Ok, so, I've been trying for too much to think what Pokémon represents best the IkeVap boys and?? I'm clueless H e l p Like maybe Theo could be a Lucario, Nappy an Arcanine, Moz a Glaceon, but honestly? I Do Not Know And I'm Not Sure™️

Truly, I have never been more understood than in this moment 😂😂 I love Pokémon, so it was fun to do this! I just hope I don’t disappoint~

That being said bc I have absolutely no reading comprehension despite appearances, I originally just made a kind of compilation of the Pokémon I thought they would have (if it’s a legendary Pokémon, maybe they’re just Good Bros^TM at least). But given that much of my selections were made on the basis of similarities between each suitor and the pokémon listed, I decided to just add and bold the one that I felt best embodied each character c:

So I thought up an idea for a Johto version of Let's Go and need to share;;

Pokémon Let's Go Pichu and Let's Go Togepi

You start off the same way as GSC/HGSS, you get called to Professor Elm to run an errand for him. Cue standard Mother things of giving you your Pokégear and asking if you'd like to save some money. Difference being that now you can now access your saved money through your Pokégear, instead of having to go back to New Bark Town. Your Mother still buys items with your money though.

Professor Elm gives you a Pokémon Egg to take to Mr. Pokémon, north of Cherrygrove City. Unlike the original games, you can get to his house without encountering any wild Pokémon, they leave you alone because you aren't considered a threat to them. Interacting with a Pokémon will trigger either a "shoo!" or short patting animation. You aren't a trainer yet so you can't catch any Pokémon.

You get to Mr. Pokémon's house and give him the egg. He notices that it's close to hatching and Professor Oak (who is there as well, just like GSC/HGSS) asks that you help them out making sure it does so smoothly and comfortably. Cue a new mini-game feature of caring for and polishing eggs, which helps them hatch faster (Eggs are the New Hit Feature™ of these games, so think of this like the opening of PikaVee where you catch your partner).

After you complete the mini-game, it hatches into either Pichu or Togepi, depending on your version. You are the person it sees after hatching, so it takes a shine to you. This is when Professor Oak gives you a new model Pokédex to deliver back to Professor Elm. You leave Mr. Pokémon's house to head back to New Bark, your new partner hopping up into bag (this'll be important later, but it also harkens back to how Misty would carry Togepi in the anime). You can now catch Pokémon and access the "Play with Pichu/Togepi" option in the menu.

As you leave, Professor Elm calls you and tells you one of his Pokémon has been stolen and to get back right away! You head on back, but run into this game's Silver-but-not-Silver character. He's scared and running, but you startle him and he challenges you to a battle in a panic. He sends out Pichu or Togepi, depending on your version. Your partner jumps into the frey to protect you. After the battle, he leaves in a hurry, dropping his ID. He snatches it back, but you see his name anyway. You get back to Professor Elm's Lab, and this is where you find out that the kid you fought stole a newly discovered Pokémon the Professor had been caring for for study. This is where you tell the policeman what you saw on the kid's ID and name your rival.

Professor Elm lets you keep your new partner, believing that it'll be safer with you than with him. Obviously, Pichu/Togepi won't evolve, but like in PikaVee, it'll have Perfect IVs and significantly better stats than normal.

The game then goes on like normal, with a few changes:

HMs are replaced with items your partner can fetch from your bag. You can also use any Pokémon that would reasonably be able to do what the HM would call for ie, Machoke for Rock Smash/Strength or a Lapras for Surf

Johto Starters are acquired at certain points throughout the game, with the locations referencing where Ash caught his in the anime.

Silver is still in this game, but he's more tied to the Team Neo Rocket storyline than before, with any non-Rocket encounters with him being replaced with this new character, who we'll call Grey for simplicity's sake. Silver is also explicitly stated to be Giovanni's son by Archer. In addition, Gold and Crystal also appear. Crystal appears everywhere Lyra did in HGSS and also tracks Suicune as a rival to Eusine. Gold appears as an extra challenge character in your Kanto Gym Challenge. Gold and Silver challenge you to a double battle before your trek up Mt. Silver, so see if you're strong enough for it. Crystal battles you before your final battle with Suicune at Cerulean Cape.

The Kimono Girls appear and have the same role as they do HGSS. They help you summon Ho-oh in Let's Go Pichu, and Lugia in Let's Go Togepi. The opposite bird is then available in the post-game, as is tradition.

Grey is a frightened young man who is forced to steal to survive because of his family's criminal past with Team Rocket, especially his older brother, Archer. (You find this out at the Radio Tower, when Grey arrives to help after Lance and Silver give him the courage to resist in Mahogany Town, Lance in a more "you can do it" kind of way, Silver in a more "get off your ass and do something about it" kind of way) He eventually realises his own strength and fully evolves his partner by the Elite Four.

The Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage and the Lapras in Union Cave are Legendary Battles, like the Snorlax, Legendary Birds and Mewtwo in Let's Go PikaVee

There are more sections where you control your partner, as opposed to just one like in Let's Go PikaVee

Blue is still the Viridian City Gym Leader, Red is still on Mt. Silver, Green does something similar to her PikaVee appearance.

Go Park replaces the Johto Safari Zone from HGSS, making a total of two Go Parks accessible in these games. This increases the capacity of Pokémon you can transfer from Go, to accommodate for the increase in trasferable Pokémon.

Jesse, James and Meowth replace the Rocket Grunt who has the Machine Part.

...But You Still Gotta Catch ‘em All...

One thing that Generation One didn’t have much of was a post-game. Once you completed the main story there wasn’t much to do aside from heading to the newly accessible Cerulean Cave to catch Mewtwo and finish off your Pokédex.

Generation Two improves on this in a huge way.

One of the reasons it is taking me rather a long time to complete the all the Gen2 games, is that once you finish your journey around Johto, the option becomes available to hop on a boat and travel back to Kanto - the setting for Generation One. It turns out that Kanto and Johto are situated right next to each other and in fact the Indigo Plateau, where you battle the Elite Four and the current champion, is the same place in both generations.

This is a huge expansion, as it is essentially an entire second game to play. It is fantastic fun, giving you the chance to visit all the old areas and challenge your Kanto favourites. Misty, Brock, Lt. Surge, Sabrina, and almost all of the rest return, giving you another eight gym badges to collect, giving a total of sixteen across both regions. However, not everything is the same as when you left it.

In the two years since you battled your way around Kanto in Gen1, the Elite Four have some new membership - most notably the Fuschia City gym leader, Koga, who has been promoted, leaving his former gym in the charge of his daughter, Janine. If you defeat the Elite Four this time around, you will find that Lance, formerly of the Kanto Elite Four, is now the champion, ready to challenge you with his insanely powerful (mostly) Dragon-type team.

There have been some geographical changes too. A huge volcanic eruption has wiped out Cinnabar Island, destroying the Pokémon Mansion - which has housed the journals explaining how Mewtwo was cloned from Mew - and the Pokémon Lab - which was where fossils could be resurrected into Kabuto, Omanyte, and Aerodactyl. The Pokémon Gym on this island has also been destroyed and Blaine is forced to operate out of a small cave in the Seafoam Islands. There is also no trace of Mewtwo in the Cerulean Cave, or any of the Legendary Birds; Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres.

With Team Rocket disbanded, the Celedon Game Corner now operates as a legitimate business and not a front for Team Rocket’s secret HQ and, more importantly, the Viridian City gym is no longer run by Giovanni, the erstwhile leader of Team Rocket. Instead, new the gym leader turns out to be Gary Motherfucking Oak! Gary, or rather Blue as he is known, since it was default name of your rival in the Gen1 games, still has an incredibly strong and well-balanced team, that doesn’t rely on a single type. It was a genuine surprise to see him turn up in this way and, although he seems a bit more mature, it was as satisfying as ever to defeat him. 

So Blue is back, but what about Red? Well, the protagonist and playable character from Gen1 hasn’t been seen since heading off on journey after becoming champion. Even when you check with his Mum in Pallet Town, she doesn’t know where he is. This sounds like a mystery for you to solve! To be fair, it isn’t the hardest riddle in the world as there is only one area that you haven’t yet visited: Mount Silver, the mysterious mountain that lies between Kanto and Johto, which is home to many high-level pokémon. Previously, this means the area has been deemed ‘too dangerous’ by Professor Oak (yes, he is also still knocking around), but after earning your sixteenth gym badge, courtesy of defeating Blue, Oak relents and opens up the path to Mount Silver. Once there, is you make your way through caves inside and up to the summit, there is a mysterious and silent figure stood atop the peak in the snow. It’s Red!

Wordlessly he challenges you and the resulting battle is by far the hardest and most intense in any of the Pokémon games that I have played to date. Red has all three fully evolved Kanto starter pokémon - Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise - all at level 77, a level 73 Espeon, a level 75 Snorlax, and a Pikachu (of course) at level 88(!).

None of Red’s pokémon are exactly easy to defeat, but his damn Snorlax and Espeon really gave me problems on every encounter, especially the Snorlax with it’s ability to REST away any damage or status condition whilst using SNORE to attack while sleeping. Fortunately the two new types in Gen2 - Dark and Steel - proved invaluable, with my Dark-types giving some immunity from Espeon and my Steel-types able to withstand Snorlax’s Normal-type moves. Even so, it was incredibly close on all three occasions that I faced Red, with the battles feeling really epic in a way that no battle in any game had before. Once defeated Red vanishes again - although you can rematch against him if you beat the Elite Four again.

I really love the post-game in Generation 2 as it helps to continue the world building that I really enjoy. It is great to see how old characters are doing, how their teams have changed (Misty has acquired a Golduck, a Lapras, and a Quagsire), and how their pokémon have evolved (Brock’s Geodude is now a Graveller). And the cherry on top is the battle against Red. This is definitely the most exciting and challenging pokémon battle I have to date and it’s genuinely thrilling to fight against yourself from the first games, using some of the most iconic pokémon available, and even more thrilling to take him down.

So, I’ve finally completed all three Generation Two games and vanquished Red - essentially the final boss - on each occasion. My Pokédex is looking pretty full, but there are still a few gaps left in it. It’s time to close them out - how hard can that be? Right?

Pokemon Moon Namelocke Episode 5: Encounters of a Random Kind

As the title suggests I was still thirsty for those encounters so after Zigzagoon was acquired I decided to comb around the first location on my Lapras for some more lovely mons while leveling up Kitten at the same time.  Kind of feels like a waste of time, but dark type will eventually come in handy and fake out will help me catch some of these mons.

I went all the way back to that cave by the meadow so I can surf around outside of it and discovered it’s Kala’e Bay on the map, which is a new location so went for my encounter there.

The grass on the outskirts of the area I ran into a female Donald Trump.

Named it Stephanie, because why not?  Now let’s see what it’s Bold nature will buy me.

The second shiny to show up in this locke.  We have ShakeDatBooty the Oddish.  I’m kind of torn about this.... I already have my shiny Capricorn, who is my starter.... and I’m not the type to really consider replacing a starter, but the thing is the Chlorophyll ability would work great with Vulpix’s drought.... but in order to pull that off I’d have to switch out and then in and a grass type really wouldn’t be the best to ever switch into anything unless you are an impish tank like Capricorn.  Even though I’d like to Shake that Body so I don’t hurt nobody he will have to remain on stand by.

The Mememe sea right by the H’aoli Beach Front is also a new location where I caught myself another irrelevant 4th gen Pokemon (Finneon) This Pokemon really disappoints me, because they could have done a lot more work with the design for the type of fish it is.  

It had a hardy nature, which isn’t that big of a deal anymore since my last few trips to Wonder Trade helped me stock that box a little.

..... I don’t even know what to call this little bug I got in exchange.  For right now it will just have to be The Symbol Master.  Already got my VIP bug on the squad so in the box it goes.

Now with those encounters out of the way it’s time to continue the journey.  Got Kitten leveled up so hopefully I won’t be losing anymore Meowths before getting a Persian.  

Once the irrelevant rock tree got out the way (I really dislike sudowoodo blocking paths as though it’s a Snorlax or something actually useful) it was time to hit up the next route for yet another encounter.

Jade is the only name acceptable for a female Lillipup since that’s the name of my Yorkie who was sleeping on my back when I caught this little fellow.  The exchange for this Pokemon in the quiet box was a...

I traded a dog for a DOGE.  I’ve never actually used a Furfrou before, so this is something to consider for the future.... especially since I don’t think I’ll be taking advantage of Farfetch’d normal type that much, but in the box it goes.  Seems kind of lame I know, but my team is fine the way it is really.

What’s most important though.... DID SOMEBODY ORDER A SCRIPTED BATTLE / MINI GAME THAT I’LL NEVER REVISIT?

I don’t know why I’m complaining I’d take Battle Royal over gen 3 contests any day and Misgender agrees.  She was actually pretty good in it using struggle bug which attacks everyone on the field though only thing we accomplished really was taking Hau out of the game.

Now back to the actual story, which always leads to more encounters I took a small stroll in Volcano Park where I caught a Fletchling that I named Cinder.... inspired by RWBY obviously and then went to battle some swimmers and explored some hills where I caught MC DigDug the Diglett as a Route 7 encounter.

During the trainer battles Capricorn leveled up and due to the disappointment of Worry Seed not destroying a Schooling I the move for bullduze to give myself some coverage against steel and poison types though Capricorn will obviously not be making any appearances in the upcoming totem battle.

I’m still feeling comfortable with the team.... only regrets is I feel like Pooperman isn’t getting enough attention.

Before going any further it was time for another exciting round of exchanging Pokemon:

I think this is my first trip to the Bashful box and since the Diggersby is too high of level it was tied between 3 level 1s.

When it came to these three I was rooting for Absol, because I could see actually replacing Meowth with it to be honest because it’s probably faster and is one of my favorite Pokemon, and I could also call it EL much like #11 from Stranger Things, but when it comes to a tie the rules state I must use random generator.

2 means Guy the Litten is welcomed to the Back up Brigade.  Really if one of the Alola starters had to be a Guy Fieri it would be Litten I guess.  Not a bad Poke to have on stand by.

With that out of the way I still have to exchange the Diglett.

I feel like Brave and Timid are the most visited boxes in this game thus far, but there is no tie breaker here.  I only have one choice for exchange.

Welcome to the box there Flower.... I was never a fan of using you in Kalos, because you never really packed a bunch and I felt like the game was forcing you on me to understand Fairy Types, but I can’t hold that against you I guess.  I also hate the gen 5 elemental monkeys, but I have no complaints about Patrick at the moment.

Of course there is no place for Flower cause the next totem is not a fan of Fairy Types.

Speaking of which it’s time to get into it at the peak of the volcano my Trial does lie.

Lately in battles I’ve been leading with Kitten to get that Fake Out attack in, but I’m just going to throw Patrick right out there hoping for a victory.  I promised him if he could win it for me I’d make sure to buy a Water Stone as soon as possible and admit I was wrong about the elemental monkeys.

In my opinion this is one of the hardest battles in the game, because despite it being a fire trial poison is used to it’s full potential here, but at the same time that Hiker Photobomb is still hilarious.

Kyuubi is a huge consideration for this battle because of extrasensory, but I don’t want the enemy taking advantage of that drought ability.

Finally time to take on the ugly fire lizard.  I beckon Patrick to use taunt to save me from toxic, but he is too slow.... luckily I fed him enough beans today so he shrugged it off.  Not wanting to suffer from that again I just straight up unleash the Water Z move, which leaves the enemy with 10% before sucking up the damage I receive and finishing him off with a scald.

The totem’s ally Pokemon was the most dangerous tbh with the poison gas venoshock combo I was close to losing Patrick.  I had no choice but do the thing I said I wouldn’t do.... let Kyuubi finish the battle.  She got hit pretty hard, but was faster, so with two extrasensorys the battle was over.

Kyuubi’s eyes say it all.  She is the strongest member of my team and she knows it.  She knows I’m considering using Pooperman in the grass Trial, but is making it clear that she is my crutch as she always brings me the victory.  To not use here and celebrate these moments would be a complete insult to her reputation.

I feel like she’s the one in charge tbh... but this is the first episode where no one died and this means I owe Patrick an apology and that water stone.

Alright, time to catch many things.

First, I caught a Snorlax on Route 16, named it Bernie. Then, started going down Cycling Road, where tragically, Xuth's life was cut short. Fortunately, I already had a plan of what to replace Xuth with anyway. After all, Confusion is nice but it's not STAB.

I continued down cycling road until I hit Fuschia City, acquired the Good Rod there, and then flew to Vermillion, knocked out that dupe Snorlax, and then fished for a Poliwag! It was my first non-dupe encounter on Route 12, and its name is Tad. I started going down Silence Bridge training Tad. On Route 13 I caught a Ditto whose name is :), and while trying to find a Venonat on Route 14, Tad evolved into Poliwhirl! After that, I flew to Cerulean City and traded Tad for a Jynx, which, sadly, comes pre-named LOLA.

I flew to Fuschia, finishing the eastern path there from the other end, catching a Venonat after two consecutive Ditto encounters, whose name is Arctid. While clearing out trainers, LOLA reached Level 31 and learned Ice Punch, which, in addition to the TM Psychic, makes her officially a kick-ass addition to the party.

Of course, now Route 14 has nothing for me. If I were smart I'd have fished on Route 13 and caught Ditto on Route 14, but I'm NOT smart, so I didn't.

After that, I flew over to Cycling Road to finish clearing it out, now that I'm equipped with a Psychic type for all those Grimers and Koffings. After encountering 7 consecutive Spearows, I finally found a Doduo, who I caught and dubbed "Moa". Route 18 yields only fish, so I caught a Goldeen amed Matsya there.

After clearing out every single trainer available to me the East and West of Fuschia City, I headed into the Safari Game, where I had four encounters for four different areas... and all of them; two Exeggcutes, a Nidorina and a Krabby; ran away from me.

I did get Surf and Strength though. I taught Surf to Minos, and decided I'd test the waters of Fuschia City's gym, to see what sort of level the gym trainers were at. At this point, I'm feeling pretty confident, especially since both Lola and Cingu are super effective on the Poison types there. Oh, it's also now technically November 16th.

... Sadly. The first battle I met in this gym, a Hypno... did do a murder. It did TWO murders, actually.

Minos - my starter, who has been with me since the beginning... and Lola, who had been doing SO well for me before... they BOTH fell.

This... discouraged me. To say the very least. This is a huge kick in the nards. I'm not even sure how to recover from this. I guess the Silph Co. Lapras will have me covered for Water and Ice type coverage (and for Surfing), but... my Ice Beam /and/ Psychic TMs both got eaten. That's downright disastrous. I'm so disheartened that I've been playing Pokemon Emerald just for some comfort food. Like... damn.

Xuth, Minos and Lola. Goodbye, dear friends.

I’m not going to bother updating the Pokemon in the sidebar until after next update. I’d like to at least know what I’m putting in those slots first.
