B-29 Kee Bird was a United States Army Air Forces Boeing B-29 Superfortress, serial 45-21768, of the 46th Reconnaissance Squadron, that became marooned after making an emergency landing in northwest Greenland during a secret Cold War spying mission on 21 February 1947. While the entire crew was safely evacuated after spending three days in the isolated Arctic tundra, the aircraft itself was left at the landing site. It lay there undisturbed until 1994, when a privately funded mission was launched to repair and return it. Test Pilots in the 50’s were a different breed.... some great footage here putting the supersonic seaplane called the “Sea Dart” through some tests. Those landing ones look particularly dicey! 😬. . The Convair F2Y Sea Dart was an American seaplane fighter aircraft that rode on twin hydro-skis during takeoff and landing. It first flew on 14 January 1953 and was the only seaplane to have exceeded the speed of sound however it never entered mass production.  The program was canceled after a series of unsatisfactory results and a tragic accident on 4 November 1954, in which test pilot Charles E. This P-51 Detroit Miss custom request just finished today 👍. Detroit Miss was flown by Urban "Ben" Leonard Drew (March 21, 1924 – April 3, 2013) He was a fighter pilot in the United States Army Air Forces and a flying ace of World War II. He was the first and the only Allied pilot to shoot down two Luftwaffe jet-powered Me 262 aircraft in a single mission while flying a propeller-driven North American P-51 Mustang. He received the Air Force Cross for the mission in 1983. . By wars end he had completed 75 missions and was credited with 6 aerial victories, 1 ground victory, 1 damaged and 1 water kill, in which he and his wingman sank and burned the largest aircraft in world, the Blohm & Voss BV238-V1 on 18 September 1944. Hitler was going to use it to bomb Washington and New York City. From KCRA3 FAA: 2 hospitalized after old military plane crashes in Stockton STOCKTON, Calif. — Two people were hospitalized after a plane crash in Stockton on Saturday night, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. The plane, which the Federal Aviation Administration said was a multi-engine North American B-25, crashed into a field on Roberts Road and Muller Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. The sheriff's office said the pilot was trying to land on the field but hit an irrigation ditch. Three people were on board the military plane. Two of them were taken to a nearby hospital, the sheriff's office said. One person was able to walk away from the crash. All three people are expected to survive, the sheriff's office said. Residents are asked to avoid the area. It is unclear what caused the crash.
