Chapter Two> < Chapter Four
“So class, there will be a new student joining us”
“Who changes schools in 10th standard?” Mona whispered.
“Poor thing, I hope she finds it okay” Khushi whispered back.
“Aah here she is,” Madhumati ma’am declared jovially.
All eyes turned comically towards the door.
Khushi looked on as a beautiful girl walked in.
“Thank you ma’am. Hello everyone, my name is Lavanya Kashyap. “
“Well dear” Madhumati ma’am smiled genially, “Tell us more about yourself “
“ I am from St Mary’s. And I was shifted here because my father is moving to London and he wanted me to continue my education in India. “
Her face set in a haughty, bored expression put Khushi off instantly.
“Not such a poor thing after all Khush” Mona smirked.
“That’s nice Lavanya. So let’s see here, Headmaster Manorama has sent a letter assigning you ,your house”
“Red house, you have gained a new member!”
NK hooted, while the rest clapped politely.
“Arnav, please ensure Lavanya gets to see around “
“Yes ma’am “
Arnav’s resounding yes grated on her nerves.
“Lucky bastard!” NK laughed.
“Nikhil, I won’t tolerate such language in my class!”
Khushi looked down at her notebook, drowning out the noise.
All she knew was that she didn’t want Arnav to be the one chaperoning the pretty new girl around. Why couldn’t ma’am have allotted a girl? Or some other boy?
“You are going to break that pencil missy” Preetika whispered from behind her.
Khushi let go of her death grip, oblivious to the knowing looks in her friends eyes.
—————
The bell gongs as the class flutters out for recess.
“Twenty minutes NK. Eat what you want in twenty minutes and I’ll see you on the basketball court “ Aman warned as he rushed out.
“Where is he going? Doesn’t he want to eat with us? “ NK frowned.
“He is dating Naina, you dumbo” Mona said.
“Naina Jha ? Our junior ?”
“Is that surprising?” Preetika asked.
“I guess not,” NK mumbled.
From the corner of her eyes, Khushi spied at Arnav standing close to Lavanya.
“Arnav! Aren’t you going to come to the cafeteria? Hi, Lavanya, I am Khushi. You are welcome to join us!”
“Hi,” Lavanya replied coolly.
“Umm guys, Lavanya wants to see the campus and the dorms first. I’ll take her there and will join you, if we get time”
Khushi stood in shock as Arnav grabbed his bag and left.
“What bullshit! They won’t get time to eat, this campus tour will take them at least an hour” Mona grunted out.
“Which man would let go of that opportunity girls,?”
“Excuse me?”
NK put up his hands.
“Preetika, I am just saying that you don’t dismiss a girl like Lavanya Kashyap. Her mom was a supermodel !”
“How do you even know all this?” Khushi frowned.
“I have contacts”, he shrugged.
“Her dad is the ultra rich Randeep Kashyap. And now her supermodel mom, Sara is divorcing him for a younger billionaire! It is all over the papers. Never heard of a messier divorce “
“Well for that she has my sympathies” Mona sighed.
“I guess Arnav knew about this?”
“Of course! The reds get the news fresh from the oven!” NK said smugly.
“Theatre club is waiting NK, your talents are wasted on us” Preetika giggled.
Khushi trailed behind, her appetite lost already.
———
“Thank you uncle” ,with a smile she collected her change.
Placing her bag of paints in her basket, Khushi was all set to paddle when a sight caused her to still.
Arnav. Laughing. With Lavanya.
Ice clutched her veins, as her stomach swooped in discomfort.
They probably couldn’t see her. But she could see the glorious two, with their ice creams walking across the park.
‘How long is this campus tour going to last?’ Khushi thought bitterly.
With a jolt, Khushi realised.
They look good together.
Arnav was a boy after all. What right did she have to expect him to like her back?
Biting down on her trembling lip, she rode away before she burst into tears.
————
Khushi dumped her bag on the floor.
Crashing onto her bed , she stuffed her head into the pillow. Trying to muffle her tears.
“Khushi?”
Damn it.
“Khushi what’s wrong?”
She felt her mattress dip, and a hand ran through her hair.
She looked up, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“I think I like Arnav”
“So? Why cry about it?” Mona asked.
“Because h-he likes L-Lavanya” she blurted out.
She closed her eyes, hating the pity clouding their eyes.
“You know that in one day?” Preetika asked gently.
“I have n-never seen him l-like this,” Khushi sighed with dejection.
“Khushi! Arnav is your friend -“
“I know. I am not going to tell him or anything. It’s not like I can do anything if he wants to date Lavanya.”
She drew circles on her bed absently.
“That’s not what I was saying. I want you to be honest with him rather than be in so much pain”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea Mona. Khushi wants him in her life. And it will be better for both of them to not bring this thing into the mix. Especially when she isn’t sure about Arnav’s feelings”
“How cynical of you!”
“And how naive of you!”
“Okay guys stop fighting.” Khushi brushed off her tears.
“I’ll be fine, okay? I don’t want to ask him. Preetika is right. And if he does end up with Lavanya…” she swallowed painfully , “I want to be a good enough friend to stand by him”
She gazed unseeingly into her palms. Everything was changing this year.

“Spicy food in India” | Caryl prompt
requested by @that-left-turn ❤️
~
Cardamom & Curry
Carol stared at the fish. They’d been in Munnar for three days, and Carol had already gathered three South Indian recipes to take home. She decided to try making fish curry for lunch instead of finding a local restaurant, but there was one problem. Carol had never filleted a pomfret before. Daryl was the one who always filleted fish in their home, but he was asleep, so she was on her own.
Henry and his dad, Ezekiel, had planned a trip to Kerala, South India and wanted Lydia to go with them. Lydia and Henry had been dating for three years, and Carol adored Henry. He was respectful – if a little spoiled – and he loved Lydia. She knew Daryl liked him too but was extra grumpy around the boy who was dating his adopted daughter. Henry and his dad travelled a lot and often took Lydia with them. But Daryl refused to let their kid go across the world by herself, even though their kid wasn't really 'a kid'. So, Ezekiel generously extended the invitation to Lydia’s adoptive mom and her adoptive mom’s platonic best friend, who also happened to be Lydia’s adoptive father. To say their first dinner together had been awkward would be an understatement.
They’d been saving up for a big vacation for a year and a half now, so the timing worked out. Her catering business was going well this year, but Carol doubted they’d ever be able to afford this expensive rental. The luxury cottage was built with rustic stone and wood, and nestled on top of a hill, surrounded by tea and cardamom plantations. Ezekiel had given them the tour when they arrived, but the space was too big for her taste; she would’ve preferred a cozy but comfortable cottage with a view of the rolling hills. Still, she’d smiled graciously every time he pointed out an expensive feature on the property while Daryl sulked in the back. There was an odd tension between Daryl and Ezekiel, and she'd figured out why after what happened yesterday. Carol thought it best to stay with Daryl today and take some time to think–
“You tryna fillet the fish with your mind? Just gotta use a knife.”
Carol blinked, realizing she had zoned out and she was still staring at the pomfret. “Is that how it works? I thought if I stared at it sternly, it would fillet itself.”
“Gimme.” He limped over and started filleting the pomfrets with impressive precision.
“Show off,” she muttered under her breath.
His hair was dishevelled, and he wore cargo shorts and a faded tie-dye t-shirt that Sophia had made for him years ago. She pushed his fringe back to examine the cut on his face, held together by butterfly bandages. They'd been more generous with their touches lately – especially since they got here – but she didn't mind, and she didn't think he minded either by the way he leaned into her touch.
“I’m fine. It’s just a scratch,” he said without looking up at her.
“You’re lucky you didn't need stitches.” He looked up at her then, his eyes intense as they flicked down to her lips. She realized she was just running her fingers through his hair now and stepped back.
She and Daryl woke up before dawn the last two mornings and, in a jetlagged daze, walked along the path through the tea plantation to catch the sunrise. They didn’t expect it to rain on their way back yesterday. She slipped and would’ve tumbled down the path, but Daryl steadied her, lost his balance, and landed in the tea plantation. Besides a large cut on the left side of his face, tea leaves stuck to his elbows and knees, and a sprained ankle — he was intact. His eyes held a fear she hadn’t seen in five years –  fear and something else – as he frantically checked her for injuries and then held her in his arms for a solid minute in the rain.
“This fish isn't going to marinate itself,” she said in a chipper voice and mixed the spices in a bowl to calm her heart rate before smearing a generous amount of the paste on the fish.
“That’s enough. Dunno if I need more spice.”
Carol smirked and batted her eyelashes at him. “But I thought you liked it when I’m spicy, Pookie.”
“Stop.”
They fell into the rhythm they had in their own kitchen. She sauteed the onions with the spice mixture while he squinted at the recipe she’d scribbled on a paper pad and started cutting the tomatoes – stopping every few seconds to pop a slice in his mouth. Carol took a deep breath and focused on the onions. Something had viscerally shifted between them on the long flight over here. She’d clung to him on the plane during turbulence, and after they landed, they kept reaching for an excuse to touch each other. She’d been so unguarded in the way she leered at him that Lydia and Henry had given her a knowing look more than once.
“Where’s the royal family? I’m guessing Lydia is with them?” Daryl casually fed her a slice of tomato and then sucked the juice off his fingers.
They’re gone, and I’m in trouble. Carol steadied her voice. “Lydia, Henry, and Zeke went sightseeing; they won’t return until after dinner.” It’s just us, and you keep doing that thing with your mouth, she thought.
Carol let the curry simmer while they stepped onto the balcony and lounged on the chairs, staring at the green expanse. The air was dewy and perpetually scented with a hint of cardamom. Sophia would’ve loved this place. She would be perched on the balcony with her sketchbook, scribbling away and absentmindedly picking at her nails.
“Why didn’t ya go with them? I’m sure Henry’s dad will miss you.” Daryl growled and picked at his nail.
The tension between Daryl and Ezekiel got worse when he limped on their way back yesterday, and Ezekiel offered to pay for a doctor to take a look at him. Carol knew he would refuse, and thankfully she had packed some first aid supplies because she knew this man too damn well.
Carol rolled her eyes. “I wanted to stay and take care of Lydia’s dad, so he understood.”
Daryl’s lips quirked up, summoning a flutter in her belly. What are we doing here, Daryl? She wanted to ask. They’d been tip-toeing around each other for years now. Or she thought they were. Maybe this is all they’d ever be – platonic best friends who lived together, who raised a daughter and lost another. Two people who let their touches linger too long, reached for each other when they were afraid, longed for each other when they were apart, and sometimes slept in each other’s arms but never crossed that line. Always something more, but never quite enough.
“Surprised he hasn’t asked ya out yet.”
Carol blinked at Daryl, wanting to point out the irony in what he’d said. Irritation coursed through her as the curry burbled away, and she decided to come clean about what had happened the previous evening.
“He did after dinner last night.”
“What?” Daryl looked like he’d been punched in the gut; Carol tried to ignore the twinge of guilt and failed.
Ezekiel had helped her load the dishwasher in the kitchen and asked her out before they retired to their rooms last night. He’d been a perfect gentleman – charming, respectful, and chivalrous. But all she’d thought about was how Daryl’s eyes had lingered on her lips before dinner when he’d told her she looked beautiful.
“I told him I’ll think about it.” They weren’t in a position to anger their host, even though she felt that Ezekiel would accept defeat graciously and not put them in an awkward position.
“Why didn’t ya say yes?”
“Why does it matter?”
Daryl’s behaviour was giving her whiplash. He practically undressed her with his eyes last night and almost launched himself at Ezekiel for complimenting her at dinner. Now, he was pushing her to date the man.
Daryl peered through his fringe, his eyes earnest. “He’s real charming, rich, generous, and clearly has a thing for ya.”
Carol crossed her arms. “If he’s so great, why don't you go out with him?”
“Pfft. Ain’t my type.”
“What is your type?” Carol raised her eyebrows, ignoring the heat that crept up her cheeks as Daryl’s eyes roamed her face and lingered on her lips before he pried his gaze away.
“Don’t change the subject. He’s corny and a bit pretentious, but he doesn’t seem like an asshole.”
“So, that’s what you want then? For me to date Ezekiel?” Her voice wavered, but she held his gaze, her anger now simmering to the surface and prickling at her eyes. Is that what he wanted? Then why did he look at her like that all the time — like he was afraid of losing her? Had she gotten this all wrong? Did she spend years pining after a man who was finally telling her he was not interested?
Daryl looked away. “I want ya to be happy. He’d treat you like a Queen and-”
“-I should get started on the appam.”
Carol went to the kitchen before the tears formed in her eyes, hating the open plan of the cottage where she could feel Daryl’s eyes follow her. Her hand reached for the pink bauble pendant resting on her chest. After Sophia died, they’d grown closer and built a wall between them at the same time. But when Lydia came into their lives, the wall started breaking down. She hoped, in time, they could pick up where they left off. Now, she didn’t know why she thought this vacation would be a new beginning for them. Daryl was never going to see her as anything but his best friend. She’d waited too long.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daryl loved watching her cook. Her hair was tied up in a bun; she wore a loose Bowie t-shirt, baggy sweats, and soft fuzzy elf socks Lydia got for her last Christmas. The aroma of cardamom and chilli lingered in the air as she poured rice batter on a pan to make the rice crepes they called appam. He wished he could walk up and wrap his arms around her, kiss the nape of her neck and see if he could taste cardamom on her skin. I bet Ezekiel didn't think this hard before he made his move. He sighed.
Daryl didn’t know how many days he had left to savour her presence, reach for her hand when they walked up a crooked path and watch the sunrise wash over her freckles. She looked radiant last night in the blue dress that hugged her form and illuminated her eyes. He knew sooner or later, she’d meet a man who deserved her. I didn’t think it would be this soon. To think he’d hoped this vacation would give them time to figure out what their future looked like. Even if Daryl selfishly wished to be with her, Carol deserved someone who could offer her the world. Ezekiel sure as hell checked all the boxes.
Carol deserved all of this. Lavish vacations, a charming partner, and children who adored her – who were safe and in her arms. She deserved a comfortable life after everything she’d been through.
Daryl’s work as a contractor was unpredictable, and renting a cottage of this size for twelve days was out of the question. He thought the trip he’d taken her and Sophia on to the Grand Canyon had been extravagant because he’d spent a chunk of his savings to upgrade them to a big cabin with a mini-pool. Now Henry’s rich father entered the picture and showed him up with one effortless, generous gesture and an offhanded “We vacation here every summer”. The universe could’ve kicked him in the balls, and it would’ve hurt less.
Daryl walked into the kitchen and started slicing some red onions to soak in lemon juice because he needed something to do before his thoughts choked him. Carol’s eyes were far away when she held up a spoon so he could taste the curry; the heat from the spices hit him straight in the back of his throat and lingered on his palate.
“Why did you stay after Sophia died?”
Daryl coughed. “What?”
“You heard me.”
It didn’t even occur to him to leave after Sophia died. When he’d rented the basement apartment in Carol’s house all those years ago, he only wanted a cheap place to rest his head as he went through trade school. Daryl hadn’t expected to fall so deeply in love with Carol and co-parent her child with her. Before he knew it, he'd moved upstairs into the spare room, and he walked the kid to school every day and helped with her homework. He’d come to love Sophia like she was his own daughter. When she died, he and Carol had anchored each other through their shared grief over the loss of their little girl. Then, another kid walked through the doors, and they were given another chance.
“I loved that kid. I know Sophia wasn’t mine, but she was.” He didn’t expect his voice to break as his eyes lingered on Carol's pink bauble necklace.
“I know. But that’s not what I asked.” her voice was soft, her eyes crystal in the afternoon light – she was crying in the kitchen when he was busy leering at her. He wanted to kick himself for being an idiot again.
Carol pinned him with her gaze. “Why’d you stay?”
“Why didn’t ya say yes to Ezekiel?” he deflected.
“I’m not interested in him.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t love him.” Carol’s voice was a desperate whisper. “Ezekiel wasn’t the one who held me through my grief. He didn’t take my daughter trick-or-treating or scour ten game stores to find the obscure video game she wanted. He didn’t make her chicken soup with alphabet pasta when she was sick. He didn’t treat me and my daughter like we were the center of his universe-” Carol’s voice broke, and she wiped her tears.
“Carol-”
“-I thought we were on the same page, Daryl, and hoped we’d have a stroke of luck with the change of scenery, but I guess I was wrong.”
Did she really not know? Had he not been clear enough about how he felt? He loved her so much he’d let her walk into a pretentious rich guy’s arms—shit. As he played the thoughts over in his mind, he realized how they must’ve sounded out loud. I fucked up. Words chased each other in his mind as he struggled to explain.
“Our luck’s run out,” Carol sighed and turned to leave.
Before he could think too hard, he pulled her close and kissed her. Her lips tasted of cardamom, and her. Carol. A small part of his mind worried about her shoving him away, but instead, she melted in his embrace and drew him in for more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His lips were softer than she’d imagined. He kissed her deeply and slowly like he had all the time in the world. His hands were everywhere – caressing her face, gripping her waist, tangled in her hair – like he was tracing her silhouette in his memory. When they came up for air, her mind was molasses, and her thoughts returned to her slowly. He traced her jawline with a featherlight touch and looked at her like he worried she would disappear. Carol blinked away the tears and ran a finger alongside the butterfly bandages on his face. Their eyes met, and he held her hand to his cheek and kissed it.
“Why’d you stay?” she asked again.
“I stayed because I belong with you.”
There was nothing else she could say but kiss him again and wonder why she hadn’t done it sooner.
“Why did you tell me to date Ezekiel?” she asked between kisses.
“I’m an idiot.” He kissed her back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After their make-out session, they took a quick break to catch a breath and have lunch – a bowl of fish curry with rice crepes or appam. They’d been eating spicy food for days, and he always regretted it in the morning, but that didn't stop him. He dove in immediately, savouring every bite as the sharp taste of chilli and cardamom hit his palate. Sooo good. He could still taste the fish, and it melted in his mouth. He couldn’t slow down if he tried, so he helped himself to a red onion slice soaked in lemon juice and hummed as the acid cut through the savoury richness of the curry.
Carol watched him with a smile – her gaze soft and open. Most of her hair had escaped the bun, her cheeks were flushed, and her lips looked swollen and kissable. His brain short-circuited; he didn’t know whether to continue eating the curry or kiss her. She solved his problem by scooping some fish with the appam and feeding it to him; Daryl held her gaze as he ate and licked the pads of her fingers with his tongue.
He didn’t know which one of them closed the gap. He didn’t care because he was kissing the woman he loved. His hands pulled her close, and her fingers grabbed his hair as they stumbled toward her bedroom. The taste of cardamon and curry lingered on his tongue as he pressed openmouthed kisses to her neck.
“Your lips taste spicy, Pookie.”
“Thought you like it when I’m spicy.”
Her laughter bounced off the walls as he kicked the bedroom door shut behind him.
Pavitr Prabhakar x Indian!Reader (Platonic)
Got sick of there being no Indian!Reader fics with my favorite ATSV characters so I wrote one :D
Even though it says "Indian!Reader", anyone can read it and not really pay attention to the race of the reader. It doesn't really matter and since the fic doesn't have a plot, it won't disturb your understanding of the fic!
Summary: Meeting Pav and getting to explore Mumbattan with him! Reader feeling a little disconnected from their culture, but having a blast after visiting Mumbattan with him.
TW: Reader is established to be a spider person, Fluff, Not much of a plot just wanted to write something cute for my desi readers!
____________________________________________________________
You were walking through Spider Society HQ, a bit tired from the sleepless night you had and hoping to find some kind of distraction from the responsibilities of being a Spiderperson. Not really paying attention to your surroundings, you began to drift into a bit of a trance, walking along the path aimlessly, nodding at the Peters and Mjs who waved at you but lost in your thoughts as you tried to process the events of last night. Fighting your universe's version of the Sinister Six, coming back home with cuts and bruises, spending the night trying to clean them and cover them so your friends and family wouldn't see your wounds the next morning, being a Spider-person was difficult to handle. You just wished you had a distraction, something you could do, somewhere you could go to calm down and destimulate. HQ was nice and all, but it was so formal, what with the training and conditioning centers, and the boring food court.
"Arre, watch out!"
You felt a body collide with yours, sending the two of you stumbling backwards and crashing into a wall. "What the-"
"Oh no, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
You looked over woozily to see the boy who'd crashed into you, wearing his decorated Spider-suit, the colors practically blinding you as he approached and tried to give you a hand to help you get up. You took his hand, trying to shake the dizzy feeling from your head before you spoke. "Its alright. How did you even-"
The boy eagerly spoke before you could finish, his tone full of excitement. "Its my first day here, and I was trying take a self-tour of the HQ, but I think I was going too fast" He said, his voice and expression seeming slightly sheepish. "I'm Spider-man! And you?"
"Spider-woman. But you don't have to call me that. My name's Y/N."
"I'm Pavitr! But most call me Pav."
"Hey Pav. Where're you from?"
"Earth-50101! At least thats what Miguel told me. For us, its just Mumbattan!"
"Mumbattan?" The place sounded oddly familiar, as if you'd heard of it before. Wait..."Do you mean Mumbai?", you asked, a smile spreading across your face.
"I don't know what Mumbai is, but sure!"
"Oh man, its been forever since I've been to Mumbai! Its been forever since I've been to...well...India in general."
"Oh?" He sounded like he was thinking something over. "Well, would you like to see your Mumbai? Or a version of it at least?"
"What do you mean?" You asked, a little confused.
"Do you want to come to Mumbattan? You have a watch, right?" Pav looked down at your wrist excitedly, seeming happy to have made a friend at the Spider Society so quickly.
"Mumbattan huh? Well...uh..." You had to mull it over. I don't have anything else to do...besides I haven't had pani puri in so long...You should to yourself, the memories of street food in India flooding back to you. Oh how you missed the place. "I'm down."
About an hour later, you and Pav were swinging through Mumbattan, with him showing off the whole city to you, pointing out the different attractions, the nicer temples, and even his own favorites, like small shops and stalls which he said he often bought from.
"And over there, they have the best chaat in the whole of Mumbattan!"
You whipped your head to the side at the mention of chaat, the memory of the delicious snack coming back to you as the aroma made its way toward where you two were sitting. "Can we get some?"
Pav nodded his head and led you closer to the stall, still staying on the roofs of the buildings, swinging above the heads of the crowds in the area. There were more than a couple stalls, probably anywhere from 20 to 50 of them, the sights and smells practically flooding your senses. "Chaat or vada pav?"
"both. Both is good."
He laughed at your response and motioned for you to wait there while he grabbed some. You took the few minutes to take in the rest of the sight. Mumbattan was beautiful. Yes, it was crowded, but the people were just a part of its charm! There were miniature temples everywhere, with women in saris and men in dhotis entering and exiting them. It reminded you a lot of home, where you family was from. I mean, it technically was your home...just a much more futuristic version of it. But then of course, some things never change. The temples, the street food, the traffic, it was all practically the same.
You were pulled out of your thoughts when Pav reappeared next to you, holding a paper plate with two different chaats in it. Papdi and samosa. Nice. He also brought vada pav, which he immediately started snacking on. "So...Indian Spider-man huh? Never thought I'd see the day"
"you're Indian too, correct?"
"eh, its not the same. You're like Indian Indian, I haven't even BEEN to India in ages."
"Well now you have, haven't you?" He said with a smile, nudging your shoulder. Damn this guy was optimistic. It was refreshing.
You chuckled at this. "Thanks for the food"
"Anytime! If you ever visit again, I'll bring you to even more stalls next time. We can get pani puri too!"
"Sounds perfect."
"Does this mean we're friends now?"
"Do you wanna be?"
"Yeah."
"Then we're friends. Us desi's gotta stick together, right?"
A/N
I didn't really know how to end it, so I kind of gave it a crappy ending, sorry for that. This fic didn't really have much of a plot, but I just really wanted to write something that was Indian/Desi reader related because despite there being a whole Indian spider-man, there's like zero fics where he encounters an Indian reader or an Indian oc! Hopefully this was readable and any and all feedback is appreciated!
I love Pav so much, I just wanna hug him and be his best friend 😭
June 16th, 2024
Goodmorning ladies, gents and ladigents🕵🏽‍♂️today I woke up pretty fatigued and decided to skip my morning run. I took a shower, got dressed and met everyone downstairs for breakfast. This morning was a little hectic as we all had to pack up our bags for wales and leave the rest of our baggage at the hotel for when we return. In the midst of this event three of our classmates got extremely ill due to food poisoning and either had to be left behind or took it very easy throughout the course of this morning. Once we finished eating breakfast and organized our baggage we met with Ivo who led us to the The British Museum. This museum was the biggest museum i’ve ever stepped in, there was three floors filled with global history and I’m sure an immense amount of stolen artifacts from all over the world. We only had about an hour to look through the museum so I strategically planned my visit by going downstairs visit one part of Africa which had bewildering tribal art and statues from western Africa. I made my way back upstairs to the Egyptian exhibition where I found myself quite disgusted by the display of bare naked Egyptian bodies of the most influential which I discovered was stolen from Africa by a British scientist. The Egyptian exhibit had a vast difference compared to the European history exhibition which was filled with beautiful architecture, paintings and books to represent their history of rapping and stripping the resource and people of every colony they ever stepped foot on… Lastly I made my way across the museum to the Asian continent where I spent my last 10 minutes admiring the Indian/ Pakistani exhibit and not once did I read Britain was at fault for the division between the two countries.. My mother is originally from Karachi, Pakistan and I had the brilliant opportunity to visit Pakistan as an adolescent so I feel very drawn and connected to the history of Pakistan becoming a country and the role that Britain had played into dividing not only their culture, family, traditions but also the many wars that followed behind the division which just RECENTLY ended in 1999. I noticed that our tour guy (Not Ivo!!) and the British museum has a biased perspective of Britains involvement in the division between India and Pakistan that it was quite sickening and made me leave the museum with an unsettling feeling. Subsequently we headed back to the hotel to get our bags and took a 5 hour train ride where we landed in Aberystwyth, Wales. There we checked into our personal dorms and met with the director of Wales for a welcome Welsh dinner. I was quite worried for what I would be able to eat as a vegetarian as many stapled dishes in Wales are made out of meat but surprisingly they had accommodations for me. Once we finished dinner my group walked the campus where we saw the most beautiful view of downtown that sits right of the lining of the Irish Sea, before making our way back to the dorms to settle in for an early restful night.
Eddie Murphy plays Axel Foley, a streetwise Detroit police officer who goes to Beverly Hills, California, to investigate the death of his closest buddy. Martin Brest directed this iconic American action-comedy, which debuted in 1984. Eddie Murphy's reputation as a big movie star was cemented by the film, which was a huge box office hit. A closer look at the movie is provided here:
Summary of Plot: Beverly Hills Cop centers on Axel Foley, a brazen and unconventional Detroit detective who sets out to solve the murder of Mikey Tandino, a buddy from boyhood. After being released from prison, Mikey worked for a wealthy art dealer named Victor Maitland in Beverly Hills. After Mikey is slain, Axel follows his inquiry into the murder to the affluent streets of Beverly Hills, where his streetwise strategies collide with the more official procedures of the neighbourhood police department.
Axel joins forces with two Beverly Hills investigators, Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton), in spite of a warning to leave the matter alone, in order to apprehend Mikey's killers. Eddie Murphy's powerful performance, action scenes, and humor are the film's main draws.
Important Personas The main character, witty Detroit police officer Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), employs unusual techniques to solve crimes. Judge Reinhold's character Billy Rosewood is an innocent yet sincere Beverly Hills investigator who joins Axel's team. After initially opposing Axel's techniques, John Taggart (John Ashton), a seasoned Beverly Hills investigator, finally works with him. The primary antagonist, wealthy art dealer Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff), is engaged in a number of illegal enterprises. Subjects Axel Foley's trip from impoverished Detroit to opulent Beverly Hills, which emphasizes cultural and procedural distinctions, serves as a major source of humor and tension in Fish Out of Water. Justice and Revenge: The story revolves around Axel's pursuit of justice for his friend's murder, which highlights themes of fidelity and retaliation. Bureaucracy against Street Smarts: The differences in policing ideologies are brought to light by the comparison between Axel's street-smart strategy and the bureaucratic practices of the Beverly Hills police. Effect and Heritage Both critically and commercially, Beverly Hills Cop was a huge success. It was the highest-grossing R-rated movie of its era, taking in over $300 million globally. Eddie Murphy became a significant draw at the ticket office with his highly acclaimed performance. In addition, two sequels to the movie were made: Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 and Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. A fourth movie is currently in development.
The film is well-known for its memorable music, especially Harold Faltermeyer's instrumental "Axel F," which went on to become a hit on its own. More action-comedy movies in the 1980s and later were made possible by the popularity of Beverly Hills Cop.
In conclusion Known for its keen humor, captivating plot, and Eddie Murphy's outstanding performance, Beverly Hills Cop is still a renowned action-comedy movie. Its unforgettable characters, action-packed plot, and perfect balance of humor have guaranteed its place as an American film classic.
Headcanon that Pat cheats on VK with Mitch again, during the 2023 Ashes 😈 Pat's so guilty after it happens, because the first time it happened, he at least had a nominal excuse, his marriage with VK was new, neither of them wanted it and they didn't know each other that well. This time, he has nothing in his favour. The past ten years have been idyllic, him and VK have really clicked after overcoming their rough phase, and there's no shortage of passion in their sex life. There's literally no reason for Pat to get dissatisfied and look for satisfaction elsewhere this time.
He hopes VK hasn't found out about his transgression, because deep down, he knows his husband won't forgive the same mistake twice. He thinks of a life without VK and finds out he doesn't want a life like that, he can't imagine waking up without his omega in his arms. Then he thinks of a life where he wakes up where Mitch is in his arms, his head nuzzled against his chest, and he wants it so much he aches. He's not sure which life he wants more. It's disgusting of him to wish so, but secretly, he wishes that VK never finds out about this, never suspects a thing. He wants to go on with VK being blissfully unaware of everything, waiting for Pat at home with a smile on his face and warm dinner on the table. And he can restart his affair with Mitch on the side, because by God, he can't stay away from his teammate, their connection is undeniably electric for that. It's selfish and insensitive, but Pat wants the best of both worlds-- an omega husband at home and an alpha to warm his bed on tours.
VK finds out though. When Pat gets back from the 2023 ashes, VK is standing in the hallway, a suitcase of his things next to him. And the moment Pat sees him, he knows he's lost him forever. He apologizes, begs, pleads, and grovels but VK doesn't listen to a single thing. He walks right out of the house and doesn't look back. A week later, Pat gets a notice from VK's lawyer, that he's filing for divorce. It's unrefined, but Pat resorts to threats to get VK to stay, because although his actions don't show it, he loves the omega too much to lose him. "You know your career is over if you go through with the divorce, right?"
VK laughs-- it's a cold, bitter sound. "I can't believe you've sunk so low as to pull that on me. But I should have seen it coming. I really can't put anything past you, can I? My career is my problem. I'll find a way around it. And for the record, I'd take losing my career over having my dignity compromised every time I'm with you."
True enough, VK DOES manage to find a way around losing his career. Of course, the BCCI pull out that card as soon as they hear of the divorce, but VK's incredible skills, raw talent and public popularity give him immunity that is usually not given to an omega. It helps that his friends-- Rohit, Shubman, KL, Hardik, Jasprit, Rishabh, Siraj, Shami-- practically the rest of the team threaten to resign themselves if the BCCI sack VK. In the end, the board has to give in.
Pat tries to get VK back. He flies to Delhi, and nearly pounds down the omega's door. VK opens it, only to slap his ex-husband across the face, hard, before slamming the door right back in Pat's face. Later, Pat seethes with impotent rage when he discovers that VK's blocked him on every social media platform, as well as placed a restraining order against him.
Pat kindles a proper relationship with Mitch. He's happy, he supposes. Of course sometimes he wishes that VK was still his. Of course, sometimes, he wonders how life would be like if he hadn't been unfaithful to VK. Of course when they're playing against India, Pat finds himself staring at his ex-husband, admiring his beauty, committing his every curve to memory. Of course Pat feels a surge of uncontrollable jealousy when he sees newspapers publish photos of VK walking hand-in-hand with a New Zealand beta called Kane. When he spots a ring on VK's finger, the following year, he could just about tear Kane's head off. Somehow, Pat never thought that VK could move on from him.
VK finds his happily ever after with Kane. He retires from cricket as the highest ever run-scorer. They get a house in the New Zealand countryside, and live a quiet life, away from the spotlight mostly. Their babies, Shubman and Rachin become best friends. Ten years later, Shubman marries his omega teammate, Ishan at VK and Kane's house. Rachin is Shubi's man of honour. Their best friends are with them. Kane's arm is around VK's waist. VK looks at his family and doesn't think about Pat even once, finally happy and contented.
(well, this got away from me 🫠 I know I made pat very greasy in this, but I love me a "omega takes control of their own life" narrative 🥹)
It's a very interesting idea - not one I'll use in main overse but maybe a spin off? Or if someone else wants to grab this and run please feel free!
A couple of things: firstly, by this point there is absolutely no way VK's career is under threat. If Pat restarts his affair with mitch, no one would protect him from VK's choice. As you said he's got fame in his own right, but also the BCCI marry him off to try and settle him (more on that when the VK/Pat fic starts coming) and for ten years (just under) he's been very settled, the happy little omega they wanted him to be, and playing great cricket. His career is no longer under threat and the BCCI wouldn't try and stop VK getting a divorce.
He's gonna needs some alpha friends to help him get a lawyer to take the case, seeing he's omega, but VK has all the connections he needs.
Loving the happy ending for VK but remember that he's bonded to Pat, so he'd need Pat to break his heats. Do with that what you will, but it's very established lore in my canon so not something that could be negotiated.
detail of an icon of The Parable of the Good Samaritan, by Jozef Sedmak
One dawn in late July, Sunil found a fellow scavenger lying in the mud where Annawadi's rut-road met the airport thoroughfare. Sunil knew the old man a little; he worked hard and slept outside the Marol fish market, half a mile away. Now the man's leg was mashed and bloody, and he was calling out to passersby for help. Sunil figured he'd been hit by a car. Some drivers weren't overly concerned about avoiding trash-pickers who scoured the roadsides.
Sunil was too scared to go to the police station and ask for an ambulance, especially after what was rumored to have happened to Abdul. Instead he ran toward the battleground of the Cargo Road dumpsters, hoping an adult would brave the police station. Thousands of people passed this way every morning.
Two hours later, when Rahul left Annawadi for school, the injured man was crying for water. "This one is even drunker than your father," one of Rahul's friends teased him. "Drunker than your father," Rahul retorted unimaginatively as they turned onto Airport Road. Rahul wasn't afraid of the police; he'd run to them for help when his neighbor dumped boiling lentils on Danush, his sickly baby. The man on the road was just a scavenger, though, and Rahul had to catch a bus to class.
When Zehrunisia Husain passed an hour later, the scavenger was screaming in pain. She thought his leg looked like hell, but she was bringing food and medicine to her husband, who also looked like hell far across the city in the Arthur Road Jail.
Mr. Kramble passed a little later, milky-eyed and aching, on his tour of businesses and charities, still seeking contributions for his heart valve. He had once been a pavement dweller like the injured man. Now Mr. Kramble saw nothing but his own bottomless grief, because he knew miracles were possible in new India and that he couldn't have one.
When Rahul and his brother returned from school in the early afternoon, the injured scavenger lay still, moaning faintly. At 2:30 P.M., a Shiv Sena man made a call to a friend in the Sahar Police Station about a corpse that was disturbing small children. At 4:00 P.M., constables enlisted enlisted other scavengers to load the body into a police van, so that the constables wouldn't catch the diseases that trash-pickers were known to carry.
Unidentified body, the Sahar Police decided without looking for the scavenger's family. Died of tuberculosis, the Cooper Hospital morgue pathologist concluded without an autopsy.
Which of these … in your opinion, was the neighbor to the robbers' victim?
the Gospel According to Luke (10:36)
The effect of corruption I find most unacknowledged is a contraction not of economic possibility but of our moral universe. In my reporting I am continually struck by the ethical imaginations of young people, even those in circumstances so desperate that selfishness would be an asset. Children have little power to act on those imaginations, and by the time they grow up, they may have become the adults who keep walking as a bleeding waste-picker slowly dies on the roadside, who turn away when a burned woman writhes, whose first reaction when a vibrant teenager drinks rat poison is a shrug. How does that happen? How —to use Abdul's formulation— do children intent on being ice become water? A cliché about India holds that the loss of life matters less than in other countries because of the Hindu faith in reincarnation, and because of the vast scale of the population. In my reporting, I found that young people felt the loss of life acutely. What appeared to be indifference to other people's suffering had little to do with reincarnation, and less to do with being born brutish. I believe it had a good deal to do with conditions that had sabotaged their innate capacity for moral action.
In places where government priorities and market imperatives create a world so capricious that to help a neighbor is to risk your ability to feed your family, and sometimes even your own liberty, the idea of the mutually supportive poor community is demolished. The poor blame one another for the choices of governments and markets, and we who are not poor are ready to blame the poor just as harshly.
It is easy, from a safe distance, to overlook the fact that in undercities governed by corruption, where exhausted people vie on scant terrain for very little, it is blisteringly hard to be good. The astonishment is that some people are good, and that many people try to be[.]
Katherine Boo (Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity, pages 253-254)
[T]o be truly free is to be free from the blinders that prevent us from doing the morally good action. To put it another way: to fail in doing the morally good action is to presuppose some kind of bondage.
Where to Get the Best Views of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India
Tumblr media
Where to Get the Best Views of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India
Many people have attempted to describe the Taj Mahal's beauty. The architect, Shah Jahan, stated that "it made the sun and the moon shed tears from their eyes." Rudyard Kipling described it as "the embodiment of all that is pure," and Rabindranath Tagore described it as a "teardrop on the cheek of eternity."
Although it may appear that I am exaggerating, if you were to ask me what is the most beautiful building I have ever seen, there is no contest; the Taj Mahal reigns supreme. I'm not alone in this. I'm certain that the over 4 million tourists who pass through the complex's massive red sandstone gates each year to see India's most popular tourist destination would agree with me.
Most visitors are already familiar with the Taj Mahal and its history; built by Shah Jahan in 1631 as a memorial for his third wife, who died in childbirth, the main mausoleum took only 8 years to complete, but the complex as a whole wasn't finished until 1653. As a result, it is frequently referred to as the world's greatest love monument. What most people don't realise is that you don't have to enter the complex to get a good view of the building's gleaming white onion dome.
If you want to see the Taj Mahal from a different perspective, here are my favourite alternative locations to visit.
Suggested tour: Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour, Same Day Agra Tour, Agra Sightseeing Tour, Agra Tour from Delhi
Mehtab Bagh
Tumblr media
The Mehtab Bagh gardens on the north bank of the Yamuna river offer one of the most captivating views of the Taj Mahal. Beautiful Mehtab Bagh is a long, rich green lawn filled with floral shrubs that was created to resemble the Taj Mahal's own ornamental gardens. According to legend, Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor, had long planned to construct a tomb for himself there that would be an identical replica of the Taj, but made completely of black marble. The concept was inspired by the fantastical tales of European traveller Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, who visited Agra in 1665. It was alleged that Shah Jahan's son Aurangzeb overthrew him before the structure could be constructed.
Opening Hours: 6am – 6pm Entry fee: 100 Rs
Must Read: What Other Attractions in Agra Are the Best for Tourists
From a Boat on the Yamuna River
Tumblr media
The Taj Mahal is in view as the sun is sinking, a boatman is navigating a wooden boat across the Yamuna, and the enormous white onion dome is reflected in the still waters. This is the scene that you typically see in travel guides or publications. Tourists are not permitted to ride a boat on the Yamuna, according to the law. Nevertheless, this does not imply that it is impossible; all you need to do is know who to ask and where to look. Who, after all, would want to sacrifice the Taj Mahal's best view for the sake of a few rules? Most hostels in and around Agra offer this tour but I found that the best way is to do it yourself from Dusshera ghat. (250 Rs p.p.)
The Trails of The Taj Nature Walk
Tumblr media
This verdant parkland area is a short distance from the Taj Mahal via the East Gate Road and is crisscrossed by walking trails, picnic areas, and lookout points. If you're seeking for a little peace & quiet, you can anticipate it to be rather peaceful compared to the rest of Agra because the nature reserve is 70 acres in size and stretches from the road towards the banks of the Yamuna. While I was there, only two other couples were seen strolling the trail
Opening Hours: 7am – 6pm
Entry Fee: 100 Rs. for foreigners, 20 Rs for Indians.
Must Read: Must Visit Attractions around Agra
Agra Fort
Tumblr media
This remnant of the Mughal era made of red sandstone is Agra's most spectacular building except the Taj. Emperor Akbar started building it in 1565 along the Yamuna River's banks, and his grandson Shah Jahan later added white marble decorations. During his rule, what had been a vast military castle was changed into a palace.
The fort's size will be what most impresses you. The walls occasionally reach a height of 20 metres across its 2.5 kilometre diameter. The interior is just as spectacular as the exterior once you enter. The Shish Mahal (mirror palace), Khas Mahal, Diwan-e-khaas (hall of secret hearings), Moti Masjid (pearl mosque), and Nagina Masjid (gem/jewel mosque) are just a few of the magnificent buildings you can find here. To get the most out of your visit, my recommendation is to meander around the numerous buildings for a whole morning or afternoon. Opening Hours: 7am – 6pm Entry Fee: 100 Rs. for foreigners, 20 Rs for Indians
Chhatris by the Yamuna River- The Secret Taj Mahal Sunset Point
Tumblr media
Possibly my favourite off-beat place to photograph the Taj Mahal from, this chhatri (dome shaped pavilion) by the Yamuna river is a must-visit monument in Agra. It is located just a short walk away from the East Gate entrance of the Taj, though getting there can be a bit tricky if you are alone and do not know where to go.
To reach this secret Taj Mahal sunset point, walk towards the direction of Dusshera Ghat on Dusshera Ghat Road from the East Gate entrance of the Taj. The perimeter wall of the Taj will be on your left as you make your way to the riverbank. Now, instead of going straight to the Ghat, take the first right (there is a small diversion so try not to miss it) to continue onto Dusshera Ghat Road.
Delhi is an exciting city that mixes old and new India. You can see and experience world-famous monuments, sample delicious and affordable street food, shop at lively markets and soak up the culture without it costing a lot of money.
Even on a tight budget, hiring an affordable cab service in Delhi makes sightseeing easy and comfortable. You can maximise your time and cover all the top spots across this city without having to stress over public transportation.
Affordable Accommodations
There are great budget-friendly places to stay in Delhi. The Paharganj area has lots of budget hotels that offer clean, simple rooms at very low prices. This neighbourhood is popular with backpackers.
For a social atmosphere, consider Delhi hostels like Zostel or Madpackers. They have modern facilities and organised events where you can meet fellow travellers.
There are guesthouses in South Delhi that also provide an affordable and cosy homestay experience. These are often family-run so you get a taste of local life. The amenities may be basic but the charm and hospitality make up for it.
Low-Cost Sightseeing
Many excellent monuments like India Gate, Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid and Humayun's Tomb have no entry fees. You can visit them yourself or hire an affordable cab from a taxi service in Delhi.
Tumblr media
Joining walking tours is a popular budget choice. You can go for Old Delhi heritage walks and food/culture tours have nominal charges, usually tip-based.
Delhi's museums are cheap to visit. The entry to the expansive National Museum is very affordable. Gandhi Smriti and the Crafts Museum also have minimal fees.
Economical Transportation
For budget sightseeing, choose Chiku Cab, the best Delhi Cab Serviceprovider. Their drivers know all about Delhi and speak English and Hindi. They provide polite and professional service. Tirupati Balaji Darshan Package: A Divine Journey to the Abode of Lord Venkateswara
Tirupati, nestled in the lush hills of the Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh, is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in India. Every year, millions of devotees flock to the sacred Tirumala hills to seek blessings from Lord Venkateswara, a form of Lord Vishnu, at the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple. Known for its spiritual significance, the temple is visited by people from all walks of life. If you're planning a pilgrimage, opting for a Tirupati Balaji Darshan Yatra is a convenient and fulfilling way to embark on this divine journey.
Why Choose a Tirupati Darshan Package?
Tirupati is not only a spiritual center but also a hub of religious tourism. With the sheer volume of visitors, it can be overwhelming to manage a trip independently. That’s where a Tirupati Darshan Package comes in handy. These packages are designed to provide a hassle-free experience, ensuring your pilgrimage is comfortable, well-organized, and spiritually enriching.
A typical Tirupati tour package includes transport, accommodation, temple darshan arrangements, and additional services like local sightseeing. Whether you are traveling from nearby cities like Chennai, Bangalore, or from across the country, there are various packages available to suit different budgets and preferences. Choosing a package simplifies the process, allowing you to focus solely on your spiritual experience without worrying about the logistical details.
Highlights of the Tirupati Balaji Darshan Yatra
The highlight of any Tirupati Balaji Darshan Yatra is, of course, the divine darshan of Lord Venkateswara at the Tirumala Temple. The temple is considered one of the wealthiest and holiest Hindu shrines in the world. Devotees believe that offering prayers at Tirupati Balaji brings prosperity, happiness, and blessings for a lifetime.
Apart from the darshan, the Tirupati tour package often includes visits to several other sacred temples located around Tirupati, such as:
Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple in Tiruchanur, dedicated to the goddess Padmavathi, the consort of Lord Venkateswara.
Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at the foot of Tirumala hills.
Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srinivasa Mangapuram, an important temple for those who cannot climb the Tirumala hill for darshan.
Tamil Nadu Tourism Tirupati Package
One of the most popular options for pilgrims is the Tamil Nadu Tourism Tirupati Package, which is specially organized for devotees traveling from Tamil Nadu. This package is well-structured, providing bus services, accommodation, and a guided itinerary for darshan. Many packages also include stops at prominent temples in Chennai or other towns in Tamil Nadu en route to Tirupati, enriching the spiritual journey further.
The Tamil Nadu Tourism Tirupati Package is an ideal option for those seeking a well-coordinated trip, as it ensures that transportation and temple entry timings are efficiently managed. This way, pilgrims can make the most of their visit without the stress of planning every detail.
What to Expect in a Tirupati Tour Package?
When you opt for a Tirupati tour package, here's what you can typically expect:
Transportation: Most packages offer transportation options, including bus or private vehicles, depending on the package type. If you are traveling from nearby cities like Chennai, Bangalore, or Hyderabad, the packages will often include round-trip transportation.
Accommodation: Accommodation options can vary from budget hotels to premium lodging, depending on the package. Most packages include overnight stays either at Tirupati or Tirumala, allowing devotees to rest comfortably after a day of spiritual activities.
Darshan Tickets: The package ensures that darshan tickets are pre-arranged, saving you the trouble of standing in long queues. Special darshan arrangements like the VIP or Seegra Darshan may also be available in certain packages.
Local Sightseeing: In addition to temple visits, many Tirupati darshan packages include local sightseeing tours around Tirupati, such as visits to natural attractions like the Sri Venkateswara National Park or the waterfalls in the region.
Best Time to Visit
Tirupati experiences a steady flow of devotees year-round, but the best time for your Tirupati Balaji Darshan Yatra would be between September and March. The weather is pleasant, and the temple is less crowded compared to peak festival seasons like Brahmotsavam or Vaikunta Ekadasi, when Tirupati sees a significant influx of pilgrims.
Conclusion
The Tirupati Balaji Darshan Yatra is a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey for many devotees. Whether you are planning a quick trip from Chennai with a Tamil Nadu Tourism Tirupati Package or opting for a more extensive Tirupati darshan package with added temple visits and sightseeing, these packages provide an all-encompassing pilgrimage experience. Choose a package that suits your preferences, and immerse yourself in the spiritual and cultural richness of Tirupati, the abode of Lord Venkateswara.
