tw: mentions of murder
As I sit down to review the notes that I made in 2012 for Kayla, I'm reminded that she originally came from Broken Bow, Nebraska. Pandemonix begins with her family being murdered by Satyrs, as they try to bring her to Hell and to Lucifer.
Oh, the twisted web I weave.

Pandemonix is set in the Prime Universe of Fantasy Worlds Collide. It is to follow the story of Kayla Winters and Alexander Maloney and the Military Order of Divvik.
This was part of the original world that featured Bianca in it as a succubus before the FWC changes. The final arc of Bianca's story is going to see her taking on Kayla here when she is older and Sephiroth vs Alexander (Archangel Michael).
tw: violence. religious themes. angels and demons. vivid descriptions of wounds.
Kayla cried out, the scream piercing through the rain as the demon’s clawed hand reached for her, still dripping with her father’s blood. Something powerful came over Kayla. She glared into his crimson eyes, the fires of Hell staring back at her. Her heart danced within her chest, beating out a furious warcry. Blood pounded in her ears.
As the powerful hand clutched at her throat, easily squeezing off her air, her voice was cut off. Lazral towered over her. He lifted her into the air. Her feet kicked at his ribs. She threw her small fists against the iron grip in vein.
“Stand and deliver, spawn of Asmodeus!” a voice trumpeted, clear above the din, interrupting Lazral. Kayla had never heard such a voice. The smooth, melodic nature had the effect of soothing her, but it affected the opposite upon Lazral.
Lazral let her go and backed away quickly. Although she was no longer touching the demon, she could feel his tremble. She wondered what could cause such a being such palpable terror. Forgetting about Lazral for a short time, she turned to face her rescuer.
To her surprise, it was only a man, though he was unlike any she had ever seen. There was a righteousness to each step. He was crowned with a mop of golden brown hair that swirled around his head like the halos in the illustrations of her father’s old Bible. The details of his face seemed to be chiseled from marble, and his crystal blue eyes pierced menacingly into Lazral.
Kayla bent down and plucked a fallen branch by her father’s body. If the man needed help killing the creature, she would aid as best as she could, but she didn’t think he would need it.
The wind and hail did not affect him as he strode toward the demon. The tailcoat of his trench coat danced in the gale. In fact, if she didn’t understand the weather like she did, she would had said even the rain bent around her savior. He pulled a sword from his back, the argent blade so pure that it shone like the sun even in the haze of the storm.
The man whispered a mantra to God, and in the next moment, to Kayla’s astonishment, the blade was engulfed in a flame that burned white hot. She scampered to the man.
“That’s not necessary!” Lazral pleaded. His face was a pathetic twisted mess of fear.
The man took a step forward.
“I will go back, tell my master that she is protected!” Lazral’s claws dug into the palm of his hands. Blood dripped from the wounds, the cuts spreading as he tried to get away from the man’s stare. “Do not kill me!”
“You are right,” the man agreed, pointing the blade at Lazral. “She is protected, but you will not be telling your master anything. You will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire, Hell-spawn. You will suffer as you have caused suffering. Your soul cannot be redeemed. It must be destroyed.”
Lazral bolted, but he was too slow. The flaming sword came crashing down, splitting into the demon’s head like an ax chopping wood. His eyes bulged out of the sockets as the flames engulfed his body. He wailed, the storm raging around him. In the next instant, Lazral blinked out of existence and the storm suddenly dissipated.
Two other men came out of the house, holding swords, though no flames surrounded their blades. They run up to Kayla, obviously trying to shield her from the gruesome view. It was for nothing. She had heard what they had done to her mother, brother, and sister and saw Lazral kill her father.
Kayla blinked in the sunlight. She looked up at her rescuer in awe. He had faced down the demon who threatened her and lived. He possessed the strength to do what she could not.
“Alexander,” one of the other men spoke to the man who had saved her, “no one survived inside. We cannot leave her.”
“I had no intention of leaving her, Peter,” Alexander answered. “The demons will never leave her alone, not if she is the Child of Prophecy. We will take her back to Ireland with us.” He turned to Kayla and looked her in the eyes. She suddenly felt calm, tranquil despite everything that had just transpired.
She threw the branch beside her father’s body. Even at the tender age of eight, she knew she was safer with these men than by herself. Plus, she couldn’t see to the burying of her family without their help.
“You will be trained,” Alexander told her, maintaining that steadying gaze. “It is rare to be able to see them naturally. You’ll be able to protect yourself from them. I will, however, not take you against your will. I need you to trust me. Do you trust me, Kayla?”
How does he know my name? Kayla asked herself. It amazed her that he did, but despite that, there was nothing suspicious about him at all. He wore his intentions on his sleeve, and she could see that he had her best interest in mind. More than that, she didn’t want those creatures coming after her again.
“Yes, sir,” she mewed.
“So you will come with us? It won’t be easy. You deserve to know that.”
“I want to learn to protect myself.”
“You shall,” Alexander promised grimly. His intense, eerie-colored pale blue eyes bore into her, seemingly staring within her soul. “If prophecy is to be trusted, you will do that and more.”

As soon as coffee is done brewing, I am going to start the profile for Alexander of Pandemonix.
I also had an idea of a prophecy for the series, outside of Kayla and her 'whore of babylon' prophecy. It sort of ties into it, though.
Alex and Kayla's son is going to be the 'second coming'. He is going to be a white-haired swordsman: the only one in the book. He is also going to be resentful at Alex since after Alex and Kayla share their first time together, Alex feels a laspe in faith and doesn't treat Kayla very well.
As for the son's name. I haven't come up with one yet.

Heyyy bardic! How's the writing going? Do any of your characters love exploring mazes/labyrinths and stuff? Who would get lost and who would cheat and try and climb the labyrinth walls/ hedges to see over the top?
Hello, Ash. Thank you for the ask, and I hope you are having a wonderful day! How's your own writing going.
Thank you for the awesome question. I'm slowly following a method of writing called The Leviathan method. It helps keep the worldbuilding to what is needed in the novels. If I didn't follow this, my worldbuilding would most likely be the size of Tolkien's.
I am going to answer this for Pandemonix, my low / urban fantasy. As I said, I'm currently in the middle of rewriting it, as well as coming up with a cohesive outline.
Kayla Winters is one of the characters that love a good maze and/or labyrinth. I am sure that this will change when I get further into the novels, when she will have to navigate a maze or she will forever become one of the damned. Kayla is someone who has a rebellious streak. She wouldn't hesitate to climb up the walls and try to see over the top.
In sharp contrast is Knight-Commander Alexander Maloney. He is one to always play by the rules. He leads the Sovereign Military Order of Divvik, which is an off shoot of the Knights of Saint Cross. He is also the love interest. Alex would most likely tell Kayla to settle down and stop 'cheating', as that is unbecoming of a knight. To Kayla, he is a very attractive and stoic man but he has a stick up his butt.

I just woke up and I'm determined to finish the intro post for Timeless Soul today. I've recently changed the hair color of the protagonists of both Timeless Soul and Pandemonix.
Vivian Rossi: Dark red, almost an auburn hair color
Cherelle: White hair. I'm thinking almost curly
Kayla Winters: She is now a blonde.
Alex: Is now a brunette.

Hiya Bardic! Have you had time to work on a wip recently?
Hi, Ash. I hope your day is going well.
I am actually working on my original WIPs again. I'm mostly focusing on two right now: Pandemonix and Timeless Souls. They are set in the same universe: low or urban fantasy.
I lost all of Pandemonix in a data glitch in 2021, which resulted in the loss of my outline and worldbuilding, as well as over 70k words. The interesting thing about Pandemonix is that I tried to learn both Latin and Irish for it. And since I originally wrote the bulk of it in about 2015ish? I retained none of the languages. I also read the Divine Comedy for a bit of research. Pandemonix features a holy order who battles demons/devils that are invisible to a regular person. It's like Supernatural meets the Witcher if you throw in a forbidden love and prophecy between the main characters Alex and Kayla. It also features Rasputin as the antagonist, but the guy pulling everyone's strings is Lucifer and to a lesser extend, as seen in Timeless Souls, Asmodeus.
So, with Pandemonix I am starting all over again. As for learning the languages again, I probably will.
Timeless Souls is currently the WIP I am working on. It is a companion piece to Pandemonix. I wanted to show the other side. There is an off shoot of the Knights of Saint Michael who serves as the antagonist. The demons are the good guys in Timeless Souls. Also, this is my version of vampires. When I started to write it, I had an idea for vampires to just be demons, specifically incubi as I theorized at the time that blood would have the same effect on a vampire/incubi as semen.
Vincent is actually a really tragic guy. He was not turned willingly and lost himself to his bloodlust and ended up murdering his true love. He is so ashamed of himself that he uses sex to keep people away and not let them into his heart.
He also will not turn anyone himself anymore. With Vivian, the reincarnated soul of his true love, he couldn't help himself. She was going to die if it wasn't for his intervention, so he turned her. He just couldn't lose her again.
Thanks again for the question.

Day two of the Leviathan Method still has me filling out Alex's bio. I am working on creating his sword: Aegis. Aegis can erupt in flames if Alex runs his hand along the blade portion of the weapon.
When he is in his true form, he has a 15-foot wingspan with six wings, signaling his archangel / Seraphim status: two wings covering his face, two wings covering his feet, and 2 wings that allow him to fly. He is only seen like this once in the entire trilogy. When he is seen with his wings, it is usually just the two that he manifests out of his back, giving him flight.

2.26.24
Step One: The Scope
I always love to plan my WIPs by exploring how big of a world or distance that I want to cover in any of my works. Before I started to use this method in preparing my manuscript, I would start with the Outline and try to worldbuild / write as I go. I was like a hybrid between a pantser and a plotter.
What’s my scope?
The scope of Pandemonix will feature the Knights of St. Cross as they go about their swore duty: disposing and protecting humanity from the demons belching from the rings of Hell onto Earth. Lucifer, who is gearing up to bring about the Apocalypse, is commanding the demons.
While the prologue for Pandemonix takes place in the United States, the main part of the first book will unfold in different parts of Ireland.
What sort of story do I want to tell?
With Pandemonix, I am interested in relaying the foundation of a grand adventure. It will show the power struggle between the angels and demon, as well as the power struggle between Michael and Lucifer.
It will examine the morality of humanity and the Holy Roman Church. I also love to dive into the societal impact on the behavior of people. What will these religious men and women do when they face the upcoming Apocalypse and what looks like the demons will take over the world? Unrequited love causes the first seal of the Apocalypse to break, resulting in anarchy in the last half of Pandemonix.
What’s the purpose of the story?
The purpose of Pandemonix will be to follow along with the Knights of St. Cross, specifically the Sovereign Military Order of Divvik that is based out of Ireland, as they try to stop Rasputin and the first seal of the Apocalypse from breaking.
There will be a prophecy surrounding the main protagonist, Kayla Winters, and her relationship with Knight-Commander Alexander Michael Augustus Maloney. He resists sleeping with her as he believes the prophecy will cause Kayla’s transformation as the ‘Whore of Babylon’ and will deliver her pure soul to Lucifer.
Summary:
The stage is set for a battle between the forces of Heaven and Hell in Pandemonix. This is embodied by the Knights of St. Cross and the demonic hordes led by the fallen angel Lucifer himself. The looming apocalypse threatens to engulf humanity against the backdrop of Ireland. The Sovereign Military Order of Divvik, led by Knight-Commander Alexander Michael Augustus Maloney, stands as the last line of defense against the encroaching darkness. As prophecies intertwine with personal struggles, the fate of Kayla Winters becomes a focal point. Her destiny bends the delicate balance of good and evil. With the specter of betrayal looming overhead, Kayla and her fellow knights must prevent the risen corpse of Rasputin and the breaking of the first seal, risking everything they hold dear to battle for the soul of humanity.

As I flesh out the scope of Pandemonix, I am reminded that I originally wrote this when I was watching Supernatural and playing I think Diablo III and I think Assassin's Creed III, at the time. That dates the concept of Pandemonix earlier than I thought.
In fact, the Knights of St. Cross could be considered to be a brotherhood of sorts. I also have never wrote a protagonist quite like Kayla Winters. Kayla was influenced by the demon hunter class in Diablo III.
It's interesting to go back and remember the reasons I actually wanted to write this. Outside of a certain sexy angel who is the Knight-Commander named Alex.

Ah. I figured out why I shelved Pandemonix. It was because I lost everything except 2 chapters in the data loss I experienced in 2021.
Getting to start over from scratch is fun.

Despite the prophecy's ominous implications, Alexander prioritized duty over personal desires, navigating the complexities of his feelings while remaining steadfast in his commitment to protect Kayla and fulfill his divine mission.

Step Two: Part One: Describe Your Protagonists.
I am surprised that this came before constructing the outline, but I get why. You need to know your protagonists intimately before constructing an outline that will be true to them.
I started with Kayla, as she is the Protagonist. Alex is the Deuteragonist. This will take me some time to complete as I believe in filling out their entire character profiles.

I am going to make some coffee and get started on the Leviathan method for Pandemonix. Today will cover the scope of the book. I am going to complete this method up to level 5 which is the outline.
Then, I am going and attempt it for Timeless Souls, too. Timeless Souls' outline is already finished. I just feel like I have a better understanding of the characters and the book, itself, when I complete this method.
after I get to level 5, I will start the 30 days of worldbuilding. As Timeless Souls and Pandemonix both exist in the same universe, some of the worldbuilding will carry over between the two novels.

Hello there, and Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday!
Feel free to delve into any Worldbuilding you'd care to, but I'm personally always partial to the sort that had to do with killing someone.
Hello. Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday. I hope you are having a wonderful day, and thank you so much for your question.
Pandemonix is the first novel in a series that explores the Apocalypse as told in Revelations in the bible. As such, it heavily features darker themes, such as killing someone.
In this urban fantasy, there is a religious order called the Knights of St. Michael. Since earth was created, this order stood watch over the forces of Lucifer, dispatching any demons that threaten the balance of Earth.
Demons cannot be killed with regular weapons. Only bullets or swords that are blessed by the Order's priests can 'kill' a demon. Before any mission, the knights will attend a mass that will offer them blessings to both their physical body and any weapons they carry.
The demons will burst into flames, but they do not die as humans do. Demons and their counterparts are immortal. When a knight defeats one, they are sent to the Lake of Fire in the lower levels of Hell.
Thank you again for the question.
