Creative Block: A cry for help

When I was first given the task to create and design some infographics for Sydney Metro I immediately became overwhelmed as it was my first real task in a professional environment and my anxiety almost got the better of me. I was shy and quiet in the office and felt intimidated by the people surrounding me. I was afraid to ask questions or ask for help, or even to ask how to connect to the wifi so I just sat there with my notebook writing down the immediate ideas that came to mind. It took a while for a creative flow to come, but it eventually did. However after an hour of thinking of the same thing and reading the same facts and information I had been given, my mind went completely blank and I immediately began thinking I was in way over my head with what I was required to do. What settled me down was when Louise informed me that she wanted to see a draft in two weeks, which meant I had plenty of time to go away and come back to the task with a fresh mind and hopefully some fresh ideas.

Internship Update...

Over the past few weeks, I have been visting the George Street building for Sydney Metro and have been working on some deliverables for the Professional Occupational Hygienist. These deliverables include infographics that will be used at the front of every awareness package created on health risks for the Sydney Metro program, as well as a Powerpoint presentation that will be used for toolbox talks.

When applying for this Internship I knew the work wouldn’t exactly replicate what I have studied in class. In units such as Advertising: Creative, we focused on commercial advertising and the work I am currently undertaking involves more non-commercial advertising, which is something I prefer. This type of work provides opportunities to focus on important matters like health and safety in the work place.
