Celebi special research + Johto “festival” are now on!!

a not-too-spoilery warning: both the field tasks and Celebi tasks seem to have a theme of evolution items, so keep that in mind... (ie. use the field task rewards to prep for the celebi tasks, and don’t use evolution items right away in case you need them for celebi stage 6 or something down the line) (also maybe refrain from evolving any Eevee... just sayin...)

also be on the lookout for several shinys!! Sunkern, Natu, and Pineco shinys were just introduced, but don’t forget that Houndoor and Snubbull also have shinys and they too are spawning more frequently during the Johto event

some of the new field tasks (from pokestops) include:

catch 3 Sunkern for [evolution item]

make 3 excellent throws for Onix or Scyther

catch 5 water types for Poliwhirl or Seadra

win a raid for Porygon

make 4 great curveball throws in a row for Miltank

evolve 3 Sunkern or Natu for a Pineco

for anyone like me who actually likes “spoilers” for the Celebi research (i like to be prepared, whatever lol), under the readmore is what’s been revealed so far for the Celebi tasks

Stage 1/8 will already be visible for you

Stage 2/8

make 3 new friends

(apparently unfriending and refriending current Friends will work and you won’t lose your friendship progress; this could be fixed in the future by Niantic, they’ve done similar in the past)

evolve an evolved grass-type pokemon

(meaning 2nd to 3rd stages only - Treekco to Grovyle won’t work, it has to be Grovyle to Sceptile; however some people reporting that Nuzleaf and Lombre aren’t working for some reason)

catch a pokemon 3 days in a row

Stage 3/8

reach level 25

use a sunstone to evolve a Gloom or Sunkern

hatch 9 eggs

Stage 4/8

walk 10 km with Eevee as your buddy to earn candy 

evolve an Eevee into an Espeon during the day 

send 20 gifts to friends

(assumedly we can just send 1 gift to 20 diff friends, if you have that many lol)

Stage 5/8

walk 10 km with Eevee as your buddy to earn candy

evolve an Eevee into an Umbreon at night

trade a pokemon

Stage 6/8

visit pokestops 7 days in a row

use 25 pinap berries while catching pokemon

use items to evolve pokemon 2 times

possible tasks for 7/8, yet unconfirmed:

catch [#] grass or psychic type pokemon

earn a gold Johto medal
