#s#house md#that episode about the girl who cant sleep and wants to ditch her gf but then needs her gfs liver?#theres a line where house implies he didnt do anything about foreman screwing over cameron because foreman wi never change but cameron#might learn something. this is fascinating because it implies people CAN change for the worse (more selfish) but not for the better#which makes no sense unless you assume that the cameron stance (fairness and respect) is the default and the foreman stance (advancing your#own self interest) is inherently the thing you learn after some kind of confrontation with reality#which then begs the questions a. if the two's reality (their work environment aka house) encouraged fairness and selflessness#would that not be the case? and b. what if house ran his department in a way that rewarded fairness?#then foreman in order to act in his own self interest would have to respect camerons rights#i dont have a conclusion i just think the extent to which this kind of trashy hospital drama actually encourages thinking about#ethical dilemmas is genuinely so impressive. no wonder I've been lowkey obsessed with it for years
