i love when academics who are great in their very specific fields claim things that are so easily and simply disproven by even the most rudimentary understanding of a field that is, on the surface, completely unrelated to it
#science!#a study in sex drugs and french#no seriously it's one of those things that makes me go#'this is why we collaborate!'#it's just... you have this very clever and very well educated person#but because they are just one person#they also have so many things they don't know#that impact the thing that they are talking about#tho after encountering the claim from multiple independent sources#~gas was not that bad a weapon it wasn't that effective~#... dude. sunshine. darling dearest.#we know that we can produce actual serious side effects by giving people placebos#we can get unwanted somatic reactions from giving people sugar pills#what the fuck do you think a widely deployed substance referred to as 'poison gas' is going to do#you could quite possibly get some decent results with coloured dust or steam in a situation like that#please stop it
