next week we're gonna make parchment and gold beater's skin, very excited
#it's something super interesting and yes it involves working with animal carcasses but it's fascinating#and it's important to know the material you work with imo#also would be weird if i got squeamish at a dead sheep when i eat meat like it's the same thing and it's interesting to follow recipes#written by people centuries ago#so fascinating#we work with a lot of animal/protein based things both objects and glue/strengthening agents#because they're proven to work for decades to centuries while artificial glues are only tested through artificial aging#and with no esoteric intent theres something cool about handling the objects and materials#and you have a lot more respect for objects like old manuscripts when you know the work and the hundreds of animals that went into it
