Most of our walks are usually on sidewalks/next to roads, so we will always have Drewbert on a leash. But when we’re on a nature hike and there’s literally no one else but us, we’ve started to practice off-leash walking/heeling. He’s absolutely amazing. He’ll trot alongside us. If one person is lagging behind, he’ll do periodic checks and look back at the straggler (in this video he does it twice, if you pay close attention). If both people stop, he will stop and wait for us. If he sniffs something and we go on ahead of him (we always slow down and keep our eye on him), he’ll run and catch up with us. He doesn’t care about animals and has no prey instinct. We’ve had rabbits run right by us and he didn’t even move an inch. If he starts to stray too much, we call his name and he comes running over immediately and we definitely reward this behavior with treats! We probably won’t do off-leash walking much, but it’s been really fulfilling to see all of our recall and loose leash walking training come into play here. #Drewbert #Walkbert #corgi #rumpday
