The practice had ended, but it felt like almost nothing at all. With the wide gap of time between on-ice playtime, he hardly feels like he's gotten much of a workout in. He'd barely broken a sweat out there on the ice. He doesn't feel prepared for the game against the Flames.

"Well," one of the many voices in the locker room states flatly, "who's fault is that?"

Teuvo doesn't dignify it with a response, he knows he's to blame for the lateness of the practice and the choppiness of the workout. He doesn't much care, he'd got happier things to think about.

"Don't listen to them," Sepe says in the stall beside him. "They're just hungry." His stomach gives an audible grumble and Teuvo gets a rueful smile in response.

Teuvo brushes the comments off, again, if he were really bothered by them, they'd know. They're just messing with him and he accepts it. He did break a glass panel, after all. It was, in his opinion both impressive and an inconvenience. It took them longer to get out of the arena than planned which meant less downtime before the game. Some of the guys got a bit defensive if they didn't have the proper amount of time to themselves to prepare for the game. He got it, he could be the same way.

Often he was accused of having tunnel vision. He was a guy that was dialed into the games and when he laced up his skates, be it for practice or a game, he was all in. Off the ice was another story, sometimes. He wasn't known for being the most strict on his diet but he wasn't one to let himself go, either. He liked to relax and have fun. Some of the guys on the team could take a lesson from him, in his opinion.

He stows his gear in the cubby he's been given for the game, each piece laid out in the hopes of drying out before the game. A short practice isn't enough to make the gear gross, but it's enough for them to need an airing out. When he has everything set out the way it should be, the showers call his name. It's loud and warm in the team locker room, the steam obstructing his vision and the noise muting his senses. He pays very little attention to others around him, deciding to focus more on getting himself clean and back to his hotel so that he can give you a call.

He hadn't thought when he asked you out. It was so off the cuff he couldn't believe he'd even said it. An errant thought running through his head and out of his mouth before he had a chance to catch it. Perhaps the most shocking part of the story was that you had actually agreed to go out with him.

He shouldn't have asked, even Sepe had been wary when he'd told him about it, but Teuvo didn't care. You were cute and he kind of liked the little bit of your personality that he could see. He didn't figure much would come from it, it was just dessert. Not to mention the fact that he would be on a plan in less than 24 hours and the two of you likely wouldn't cross paths again. It was just a nice way to spend an evening.

At lease, he was hoping it would be a nice way to spend the evening. It wasn't like he knew what he was getting himself into. He could text Noah, see if he could give him any insight, but that seemed a little overboard. He was perfectly capable of managing a date on his own. He was even a little excited at the prospect of the date. To know that, regardless of the outcome of the game tonight, he had something to look forward to; something that didn't involve going straight by to his hotel room and passing out from exhaustion.

The warm water of the shower stung the cold tips of his fingers and toes but released the tension in his tight muscles as he washed away the residual residue of the practice he'd just had. He could hear a few of the guys behind him, talking; exchanging chirps with each other. They were amped up for the game against the Flames. He didn't blame them, he was too, but instead of joining in, the normally reserved Finn stayed quiet and let the noises move to the background.

By the time he was done with his shower and dressed, half the team had filed out of the locker room and were on their way back to the hotel. He was met at the door by Sepe, who was leaning against the door jam in a most casual way that Teuvo that he was bored.

Teuvo rolled his eyes as he grabs his stuff. "You didn't have to wait for me," he says, voice low as he slips past his friend. He's not waiting for Sebastian to catch up, he knows the other will.

"Of course I did," Sebastian says, "the last time I let you wander around this place on your own you decided to date the enemy."

Teuvo scoffs but doesn't look back at his friend while he walks. "She's not the enemy and it's just dessert. What do you care?"

"I don't." Comes the lie Teuvo can see through. He glances back at his friend, eyebrow raised in a silent challenge. "I just think it's pointless to waste your time."

"It's not a waste of time, Sepe," Teuvo says with a shrug. "It's just dessert, I made her miss her game. I'm apologizing."

Sebastian clucks his tongue in disbelief and Teuvo resolutely ignores it. He doesn't need to explain himself to anyone, especially not his overly judgemental friend. He was apologizing. That was the whole point of the evening. It was the story he'd given Sebastian when he'd been asked about joining the guys for drinks after the game while they waited for the glass to be repaired and he was sticking to it.

On the bus, Teuvo pulls out his phone to send you a message. He's got a few missed calls from friends back in Raleigh and even more text messages. All wanting to wish him and the team luck for the game tonight. He swipes the notifications away, he'll get back to those when he feels like it... if he remembers. He pulls up the message he'd sent about an hour ago and types out a send message.

[[Teuvo]]: Heading back to the hotel. [[Teuvo]]: I'd call but I'm on the bus

The bus is a noise bit of business and not filled with the kindest of ears. The conversation between the two of you is one he would prefer to keep to himself.

[[Y/N]]: It's okay, I'm in a meeting. [[Y/N]]: We can talk this way.

Teuvo doesn't want to interrupt your meeting. His top teeth worry his bottom lip as his fingers hover over the keypad.

[[Teuvo]]: Are you sure [[Teuvo]]: I don't want you getting in trouble

[[Y/N]]: Totally sure [[Y/N]]: Just don't make me laugh [[Y/N]]: They'll Know I'm not paying attention

Teuvo smiles to himself at your response and shakes his head. He hopes he's not going to get you in trouble but he still texts you anyway.

[[Teuvo]]: No promises on not making you laugh [[Teuvo]]: I'll have you know I'm very funny.

[[Y/N]]: Is that so?

He can almost hear the challenge in your text. It makes him laugh a little. The guys on the team would have chirped him for his statement. Sebastian would have supplied the "looking" to the end of his "I'm very funny" statement. It's almost strange talking to someone who doesn't chirp him.

[[Y/N]]: I hope I get to see that side of you tonight.

He sets the phone down for a moment as he collects his things to get off the bus and head into the hotel. The smile on his face is soft, tugging on at the corners of his full lips and softening the edges of his eyes. Sebastian gives him a strange look, but Teuvo ignores it. He's not getting into this with him again.

Teuvo lets himself into his room, his bag dropping by the door and his shoes follow suit. He's laying face down on the bed before the door to the room has even swung fully shut.

[[Teuvo]]: We're all heading back to the hotel after the game [[Teuvo]]: I can meet you outside? [[Teuvo]]: How far is the place you had in mind from our hotel?

He doesn't figure he needs to tell you which hotel they're at. That knowledge would have been shared within the Flames organization as part of the coordination packet that went with the Hurricane's visit.

He scoffed a little at the idea of an Uber but then had to remember that you work alongside Hockey players on a daily basis. Your offer of an Uber wasn't meant to be a chirp, it was genuine. You understood how tiring a game was.

He sets the phone off to the side, deciding that rather than doing anything productive, like spend time with teammates or play video games, not that either of those things was productive. His body was relaxed from the shower he'd taken, which was what he needed for the upcoming game. His mind was free from worry, but teaming with excitement, not just for the game either. Sleep would be a good way to pass the time, rather than letting the nervous energy build inside.

The alarm will wake him when it's time to get up. Or Sebastian will barge into his room and disrupt his moments of zen and quiet, as was the norm. He didn't really care at the moment. His eyes are already falling shut, head nestled on his arms and between the two soft pillows. Sleep was an easy thing to find, the sandman was waiting for him, all too happy to sprinkle a little magic over his mind and lull him into contentment.
