Witset, BC (No. 1)

Witset (formerly Moricetown) is a Wet'suwet'en village in Central British Columbia, Canada on the west side of the Bulkley River on Coryatsaqua (Moricetown) Indian Reserve No. 2, and on Moricetown Indian Reserve No.1. The current village was built during the early 1900s. Evidence of inhabitants date back to around 5,500 years ago.

The original name of the village was Witset. It was abandoned after a rockslide that prevented salmon from reaching the canyon. Witsuwit'en people then settled in Tsë Cakh (Hagwilget) and referred to the old village as Këyikh Wigit (often spelled Kyah Wiget).

It was renamed after the pioneer missionary Father Adrien-Gabriel Morice, who named the village after himself, and was admonished by the church for doing so.

On May 5, 2018, the community officially reverted to its original name, Witset. The community’s name now means something akin to “first” or “the people of the first village.” The name change came about in part through the work of Wanda Nikal, a Wet'suwet'en woman who organized a petition over the issue. In September 2017, the Band Council voted in favour of the name change.

Jum’at (11/11/2022). Bela negara bukan tugas TNI Polri saja tetapi merupakan tugas seluruh masyarakat sebagai warga negara sesuai dengan UUD 1945 pada pasal 27 ayat 3. Sedangkan tugas bagi pelajar dalam melaksanakan Bela Negara yaitu belajar dengan baik agar apa yg menjadi cita-cita dapat berhasil maka dengan hal seperti itu sudah merupakan bagian dari bela negara yang merupakan salah satu cinta tanah air. Kepala sekolah Wigit Marseto Adji mengungkapkan rasa bangga dan senang bisa menghadirkan Danramil untuk bertatap muka langsung dengan para anak didiknya dalam upaya pencegahan Bullying dikalangan siswa dan memberikan materi Nasionalisme. Ditambahkan Kepala Sekolah bahwa dengan adanya kegiatan seperti ini antar siswa bisa saling menghargai dan tidak ada lagi yang Bullying. Materi Nasionalisme juga disampaikan guna menanamkan rasa cinta tanah, cinta terhadap sekolah serta untuk memotivasi agar lebih giat lagi dalam mengikuti pelajaran. “Okay so in this abandoned supermarket we just need to take pictures of ghost types?” Hana had Wigit gliding around as they looked for signs of ghost activity…however knowing how much ghost types loved Hana she knew it wouldn’t take long.

Especially when as soon as she walked in through the door she felt frozen as if several things were stopping her from moving…but it wasn’t scary it was more cuddly…?
