when i was a minor the internet was still new enough that it was hard to find specific things

and also it was early enough in Web Existence that i was 100% certain id be hacked or get a virus if i clicked the wrong search result

I could only answer with a stupid face and a ‘Huh?’ to Giselle’s expression of absolute delight, smiling proudly as she exultantly lined up the wine glasses.

I mean, what else was I supposed to say? Normally, the conversation here should’ve been something like, ‘The decoration of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is beautiful, isn’t it?’, or ‘The Eiffel Tower’s illumination is so nice, right?’ or ‘The night market is so bustling, isn’t it?’ or… ‘I’m so glad we’re able to spend Christmas together.’

It’s a day where lovers are allowed to exchange such clichéd words…

I had even booked a four-star hotel with a good view of Paris’ illuminations because I thought it would make her ecstatic. Even if I might’ve overdid it a little.

…And yet with all this, she wants a drinking contest?

“Ah, you don’t have to worry, we have more than enough alcohol. Earlier I bought plenty of wine at the liquor store!”

Uh, those weren’t souvenirs…?

“All right, Michel. The one who give up first loses!”

“Then I give up…”

“You can’t say that before you even drink anything!”

Giselle leaned forward with a loud voice. She was quite boisterous, so I put my hands on my ears.

“But… why do you even want a drinking contest to start with?”

There were some thorns in my voice, but I couldn’t help it. If she wanted to have a drinking contest, she could do it another day, and furthermore it wasn’t an appropriate place for this. …Doesn’t she realize that I’ve been working hard for a long time to plan for today? How many date magazines I’ve had to read? And this despite how incredibly embarrassing they were to get a hold of.

“I’m sure you thought a lot about today’s events and looked at a lot of date sites, Michel.”

…She knows. Okay, maybe she even knows too much…

“I mean, it’s so by-the-numbers!”

“Well, sorry about that…!”

In other words, was it boring because it was too by-the-numbers? That was what the drinking contest was for? Then why at the beginning she’d just said ‘Let’s do whatever you likes!’?

“…I kind of feel like you thought too much about all of this.”

Suddenly, Giselle’s previous happy expression made a complete turnaround, and she looked a little sad and troubled. That’s wrong… I didn’t mean to make her look like this.

“No, I didn’t think about it that much…”

Well, a four stars was certainly excessive, but…

“So let’s have a drinking contest!”

“But why a drinking contest?!”

“If we drink, a lot of our true feelings will come out, right?”

Saying this, Giselle showed me a mischievous smile.

I couldn’t reply anything.

At first, I thought that just us reuniting would be enough.

As long as we managed this, then everything would turn out fine.

The hardships that she and I had to overcame were exceedingly unique and difficult to explain to others. A feeling of despair engraved into our souls that goes beyond death. She kept waiting for way too long, and I had to carry innumerable pains.

To us, our reunion was the single, utmost greatest happiness. Our present selves now existed thanks to a miracle that cannot be explained by science in this modern era.

That was why I felt any kind of insignificant disagreement that might be born during our daily life afterwards would be trivial.

…Unfortunately, it seems life just doesn’t have a ‘happily ever after’ all planned in advance.

“Then tell me why you cannot drink!”

Giselle said in a strong voice after finishing her fifth cup, the rim of her glass pointed at me. By the way, I’d only drink one third myself. Alcohol wasn’t my forte.

“I already said it, I don’t want to be unreasonable. If anything, I’d rather know why you think we have to do this.”

“Because things are completely different from how they were. Back then, if I didn’t take care of the sheets they’d get all messy, the rooms had spider webs spread everywhere, you didn’t do nice things and would tell me stuff like how I’m like an obese rat!”

“W-W-Wait a minute! Don’t compare me to how I was a thousand years ago, I’m not the same!”

And you were not the one I called an obese rat!

“But now, your present self is somehow too nice…”

“…”

It’s as if she’s saying that it’s not like me to be nice…

I held back a sigh, and began to speak.

“Our environments now are completely different from those in the past. If you live in different environments, your behavior will change. A person’s common sense will differ… That shouldn’t be something strange.”

True, I used to be a noble who lived in the Middle Ages. The hardships of my previous life are carved into my soul. But even if I recall all of this, it’s only a special case.

I shouldn’t compare the time where I had been forbidden to interact with others, spending my life locked up for a dozen of years, and my modern circumstances. Of course there would differences.

My present self is a working adult, and Giselle’s a student who attend the University of Lyon. Up to that point, we’d been following our own lives.

“But― But even so, you still care about me all the same, right? You came to a lot of dates with me, and even now we’re in such a nice place… We could just spend some leisure time together in that room. So let’s have fun―”

“…If you’re disappointed, just say so.”

“I’m not disappointed! It’s not like that, just… Just like before, I don’t have complaints about living a simple life, no matter what might happen, I’m― well… as long as we’re together, I’m happy.”

Just when I thought she was getting worked up, she suddenly became softer again. Her rich expressions has not changed from the ones of the past. Even if our environments changes and some parts are different, certainly our core stay the same. It should be the case for me too. …Or am I the only one who changed and became like a different person? Is that why she decided to use the influence of alcohol and this setup for this conversation?

“…I just want to make you happy.”

“As long as things are normal, I’m happy enough.”

“Well, things are normal, aren’t they?”

“That’s not how it seems to me.”

“…Why?”

“It looks like there’s a distance between us.”

“There’s no distance.”

“…Yes, there is.”

“No, there isn’t!”

At that moment, I shouted. By the time I realized I’d messed up, it was too late. Before I could explain I wasn’t angry, her big jade eyes shined with an uneasy color.

Then, she whispered in a voice as feeble as a mosquito’s buzzing.

“Then, why have we never done anything more than a kiss?”

…I felt like I was wrung out like cotton. After a feeling of despondency washing over me, what followed was irritation. Towards myself, and then, towards her, for putting it so bluntly despite the fact she should know.

My bitten lip trembled slightly.

“…Let’s stop talking about this. I’m sorry for shouting, I’ll go cool off my head.”

I stood up and left the room as if I was running away.

Giselle’s voice calling out to me with a ‘Wait!’ and trying to grab me wasn’t enough to stop my drive.

…What am I doing on a Christmas day?

I was standing on the hotel’s stairs with my head hanging down, staring at the illuminations surrounding me in the far distance. Unsurprisingly, December’s breeze cooled down my body in the blink of an eye, as I wasn’t wearing a coat.

I felt like spitting a curse on the couples who came and went on the street, even though I had been like them just now. Every last one of them looked like they didn’t have any problem, as if saying that the world was nothing but full of kindness.

…It was pretty difficult to make a happy ending last for a long time. I sighed, making the white mist comes out in many puffs.

“Seriously, what a pathetic guy.”

At that moment, a young girl’s words suddenly reached my ears.

That voice, that way of speaking, that feeling―

―I’d never forget it.

“I honestly cannot bear such an appalling sight. Oh, I actually get it. The reason why you try as hard as you can to be a good man is just because you have a guilty conscience, isn’t it? You saying you want her to be happy is just to save face.”

“…!”

“Foolish man.”

A girl with braids disappeared in the waves of people passing through. I ran down the stairs and skipped over several steps at once, chasing her back. Even when I called her name, she didn’t turn around. Even when I yelled at her to wait, she didn’t stop. The other people I bumped into showered me with insulting shouts, but I couldn’t even say a single rude word back at them. Instead, I called her name once more.

But even so, she still didn’t turn―

Here. At last, I saw her back.

I grabbed her arm. And finally, the braided girl turned around―

“Ah… Eh…?”

That stupid, confused voice was mine. The girl with the braids looked puzzled… or rather, afraid.

“No, sorry, I… mistook you for someone else.”

That person wasn’t ‘her.’

I came back to the hotel with my head hanging down. The voice I heard earlier might have been an auditory hallucination. It’s hard to swallow, but that possibility is very likely.

(Maybe I’m tired…)

Still, for me to hear such harsh words in an hallucination… Surprisingly, I wondered if I had been longing for her sharp tongue. Even though I didn’t think I had that kind of tastes.

“…?”

As I was in the middle of climbing the stairs and rubbing my arms in the cold, I found a single black cat. Exactly at the spot I’d been sitting earlier.

When I got close, the black cat didn’t move in the slightest and just threw a brief glance at me. It seemed extremely used to humans. Was it someone’s pet?

“If you stay here, you’ll catch a cold.”

As it didn’t seem to want to get away, I tried to call and reach out my hand to it. The cat rubbed its head against my palm, and slowly swung its long tail. …I didn’t think a stray cat I met outside could get this affectionate. As a test, I tried to stroke it, and heard a faint guttural purr.

(Perhaps this is Uglyspekckles’s reincarnation…)

I instantly grew fond of it the moment this thought crossed my mind. Let’s bring it back and propose to Giselle to keep it―

(Aah, Giselle… That’s right…)

I left her behind. I have to pull myself together and go back. However, I’m still worrying about what kind of face I should make, what kind of words I should say. Even though I know that the more time I spent putting it off, the worse the situation will become, and the more it will makes her anxious.

As I kept wondering in circle about this kind of things, the cat roughly licked the back of my hand, and― “Ow!” ―bit it.

It snorted, nimbly climbed the stairs, and disappeared from my field of vision, even with deep bite marks remaining on the back of my hand. When I saw them, I let out a dull laugh. Somehow, I felt like I was being scolded for how pitiful I was.

“…Let’s go back.”

If even a cat felt the need to give me a nudge, I had no choice but to be strong.

After all, in the end there is no doubt about the fact that we still both cherish each other.

“Michel!”

Her face was in front of my eyes the moment I opened the door. Even now, she had that expression as if she was about to cry, and her flushed face was certainly not just a result of the alcohol.

She was wearing a coat. I’m sure she must’ve been about to look for me.

“Um, I’m sorr― I― I didn’t mean that, just―”

To her surprise, instead of telling her that I knew what she meant now, I pulled her body towards me, wrapped my arms around her back and embraced her tightly.

I heard her gasp next to my ear.

“…I’m sorry. Even though I thought I could do everything right from now on, I’m still dragging others down like that. But, Giselle, my desire to live together with you is not a lie. So, I want time. I want you to give me the time to change, little by little…”

In the course of everyday life, isn’t having a disagreement something trivial? Doesn’t that depends on us? If we think of it as just something trivial, we’ll certainly be able to make past it. No matter what it is. But this, however pathetic it is, will still need time. That’s why, Giselle―

“You don’t have to worry, I want us to be together.”

In my neck, Giselle kept mumbling in a small voice mingled things like ‘Um’ or ‘sorry.’ …Even though she shouldn’t be the one apologizing.

However, when she raised her face, her usual smile was back in place. I felt relieved from the bottom of my heart. I wanted to avoid losing that smile more than anything in the world, no matter what.

“…Then, shall we go back to our room? Geez, you idiot, you’ll get cold if you get out dressed so lightly… Ah.”

“…?”

“A cat.”

Turning around, the black cat from earlier was staring this way. Since when did it come here? It suddenly narrowed its golden eyes, turned to the other side and snorted, walking away into the hallway.

“Aha, it kind of looks like ‘her.’”

“‘Her,’ huh…”

While I stared intently at the cat’s retreating figure, I froze.

There’s no way.

…There’s no way, right?

Afterword

This story is a contribution to the Doujin Heaven Special of the periodical game magazine Cool-B. I was extremely worried about writing on this subject matter, but given this magazine’s target audience are women and that it’s based on the editor’s idea, I tried to find a way that’d be able to satisfy everyone. It’s a secret, but at first I was thinking about making a story where people die, nasty things keeps happening and no one can be saved. Hehehe.

When I showed the manuscript to Moyataro, he said ‘Even you can write something like that, huh…’, but that’s not surprising.

I myself was shocked by my own writing.

I hope that story has a gentle atmosphere.

So you’re done with The Untamed and want more, what now?

Reposting this since I’ve updated it with new info/links. Again, I entered the fandom via The Untamed so I’m by no means a MDZS expert, just tried my best gathering all the resources I can which I hope will help some new Untamed/MDZS fan out there. If you spot any errors, don’t yell at me, just let me know and I’ll correct it as best I can, especially for any future reposts.

READ THE NOVEL

Read the original web novel the show was based on: The Untamed (aka “CQL” or “Chen Qing Ling”) was adapted from the BL web novel, Mo Dao Zu Shi (aka ”MDZS” or Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation) by author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (”MXTX”). Yes the novel came first, CQL is only an adaptation. In the novel, you get the uncensored romance of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, where they are canonically married and living happily ever after. The novel goes full into R18 territory so please tread carefully.

All four volumes of the novel can be purchased from the original publishing site, JJWXC. The site’s in chinese but here’s a tutorial on how to navigate it and purchase the books:  JJWXC Tutorial Link.

WATCH THE ANIME (aka “Donghua” in Chinese)

Watch the anime based on the novel: The donghua was released before The Untamed. Two seasons are already available (23 eps total) with a third season in production and a special chibi version of the donghua in production as well. The Eng-subbed donghua can be seen using the WeTV app or on Youtube:  YT MDZS Donghua Playlist

Grant it, the donghua is even more censored than The Untamed, but the donghua team still managed to sneak in some easter eggs (f.e. WangXian naked bathing scene in the cold springs from the novel...in The Untamed they were fully clothed) and more importantly, the animation is just gorgeous so it’s absolutely worth a watch despite the censorship. 

READ THE MANGA (aka “Manhua” in Chinese)

Read the manhua which is ongoing and is being officially translated by WeComics, available on their app for free. Search under the name “Mo Dao Zu Shi”.

Unfortunately, the official translations are more than 20 chaps behind the raws and there have been complaints about the quality of the translations in the past, but I believe they’re starting to improve so since they’re official, it’s always better to support the official source.

The raw untranslated manhua can be found on the Kuaikanmanhua app. Other than being in Chinese, some of the chapters (f.e. the most recent ones) are behind a paywall, but here’s a tutorial on how to purchase the chapters, provided by @chiharuzushi on Twitter:  Kuaikanmanhua Tutorial

The chapters are quite cheap...I purchase 1000 KK coins for 10 rmb ($0.14) and each chapter is only 68 KK coins so even if we end up with 500 chapters it’ll still be...er...quite cheap overall (don’t make me do the actual math). The most painful part is figuring out how to set up the Kuaikanmanhua account, but otherwise, if you can read Chinese or know enough of the story by now that you don’t really need to read the words, the manhua is definitely worth reading because it’s less censored than The Untamed and the donghua. 

LISTEN TO THE AUDIO DRAMA

Listen to the audio drama, which is at this point the most faithful and LEAST censored adaptation of the novel we will probably ever get! Wei Ying’s voice actor in The Untamed is the voice actor for his audio drama counterpart. (Yes, almost everyone in The Untamed is dubbed by a voice actor, EXCEPT for Nie Huaisang. Ji Li, the actor for NHS, was the only one who used his own voice. Lan Zhan in The Untamed shares the same voice actor as his character in the donghua). 

Each episode art of the audio drama is AMAZING. Google Translate works well on the site, you’d want to see the listeners’ comments cuz they’re just adorable and hilarious.

The audio drama was supervised by MXTX-laoshi, the author of the novel, so a lot of love and care went into the production, and it shows. Ngl, it was tough at first navigating all that, Google translate helped, but once I figured it out, it was all so worth it because in addition to the MDZS, the site houses a lot of other wonderful audio dramas. There are also MDZS fan songs on the site that are near professional quality and oh so good.

Show them some love too for translating the episodes, but please if you can, purchase the episodes so you can support the audio drama team which have done an amazing job.

It’s in Japanese but just follow the pictures. I’m hoping that the Japanese audio drama will end up being the MOST uncensored version of MDZS since Japanese BL dramas are not afraid (and allowed) to go all the way to R18. XD

MORE THE UNTAMED CONTENT

Lastly, if you’re just thirsting for more Untamed content, there are two spin-off movies you can watch. The first one, The Living Dead, is kind of centered on Wen Ning and Sizhui post-CQL. 

The second one, Fatal Journey, is focused on the Nie brothers, Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang, with a cameo by Jin Guangyao. It takes place prior to Wei Ying’s return from the dead.

Of the two movies, I definitely recommend Fatal Journey more. Both movies are available on the iQiyi app, which offers a one month free trial for first members. Each month afterwards for VIP is $6.99.

You can also go on the WeTV app for even more Untamed extras: WeTV put out a special edition cut of the show which tightened up the story AND features the original ending that was intended before censorship forced the production team to come up with the more ambiguous one we saw in its original run. It was a simple matter of rearranging certain scenes and getting rid of the separation part, but imho it really made all the difference to the ending.

There’s a ton of behind-the-scene cuteness that you can watch and also concerts with the cast in Thailand and Nanjing. VIP subscription to the WeTV app is $5.99/month and the Nanjing concert is for rent for 3 months at about the same price.  

The show also put out two official soundtracks, one for the vocals and one for the score. Both are available on Amazon and iTunes. Readying his stance, Howe gave a small “come at me” sign with his right hand. Immediately he dodged a sharp kick to his head. Glad those weeks of training with Clinton paid off. The Horseman gave a jab, and Howe blocked it with his hands. A sharp pain arose, and he quickly pulled back. Fuck! He’s wearing a brass knuckle! Spikes shone on the gold brass knuckle that was now red with his blood. Shaking it off, Howe quickly dodged another attack. “COME ON KICK HIS HEAD OFF!!” “BREAK HIS LEGS!!” “PULL HIS BONES OUT!!” the crowd was yelling. Oh boy, this gonna be a long one. William attempted a punch, but the man swiftly dodged the attack. His black leather vest glistened under the spotlights. Blood was now dripping from the open holes in Howe’s right hand. He secretly gestured towards his friends while avoiding another kick to the head. Gage turned to the others. “Might as well make this quick.” He leaped over the railings. The announcer yelled, “THIS IS GETTING MORE INTERESTING BY THE MINUTE!!” Gage whistled towards the Horseman. “HEY, YOU!! OVER HERE!!”

Realizing he was outnumbered, the “White” Horseman beckoned for two of his teammates to help. One wearing a black bandana with a neon red skull appeared and the other also wore a black bandana with a neon green skull. The “Red” Horseman had a thin frame, while the “Green” Horseman was a burly figure. All wore the same outfit as their leader. The “Red” Horseman proceeded to attack Gage. Gage yelped and quickly ran. Howe, who was watching Gage avoid the attacks, ran over to the “Green” Horseman, and gave a sharp knee to the head. His attack, however, was blocked as his opponent grabbed his kneecaps and threw him across the arena. William was knocked into Gage, and the two men hit the ground. Stunned, Howe looked up to see the “White” Horseman kneeling over him. Pulling out his phone, he said “Listen. We don’t have to fight. I’m just here to see my brother Richard. I just want him to meet me at The Earl’s Fortune tonight. There is something urgent I need to speak to him about. Please.” I don’t know why I’m pleading with this man. He might not even be Richard.

Thankfully, the “White” Horseman got up and walked away from Howe. Looking over, the fighter saw Gage slowly getting up while rubbing his head. By this time, the crowd was growing restless over the event. He watched the Horseman speaking to his other crew members in low whispers. After some time, the three Horsemen left the arena with the “Red” Horseman giving a finger towards Howe and Gage. As they disappeared backstage, the crowd groaned in displeasure. The announcer spoke out. “WELL, THAT WAS CERTAINLY A TURN OF EVENTS! WE LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN AND HOPEFULLY SEE YOU HERE NEXT TIME!!” The spotlights shut off and the main arena lights turned on. As the crowd dispersed, André and the others jumped in to help their friends up. “Glad you almost got yourself killed today,” Burgoyne joked as he pulled Gage up. “Yeah well…it’s something…” the recruit moaned. Clinton noticed the blood dripping from Howe’s right hand. “Let’s head back to the Safehouse. We should get that checked out.

DedSec left the arena and by the time they arrived the clock on the Big Ben chimed 6:00 PM. Entering the pub, the crew walked past the lounge and bar where Clinton spotted a familiar face chatting with Hanger. He turned to the others. “You guys go on ahead-“ “CORNWALLIS! HOLY CRAP WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!” André exclaimed. Cornwallis turned around and saw DedSec looking at him. “I’m just here to relax. Oh yeah, the nice job nearly getting your head kicked off today. You guys were also at the event, yes? Saw y’all standing in the front row,” he said, smirking. Clinton shook his head while Howe looked away feeling his face turning red. Gage and Burgoyne ushered their friend into the Safehouse while André and Clinton stood by the bar. Looking at this watch, Cornwallis chugged his vodka before getting up. “Well, it was nice seeing you here. Gotta run.” “Wait! Don’t you want to join DedSec?” André asked. Cornwallis gave him a weird look. “Why would I want to join a terrorist organization?” “André come on. He’s not going to budge,” Clinton muttered, tugging at his friend’s sleeves. André did not budge. “We’re not a terrorist organization! Just come to the Safehouse and we’ll show you!” “Maybe. Listen, I’ve got stuff to do, and I don’t want to get put on Albion’s hitlist or something, so unless you can prove to me that I can trust your organization I’ll have to decline.”

Cornwallis turned to leave the pub. André groaned in frustration before following Clinton. Reaching the main room, André propped down on his seat. Bagley spoke up. “I’ve managed to clear all the junk data from the laptop. It appears that this is more complicated than we thought. It’s a tangled web of connections all leading to Germain. We’ll need to take care of the others first.” “Great. Can we leave that aside now? I’ve just met a friend of mine upstairs and he won’t join my crew.” “A pity. Just as pitiful as the fight today. Could’ve seen some action occurring.” “Yeah, well, I don’t want my head to roll Bagley,” Howe snapped as he stormed out from the back room. Gage and Burgoyne followed quietly behind him. Raising his bandaged right hand, Howe continued. “I can wear this as a badge of pride, but let it be a reminder I will NOT be setting foot near that place again!” “You’re just bitter you didn’t win,” snickered Gage.

Howe collapsed onto the sofa and stared into the distance. Clinton, who was leaning against Bagley’s table, got up and followed Gage and Burgoyne upstairs to the pub. Only André and Howe were left in the Safehouse. Playing with a Rubik’s cube, André looked at his friend. “Come on now. It was once in a lifetime opportunity. You took it well.” “Yeah, well hopefully that person can pass on my message to Richard, and he can meet me at the pub.” “Oh? You extended an invite? How brave of you. Hopefully, he gets it.” “We shall see,” William sighed as he turned over and fell asleep.

Hours passed until Howe felt himself being jolted by André. “I think he’s outside the pub waiting for you,” the hacker whispered. Howe checked his phone. It was 9:00 PM. Stretching, the fighter got off the couch and shook his right hand. “What makes you think it’s him?” he asked. André held up William’s phone. A message was on the screen. “‘Outside. Where are you?’” it read. “Hmph. Ok. See you in a bit,” Howe said quietly as he left the Safehouse. Walking into the pub, he saw Hanger comforting a now drunk Burgoyne at the bar while Gage and Clinton talked and laughed. Patrons sat at the lounge while BBC News aired on TV. Walking out, Howe looked around before spotting a hooded figure pacing back and forth next to a grey sport motorcycle. Suspicious, Howe approached him. The figure turned around. The facial look and structure were unmistakable.

Wearing a spiked long leather vest zipped up, black jeans, and grey spiked combat boots, Richard took off his hood. “Richard…Oh my God, I’m so glad to- “ “Just cut your bullshit and tell me what you want,” his brother snapped. He’s still not over that argument. “Listen, I checked the records from the Metropolitan Police Department and her name isn’t listed.” “And?” “I also went to the hospital near the explosion site-“ “Wait, Royal London Hospital? You were there too?” Richard stopped and stared at his brother. So it was him! “It was you… You left that note on the car…” William’s head began to feel faint. Tapping his heel against the stone road, Lord Howe smirked. “So, you knew. I did clear out all the data at every hospital. No names were found. I guess you were right. Caroline isn’t dead.” “You finally believe me? Does that mean you’re speaking to me again?” “Perhaps. I did find a trace of something from the explosion site. I do need someone to help me clean the cache first.” “I know someone who can,” William said with a smile.

Leading his brother into the pub, Howe punched the code to the Safehouse. “I’m so glad you’re here. I missed you so much!” William gently sobbed. “Then why didn’t you let me knock you out?” Lord Howe asked snarkily. Always with that attitude. Leading him into the main room, Howe pointed to a holographic speaker on the table. “This is Bagley. He’s our main coordinator of DedSec. And this…” he motioned towards André “…is John André, our leader of DedSec.” André turned around. “Oh my…Lord Howe! A pleasant surprise!” the hacker got up from his chair to shake hands with the MMA brawler. “I heard you’re a fan of DeFaLT! I am too!” “Cool. Anyways, I have this,” Lord Howe pulled out his phone. “I need someone to decrypt data I hacked from the explosion site. Heard you could do it.” “Yes sir! Please allow me!” Lord Howe handed André his phone and the hacker began processing the information.

Bagley spoke up. “I find it genuinely surprising there was more data recovered from that site. Where exactly did you locate this?” “In the security building next to the stadium,” Lord Howe responded. “I see. Perhaps there might be a correlation between the building and that stadium.” André looked at his laptop. “I’m not picking up anything unusual so far, but we’ll have to keep an eye on it. To be honest, I doubt there is anything too scary on it. Could be someone’s search history leaked.” “Quite possibly. We’ll have to keep checking on it once it finishes processing. In the meantime, why don’t y’all head upstairs and relax?” “That is nice of you, Bagley. Alright, meet you two upstairs!” André quipped happily as he grabbed his soccer ball and ran out.

William looked over to his brother. “Well, it’s nice to see you again.” Lord Howe said nothing as he looked at the laptop before leaving. Why can’t he just get over it? The fighter followed him upstairs to the pub where André stood in front of the TV along with Clinton and Gage. Burgoyne has his head on the counter, completely passed out. The brothers stood next to Clinton as they watched Lord Germain hold a press conference. “Rest assured,” he said, “Britain will be more secured as ever as today I am announcing a new intelligence agency that will work alongside Zero Day.” He unveiled a covered board behind him and on it was a sigil with a lion under a checkered shield spelled ‘SIRS’. It was encased by a triangle entangled with a circle and the words ‘Signals. Intelligence. Response.’ All in black in red color scheme, the SIRS logo looked grandiose. Continuing with his speech, Lord Germain proclaimed, “Today will be the day Britain will blanket itself under the safety and security of SIRS. Every man, woman, and child will no longer feel threatened by the hands of terrorists…” he proceeded to incriminate DedSec until one person in the audience yelled, “YOU’RE THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR LETTING THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!” Everyone grunted in agreement.

Gritting his teeth, André shoved past everyone and stormed out of the pub. In the lounge, patrons shook their heads while others growled in anger over the new measures Lord Germain was placing. “Motherfucker,” Gage hissed under his breath before walking away with Clinton. William looked at his brother. “Feeling a bit peckish? I know a good Japanese restaurant here in Central London.” “I guess,” Lord Howe muttered. The fighter smiled. Might start chipping away that ice. The two left the pub only to find two Albion guards standing around the silver motorcycle. “Greetings gentlemen. Is there a problem?” Lord Howe asked cheerfully, masking his annoyance. “Yes. Your license is out of date. You’ll need to re-register with DVLA, or your vehicle might be impounded.” Suspicious, William pulled out his phone and scanned his brother’s vehicle. He just got a new license two days ago.

Richard cocked his head. “Perhaps you’re mistaken. That vehicle was registered two days ago.” “It says on our records it’s expired,” the guard snapped. Sensing the tension, William quietly slid his bag off his shoulder as his brother snorted. “If I were to guess, the two of you must be getting nothing out of that bloody arse on TV otherwise you wouldn’t be out here looking for trouble.” “You dare insult the Minister of Security and Safety?!” “Yeah, I just did what are YOU going to do about it?” Lord Howe sneered, getting into the guard’s face. “Why you-“ Before the Albion guard could act, the brawler grabbed him by the gun and swung him over his shoulder. “HEY!” his partner exclaimed as he raised his gun. William immediately smacked his face with his crowbar before using the sharp edge to stab the guard in the throat. People nearby stopped and watched. “Billy, get this guy up!” Lord Howe ordered, pointing to his victim on the ground.

Did he just call me ‘Billy’? Is he finally letting me in? Excited, William hoisted the guard up by pinning both his arms behind his back. Stretching his legs, Lord Howe smirked at his victim. “Sayonara, motherfucker!” he jeered and swung his right leg. Tuesday, 12th February

It was another really interesting day again today.

We got pretty hot and bothered during the morning in almost 40 degree heat. We put our hose-broom over the van and car and rediscovered that they were not both red underneath after all.  The hose connects to an extendable broom or mop that allows us to do a rough and ready wash up to about 3 metres or so high.  It is not a particularly easy thing to use - my shoulder is a bit sore tonight - but at least it makes it easy to apply some water and a soft brush to most surfaces and we removed several kilos of mud from both vehicles.  Heather washed all the windows while I did the sweeping and mopping and both car and van looked a lot better for the attention.  Regrettably, we didn’t!!

We were pretty whacked, but after we caught our respective breaths, we decided to cool off in the pool.  I think I said how much we like this park and we thoroughly enjoyed lolling about in one of the two pools – I even dog-paddled a couple of laps and pretended I was exercising.

We had a few other jobs to do, one of which was to fit some Solarscreens we bought well over a year ago.  They are supposed to attach to the windows with suction caps and reflect the heat and insulate the car a bit.  We have managed to get the side ones to stay put, but the one for the tailgate has defeated us.  I have been back to the manufacturer a few times for suggestions, but nothing works.  Suction caps, Velcro, silver tape, duct tape.......  The heat seems to be the problem, but no matter how we try to attach it, it falls off within a few minutes.  The product itself seems to be quite good - it is just not possible to fit it to get any of the benefits it offers.  I tried several more clever ideas today but eventually gave it up as an impossible task.

Back home, I sat outside to log my bird survey and became fascinated by some of the local birds here.  Seven red-winged parrots settled very near to me and their colours are astounding: a brilliant light green with a vivid red splash on their wings - at least the males.  Really striking and the brightness of their colours is unavoidably eye-catching.

The subspecies of ring-necked parrots here are also quite beautiful.  They are much more muted, but just as absorbing to watch, especially when they also approach quite close looking for food and water.

My favourites though (for this week anyway) are probably the yellow-throated minors.  They are so petite, elegant and graceful, but also rather cheeky.  We were inside the van having lunch a few days ago and several were pecking around just outside the door when one hopped up on the step, then into the van and walked all around under the table and over our feet before deciding that we had nothing it wanted and it returned to its friends outside.

Coronavirus, Autism and Lungs

You'll probably know that March 2020 was a big month for the UK and a lot has changed in a very short amount of time. I'd say in the space of about two weeks it went from, people walking happily streets, going to gatherings and getting whatever food they wanted from their local shop to, no one being allowed to leave their homes, no gatherings whatsoever, and queuing up to go into stores then struggling to find essential items because all or most of them will be gone. Coronavirus, COVID-19 has hit the country hard.

I've had to work from home for the foreseeable future, Hannah is at home with as well no longer working as a teaching assistant and we only ever leave the house to go on walks or buy food when we can find it. It's unusual and like many others, we're looking to a time when this will be over but we don't know when it will be. All church meetings are happening on Zoom (which is a video conferencing site that has taken the world by storm since the virus). All gyms are closed so I'm using an app called Fiit to exercise form the house, and we tend to spend a lot of time talking, praying, and watching Netflix when we're not working on personal projects. Hannah has taken to sewing and I'm, actually doing more work at home since I'm talking to fewer people and spending less time for lunch I guess? Anyway, the world is very different now than it was in early March. I won't go into detail about everything since I'm sure a quick Google search will reveal all the details but it's weird and scary. People are wearing masks now. I mean, I only saw that sort of stuff in Japan and I thought it was odd but now most people here are doing it. Nevertheless, we believe in a God who knows the future, who knows when this pandemic will end and we have put our faith in Him so whatever happens, He's in control.

Some good news in this weirdness our first ever game jam game, Maisey and Kevin(https://hellolightbulb.itch.io/maisy-and-kevin), was one of the three shortlisted games which is awesome news for us. Not only does it give our little game studio Hello Lightbulb a tiny bit of exposure but it also affirms the fact that we're good at making games, and Hannah is a great animator. I honestly think we wouldn't have got shortlisted if it wasn't for her great design abilities. Not to put my coding skills down, yes the game ran well on web but one of the judges who was playing it on a live stream did find the only bug in the game which is annoying but yay for us. We plan to do more game jams in the future (especially with this coronavirus lockdown) so watch this space. 

I also managed to finish the first draft of my book which is a huge weight off my shoulders. I've sent the first 5 chapters to a literary agent and have an excel spreadsheet with a few others I plan to contact but it'll take some time. A lot less time than proofreading a small novel, so I have more time to dedicate to other things which is great.

Annnnnnnd now back to the bad news, well, very unexpected and not amazing news. We found out our child (who is a girl by the way), has a complication with her lungs. There is a large mass of lung tissue under one of her lungs which is putting pressure on her heart. We saw it in a scan and it didn't look good. Hannah and I were both incredibly shocked at the news and very upset, this could be really bad. An appointment was scheduled at one of the top foetal research facilities to see what can be done but unfortunately, we got told to go home upon entering the building, Hannah had a cough. And amidst this coronavirus fear it meant she had to quarantine herself for 14 days. 14 days is a long time to delay potentially life-saving treatment.

We're hoping it's not too late and something can and will be done before (or soon after) our daughter is born. With the situation getting worse in London we're not even sure if the appointment will still go ahead since there are a lot of other health-related appointments that have been cancelled (cancer treatments, whooping cough vaccinations, even all our NCT meetings). 

There are a lot of people praying for us right now, families, friends, our church, and we really appreciate that. We believe in a good God who cares for us and we are believing in him through this tough time.
