The sound of ice breaking drained the color from your face. You knew you shouldn't have been walking out on the frozen lake but you were trying to get home faster. Going around the lake took too long and you needed to get home immediately. You didn't have a chance to regret your actions before you were plunged into freezing water.
Everything went numb as you sank lower and lower into the dark water.
A blur came towards you and in a flash it was on you. Lips pressed against yours and suddenly you could breathe. Your eyes widened but you couldn't see. The water was too dark for you to see. All you knew was that you were moving in the water but you weren't sure what direction you were going until suddenly you were out of the water and on top of the air. Gasping for air you looked back to see a sickly pale face. Large inky black eyed stared back at you. Her hair looked like black goo sticking to her. She was a terrifying sight but you couldn't find it in yourself to be scared of her. How could you be scared of the one who saved your life.
In a blink of an eye she was back down into the murky water. Quickly you got up and rushed back home not wanting to be dripping wet in the dark.
The next day you came back much earlier in the day with warm clothes on and a basket of dried fish. You wanted to give her some food as thanks for saving you, you weren't sure what she would like but fish seemed like a safe bet. Picking up a big stick you walked to the end of the dock. Using the stick you broke a hole in the ice.
The ripples in the water from your actions caught her attention. Grabbing the stick she ripped it from your hands into the water. She hadn't seen you yet, just the cool stick she was going to keep. When the smell of fish touched the water she quickly grabbed it and scarfed it down. Growing curious she swam up and looked up to see you.
Popping her head out of the water she stared at you tilting her head curiously. Her already wide eyes somehow got bigger when you offered her another fish. She happily trilled as she grabbed you and pulled you into the water.
You gave her a cool stick and fish. She accepted your courtship. Your unknowing courtship.
