I dislike the tiktokification of art. I don't like weirdcore or kidcore, the whole -core phenomenon started before tiktok but i think that website made it worse. I don't like the compulsion to categorize a body of work into a shallow pinterest genre - and I like making pinboards! I don't think I'm well-spoken enough to articulate myself on this matter, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, reducing something down for consumption by others. Naturecore, lovecore...

I don't think it's a bad thing to want to give a name to a nebulous visual aesthetic to find more of it, but it makes me sad to see artists who restrain themselves to a specific style of art that has no real thought put into it beyond "oh, this is what this type of art Looks Like, so mine needs to look like it too." don't get me started on "weirdcore", lol, i hate it so much.
