i played knights of the nine again to put off finishing the main quest and its still like the most disappointing expansion ive ever seen

im not even going to go into how creatively barren and worthless it is with its silly medieval knight chivalry catholic shit bc that would take all day, (like if the main game is frustrating in terms of it turning the really creative worldbuilding into medieval europe then this is 20000x that). but like just in general its so weak. 

like the beginning is really cool, you think oh wow everyone at this chapel got slaughtered and its this nasty scene okay ill bite but then its like “you have to become pelinel whitestrake the holy awesome crusader for jesus i mean the divines”. and the thing with that is, unless youve been reading ingame texts (which most people dont) you have no idea who pelinel is. and IF youve been reading ingame texts, youre going like “what” because pelinel is described as like, a complete psychopath, even by sources sympathetic to him hes kind of shown as an insane mass murderer of possibly divine origins. which is in REALLY, really stark contrast to what youre shown and the general tone of the dlc.

and the main villain has absolutely no presence whatsoever and youre even less likely to know who the fuck umaril the unfeathered is and you really arent given any reason to care. im not sure what his motivation is even supposed to be and hes just not that threatening? like the daedric lord of destruction is attempting to invade the mortal realm and youre telling me i should be concerned about this old elf fuck just because hes menacing some churches. go to hell. like yeah theres no buildup whatsoever you just get some old artifacts and then mysterious prophet guy is like “youre pelinel now” and nothing feels gained or earned. a bunch of random people show up and youre told theyve joined the order but you dont feel anything. its soo bad.

like i wish they could have tied it into the main quest somehow and have the events be related to but not directly connected to mehrunes dagon’s invasion?? or if was like... self aware at least? maybe bring minotaurs into it somehow (given morihaus being important to the story and also being the coolest thing in cyrodiilic lore). drop the whole corny knight thing altogether and have it just be that the ghost of this ancient freak contacting you to finish his battle. or KEEP the corny knight thing but have a tongue in cheek aspect where pelinel is more involved and speaks to you a few times and like, while these knights are going on about valor and honorable crusaders or whatever the guy theyre venerating is like, obviously fucking insane and bloodthirsty.  idk
