Last Song: I’m not a big music listener, but I do have a playlist that helps keep work boredom at bay. It’s every genre under the sun, and the most recent on it was Ends Of The Earth by Lord Huron

Currently Watching: I’m finally getting around to the Willow series. I have such fond memories of the film, and even though I’m halfway through the first season I’m not sure I like it. It’s not meant to be as gritty and serious as something like GoT but at the same time it doesn’t quite know what tone it is going for, and the dialoge is constantly brushing thr fourth wall as if this is still 2017 and meta jokes are funny. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but nothing spectacular either.

Currently Reading: Since finishing Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton (think Victorian comedy of manners but with dragons) I’ve started on Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian. Does this have something to do with the past life of a certain N Sewell? Maaaaybe. But so far it’s really good, and Stephen Maturin has leapt towards being one of my favourite characters of all time. I’m really glad I’ve already seen the film, though, because it means I can put some faces to the many, many names in the book.

Current obsession: My writing, for one - I have my Prince Alistair AU, a spicy NatexLeah oneshot, and a third, secret fic in the works -  and Planet Crafter, which is what’s actually taking up most of my free time

I was just thinking about how I wasn’t really taught any basic human skills like cooking so now I’m just really soft at the idea of my detective asking their BFF N Sewell to teach them how to cook various dishes (they must know like soooo much), and how to brew good tea etc. because N probably wishes they had a kid or something to teach things, like F is kind of a kid to them but I feel like it would just mean the world to N if they could teach someone human things or activities, make them feel more human maybe even a smidge of a human paternal feeling? Is that weird to think or wonder? I just feel like it would mean a lot to them.

Awww that’s a super soft idea, anon! I think you’re right on the money with thinking that N getting to teach the detective how to cook would mean a lot to them. And I definitely think N has plenty to offer as a BFF. Let’s discuss!

So food is clearly something that N enjoys immensely (as seen by the way they savored every last bite of that blueberry muffin in book one) and I think one of the major reasons for that is because it’s one of the closest ties N has to humanity. 

Food (and the making of it) is a basic human life function, one that becomes completely obsolete when someone becomes a vampire. Heck, vampires can't even stomach human food at all without years of practice dampening down their senses enough for them to be able to taste a dish as a whole instead of just a bunch of individual ingredients. So it’s very telling that N took the time and dedication required to learn to dampen their senses, especially when no one else in Unit Bravo has ever bothered to do the same. 

You know, one could argue that the Warehouse kitchen is just as much N’s space as the library is. And I like to think that it wasn’t added in just because all homes feature some sort of cooking space, but because N genuinely wanted a space where they could indulge in their humanity and make a human meal to enjoy if they felt like doing so instead of just limiting their diet to blood like everyone else in the house. And now with the detective at the Warehouse more often than not, they have an even greater excuse to bust out those pots and pans.

So yeah, I think a BFF or even non-BFF N would be ecstatic if the detective were to express interest in learning how to cook. Like can you imagine how their eyes would light up and how quickly they’d ask when you’re free next because they’d want to get started straight away and there’s just so many cuisines to discover, where would they even start? And I headcanon that N has some old (like seriously OLD) family recipes either written down or stored up in their noggin, so of course they break a couple of those out and maybe the massive nostalgia recreating these old dishes stirs up actually encourages N to open up a smidge and actually share a bit about their family and- 😭😭😭 I have A TON of feelings about N cooking with the detective, okay?

As for your question about what N brings to the table as a BFF, you have a perfect example in game in the form of their relationship with A. N is the first to come to A’s defense and the first by their side in times of trouble. They’re constantly trying to encourage A to step outside of their comfort zone and, while they may gently try to nudge them in the right direction, they always back down the second A makes it clear they’re not ready to talk/take the leap. They’re also not afraid to disagree with A and challenge their decisions, which I think is especially important. They aren’t going to bend over backwards and blindly agree with everything A says just because they’re close. N will state their piece and stand by it, even if it leads to a small argument, because theirs is a friendship founded on mutual respect. 

Now I’m not sure if N’s BFF route with the detective is going to reach the same level as their friendship with A (though it might come close given how deep Sera has mentioned the BFF routes are supposed to be), but it doesn’t have to be a mirror image of N and A’s bond for it to still be rich and meaningful. In N, the detective will find a calming presence who will move heaven and earth to be there when needed. A staunch supporter who encourages them to be greater than they thought possible, a great as N’s always known them to be capable of.  Always willing to lend an ear, a hand, a tissue. Just say the word and they’re there. Honestly, the detective couldn’t ask for a better person in their corner.

for soraya, with immortality comes immorality, or at least in regards to divine judgement. no afterlife means she and n can focus on the here and now!

the whole idea of caging the bird/hiding who they are...soraya and n are both kind of bad at sharing about themselves (although this relationship is what helps soraya get better at opening up bc n is so easy to be vulnerable around). it takes n a little longer to be as open as she so quickly becomes which is fine with her she gets it but she feels connected in a profound way

i love this song for all the romances but especially for n bc of their internal struggle with their nature. the interplay of the sensual and the sexual in vampire/human relationships feels very present in the rhythm. i love the temptation of the detective’s blood....just n being overwhelmed hearing her pulse and the increasing movement of the thing that holds life for vampires and humans alike and how there it rushes through her body (always but esp any time she gets excited over n’s presence....👀)

soraya is also a scientist and thus very clinical about and aware of 1. her human anatomy and 2. the needs of a supernatural like n, but she’s also very trusting/comfortable with n and everything they are....(yes she would offer n her blood in dire circumstances without a question but i am not ready to write about it yet)
