Amazing start into the winter for the German ski jumpers

It was an amazing start into this World Cup season for the German ski jumpers in Wisla, Poland. In an exciting competition, Markus Eisenbichler claimed his second World Cup win, Karl Geiger came in second, followed by Austria's Daniel Huber.

"I didn't expect to win, even though I knew I'm in good shape. It was a turbulent competition, but right now I'm just extremely happy that I was able to claim my second World Cup win", explained Markus Eisenbichler, who now also gets to wear the yellow bib of the overall World Cup leader. "It's fantastic, I'm so very happy that I get to wear the yellow bib now. I feel like a little kid at Christmas. This has always been a childhood dream for me. The one, who was wearing the yellow bib, was always such a great guy for me", an overwhelmed Markus Eisenbichler said after his win. For the German team, this was only the second win in Wisla after Andreas Wellinger stood on top of the podium there in 2014.

Karl Geiger completed the German success in second: "It was an exciting and intense competition because the wind conditions were changing a lot. The result is amazing, I'm extremely happy. I don't know if our team ever started a season with a 1-2 finish. It's a confirmation that we trained well in summer", told Geiger.

The longest jump of the day was shown by Austrian Daniel Huber, who came in third: He posted a jump of 138.5 m in the first round. "I'm very happy with how this weekend went for me. It was a difficult competition today because of the conditions and you also needed to have some luck with the wind. I'm glad that I could still show solid jumps and that it went well for me in such changing and difficult wind conditions", said the Austrian, who was also a member of the winning team in Saturday's competition.

The fourth place went to Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway, ahead of Poland's Piotr Zyla. Anze Lanisek was the best Slovene in sixth, Yukiya Sato of Japan was eighth and Canada's Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes provided the surprise of the day with his ninth place.

The World Cup continues next weekend in Ruka (FIN) with two individual competitions. The ski jumpers will already travel there with a charter flight on Wednesday.

Looking at the results from today I'm kinda happy that I didn't watch the competition. Had i watched it live I would have been pretty mad I think 😅 but oh well, just having all the boys back is enough for me right now

"The decision to stay in Finland at this stage is based on health perspective and made together with the team doctor", says Janne Väätäinen, Head Coach
