Spring Day when the theme was to say something about “cold winter”.

These things might seem few and small, but since we have a lot of things in the songs that could match well with the lyrics of Spring Day I just find it interesting that there are common themes with Vmin and their relationship as well. 

I also think the timeline and the way Vmin has changed and also the metaphors used could match well for a complicated or hidden relationship. For example the theme of night and morning and of course winter. 

Again many of the songs seem to now view both night and winter as more good than bad while also longing for even better days to come. In my very first song analysis I spoke about something similar in regards to my interpretation of 4 o'clock. It's possible this Night and Winter is all they can have, but they are grateful they can be together in some form at least. Even if they are waiting for each other in the sense of being together properly. Hence things like "Would it be alright if I pulled you closer" or "when the cheers die down, stay" or “May I lay my body on you tonight” and the hesitation and worry we see throughout many songs.

There is also the timing of it all, though there are so many changes over the years and other reasons that can play a part that it’s difficult to know how much would simply be consequences of their general feelings and how they help each other regardless of it having any romantic meanings.

In 2016 after the dumpling incident Vmin said they got closer and Taehyung even said he “felt arrows of emotions pierce his heart”. In february 2017 Spring Day was released and Vmin called each other soulmates during a fansign. Later the same year Taehyung wrote first 4 o'clock and then Happy Christmas. Both related to Jimin, one with a reference to a gay movie and the other denied because the lyrics were too romantic for two men to sing (despite other members having already sung romantic songs together). Happy Christmas talks about being happy with someone at "the end of Winter" which is similar to the wish in Spring Day. Taehyung keeps writing romantic sounding songs, many with similar themes and a focus on longing and hoping to be able to be with the other person. Sweet Night comes out right after Friends and during a period when Taehyung had called Jimin his best friend repeatedly. Taehyung wants to pull someone he perhaps considers his best friend closer. A person for whom his feelings changed at some point.

Timing of Vmin getting "closer" matches with when Taehyung started to write songs.

Jimin said he wanted to gift his loved one a Christmas song and after that Taehyung wrote a Christmas song he wanted to sing with Jimin.

Now Jimin obviously has a lot less, but even with the few songs we have we got these:

Taehyung has Jimin’s contact name saved as “blue mold-shi” a reference to Jimin’s song and matching a phone case he made for Jimin.

Of course this doesn’t include their songs Lie/Stigma, some other connections between Singularity/Serendipity and the possible similarities which I have talked about in Vmin - Scenery, Promise and song connections.

If we look at the Vmin timeline and their songs it seems we could have something there for a long time pre 2016, then a time when they decided to act on it “the window years” possibly after the dumpling incident around early 2017 and then the winter of being apart and longing for spring to come following. And then gradually the night getting warmer and warmer and the winter being something they treasure.

It all connects very well to Taehyung and his songs and if so the theme of two best friends reaching for each other and waiting to be together in spring is another possible theme that makes Vmin more interesting simply because of the friends aspect. Again, it also times with both Vmin changing and becoming closer after the dumpling fight, the timing of Tae writing 4 o'clock and Happy Christmas and Vmin's soulmate claims. On top of this we have Vmin’s behavior and relationship with each other, like Taehyung being more bold in showing his bias while Jimin has remained rather easily flustered and almost nervous about Taehyung’s actions at times.

Another aspect I find interesting is how Vmin seems to want to work together when it comes to songs. It has been mentioned several times by both of them and Taehyung has even offered to write Jimin songs rather unprompted.

We have an interesting conversation in In the Soop, which I don’t know if it just accidentally managed to hit the one month out of the year that is relevant for this post.

I am of course talking about August because of the line “It's all winter here, even in August”, and I have no idea if Jimin said this as some inside joke or if he threw out August for some other reason or just randomly, but I wanted to include it. Especially (as I mentioned earlier) since when Taehyung released Winter Bear in August he did include that line about Spring Day in his comment.

When Taehyung asks Jimin about if he will release any songs in 2021 he also ends it with “August it is!” as the final date where Jimin will release a song.

For me I just find it interesting that Taehyung and Jimin seem so involved and interested in each other’s song creating process. I know I am repeating myself but:

Of course most of these examples were before BE and thus Blue & Grey as well as Fly to my room. But the sentiment is there and has been for a long time.

For songs like Scenery and Promise as well as Christmas love and Winter Flower they also somehow seem to work and release songs almost in pairs. Though this is of course a bit of a reach considering how few songs Jimin has released. I just can’t help but notice the timing and the similarities between their songs.

Vmin song analysis - Winter in August - Part 1

Since this analysis ended up being so long it has been divided in parts. This is part 1.

This started as a Spring Day analysis, but it has since grown immensely. I actually rather call it a thematic analysis or something, and while Spring Day is still at the core of it all, I go through many songs and details outside of Spring Day connections.

The thing is that I have wanted to make an analysis of Spring Day for a long time in regards to Vmin, but have hesitated to do so because of the negativity I have received in the past when “making everything about a ship”. In particular when there are no obvious connections and when it is about a BTS song written by completely different members than Vmin. But this analysis is not about the meaning of the song as intended by the writers. Rather I am trying to explore the possible meaning of the song for the listener, in this case Vmin, and how they might relate to the song and then use the themes in their own creations. The core is the themes of Spring Day, but I will go through most of Vmin's solo songs to further discuss the themes and connections to Vmin.

I was going to post this for the 4 year anniversary of Spring Day, but got a bit delayed (then I wanted to post it in August but failed to meet the deadline again). I also want to take this time to state how much I love this song. It was the first new BTS comeback I experienced and it’s one of my absolute favorites out of all BTS songs and MVs. Nothing I mention in this post is to downgrade such a beautiful song with such powerful inspiration behind it to being about a ship, I simply want to point out how I think there seems to be a special place for this song when it comes to Vmin. (Of course the same sentiment applies to the other songs mentioned.)

We know it’s partly about Yoongi’s and Namjoon’s experiences of losing friends as they moved to Seoul, and of course also the Sewol ferry tragedy. But again, the actual inspiration isn’t of much consequence in this analysis. Because I am not here to say the song is about Vmin.

I am also not here to imply that all of the songs mentioned are directly inspired by Spring Day, but rather that the themes used and feelings felt might be similar and in some cases even lyrically similar. That being said of course these themes being quite common means it can all be coincidence and I simply managed to find enough things that fit, without those being intentional. Or it could of course be intentional but have other reasons or connections than Vmin. In fact most of these points will be connected to Taehyung and thus might be something for him personally that might not be meant to include Jimin at all.

On top of this there are of course many other BTS (and TXT) songs with similar themes as well, for example with spring coming. It’s also used a lot in relation to BTS’s theme of Persona and I am not ignoring the possibility that the connections could be made more for that purpose than anything relationship related. Still, I wanted to make this analysis, and I hope you realize as usual I could be wrong and this is just a theory. Because even though it’s not a Vmin song in the direct sense, I think it's possible Vmin relates to it, or at least that Taehyung does. I am using Spring Day over other songs with similar themes as I see it as an early example of many of these themes, and because of the other more direct connections I have found. Vmin have a few interesting moments connected to the song and I personally think they are worth noting. The way I see it a lot of these connections don’t have to be made intentionally. Some obviously are, but it could also just be that the ideas are there and they have felt inspired and this might leak through as it’s something they think about unconsciously.

If you want, you can see this as an example of how you can create an analysis and connections where there might not be any if you just look hard enough.

Taehyung obviously loves Spring Day a lot, and Jimin does too. It might seem weird to make a Vmin analysis out of Spring Day, but I just felt there was enough surrounding things to talk about. Even if they might be coincidence I do personally think they fit it very well with the other song theories I have made, and I have even mentioned Spring Day a few times before. There is a lot to keep track of, and I might have to repeat things a lot as I go through their songs, but I hope you’ll get a sense of the connections and how many there could be. So let’s look at Spring Day and their other songs with a Vmin perspective.

 Let’s get started, because this is going to take a while.

1 - Lyrics and theme of Spring Day

Let’s start with the lyrics of Spring Day, which are quite poetic and use a lot of metaphors in true BTS fashion, yet paint the narrative of a rather complex relationship of love and hate. The song is partly directed at “society” and is meant to comfort and is also a song about grief and loss and longing, and I urge you to look up the inspirations and symbolism behind the song as they hold a lot of meaning.

That being said, I again want to emphasize that this analysis is not about the intended meaning of the song, but rather the things I see from Vmin towards this song, so I won’t go into the actual inspiration much. Basically, it’s the opposite perspective than song analyses I might do on Vmin’s own songs where I speculate about inspiration for the song, as this time I mostly focus on inspiration they might get from the song.

The person is longing for this other person and wants to go to them and hold their hand. I also think it’s possible the perspective changes either between two people or over time, as the first verses will be about asking questions like “How long do I have to wait” while by the end it has turned into “If you wait a little” and “I’ll come for you” etc. The person in the song has gone into action, actively going to the person they long for, asking them to wait for them specifically rather than just asking how long they have to wait and asking them to stay, which I will come back to later on.

Let’s go through some of the lyrics I think matters for this Vmin perspective in particular, which first off is the use of friend. Spring Day is not really a romantic song, but it does focus on the very strong feelings between friends and how they want to be together and how they miss each other. They are using the word longing here so I say it’s rather intense feelings they are having, and they clearly struggle with being separated.  Something is keeping them apart, no matter if it’s their differences or just a falling out etc. once again doesn’t really matter. We only have to look at the broader theme of these friends going through a difficult time, longing for each other, wanting to be together and waiting for each other. We can see why Vmin might relate to the lyrics as the song is on the surface level about missing your best friend. 

Wanna get to the other side of the earth, holding your hand Wanna put an end to this winter How much longing should we see snowing down To have the days of spring, Friend You know it all You’re my best friend The morning will come again No darkness, no season is eternal 

A theme that has been used by BTS and Big Hit (just look at TXT songs) many times is the way winter represents a difficult and sad period while the spring they long for is the end of such a period. We even know that BTS have used winter to describe the current Covid situation and hoping for winter to end.

Spring and winter are used the same way as night and day as they say “No darkness, no season is eternal” and there will be better times again with “the morning will come again” and the arrival of spring. These times will surely come, and in this song these friends are waiting for that time when things will be better, when they finally reach each other. They want winter to end, and it’s difficult, but they know it won’t last forever. They want to reach each other and one is urging the other person to wait for them and be patient, basically comforting them.

The snow falling represents the longing and distance of these two friends being separated, while the idea of it maybe being cherry blossoms falling represents the hope of this longing coming to an end and the two finally getting to be together in spring. 

I think if we consider a hidden relationship we could see the longing, the separation and the wish to reach spring and better times in the way these feelings are portrayed in Spring Day no matter the original intent. Perhaps in particular for Vmin because of the theme of Best friends as well.

They long for each other and we know by the end of the song the choice is to be together again. They are enduring these hard times, this winter, until the end so that they can finally be together when the morning or spring arrives. It’s not yet, but they are going to be together.

With the theme of winter in August and waiting for the winter to end l also want to point out that the line “It’s all winter here, even in August” is inspired by the movie Christmas in August, a classic Korean romantic drama. Which suggests the song has a romantic reference. Secondly because some of the self written songs where Taehyung references winter and even Spring Day directly could be read as romantic it's possible that despite Spring Day not being explicitly romantic the feelings, interpretation and parallels from Taehyung still could be. It is after all about feeling like this about another person, longing for someone they want to be with though it’s difficult, and whether those feelings are romantic or not in the original content matters less than how we might read Taehyung’s own works.

The most prominent themes to look out for in Spring Day are Winter/Spring (and also warm/cold), Night/Day and then the longing or asking someone to wait or stay.

So that’s generally what I think we can feel from the song’s lyrics and theme, but there are a lot of specific lyrical lines that I find interesting because of how Vmin have talked about each other and especially also used some lines in their own songs. More on that later.

2. Choreo and MV

I wasn’t sure I should include this category, because out of everything it should be taken the least seriously and it’s not much. Everything that comes from Big Hit and not the members themselves have too many possible reasons to happen for me to think it’s done on purpose in a “Vmin narrative”. I rather not stray too much into things from Big Hit for theories as that would basically mean Big Hit is in some way helping in the “Vmin agenda” through secret clues, and I just don’t see that as very likely. But since there are a few things that do connect Vmin to Spring Day from the company I felt I should briefly mention it. Especially since it has further allowed Vmin to make the song their own in other ways. More than the original content having meaning I think the things Vmin has done after are more interesting.

The obvious which is from Big Hit is the choreo and the MV and I am not saying this means something, but we do have Vmin in particular being the two reaching for each other in the choreography. The choreo is also kind of playing into Vmin being these two people of opposite sides reaching for each other but never being in sync. In total there are three points of Vmin interactions in the choreo. Reaching for each other, one setting and the other rising, and Taehyung helping Jimin up from the floor.

Most noteworthy is the two of them reaching for each other as they are turned to face each other (while the other pairs are moving the same way they do not face each other.) Vmin are literally reaching for each other just as the lyrics talk about.

We also have Jimin going towards Taehyung and them switching places (one rises as the other one goes down, something I mentioned in my Taehyung and Jimin - Yin and Yang theories).

And lastly Tae is the one to help Jimin stand, so they do have quite a few interactions in the choreo, but I don’t really think it’s very significant. But they do reach for each other and go towards each other and hold hands so there are a few moves fitting the lyrics.

I also think it might be interesting to note that both Jimin and Taehyung at different points in the choreography are comforted by Jin.

Then in the MV we have a focus shot on Vmin sleeping together while Tae sings about the sleepless nights.

We also possibly have Jimin being in spring and Taehyung being in winter in the MV, and they are the only two with locations not shared with anyone else; the train station and the beach. Again, I don’t want to put much meaning into this, but want to mention it to have all Vmin and Spring Day connections covered.

“I’ll be there to see you (I'll go there to meet you)”

I also personally like that out of all the members it seems only Jimin and Taehyung are walking around aimlessly in their scenes. As I said, the snow and the ocean and their clothes might also possibly reference one being in spring and one being in winter, or them being at different sides of the world. Seperate in some way be it in time or space. It might even be the small start of the Yin and Yang theme we can find between Vmin later, just like the connections in the MVs between Serendipity and Singularity and their small part in DNA.

There are some small cute moments from behind the scenes of making Spring Day/The album photoshoot too, but not really anything that stands out as significant (unless you are on board with the ARMY is a codeword theories).

We also have small things like Spring Day being used as the background music in edits, as when Vmin speaks about the letter in Hawaii for example, but mostly I just wanted to include the choreo and MV moments I felt were necessary to mention.

So, in short there are some small things that are nice moments that come from Big Hit. However, what is the best part of this is the way Jimin and Taehyung have at times gone along with it and done more to make Spring Day feel like a Vmin song at least by association to some nice moments. 

From concerts the most noteworthy example was when Jimin changed the choreo three days in a row. The first likely being an accident, but then doing it on purpose the following days. He walks up to Taehyung and during the last day Taehyung is already upright and waiting for him. (video)

You also have Taehyung kneeling and singing to Jimin when he was too hurt to dance. And the smile after is not to be ignored.

Then there was 5th Muster where Tae requested the song, and Vmin then went and slow danced to it. This moment alone has made many Vminies feel Spring Day is a Vmin song.

In the ON:E online live concert we also got a small moment between Vmin in Spring Day, when Tae sings “You know it all, you’re my best friend” Jimin walks up to him and puts his mic in front of Tae.

There are of course many other small interactions like this over the years and through various Spring Day performances, but of course small interactions likely don't matter much.

There is also a somewhat interesting moment from BTS’s performance of Spring Day at the Dear class of 2020. Jimin and Taehyung are sitting apart, but playing up the fanservice with Yoongi, Jin and JK who are next to them. It seems like they are watching each other and playing some kind of inside joke throughout the performance. (video)

Watching the clip it also seems like Taehyung is mouthing 보고싶다 (bogoshipda), which means “I miss you" in Korean, making Jimin smile. Maybe he does it to Jimin or maybe just to sing a long and Jimin found it cute.

So while there are some interesting moments between Vmin to be found, the amount of Spring Day performances will of course lead to some interactions that might just be small things they did for no special reason. Even so, I think they are cute and enough if a Vminie wants to associate Spring Day as a Vmin song just because it’s sweet.

3. Taehyung’s (and Jimin’s) love for Spring Day

I also need to bring up how much Taehyung loves Spring Day, and how he has talked about this song. Personally I think it’s pretty clear this song is special to him, though it doesn’t have to be any big personal reason, he might simply love the song and the MV (like so many of us do). 

Still, he really seems to love it more than many other of their songs and has expressed it quite often. When IDOL won Best Music video Taehyung did something funny and said the MV for Spring Day is his favorite, and honestly I can’t blame him, it’s such a good video.

Noteworthy is how Taehyung has chosen Spring Day as his favorite title track, and in particular the end of the song that is in the MV version, which has the instrumentals and mostly Jimin walking alone. Taehyung talked about this on weverse as recently as in January 2020.

He could have just said Spring Day, but he did pinpoint a moment in the MV, which is when Jimin is walking alone, looking into the camera and holding the shoes. This part of the MV makes him tear up even three years after the release, and I think it says a lot. (Though to be fair it could also be because of Spring Day being the ending song of their Wings concerts and they play the instrumental then.)

Jimin as well has chosen the MV as his favorite, but honestly I think a lot of people would.

More recently Jimin also picked Spring Day as a memorable song for him. And I think that Jimin and in particular Taehyung are probably the members that have mentioned Spring Day and their love for it the most.

Jimin also piped in and told us Spring Day is Taehyung’s favorite song, right away thinking about Taehyung as they brought up Spring Day in Immortal Song (2020). ((332) (ENG SUB) BTS 인터뷰 10분으로 압축했다.zip [불후의 명곡 전설을 노래하다] - YouTube)

It's just more proof how Tae loves the song above others, and even to the point where Jimin seems to associate it with Taehyung.

Taehyung also said he thinks the song is even better and more fitting for winter. Honestly I kind of agree, as the lyrics are set more in winter and the spring is what the people long for and wait for. I simply bring this up because the settings Taehyung uses in his own songs are almost exclusively in the winter so it’s interesting he also thinks Spring Day is more of a winter song.

In the Dynamite countdown live Taehyung chose the song for his recommendation and told us the song still makes him tear up. It is evident Taehyung loves the song and still thinks about it.

We can conclude it’s an emotional song for Taehyung that he likes a lot just by hearing the way he talks about it. I have no idea if he just really likes it, or if he feels he can personally relate to it, but what I do know is that he has used Spring Day a few times in various ways when making his own songs. The fact that he loves it could mean the connections to Spring Day are a sort of homage, but might not have much deeper meaning. Thinking he has been inspired is not too far fetched as we know he has used the song in some way for his own releases, we just can’t know why he has chosen to make some of the connections.

Vmin song analysis - Winter in August - Part 2

Since this analysis ended up being so long it has been divided in parts. This is part 2. If you haven’t read part 1 yet I recommend doing so.

This started as a Spring Day analysis, but it has since grown immensely. I actually rather call it a thematic analysis or something, and while Spring Day is still at the core of it all, I go through many songs and details outside of Spring Day connections.

Taehyung obviously loves Spring Day a lot, and Jimin does too. It might seem weird to make a Vmin analysis out of Spring Day, but I just felt there was enough surrounding things to talk about. Even if they might be coincidence I do personally think they fit it very well with the other song theories I have made, and I have even mentioned Spring Day a few times before. As usual I suggest reading my other song analyses before you get into this one. You can find them all in My masterpost

I am going to talk mostly about connections that Taehyung has made and how he seems to use a lot of similar themes and references, but also things possibly connecting Vmin and Spring Day.

In this part I will go through Vmin’s (mostly Taehyung’s) songs and some direct and some possible connections between the songs and Spring Day.

There is a lot to keep track of, and I might have to repeat things a lot as I go through their songs, but I hope you’ll get a sense of the connections and how many there could be. So let’s look at Spring Day and their other songs with a Vmin perspective. This will be the longest part of this analysis.

4 - Connections to Vmin’s songs

Now I want to go through these lyrics and themes used in Spring Day and how I feel Vmin (in particular Taehyung) might have been inspired to use them in their own songs.

Taehyung has in many of his songs a similar theme in the form of longing, wondering about the past and future and wanting to be closer to someone. These are all themes that Spring Day uses as well. He also uses the night references and winter references to varying degrees and meanings. We have Winter Bear, Happy Christmas and most recently Snow Flower using winter or snow in different ways. Meanwhile Sweet Night and 4 o’clock use night in the lyrics (and so does Jimin’s Promise). This tells us it’s something Taehyung likes to use, and considering his love for Spring Day I would not find it too far-fetched that he could have found inspiration for his own songs and a way to express himself through the themes and lyrics originally used in Spring Day. Especially since the poetic expressions are something that Namjoon might also help with to add the feeling that Taehyung is looking for at times, for example in 4 o’clock where they focused on how to express Taehyung’s feelings.

I wrote about it in an ask in regards to Taehyung liking to use winter and snow as a theme before, but Taehyung doesn’t just like the theme of winter, it seems he could have specifically referenced Spring Day a few times already in his songs and in his promo for his songs which you will see by the end of this post.

On top of lyrical similarities there are also outside references from Vmin themselves that for me is the point that really makes the whole theory more plausible when it comes to them having a special connection to Spring Day. Of course one reference or two being direct doesn't automatically mean all others are definitely correct. This is still just speculation when it comes to the whole narrative existing.

The easiest way to do this might simply be to go through all the solo songs in order and point out the similarities and connections they share with Spring Day.

Singularity and Serendipity

Now I want to go through these lyrics and themes used in Spring Day and how I feel Vmin (in particular Taehyung) might have been inspired to use them in their own songs.

I put these two together because I feel they are more Big Hit related and I don’t know how much influence or inspiration either of Vmin have had with these songs. But since I want to include all there is, I still want to mention the lines I find possibly connected through the theme. I have talked about these songs and how Big Hit has made them mirrors of each other in my post Taehyung and Jimin - Yin and Yang where I even briefly mention Spring Day.

We also know Namjoon (and also Slow Rabbit) had a hand in many of these songs and as such it could either be written with intended similarities or it’s simply themes he likes to use and get inspired by. Namjoon has a very clear taste and likes to use similar themes (Like his love for the poem “Flower”), so having that in mind I do want to be clear with these choices not necessarily having anything to do with Jimin or Taehyung whenever Namjoon is involved with the lyrics. In fact, since Namjoon himself said no to helping write Friends due to its content and finding it hard to write about Vmin's relationship, I don't think it's likely he would specifically write about them on his own. Unless, like in 4 o'clock, he is helping with putting their own feelings into words or perhaps if it’s in more vague feelings/expressions rather than directly about a relationship. It's also possible some things were always intended as an overlapping theme in certain BTS songs, but Tae chose to add it to his own songs as well. Basically these two songs by Namjoon likely don't count much. But let's look at them anyways. 

In Serendipity (full length lyrics) we find these lines:

When you called me I became your flower As if we were waiting We bloom until we ache

Simply put these lines can when linked to “Until the days of flower blossoms” be about being each other’s spring or hope or what they long for. Serendipity also speaks about waiting, which of course is in Spring Day as well.

Come to my side now So we can become one I don't want to let go- no Do I just have to treasure it

Although you say nothing I feel it There are many more stars Together we're flying It's never over

Don't be nervous and grab my hand Cause now we are one Let me love you

These lines fit pretty well with the beginning of Spring Day “Wanna get to the other side of the earth, holding your hand”. So what we have from Serendipity is the flower theme, the longing and wanting to be together with “Come to my side” and not wanting to let go and holding hands. One could say Serendipity is the part when they are finally about to come together and the more hopeful spring part of the relationship. It’s also asking the other person to “let me love you” and of course it all can tie in with the persona and coming to terms with loving different parts of yourself. But it also works as a love song of wanting to be with someone and finally taking the step to be together, perhaps especially in a relationship you are scared to enter.

In the images from the MV we also know it’s happy and dreamy, and while Jimin is awake at night he finally ends up in the sun by the end of the video. Both songs have a theme of day and night, and opposites like warm and cold and have been made to match. Both videos have longing, and it seems the additional photoshoot might have been made with the same idea.

Two parts of the same whole (dark/light, yin/yang), but also two people wanting to be together despite both their differences and obstacles. Two people with one soul, reaching out for each other.

Considering the way Vmin describes each other and their relationship I can’t fault Big Hit in choosing them to represent these two very different sides of the same coin.

“Me from the moon, you from the stars.”

Meanwhile if we look at Singularity, even with the imagery we can tell it will be more focused on the winter, and the difficult time of separation. The first matching line in Singularity is “Try to cover my ears but can’t go to sleep” as In Spring Day we have:

And how many sleepless nights do I have to spend To see you (to see you)

Then we also have more on the winter theme in Singularity of course.

A crack again on this frozen lake I dumped myself into the lake I buried my voice for you Over the winter lake I was thrown

It’s clear we have a winter theme and that it isn’t something pleasant, and it’s possible this winter was partly forced if we look at how he was thrown over the lake. But the person also dumps themselves into this cold lake and to me this could be read as a “I will do it because I don’t have a choice” type of feeling. Especially since it goes on to say “I buried my voice for you” it also feels like hiding a part of themselves is very painful, but in the end their own choice simply because of this other person. (The Persona theme and what they show ARMY is of course very distinctly being used here, but I think it also works with other interpretations.)

We also have this line which again uses the same theme as Spring Day very directly. 

Reach my hand out to cover the mouth But in the end, spring will come someday The ice will melt and flow away

You could also argue the line of covering the mouth and burying their voice as having something you are unable to tell, and talk about, which could also match the situation of a hidden or in some way not possible relationship (though likely it’s just the beginning of the persona theme and hiding who they are behind their idol masks).

I don’t think Namjoon wrote about Vmin in these songs, but again it could possibly be the case that they have afterwards taken a liking to the themes or imagery, like how Taehyung is using “penicillium/blue mold” as Jimin’s contact name, which is directly from Serendipity. (Which also then makes one wonder if Taehyung does see Jimin as his “penicillin/savior”?)

Either way both Serendipity and Singularity have some possible theme and lyric connections to Spring Day including holding hands, waiting, cold winter and most significantly, waiting for spring to come. We also know these two songs are connected at the very least in their imagery, and if you haven’t already you might want to check out my post Taehyung and Jimin - Yin and Yang.

You have also seen both of Vmin reaching out for each other, in Singularity and in particular in Serendipity as it is also in the lyrics, the reaching out with his hand and asking to hold it. (One reaching for the moon and one reaching for the sun.) It’s interesting because while Serendipity is seemingly happy, and he comes into the light by the end, he is still alone and seemingly reaching for something or someone. Again, maybe it’s just the other half of him he has to leave behind, but I can’t ignore how they seem to have used Taehyung to represent that other half and how well it fits with more romantic tones and themes like destiny and being soulmates.

That being said, though Singularity and Serendipity are Taehyung and Jimin’s songs, they are not by their own making, and thus will always be more of an anecdote in analysis like this.

4 o’clock

Moving on, I don’t think I have to explain how this song in itself is directly connected to Vmin (another song which Namjoon did help to write), but the short version is that Taehyung was inspired to write it after his and Jimin’s dumpling fight and reconciliation in a park at dawn. You can read more about it in my other song analysis, in particular in Vmin analysis - 4 o’clock. But let’s look at any possible similarities to Spring Day, because they aren’t that many and not that obvious for this song. 

In this case I would say it’s the theme of being in a difficult period but also in this case fearing the “morning” that matters the most for the whole context. Here night and day is used and not winter and spring but it has similar meaning. I have talked about this in my very first (though now slightly outdated) Vmin song analysis Vmin - The Sun, the Moon & The whole universe.

I said in that analysis how the night seemed like something sad (similar to winter), but that the sun and morning was also something very scary. Which leads to the dawn in between to be their time together that brings the most comfort. The morning will come again, and in 4 o'clock it does, but the sun is also suffocating. We also know 4 o'clock uses “You and I are the only ones here. Me and you” meaning we could see it as two people being in the cold dark metaphorical night together, crying and shattered, until the morning arrives. But also that the second person basically brings morning and warmth to the one singing.

Following into the deep night The sound of you singing Brings the red morning A step, and another step The dawn passes And when that moon falls asleep The blue shade that stayed with me disappears

The sun suffocates me And the world strips me naked I can't help it, there's no other way I collect myself that's shattered beneath the moonlight I call you moonchild We are the children of the moon I breathe the cold night air Yes we're livin' and dyin' At the same time

For me it’s possible that 4 o’clock could reference the struggle of hiding, and being in the night, but also being scared of being exposed in the light, even if they do want morning to come. There is some comfort in the night and dawn, despite everything. This reading becomes even more interesting if we look at other songs by Taehyung that he has written since. In a metaphorical sense the possible other person also brings the morning and we know bringing warmth is another common theme for Taehyung’s songs. Basically if we consider it as between two people (as opposed to a reading of it being more introspective about only Taehyung) they are both each other’s happiness and sadness, they are living and dying at the same time.

I want to point out once again that all of these themes work very well with BTS’s Persona inspirations and their own images and how they are seen by their fans and the struggles it leads to. But since in Spring Day it’s put in the perspective of longing, and in 4 o'clock we know Taehyung at least partly had Jimin in mind, I feel I needed to include this. If you’ve read my analysis of 4 o’clock you also know my guess on the song’s meaning and the lyrics, but that I also think it’s possible for the song to mean something else or have several meanings/layers to it. 

Further, when Taehyung released 4 o’clock both him and Namjoon posted about it on the fancafé. Namjoon mentioned Jimin being the friend that Taehyung waited for, though he later deleted that part of the message, while Taehyung didn’t mention Jimin at all. But if we look at the possibility of winter having a special meaning to Tae there is another interesting aspect of Taehyung’s note.

the dark (silent) dawn where the (listless) sounds ring with the cold cold winter wind you continuously close your eyes to the sounds as you realize the dawn fly the birds at dawn cry out with an anxious passion fly let me hear your voice fill this dawn

So the poem in Taehyung’s message includes a new detail we didn’t see mentioned in the song itself:

Taehyung mentioned the dawn, the birds and the cold winter wind. I don’t know if this was some of his original lyrics for 4 o’clock, but at least the theme of the cold winter has been used in 4 o’clock to some extent as well. Considering we know Jimin has some part in Taehyung’s inspiration, and then that Scenery references back to the park and has a winter/snow theme it truly feels like Taehyung either really really loves winter or has a similar inspiration and thoughts behind many of his lyrics.

I also think the themes (like dawn, the park, being bright and the night being cold but a comfort all the same) used in 4 o’clock being used again in other songs by Taehyung that are more clearly romantic could point at this possible other person to be Jimin above others that we know.

The day of 4 o'clock's release Tae also posted a few videos to the japanese fanclub, and while I am not sure if they were directly uploaded by him I had to include it. You see in the videos (a series of 4 clips labeled #Don’tCheatOnMe) one of them is Taehyung laying down with his head on a railway track (another one being just being inside a train and giving finger hearts). Which to me looks like it could be a throwback to his scene in Spring Day.

A few days before the release, on the 3rd of June, Taehyung also posted a series of photos from the Spring Day shoot.

However this was just one out of several posts by Tae with photos that day, so perhaps he just happened to have a set that he named “Spring Day” since he had photos from the shoot he wanted to share.

In the end the timing of 4 o’clock and it’s connection to Jimin is probably a bigger deal than the possible references to Spring Day that we can find.

Happy Christmas

When I first thought of this analysis and possible connections I really wanted to bring up Taehyung’s Christmas song, which was likely written the same year as Spring Day was released. It’s a romantic song that Taehyung wanted to sing with Jimin and that got denied because the lyrics wouldn’t fit two men. We know this song matters to Taehyung and that he even talked about the problem of it being sung by two men and that he wanted to sing it specifically with Jimin.

I’ve talked about it many times before, but having a Christmas song connected to Vmin could be a big deal. Christmas is a romantic holiday in Korea, and considering how he felt strongly enough to play it twice during vlives and mention he likely won’t release it I think this song was significant to Taehyung on a personal level. You can read more in my posts The Vmin Christmas song and  Big Hit, BTS, Vmin and LGBT.

But let’s look at the connection to Spring Day. Taehyung’s Christmas song, which I will call Happy Christmas, includes the Line "Happy Christmas, end of this winter, you and I will make together Christmas" as well as “End of white snow, There is you who is brighter”

This lyrical similarity could be argued to be coincidental since Christmas does occur during winter, but specifically using that line when BTS has used the winter reference so often to represent a period of difficulty, I personally think it’s intended that way. He also says at the end of white snow, so it does seem to mean after everything “cold”, and at that time this person remains, brighter than anyone else. 

Their Christmas together, in this sense something very happy and also something very romantic, is what will come at the end of the metaphorical difficult period of Winter. Not the literal end of the winter season. In particular since the winter season in Korea does not at all end with Christmas and in fact Christmas would be somewhere in the middle of Korean winter.

This is Taehyung’s own song, and the timing of it in combination with using “end of winter” and it having a direct connection to Jimin, it’s one of the pieces that to me indicates Jimin could be part of this whole puzzle that we find in Taehyung’s songs and the common themes used.

Another similarity Happy Christmas has to Spring Day in it’s lyrics is the use of “Never let go of my both hands” which as you know we have with “Wanna get to the other side of the earth, holding your hand”.

If Taehyung is singing about his own feelings for one particular person across many of his songs, and if these feelings are romantic, the fact that we have Happy Christmas and 4 o'clock in different ways be tied to Jimin becomes very significant. But of course it’s still possible for Taehyung to have these feelings and write about them and it being about someone else (or several others) as well, or it could be platonic feelings simply translated to sound more romantic in the songs.

I also think we need to remember how Jimin himself said the year before Tae started to write Happy Christmas that he would like to give a song as a Christmas present to the one he loves.

The fact that Taehyung made a romantic sounding Christmas song that he wanted to sing with Jimin, but that also got denied because of them both being men and the lyrics “not being fit” for them to sing together, should not be understated. Especially since it clearly meant enough for Taehyung to talk about it, twice. And also because of the timing of it and the way it works very well with how Taehyung talks about both Jimin and often the person present in his other songs.

It also works very well with the themes of being together “but apart” or hiding parts of themselves from the world until the time is right, since Christmas is something that they will have, but doesn’t seem to have yet. Just as in Spring Day it depicts waiting for better times. Taehyung is mostly positive in the song and when describing this other person, and maybe it is just the English translation, but to me it seems Christmas is what happens when they finally come together.

Promise

Though I know Promise being connected to Spring Day is a stretch and I don’t want to downplay the meaning Jimin has given behind the lyrics I will mention some things very briefly. Following with the themes of night/day, light/dark and winter/spring we could find some similarities in Jimin’s song lyrics.

I want you to be your light, baby You should be your light So that you won't be in pain So you can smile I want you to be your night, baby You could be your night I'll be honest with you tonight 

You're hurting too 'cause you're mine I just want to blow your mind We're drifting apart again "I don't feel it" That's what I say But to be honest that's not it

Promise is a song of fear and doubt but also hope and wanting to be able to stand alone and be happy. It’s also directed towards another person who seems to struggle and Jimin is asking them to be their own light and night. Which if put with 4 o’clock’s ambiguous relationship to the night makes the lyrics quite interesting. Even with Happy Christmas where Taehyung is waiting for the winter to end and the person with him being brighter, could in context of Promise feel like it is Jimin’s hope that Taehyung won’t just, well, wait for him and a better time. But to find his own joy and comfort and happiness even in the night outside of this other person (in this case Jimin). He is also reassuring the other person that he too is affected, even if he tries not to be.

The song doesn’t have any real direct connections to Spring Day, but for the full context I decided to include it. Mostly because of the night and light themes being so common over their songs and because of the difficulties described in the “relationship” and having to be apart but acting strong and being independent. For me Promise tells us about a want and strive to have a healthy relationship with loving yourself and standing on your own, but that could also be about encouraging someone you love and providing them with hope while also being vulnerable and sorry towards them.

Of course there are other things that could connect Promise to Vmin, not the least the cover photo being taken by Taehyung, but that’s something you can read more on in my other analysis (Vmin - Scenery, Promise and song connections).

The timing of Promise could also be rather interesting as apparently Jimin got the idea for the concept of using a Promise during the New York Citi Field concert on October 6th 2018 (Where Taehyung also mentions a promise to ARMY in the ending ment (video). This was the day after Taehyung’s vlive where he talked about the Christmas song for the first time, which was also the same day Jimin showed off his phone cover made by Taehyung with the Serendipity reference (Fungus) for the first time.

Anyways, Promise could be outside of this theory since most of it is based on Taehyung and his repeating themes, but it does fit to some degree so who knows. Of course the timing of when Promise was written also matches with when Taehyung wrote another song of his.

Scenery

Now, Scenery is an interesting song for sure, but I can’t bring up all there is to it in this post, so again I suggest reading my other song analysis before anything. The most important part is that it seems to reference the particular scene in 4 o’clock that we know is connected to Jimin, meaning the park at dawn “In the park of the early morning, I have my feelings now”. It also brings up the theme of longing and hoping to make the other person his and having a better future together. Let’s look at the lyrics that fit with Spring Day.

In the streets full of flowers I see you today too

So, first of all the flowers is a very common theme and the “street full of flowers” or “flower road” is of course something else BTS uses a lot in various songs and messages. It’s about being on a happy and successful road together, and hoping for things to be better.

Taehyung said in his Festa 2019 profile "Receive more scars and be happier than anyone else, no matter what life you are living. Only walk steps where the scenery is nice” and some say this is of similar meaning to using the expression flower road. Scenery in itself could be a hint or hope or wish towards a happier life with this other person that he wants to pull closer and be his or to simply see things from the bright side when possible.

If we take Taehyung more literally, it could be that the person he sings about is also a person he associates with his “street full of flowers” being a place, which could point at his career. I say this mostly because he says “In this street full of flowers, I see you today too”. Of course it could also mean ARMY or something like that, but considering the song has a possible connection to 4 o’clock, Jimin is not an impossible option. Taehyung also used “let’s walk on the flower road together” in his letter to Jimin in Bon Voyage 2 (2017). He wants the two of them to be happy together. So as in many cases when it comes to themes or expressions in Taehyung’s songs this is yet another one which he has at least used directly with Jimin.

Scenery of course also has a moon and night theme. Like I said Taehyng specifically mentions dawn again, which could be a throwback to 4 o’clock.

In the park of the early morning I have my feelings now

That park seem to be important, and we also hear Taehyung say he has his feelings, which I interpret as him being very sure of what he feels compared to before. We also know since before that a park is a place he associates with Jimin, besides the direct connection to the dumpling fight. Personally it wouldn’t be too weird if that night in the park was important enough for Taehyung to keep referencing it.

He is making his own light too by this point just like Jimin might have wanted him to in Promise. He has regrets, but all in all he seems to be in the night but having hope for the future and wishing to make the other person his. However they are not together, it's simply Taehyung expressing his own side and his wishes. Scenery is also written in a way that can be seen as more romantic. 

I still wonder wonder beautiful story Still wonder wonder best part I still wander wander next story I want to make you mine

If you leave footprints I'll keep it warm I'll stay in black and white

He also sings about the other person leaving footprints, and about keeping something warm. I think this might mean he is staying close, following this person, but as I said they are not together at this time. It could also indicate another winter theme, though more subtle in the lyrics.  But at the start of Scenery there is the sound of walking in snow and what is likely a train approaching, which I honestly think is meant to be a throwback to Spring Day.

As the first song Taehyung released that is all his own, I think it’s of great importance. It is another song about longing and it's also about wondering about the future, so while it might not have many lyrical similarities to Spring Day, it does have a thematic one.

Honestly besides the night and moon themes and possible connections to 4 o’clock, the most interesting Spring Day connections for Scenery are not in the lyrics. Just keep in mind the longing in Scenery, the hope for the future to change and the connection to 4 o’clock and possibly Jimin.

We have some direct references to Spring Day that Taehyung included in regards to Scenery which I have talked about to some extent in my Vmin - Scenery, Promise and song connections post. I also want to mention that Promise and Scenery were written and released very close to each other and while I didn’t bring up Promise and Spring Day comparisons in detail there are some similarities there in the stories as well. For example, about the love/hate relationship and using night. But generally some themes can be so vague or common they could just as easily mean nothing. (This is why we might want to be careful with seeing something in everything, because sometimes it’s easy to make connections that might not be intended at all.)

But let’s go back to Scenery and Spring Day as it’s not just about similarities in theme or lyrics. Some of the direct links Taehyung used are the backside of his cover being the landscape from where the ending scene of Spring Day was filmed and the release time teaser for Scenery being posted with a picture of the train station used in Spring Day. This is of course also why I feel rather confident about the sounds of walking in snow and the train bell being there as Spring Day references.

The time for the release of the teaser photo with the picture from the scenery of Spring Day was possibly related to 4 o’clock as the time when the tweet was sent 6:09 was the same as the date 4 o’clock was released. 

The fact that Scenery is about the importance of photographs and what feelings they carry should also not be ignored, so since Taehyung used two different pictures from Spring Day to promote Scenery it likely has a purpose and meaning behind it.

Also the name of the train station in Spring Day was Iryeong/Ilyeong station, which translates to 1 (il) and 0 (yeong) which also matches the time 10 o’clock when Taehyung released Scenery. Meaning they do pay attention to details on purpose at some points, we just can’t know for sure when.

It might be nothing but considering that the name of the station is basically 10 and Jimin tweeted two days before the release of Taehyung’s teaser (on the 28th of January) saying “10:13 o’clock” which is basically “Jimin o’clock”, I wanted to mention it. Jimin also tweeted a picture of him and Taehyung before the release of the song and a lot of other possible Vmin things you can read about in my bigger analysis Vmin - Scenery, Promise and song connections.

Still, for Scenery we get a very obvious connection and two links back to Spring Day with the photos posted. The photography theme and the sound of walking in snow could also be worth taking into account. On top of that we have the continued similar narrative about wanting to be with this other person and wondering what the future might bring for them. It’s a romantic song, and it has direct connections to Spring Day while also matching many other themes Taehyung has used.

Winter Bear 

Winter Bear of course has the theme of winter. But much like Happy Christmas it’s depiction of winter is a lot happier (though in Happy Christmas it was not the winter itself that was happy, but rather making Christmas when they finally get to be together). We have hope and the person Taehyung is singing about is able to sleep. I want to contrast this to earlier in Singularity and of course in Spring Day when they talk about “sleepless nights”. Following Scenery we get something that could indicate a comfortableness and acceptance of the night even further. Again, assuming night and winter have indicated difficult times we here instead see something like being content or even happy with the night/winter. 

She looks like a blue parrot Would you come fly to me? I want some good day, good day, good day Good day, good day

Looks like a winter bear You sleep so happily I wish you a good night, good night, good night

We have the sense of it being a lullaby, and it references both winter and sleeping, but again in a very sweet and positive light, for at least one of the two. They are not together, but Taehyung once again wonders if the other person would come to him. We also have a person being directly connected to the winter.

He is also happy to let them sleep. The Winter Bear lyrics point out how the other person is sleeping happily and Taehyung of course also uses "I wish you a good night" while also saying he wants a Good Day. Similar to 4 o’clock, we still have the night be some sort of comfort for at least one person, but it’s clear that Taehyung wants and wishes for a good day.

Going from Spring Day’s “And how many sleepless nights do I have to spend” to “You sleep so happily” this is a possible change in narrative that I think we see more of moving forward as well. We have started to move away from the sleepless nights. However, since Taehyung is watching another person sleep it is very possible his nights are still sleepless, but that he still wishes the other a good night and seems happy to see them sleep. He talks about imagining this other person saying Hello to him and how basically when they are together the bad days are nothing. Once again there is this person in Taehyung’s life that seems to brighten it simply by being with him. Maybe it’s ARMY, but there is also Jimin who starts off “Friends” with “Hello my alien” and whom Taehyung often talk about helping him cope with his difficulties.

Another possible interpretation is that Winter Bear is literally describing a period of hibernation. That during this period of winter it’s basically a period of being “on hold”, and they are simply waiting for spring to come.

Further there is also a direct connection between Winter Bear and Spring Day, believe it or not. The Day after Taehyung released Winter Bear he went on weverse and quoted Namjoon's part in Spring Day about there being Winter in august. Winter Bear was released in August you see.

The line about “Winter in August” if you can recall was a movie reference in Spring Day from a romantic drama named Christmas in August.

The movie also kind of has an emphasis on taking photos and capturing moments in time, so maybe that’s something Taehyung could like and relate to as well. With the whole theme of taking photos and how much it means to Taehyung and his storytelling I also keep thinking that Jimin using photos taken by Taehyung on the cover of Promise and Jimin posting a photo of him and Tae before the release of Scenery might have a bigger importance than what we might think.

Further it’s possible the scene of Taehyung walking in the Winter Bear MV could be meant to evoke the similar-looking scene with Jimin in Spring Day. Though that is definitely a stretch with nothing except similarity to lean on.

Winter Bear doesn’t really have any big direct connection to Jimin, except that we know that Jimin loves the song a lot and promoted it very much, and in a way that felt it might mean a lot to him too. You can of course read about this in Vmin - Winter Bear analysis. But there is the cover having two bears that Jimin gifted Taehyung, and the fact that Jimin has used the song as a lullaby. Which matches with the “you sleep so happily” theme. We have as I mentioned moved away from the sleepless nights at least partly or for one of the two friends.

Taehyung still wishes for a good day, a better and happier future for him and this other person, but he also wishes them a good night.

Friends

You might not have thought much of it, but Friends actually has a few similarities to Spring Day that are quite obvious. First there is of course the actual friend theme we have in Spring Day “How much longing should we see snowing down. To have the days of spring, Friend” and “You know it all. You’re my best friend. The morning will come again”.

But we also have “You know it all” from Spring Day which fits with Friends’ lyrics “I know everything about you. We gotta trust each other” and perhaps most importantly “Longer than seven summers and cold winters. Longer than numerous promises and memories” which of course matches very well with Vmin being caught together in the cold winter, waiting for spring to come for a long time during some difficult periods they have gone through together.

Lastly we also have ”For eternity, keep staying here, stay” which have a similar message as the end of Spring Day with “Please stay, please stay there a little longer”. Vmin are just like the friends in Spring day reaching out and asking the other person to stay. Though in Friends this request has turned into wanting to be together for eternity. In Friends they also finally seem to be together in some sense, even though there could be a wish for more hidden in there.

Looking at the lyrics and message of Friends it's possible that we have come to a change in their perspective. They are ok to wait in the night or winter. But they also promise to be together and hope for the other person to stay beside them. "One day when this cheer dies down, stay". Meaning in this case they want to be together after their careers as idols. If we can include Friends in the whole narrative, it seems they are sure of their want to be together, though they are still asking the other to stay.

If we consider romantic feelings being involved I would say they could be waiting for the right time to be together as something else than best friends. Considering it's from Jimin it could even possibly be considered a reply to Taehyung's uncertainties. And going from their wondering and confusion and longing they are now more patient and might have found some middle-ground way to cope. It could also literally be seen as a promise between them to be together. Being together as Friends and waiting is the dawn they share while they wait for the morning. It’s a metaphorical spring in winter, instead of the winter in August, because even if they haven’t actually reached spring together they are together now and content enough to wait together. Or perhaps spring is getting closer and they don’t mind the winter as much now when they know they are at least waiting together and want the same thing.

The line in Friends about "we are each other's mystery, is that why it is even more special" could also be an indicator that some "hidden" or even "forbidden" aspect of their relationship might have made it special. There could be a fear in what would change if anything actually happened or if they would be allowed to openly be together. Hence looking forward to the next song, Sweet Night, the hesitation to pull the other closer and how the night is something sweet even though it might have been their "only way" as ships in the night.

Having used these lines in Friends is of course possible on it’s own, and doesn’t have to connect to the other songs just because of similar themes, but there are possible connections and even if they could be nothing I don’t think they are to be dismissed either. 

While not in the lyrics we also have them holding hands in the performance of Friends, which of course also matches with “I want to go to the other side of Earth, holding your hand.”

Either way we know the feelings they have for each other are strong, and that they consider each other soulmates that want to be together even after BTS. They express their love for each other very often and in ways that are rather unusual for a platonic relationship (though obviously not impossible) and no matter what those feelings are they clearly love each other a lot. Sweet night

Sweet Night is yet another song about night, and how Taehyung can’t sleep. “On my pillow. Can't get me tired”. He still has those sleepless nights that the friends in Spring Day suffer from. We also see the longing there “And would it be alright if I pulled you closer”, with some hesitance to do so, as he doesn’t seem to know if it’s ok or not. Even so, we can definitely tell by the title alone that the night in itself truly isn’t something he hates, but rather the opposite. The night is after all sweet. It carries hope, even though the lyrics indicate a lot of uncertainties.

It’s also significant that Taehyung is saying that he is “Sharing my fragile truth” with this song. To me more and more it seems like he has tried in many of his songs to tell us different pieces of the same complex story that he is trying to understand. 

Sweet night being a song by Taehyung released right after Friends is on it’s own quite a lot. Of course this means the theme of best friends used in Sweet Night “I'm wondering. Are you my best friend” is relevant both in relation to Spring Day and possibly to Jimin because of the timing and how Taehyung has literally named Jimin his one and only best friend, many times even.

In the song Taehyung has questions, and as in other songs like Scenery he is wondering about the past and the future with this person. He is also describing them as ships in the night, which makes us wonder if perhaps they are a product of the night only. Like the children of the moon in 4 o’clock the sun and day might not be for them. I think him wondering if he can pull this person closer could be about being more open and stepping out into the light. If you’ve read my post Sweet Night - Song analysis you might be aware I think the song is very unsure, and I think it’s possible the narrative could be about the past or possibly about still treading the line between friends and more despite knowing his own feelings. Taehyung might be wondering if there is something there between him and this other person, as he seems to think the other person might feel the same as him, though he isn’t sure.

I’m wondering Are you my best friend Feel’s like a river’s rushing through my mind I wanna ask you If this is all just in my head My heart is pounding tonight I wonder If you Are too good to be true And would it be alright if I Pulled you closer How could I know One day I’d wake up feeling more

What I want to say about Sweet Night is that we by now know it’s personal. Most of us already thought so, even though it wasn’t confirmed, thanks to the interview Tae and Namjoon had right around the song’s release.

However, him singing a romantic song about feelings changing for a best friend in combination with the way he is with Jimin is on it’s own significant for the whole picture. Especially since we now know that it was a personal song that was originally supposed to be on Taehyung’s mixtape.

The lullabys and Tae’s inability to sleep properly are definitely a recurring theme for his songs. I still don’t know about the timing of Taehyung’s feelings, but honestly if we consider a Vmin perspective  it could work with being something Taehyung felt around the time of the dumpling fight, as he might have realized his feelings changing. Meaning the actual scenario in the song with “how could I know one day I would wake up feeling more” could be based on older realization, but the sentiment of wanting to be with this person and pulling them closer could still be his current feelings.

Taehyung openly telling us that it is a personal song, and the contents of the song being romantic sounding, has now opened up discussions of his love life. I wonder if he is aware of this and if he simply doesn't care what his fans might think and speculate about at this point.

Inner Child

I debated if I should talk about Inner Child or not, but in the end decided to at least mention the lyrics. We have no idea if this is just a case of Tae having a preference for these words, expressions or themes, but he certainly uses them a lot.

Tonight, if I reach my hand to yours Can you hold that hand? I'll become you

You just have to look at my galaxies Be showered with all those stars I'll give you my world The lights illuminating your eyes

You kind of have the giving my world and “I’ll become you” which we have seen in Serendipity’s “You are me, I am you”, “My angel, my world” and the whole extra bridge in the full version:

Come to my side now So we can become one I don't want to let go- no Do I just have to treasure it

Although you say nothing I feel it There are many more stars Together we're flying It's never over

Don't be nervous and grab my hand Cause now we are one Let me love you

So we have Jimin asking the other person to let him love them, and we have him asking them to come to his side which matches with Spring Day’s “I want to go to the other side of Earth, holding your hand, put an end to winter” and then again with some of the lyrics in Inner Child about reaching out a hand and becoming one.

Besides the reaching out his hand theme being in Spring Day we have seen Taehyung use it in Happy Christmas, Snow Flower and Blue & Grey. Snow Flower also has the “I'll give you the world (I'll give it to you)”. But since this song is meant to be about Taehyung’s younger self, perhaps this is a good example of how he can use similar themes simply because he likes them and not because the songs are necessarily connected or about another particular person.

Honestly, if it weren’t for Taehyung telling us that Inner Child is about and to himself, I would see this as a very LGBT+ friendly song about realizing your feelings for someone and taking the chance and acting on them. Likewise I could even make a case for the lyrics of Filter together with Inner Child, but if anything it might just show how anything can be made to fit if you just look for connections. 

Inner Child: We gon' change. Filter: We’ll become a new us

It’s just funny how both songs uses a lot of similar words, and “we” when referring to themselves and how they will change, but in the end I felt it wasn’t enough to include Filter.

Songs like Inner Child and Blue and Grey are songs I wouldn’t normally use in a Vmin context, but I decided to include both as a way to show the similar themes, and as an example of me perhaps reading too much into all the lyrical connections.

Blue & Grey

There are of course also some references in “Blue & Grey” which I briefly want to mention, especially since it was supposed to be a song on Taehyung’s solo album. I know it’s about burn-out (very relatable) and Taehyung’s feelings of sadness. But the lyrics still work very well in the full narrative and seemingly include a second person (or ARMY) that helps him.

I just wanna be happier Melt me, I’m cold I’ve reached out my hand countless times

I still feel my heart Breathe faster like when I walked on the cold winter streets Don't say you're fine 'Cause you're not Please don't leave me alone, it hurts too much Please feel the warmth in my hands They're cold, that's why I need more of you

I think you can quickly see how the cold, the melting and the reaching out of the hand are lyrics we have seen before from Taehyung. Most recently in Snow Flower of course “Feel the warmth next to me. Hold me with your cold and soft hands” and where he directly references Blue & Grey “Your warmth will melt my blue and grey away”. Not only does it fit with Taehyung’s other song, but he has literally told us Jimin’s smile can take away his blue feelings, and that Jimin is the warmest person that he knows.

We once again have this theme of hands as in Happy Christmas “Never let go of my both hands” and of course in Spring Day “Wanna get to the other side of the earth, holding your hand”. I think that Taehyung has an image of the story he wants to tell as he seems to on purpose leave a lot of references back and forth between several of his songs. Or at the very least seem to be thinking a lot of similar things as tells his stories in his songs.

With the holding of hands and needing the warmth of the other we also see once again that what has changed is that they are together in the winter. They can endure the cold despite the hurt, but only together. Taehyung needs the other person next to him, he wants to hold their (also cold) hand because that is what he says will help him feel happier.

Don't say you're fine 'Cause you're not

Is also quite matching as a sentiment towards Jimin's lyrics in Promise "I say that it's all okay. The truth is, it doesn’t seem so". I know Yoongi wrote this line, but Taehyung did like it enough to even change parts of the song to match it. It also ended up being the part that Vmin harmonized together.

Further in Blue and Grey we also have the very end of it.

After secretly taking back words floating in the air I now fall asleep at dawn, good night

Once again in Taehyung’s style he also seems to leave a hint that this is a personal song and his feelings. As with “Sharing my fragile truth” in Sweet Night and later “I'll sing this song” in Snow Flower. Of course he has also told us it’s personal, but I mean he likes to include hints in his songs about it being his thoughts.

Not only are there words he is secretly taking back, but they are floating in the air. Of course this doesn’t have to be a Spring Day reference, but it does fit Jimin’s part “Like the tiny dust, tiny dust floating in the air”. It also feels like Vmin. The way Taehyung has over the years mentioned Jimin in various ways or even told us about how some of his songs are connected to Jimin. The words are out there floating in the air, but revealed in small doses, sometimes even getting backtracked as when Namjoon removed the part about Jimin in his 4 o’clock message. It's all out there but not explicitly. Taehyung expresses his feelings but takes it back, secretly. To me even if this isn't about Jimin it does indicate there are things Taehyung wants to say, and even does say, but that he has to be careful about.

Then there is the fact that Taehyung finally falls asleep and can tell us all good night himself. He really loves the night and has used the theme very much in several of his songs. He finally seems to be at some peace. 

He also directly references dawn. Which feels like it could have a connection to 4 o'clock and Taehyung's feelings and in extension Jimin. Once again the dawn, somewhere between the night and the morning, seems to be where they are the most at peace. Similar to my interpretation of 4 o'clock in my very first song analysis, this in between moment is the place they have now and finally Tae is able to fall asleep somewhat content.

However, I don’t know how much of the song was changed from the original, so I also think we need to acknowledge the lyrics of Taehyung’s original version of Blue & Grey including more sombre words (if the translation is correct):

I just wanna be happier Baby don't let me go I feel tired in the winter sky Wish I could be stronger...

This makes the song both romantic, includes the theme of winter and has Taehyung express worry about the other person letting go and that he wishes he was stronger in this whole ordeal. All very fitting in the full narrative if we consider Vmin and their songs pointing at the struggles of wanting something they can’t truly have right now. For example having to be only friends at the moment.

I really have no clue if Blue & Grey is or was meant to be a possible Vmin song, but if there is a cohesive narrative that Taehyung is taking parts from to use in his songs it wouldn’t really surprise me if he at least sees Jimin as a comfort in his difficult times, similar to as when he wrote 4 o’clock.

So while this song is not only Taehyung’s and has been changed a lot, I still felt the sentiment in it (together with the earlier version) was interesting for this possible narrative that Taehyung has someone he loves and wants to be with. It could be ARMY, it could be someone else, but it also works with Jimin in particular.

Christmas love

I have yet to write a proper analysis of Christmas love and Snow Flower, so I might have gone into a bit more than just things related to Spring Day. But the most important theme is the thing both songs have in common with each other and with Spring Day, which is of course the winter and cold and what it could mean to them.

If we look at some of the lyrics from Jimin’s Christmas love and how much he cherishes the snow and Christmas in a very romantic way, if there are connections between the themes it could further point at how “winter” has become something that is theirs and that they cherish. So let’s say winter and snow and cold represents not being together, hiding and difficult times at first, then the view might now have shifted and that while they are together in difficult times, they do have each other. Maybe not fully in the way they want, but with the promise of a future together. Just as the night now seems sweet, the winter is happy as we see with the Christmas season.

In Christmas love “For me who's been waiting for you, Could you stay a little bit longer?” We once again have the theme of staying and waiting for someone (though in Jimin’s song it seems to be about waiting for winter/Christmas, but it doesn’t always have to be about a singular thing). 

For me this could bear similar meaning as the night vs. day references of being together and having each other in the dark, while being blinded and scared of the light. Even though they do wish for being together in the day or spring, the dark and winter is what they have now and they in a way cherish that too simply because they go through it together. (We are each other’s mystery, is that what makes it more special?)

Just as with Promise, this song’s possible connection will be much more vague and possibly coincidence. In particular since it is after all a Christmas song and having snow as a theme won’t be weird at all. But, it does fit very well with the transition from winter being harsh, to now having come to love it and even looking forward to parts of it. We also can’t completely ignore that both Jimin and Taehyung did write a Christmas song each, releasing them right after each other.  Especially after Taehyung letting us know about his original Christmas song and how he wasn’t allowed to sing it with Jimin. 

Let’s see some of the more particular similarities. 

Oh I been waitin' for this Christmas Day My heart is already on this white street It snowed in my dream last night You've been waiting all day under the covers

We once again have waiting and if we look at the difference between the narrative in Spring Day and this song, we have gone from “Time’s so cruel, I hate us” to “I hope today lasts forever”. Similar to going from waiting for spring or the morning to finding some happiness in the winter and the night, we can suspect that the waiting either has changed or that they have come more to terms with the time and state they currently are in. Jimin sings later again that he has been waiting. “I've been waiting for. Today it's Christmas Day”. There is both a “I’ve been” and a “you’ve been” waiting which also makes the waiting from two perspectives.

We have the mention of a street, but now instead of a flower road it is a white one. Jimin’s heart is in winter, and he associates snow and Christmas with something positive, similar to Taehyung in Happy Christmas or even Winter Bear.

We also have the theme of sleeping and dreaming. If we include the perspective of Winter Bear here it also aligns with Jimin being the one seemingly able to sleep but Taehyung having trouble (or at least being more honest with letting it show). There is also waiting under the covers. It seems possible Jimin could be dreaming and sleeping while Taehyung still has trouble sleeping, but has come to appreciate the night nonetheless. In both the cases of night and winter the tone has gradually gone from sadness and longing, to acceptance and love.

If anyone is listening to me Will you let the time stop now? Christmas I love you Like the white snow Fallen snow You come down on my day Christmas I love you Oh, you're the one I hope today lasts Forever To be honest, I'm afraid you'll leave Because today is short I've been waiting for you all this time Can you stay with me a little bit longer?

There is also some insecurity, in having waited for so long, now they are afraid it will end too soon. Something we also see in Spring Day with the “Yes I hate you, you left me. But I never stopped thinking about you, not even a day” but we also know both songs end up with the perspective of wanting to be together.

Once again we see the use of “stay” which can relate back to both Spring Day and Friends. Same with forever. But all in all considering the feeling of wanting time to stop, there really is a huge difference over time. It’s like the waiting is almost over, even though they still seem to be in Winter. 

What we hear in the lyrics is that Jimin wants this to last, to stop time, and be together forever. Using “you are the one” also makes it feel more like a romantic declaration than simply just loving the Christmas season in itself. But we also have to keep in mind this is Jimin’s song, and most songs have been Taehyung’s. So perhaps it’s not part of the same changing narrative at all, but is simply something unrelated that Jimin wrote. (Again, most songs could be argued to be to or about ARMY).

Jimin said this when the song was released:

I do find it a little odd how he speaks about hiding his emotions, though I guess it could simply be him being a bit embarrassed to share his “childish” thoughts and emotions with us or the struggles he feels in regards to not being able to perform and meet fans. It’s also funny how he talks about wanting to turn back time to simpler days of his childhood. But at the very least this shows that BTS certainly can get inspiration and sing about things they have felt that they aren’t feeling or experiencing any more.

As for Jimin’s message about the song it seems straightforward enough, but with the way a magazine phrased it I couldn’t help but include it.

“BTS’s Jimin is doing his bit to brighten up everyone’s Christmas by dropping a special festive song.  On Christmas Eve, the K-pop star released his solo effort Christmas Love, in the hopes that ARMYs would embrace their inner children around the holidays. The sweet song is all about Jimin’s memories of Christmas, and is packed full of jingle bells for that festive feel. After dropping the surprise song, Jimin shared a blog post for ARMYs explaining the inspiration behind Christmas Love.”

Obviously this is just one person’s comment on the song and doesn’t actually mean anything, but considering Taehyung has his song Inner Child (and that Jimin has said that Taehyung still has that innocence of a child) I just thought it was a fun little anecdote.

I remind you that Jimin himself back in 2016 also said he wanted to sing a Christmas song as a gift to the one he loves. Accidentally saying "we" and also matching well with Taehyung starting to write a Christmas song for them to sing together. That same Christmas they also released a clip each of them singing a Christmas song with Jimin's being a reply to Taehyung's.

In the end it’s the timing and the repeated themes of “stay” and “waiting” that he talks about in a way that sounds rather romantic that fits this narrative the most. 

Snow Flower

Just as Happy Christmas and Christmas love this song has a positive attitude towards the winter and of course Christmas itself. We can tell that we are in winter, but they are in both songs fairly content with that at this point.

Hey snow It's coming today What else should I prepare? I’m ready to greet you, ok (Ok) Grey is Fallin' on the canvas You can just cover it white I'll give you the world (I'll give it to you) In this cold season You are my special event Your warmth will melt My blue and grey away (o-o-oh)

What we see is that Taehyung is ready. Ready for the cold and accepting of the snow. He says this other is their special event and their “warmth will melt my blue and grey away”. It’s this other that helps him through the cold, makes him ready to greet it and makes it all special. It’s very similar to the sentiment of Happy Christmas where it’s the two of them together that basically makes Christmas. We can also see that the white will cover the grey, so we literally have him getting comfort out of the snow and winter at this point if we put the songs together.

We also have lyrics like “I'll give you the world (I'll give it to you) In the cold season” which could honestly represent the same thing as in Spring Day, with the cold season being the time of difficulties. (We also have him use a similar line in Inner Child which is partly why I decided to include it: I'll give you my world) 

But they are in this together, which means that if Taehyung is inspired by Spring Day and the theme of winter being a difficult time, he has in his songs (Winter Bear, Happy Christmas and Snow Flower) managed to find even happiness and beauty in this difficult time. In particular together with this possible other special person.

Christmas without you would just not be Christmas at all Bright mistletoes up above us, it's just you and me (I love you)

Just as in 4 o’clock it’s just “you and me” there in the song. And just like in Happy Christmas, it’s definitely a romantic sentiment. If we look at it in a possible timeline, perhaps Christmas is the last step before we come into the actual spring. But at this point or at least in these songs, it seems there is no hurry to leave. Christmas is basically being happy and finding something good in the middle of winter. We also see that to Taehyung this happy time exists because of this other person being there. Which works well with Winter being harsh turning into a Happy Christmas simply because of this other person.

When the world is full of white flowers May our times be more special (eh-e) When time is standing still May these flowers fall on your sad smile (e-e-eh)

We can see that not all is happy, but perhaps something in between? He describes a sad smile and it really seems Taehyung and this other person have a difficult time but being together helps them. We have white flowers falling and metaphorically or not it reminds us of the snow in Spring Day perhaps being mistaken for flowers. The flowers are now falling in winter in Taehyung’s song. We also have Taehyung hope for their time in winter to be more special, which again could match with Friends' "We are each other’s mystery, is that why it’s even more special". They have each other to warm each other up in the cold season now.

When the world turns beautifully white I'll spread those fading colors with you There's a lot of white angels here and there this year Take a deep breath and look at those flowers that look like you Feel the warmth next to me Hold me with your cold and soft hands I'll keep you safe Let the white snow fall on us forever

An alternative translation “I'll let the white snow fall forever with you”. If we all put these songs together, it’s really possible that by now Taehyung has accepted and doesn't mind the cold winter seasons as long as they get to be together in some way. He will keep them safe, away from the suffocating sun. Just as "Christmas without you would just not be Christmas at all" he needs this person with him to be happy in the winter even if it's in a way he doesn't want or at least isn’t the ideal way he would wish for. If we talk about keeping another person safe it also of course matches with Serendipity’s “You're my penicillium, saving me, saving me. My angel, my world” which again has a direct line between Vmin because of Taehyung’s choice of contact name for Jimin. (You could also go back to Lie and Stigma, but I won’t in this post as I have talked about it before.)

He is by now happy to be with this person forever, even with the snow falling. Again, remember the use of snow falling in Spring Day and how they wish it will be flowers falling instead? “How much longing should we see snowing down” and “Maybe it’s cherry blossoms and this winter will be over” but here Taehyung thinks it’s more ok for the white snow to fall forever and there are still flowers present.

Did you see the snow? Like your eyes Believe in Santa Claus? I'll take away A warm gift with you Every time this season comes, like the tip of your nose, let's Fall in love I'm just feeling Stay by my side I'll match your footsteps I'll sing this song (You make me wanna be a better man)

Once again you also have it clear it’s a romantic song, and once again we also hear the plea of staying, like in Spring Day and Friends (and Christmas Love). I also think the line of the footsteps could be a possible link to this line in Scenery “If you leave footprints I’ll keep it warm” and about the two now being side by side instead of one following the other trying to reach them. 

(A small detail here is that the line “You make me wanna be a better man” could likely be from the movie “As good as it gets”, and while it’s not part of the main story or connected to the quote, there is a secondary character who is gay man; an artist that has a small dog. I mean it’s probably more of a stereotype of the time but I wanted to include it.)

I think you can see the overall changes matches no matter if we talk about night, winter, waiting or being together. We have gone from being apart to being together and from being sad about winter to finding some joy in it. There is sadness there, and they know it, but they can still give each other some happiness and warmth.

When the world is full of white flowers May our feelings grow deeper and deeper May the flowers land on your smile Below the streetlamp frozen in time (Yeah-e)

There is also a mention of a smile, and together with holding hands that is another one of Taehyung’s favorites to include. He has it in Happy Christmas where it is also seemingly under a light, though not specifically a streetlamp “Under the light, at your smile, the stars are shy”.

The flowers are now white, and possibly instead of hoping the snow will be flowers, to them the snow really has become flowers even if we haven't gotten to spring. Basically their own spring is in the winter now. Or perhaps rather than waiting for spring the same way they have instead found their Christmas together.  It's a change in perspective.

Looking at the cover art for Snow Flower we also see the boy protecting a purple flower from the snow, which matches with the lyrics “I'll keep you safe”. This might be a reach, but if the purple flower is to represent “I purple you” and someone that Taehyung wants to protect, we do have the possibility of that being Jimin because of his previous comments about “Not Tata” being the face of I purple you. Basically Jimin could be a person that represents the feeling of “I purple you” to Taehyung.

You can read more about it in my posts Tata and Jimin and Big Hit, BTS, Vmin and LGBT but in short Taehyung used to draw Jimin the way Tata looks, and in the vlive when he talked about Happy Christmas and how he couldn’t sing it with Jimin he also holds up a picture of “Not Tata” and says it’s the “face of I purple you”.

The flower in the cover is likely supposed to be a crocus, which is a purple flower that blooms early in spring when there is still snow left. I don’t know if it’s the same in Korea or if Taehyung is aware, but the meaning of the crocus is actually hope, and that “Winter will indeed end, and spring will come again...”

If so, the whole meaning of Snow Flower might indeed be to hold on as the season is about to change. 

Before moving on I just want to point out that Jimin and Taehyung both released Christmas songs back to back, and a different translation of Snow Flower has the line “I’m gonna sing this song in step with you” and honestly if that translation is accurate it does seem like a possible nod to Jimin releasing a Christmas song at the same time. Which is also interesting since both Taehyung and Jimin seemed to hurry and write their Christmas songs and Jimin apparently wasn’t even sure he would make it on time at all.

Each of them also have the lyrics include “I love you” and “Will you let the time stop now?/When time is standing still.” along with the themes of waiting and this time being happy about the falling snow. Also of course asking the other to stay “Can you stay with me a little bit longer?” and “Stay by my side” which at least in sentiment matches with their feelings for each other as expressed in Friends.

Spring Day (Taehyung version)

Let’s also take a moment to look at Taehyung’s version of Spring Day, which was not used but which we have heard him mention and even play snippets of a few times. He seems to be really proud of it, and rather salty to be frank that they ended up using Namjoon’s version.

We have him tweet a short part of it on march 19th 2017. The same day he also had a vlive that is no longer available since it was only put on the vlive + channel where he played the version for the first time. 

It’s also around the time they recorded their Spine Breaker MV (Tae plays the song in his vlive) while in Chile, aka Taehyung’s “if I am feeling blue your smile will cheer me up” period and in general just a height of Vmin moments. (Tae/kookers have a lot of theories here, but sharing a room was something Vmin did literally two days before this live so I am not sure it proves anything even if members are sharing rooms at this point). 

This version is clearly romantic, and the lyrics are something like:

Remember that Spring Day, Don't Forget it Remember your dreams, Don't Give up I fallin' you, I fallin' Cause maybe for your love (or forever?) Cause baby for that love Cause baby for love

Of course guide lyrics don’t have to mean much, and since he has mostly talked about making the melody I am not sure if the lyrics are even his or not. But it does at least show a somewhat romantic theme that also feels a bit similar to Tae’s “Happy Christmas” with “Hotter than coco, i'm fallin'”. I wanted to include it because Taehyung really does seem to use very romantic words and expressions in his songs quite consistently since 2017. But mostly because behind the scenes there was at least a time when Spring Day was romantic.

In his version we also have the possibility of Tae being of the perspective that they have promised each other spring and he doesn't want the other person to forget or give up on that dream. Or perhaps that they will focus on their careers and to reach their dreams but to remember their love and that waiting to be together is worth it. Imagine if they actually have promised each other to wait for a better time, after the cheers die down, and keep reminding each other of that promise and their wish to be together in their songs? Reassuring each other of their promises and asking the other to wait for them.

In Friends you also have them singing, reminding themselves of their promises and this section "Never forget. More than the plain “thank you”. You and me. Decided not to fight tomorrow for real."

So imagine if they use songs to express patience and the hardships of waiting while reassuring each other of their longing and promises. They want the other to remember what they are waiting for and why. Which also makes me look at Vmin singing "I remember" several times to each other during their shared part in Life goes on a bit differently. After all most of this post is about how they can relate to songs even if they aren't about them specifically.

In fact the whole lyrics to that song could easily be included in this analysis, which could point at it not being personal or at them really just liking to use these themes a lot. It also matches the lyrics of Friends and at this point I feel like I can just make almost all songs connect in one way or another. (Check out the lyrics if you want to know what I mean, because truly with the way all these other songs sound Life Goes On fits right in with them, even if the narrative becomes a bit odd.)

But, in short, considering their “numerus promises and memories” mentioned it Friends and in line with their songs it’s possible Vmin know what they want from each other, but are prepared to wait, and have finally started to find some good compromises with being stuck in a winter or night where they have to stay hidden or even apart to some extent. They have promises of the future, and they constantly remind themselves and each other to wait and to stay together.

Sleep

Before moving on to things outside their songs there is also the small unreleased teaser song Taehyung has shown us that might end up on his album that he posted on the morning (4.24 am) of the 21th of April 2021 that he captioned with “Sleep”. Here is the translation provided by @btstranslation7 on twitter.

The silent night approaches me and when i look towards the window with an empty gaze I see the clouds outside are still walking [in the sky] and the ruffling of my bed covers Slowly, slowly fades away Slowly, slowly the night fades away The night’s become warm and a comfort to me Can I go to bed & sleep tonight? May I lean my body on you now I’m leaving to sing another story of mine But I’ll be back again May i lean my body on you, tonight Day and night, I think of you In my dream

I think you understand why I felt like I should include it, considering the night and sleeping theme. First as you see the general themes are all things we have seen many times, but we also have similarities with Jimin’s Christmas love with the line “You've been waiting all day under the covers”. Being under the covers could of course also be another possible metaphor for being hidden away in some form. If the ruffling of the sheet fades, and the night fades and Taehyung is finally able to lean his body on the other person and also fall asleep, there has for sure been a change. 

This song speaking about the night fading away and how “the night’s become warm and a comfort to me” is very interesting. Because it basically tells the story I have suspected, with the change and progress over these songs and years. The night isn’t cold anymore and he asks if he can finally go to bed and sleep. It’s not a completely happy song, but it’s definitely a very positive progress. Just like the Winter having Christmas the night has warmth now. He also asks if he may lean his body on this other person, and it all just sounds like we are at a turning point. The waiting and the longing is in some sense over. They are here too just one small step away from being together properly and perhaps it’s the thought of them finally being together (in some form) that allows Taehyung to sleep.

The line "Day and night, I think of you" also makes me think of both Jimin's quote "In Taehyung's head there is only me" and that time Taehyung replied to a post on fan café asking "why aren't you sleeping?" with "so that Jimin can dream".

A reason this song is so interesting is also because of the “may I lean my body on you know”, because unlike many other of Taehyung’s songs this doesn’t feel as easily explained away as being about ARMY. Of course it could be that he misses being with the fans and adds those feelings in a more “romantic/sexual” setting of a one on one. But that line in combination with actually leaving the person in the night to go and sing tells a story I have a hard time seeing as something other than a wish from Taehyung about a particular person he wants to be with.

He also says he is leaving to “sing another story of mine” which also could indicate most of Taehyung’s songs are personal things he wants us to know and express as openly as possible. We can see a story, seemingly one story told in various ways over many songs in different times with different angles. But one story all the same; Taehyung’s story.

I think if we look at every song there are a substantial amount of similarities criss crossed between them. Once again it could simply be a certain love for the themes, but considering how well at least Taehyung’s songs match each other and how he has said several of them are personal, I think it’s very possible these songs could be about his feelings for the same person. Perhaps it’s just his love for ARMY or his struggles with fame and depression, but honestly there are many indications of there being a romantic love involved.  It doesn’t have to be about Jimin even if it is romantic, but it does fit very well.

Thank you! I am looking forward to it too. This is one of the longest analyses I’ve made that is all on the same topic, so I just hope you will find it interesting and manages to read through it all.

I have finished part 1 and 2 as drafts on Tumblr for now, and then I think I have one part more, or perhaps two. Like I said it should hopefully be done this week as long as I get the time to sit down and finish it (it seriously takes way too long to remake a post on Tumblr even if I have all the material done, on Patreon I simply had to copy-paste it and it was done).

Also, I know I’ve been calling it a “Spring Day analysis” since forever, but that might be a bit misleading... It’s grown into something bigger now. I am calling the post “Vmin song analysis - Winter in August” and it’s basically going through a lot of songs and their similar themes, as well as their more direct connections to Spring Day.

Also, this analysis is possibly just me over thinking things because it’s always possible it’s meant to be connected but for other reasons. Perhaps for example they write with ARMY in mind or in regards to the Persona theme... But it does fit very well with Vmin and I think you will see why I thought it was interesting enough to talk about once it’s out.

Of course. I am talking about pretty much every Vmin solo song in it. So it is about Spring Day, but also their other songs. It's perhaps better to call it a collective song analysis but with Spring Day at its core. The thing about Vmin is that so many things connect. I can't tell if I am going crazy and is seeing things that aren't really there at this point. But it's fun speculation either way.

Hi @vminforeva, I’m not going to lie... I’ve had a few rough weeks, so I honestly haven’t done a lot for the blog in a while. The thing is that the Spring Day analysis is almost complete (like 95% done), but the problem with why it’s taking time is because I want to do the 4 o’clock analysis first. Because I feel it’s a song that needs it’s own analysis and since the “Spring Day” analysis is more of a collection on ALL Vmin solo songs and themes and connections to Spring Day, I want to do the individual analysis for 4 o’clock first. Because honestly, it’s an important song when it comes to Vmin.

But there is a lot to go through, because of things like the unit interview for example, so it takes time... And sadly though I have started it (like almost 5 months ago) I haven’t been able to write on it properly for a while now.

It is coming, it’s just been a lot in the way lately. Sorry, and hope you understand.

Wasn't 2016 the time Tae was acting and spending a lot of time with his Hwarang hyungs? Jimin mentioned being jealous, even in that SD video tae was convincing JM only to talk to him even if the rest of vocal line was bothering him about it too...I don't really know how far I should go with theories to be honest but this was in my mind since I read your post I really like your theories, you analyze well but not to the point of being delulu lol thank you for your posts

It was indeed. We know Jimin was jealous of the Hwarang cast because not only was he obvious about it, but even got asked about it and confirmed it. And as you say in that Spring day video I also see it as Taehyung being completely focused on Jimin and Jimin’s reaction about it despite JK and Jin being there too and acting annoyed. Taehyung was the most interested in Jimin in that moment if you ask me. Jimin on the other hand basically tried to ignore Taehyung as a petty response. They seem very over it now though. Taehyung actually found it cute, so I don’t think it was too serious.

That being said jealousy doesn’t mean two people have to be in a relationship, it can happen between friends as well. We also need to remember too much jealousy is very toxic and should not be something to desire in any relationship. But at least we don’t have to make analysis to try and find jealousy between Vmin. As with many other things that other shippers seem to want it has been confirmed. We can add jealousy to the list with sleeping together because they want to, having something they do be too gay and thus denied by Big Hit, writing songs about each other and being soulmates.

We have a lot for Vmin that means we don’t have to look too deep to find things between them. But even so these things does not prove any romantic feelings, and that’s something I wish this fandom would realize. We basically can’t prove anything when the most we can do is interpret things as limited viewers.

It’s been a wild couple of days for us Vminies hasn’t it? I haven’t answered asks in a full Ask: Reply post in a while, but I feel like there were a few asks I wanted to reply to so I decided to make one. It might be a bit rushed and short, but I hope you’ll enjoy it anyways.

Ask 1 - Lizzo and Vmin

So, first off I am rather happy that Lizzo loves Vmin and has praised their close bond and friendship so much. I always enjoy it when others see Vmin’s love for each other. As for the shirt with Vmin written on it though...

I do personally think this is a iffy case... I can only imagine what might have happened if her shirt had said any of the two big ships. And honestly I don’t think it should be different just because is happens to be Vmin, but I also have to acknowledge that it is. The one thing saving this situation is how most of the fandom love Vmin platonically, and that Lizzo has been clear it’s in a platonic way she likes them too.

Personally I feel the use of ship names has been blurred for a long time now, and even more so since BTS themselves casually use ship names for their duos at times. I mean, to be fair tae/kook came directly from them and we also have mini/moni etc. being used basically as unit names.

For Vmin within and from BTS their unit name is of course 95z, and in Korea it’s much more distinct between using Vmin/MinV or 95z where Vmin is meant as the ship and 95z meant as the duo. In the international fandom however, this is not the case. At least not anymore. People use Vmin just as much to refer to them as a unit as they do a ship, if not more.

Using a ship name in official matters like BBC Radio 1 or for example interviews etc. still feels very weird though. Think Brangelina instead of Brad and Angelina. The focus is different, and the implications used to be romantic. But again, things have changed. And while I find the change a bit difficult and even problematic in some cases, it’s just the way language works.

I don’t think that ship names should be used in front of the boys or in offical stuff unless it comes from themselves. And that’s because the implication will always be a bit ambigous. Luckily Lizzo has talked about Vmin’s friendship and been clear she isn’t a shipper, and that in combination with Vmin being mostly loved and accepted as platonic soulmates by ARMY, I think this time it hasn’t stirred up too much problems. I also think it’s a bit weird for her to showcase such an obvious bias towards certain members in a performance in general.

Anyways, yeah... I am pretty sure Vmin will see this, and while I also think they surely must know Vmin is their ship name by now, I also hope they don’t feel awkward with this.

Basically, I am happy Lizzo loves Vmin, but I would have liked it better if she didn’t show it in this particular way or if she at least used 95z. I don’t think she knows a lot about shipping and how it works, so I feel her intentions being innocent also helps it from being seen as a bigger issue. The little rap she did I felt was more ok, because while she used the ship name there too it wasn’t anything official. That’s also why BBC1 tweeting it also felt a bit weird... and almost inappropriate.

Anyways, the meaning of shipping is changing, and thus the use of ship names etc. changes too... I can’t help but feel it’s actually a little bit unfair that this is getting a pass by the fandom at large (though I am thankful for it as well in this case) when I know that if that top had ji/kook or tae/kook written on it all hell would break lose.

I still remain of the opinion to keep ship names or any ship agendas away from the boys and places where they can see them. In Lizzo’s case I see it as “ignorance” about shipping culture (and the shipwars) and her earlier claiming them as BFFs and expressing her love for their friendship is what allows it to pass. 

Her being famous and talking specifically about Vmin and their friendship of course also gives more attention put on them. This is something that makes them trend and that will get articles written about it kind of happening. So while it does show Vmin in a great light, and also normalizes their ship name, I do think it was rather clumsy and would rather that she didn’t do it. But I am sure it’s not going to change much in the end... It’s more like a clear sign how things are changing and shifting, and how the line between shipper and fan will get more blurry as time goes.

Sorry for this long reply, it’s a topic I have a lot of opinions on long before this happened, so I might have let some of those feelings out here. Thank you for the ask, hope you found my ponderings interesting.

Ask 2 - BTS and James Corden (cancel culture)

So, from one celeb to another... I think this might be a very divisive topic. All in all I agree with you. First of all, thanks for the ask and thanks for thinking of me as sensible.

I also think he is being dragged unnecessarily for this. Now to be fair I have not seen the full original clip, so of course my stance is a bit lacking. But in general I think that fans of many fandoms (but also ARMY especially since there are so many of us) tend to do a few things too quickly. One is judging harshly, and the other is canceling.

It’s rather a quick and black and white way to react that I in general have a hard time with. It doesn’t allow for any mistakes (even unintentional ones) or a chance to explain nor lead to change if someone truly did something wrong.

In this case I also think his intention was not in a degrading way, but I can also see why so many reacted to it considering the stigma that is already there working against young female fans of anything.

But we also know that James Corden is aware that BTS’s fanbase is diverse and he might even include himself in that category, though perhaps not an ARMY, but as a fan and as a person who knows that BTS are big for a lot of reasons. Watching him and John Cena talk and all the other times he has talked with and met BTS themselves while certainly partly played up (as all hosts) you can tell he’s not looking down on them or ARMY just by the fact that he talks about them in a positive light. (He doesn’t for example jump on “ARMY attacking” this woman etc. Or at leas that’s something I felt watching it.)

In his segment I wish fans instead would have focused on him saying “BTS visited the UN… Although lots of people are saying why are BTS there, the world leaders have no choice but to take BTS seriously.”

I agree it’s unfortunate that he played into the stereotype of “15 year old girls” as it’s a sensitive topic, but I also do think he thinks BTS and ARMY are valid and should be taken seriously. The format of the show is built on jokes... Like you said, I think people took this way out of proportion. In the end I don’t think the intention is to “use BTS for clout” or “to dismiss the fandom as 15 year old girls”. But again, I can’t truly fault people for feeling that way about it.

Thus I rather think the response from upset ARMY is a bigger part of the problem here. Because no matter if James actions were unnesseccary or not I do think intent should matter. And I do think that fans over reacting is in the end more harmful than helpful. There are better ways to go about it than attacking and dragging. Because while I do think this image of BTS fans are all young girls is incorrect, I also think we should realize that a majority of the fandom are young girls, and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, there is a lot of power in this fandom. And saying a fandom has power while also acknowledging it by expressing that a large portion of it consist of girls (or LGBT+, or young people etc.) should also be a good thing. I mean, yes, BTS’s ARMY comes in all shapes and sizes, but why does it have to be seen as an insult that many of ARMY are young women?

Anyways, sorry, I feel I am straying quite a bit and I know this is really messy... I just feel that sometimes some fans shouldn’t be so quick to jump on the cancel train. In general, but in particular when the intent doesn’t seem to be bad.

Ask 3 - Taehyung scrapped his mixtape

Indeed he did... And the odds are there are many songs that will never see the light of day. I really wish he would release them, but I also understand him wanting to release things he feels confident and proud over.

This obviously makes me sad, because I would literally love more or less whatever he chose to put out. It also means we might not get that “continuation of 4 o’clock” (unless it was Blue & Grey or if it’s one of the songs he is keeping). But either way I just want him to be happy with it. And if scrapping 12 songs is what it takes, that’s of course up to him... Still, no matter what Tae will give us in the end I am sure we will like it. Ask 4 -  Bi visibility and a cute memory

Thank you love, for loving my blog and for your ask. Bi visibility is honestly so important and I am glad you felt like sharing your little story with me.

I think this is completely valid to be happy about and no I don’t think it makes you delusional. Even if it is completely unintentional from Jimin there is nothing wrong with feeling happy about it and wishing for it to have meaning. Sometimes it’s the small things we cling to. And while it doesn’t always have the intention the happiness is valid.

Personally I also feel like BTS are using these colors a lot, and I even wrote a piece on it before Vmin - Pink, Blue and purple. So if you are being delusional about it then so am I. Not to mention, even without the intention from BTS themselves is sparks conversations within the fandom, and that’s a good thing all on it’s own too.

Of course we can’t know if it’s done on purpose, but we can’t be at fault for hoping that it is. <3

Ask 5 - Tae can’t stop looking at Jimin in the Vlive

Oh my, this vlive was totally not cooparating with them. In the end we got the prerecored one though. I haven’t watched it in full yet, but wow do I love the Vmin in it. Of course the handholding had to happen, and of course Tae had to tease Jimin about the “I’m sorry” from his speech several times. T-T

I don’t know about Tae being toned down when they came back but what we got definitely showed how attentive Tae is when it comes to Jimin, and really how he adores him so much. <3

I also know Tae/jin and Tae/kook shippers got some good moments out of it, and even used the same “Tae can’t take his eyes off him” type of gushing, but even so... Tae really couldn’t take his eyes off Jimin could he? So sweet. I think what got me the most was how he kept looking at him for so long when he wasn’t even really doing much. And how he turned his head to follow Jimin when he stood up. And just the smile he couldn’t keep off his face.

(Sad to say the gifs didn’t want to work.)

Anyways, really cute and once again just another example of Tae once again showing how much he adores Jimin. The doubters really should realize their logic makes no sense. 95z is love, and that love keeps going strong. <3

This week and the amount of Vmin has hopefully brought some happiness to us all. Sadly I know it will be forgotten again soon enough and the antis will come creeping back. But what can we do, it’s their loss if they can’t see and enjoy Vmin’s love for each other.

Ask 6+7 - Spring Day analysis comments

Thank you both for your lovely words. I am so glad to hear you enjoyed it. It really means a lot, because I really put a lot of time and effort into it, and it kind of makes me even more protective and proud over it. 

I’ve been worried that the post was perhaps too long and too messy for you to read it and like it. I think considering how low the interactions for my posts Vmin analysis - 4 o’clock and Vmin song analysis - Winter in August has been I am probably going to shorten my format of analysing posts from now on.

As for the theme of snow/winter and why I didn’t talk about it (even if I mentioned it briefly in my post Let’s BTS - Vmin analysis) it is because it doesn’t have any obvious direct connections between Vmin. Unlike for example night where we have many examples of them being up late together to wishing each other good night. Mostly they have talked about liking winter on their own, and I didn’t have enough examples of them doing it (Ji/kookers have kind of made Jimin’s love for winter a thing for their ship with their own moments as well) and thus I felt it wasn’t big enough to mention in relation to Vmin specifically.

Anyways, yes, there are always things in my song analysis I chose not to talk about for various reasons. @cottoncandykings​‘ other example too shows this. As you said their more officials songs are always a bit “less” interesting to talk about since it’s more ambigous how much is from themselves. Still interesting, but simply more difficult to know if it’s based on their own feelings or ideas.
