It's very important to me that you understand that "their relationship had deteriorated into their own private hunger games" implies not only they were hunting each other, but also that they were both scared of each other and fearing for their lives

#basic take I am aware but I just find their last scene so fascinating from a narrative point of view there are so many layers #I am obsessed bc yes Lucy Gray was definitely scared with reason #but Coryo was having a whole break down jumping from ''she won't tell'' to ''she won the hunger games for a reason I might actually die''#was he probably bitten by a two headed sipo or something (most harmless little thing I can think of)#HOWEVER. However. I have a headcanon. Sprung to life while writing them in fact #I'm kinda hinging the entire thing on this single phrase bc it's branded in my brain really #the ballad of songbirds and snakes #snowbaird
