Could you explain your position on Shallura? Since Allura was established as a teenager when she started dating Lance and Shiro was very clearly an adult. I can understand the bi shiro headcannon but the shallura thing worries me
i am going to remind yall that i have been in this fandom since 2016. and in the early seasons, allura was not established as a teenager. in fact she was coded as older, as closer to shiro's age -- there was a specific divide between her and the younger paladins that she did not have with shiro. they made her younger (both explicitly and in mannerisms) as the show went on. and i do not give a fuck about voltron like...post s4 and i didn't even watch s7-8. so like. especially with older fics, im going to enjoy shallura.
#also this is less relevant and i was going to put it in the main post but i cant find the words for it#but i found your last sentence kind of condescending. “the shallura thing worries me” as if i am your little project and things arent going#to plan. as if you are the Knower Of All Things and i am straying from my path lol. twas odd#and this is a controversial thing to say i know it but like#we take fandom way too seriously. if someone decides in fic to make two characters the same age to ship them or whatever. do we really need#to get the torches and pitchforks. like i can understand discomfort when people ship like shiro and pidge or something but. also. i feel#like you can just block and move on?? like i dont ship sheith bc they are brothers. to me. but also i dont think sheithers should be#harassed or any dumb shit like that. i think its so so whatever like theyre Lines man theyre moving lines#at the same time i understand that peoples headcanons can be reflective of their worldviews (like when racism/transphobia/sexism shine#through someone's headcanons/characterization) but how much scrutiny is too much? when do we get to remember that fandom is a place to#work with the FICTIONAL? where you can change details without consequence? i saw a fic where keith was the older sibling and shiro was the#younger once. it was a good fic. how come we can play with ages but only when the Fandom Council approves?#i guess this is a really long and clumsy way to say like. you do not own the fandom nor do you get to dictate my work. and while there#is always room for necessary criticism please also think critically before you post your criticism#anyways#rant#ask

AU Shrignold’s (Belavia) story is complicated but at its core it’s really about being groomed under the guise of “purity”. Imagine growing up in an environment where you’re expected to be modest and spotless, where any hint of exploring your identity or emotions outside that narrow frame is considered dirty or wrong. You’re constantly dressed up, always had to look sweet, polished, desirable not for your own sake but to stay pleasing in the eyes of those who “rescued” you when everyone else turned away.
They were NEVER given the space to grow into themself. From the start they were shaped into an offering (wrapped in ribbons, taught to be soft, cute, and still.) In the eyes of those who took them in, innocence wasn’t protection but it was presentation. Whether beneath stained glass or studio lights, they were made to smile, to obey, to embody a version of girlhood that demanded silence and sacrifice. They were never asked what they wanted but only trained to be wanted. And in those carefully curated settings they learned early what it meant to be looked at, handled, and praised for how well they endured it........
Tumblr media
Over time that confusion turned sour. It felt easier to mock what they secretly related to than face it. So they clung to the words they were taught (shaming anything that strayed from the norm, including themself). They ALWAYS seemed confident in their beliefs but underneath it was just fear... fear of being found out, fear of becoming the very thing they'd been punished for even resembling

Princess tutu did what h*rry p*tter fucking wished it could do like how is it fakir’s nameless faceless parents are somehow infinitely more compelling to me than hp’s tragic fridged parents who the story never shut up about?? Like their love saved him and now he’s the Special Boy whatever fuck off, now my boy fakir he doesn’t get special magic protection actually he’s destined to die young AND THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR HIM ANYWAYS. I’m so upset over these people who were mentioned like four times ever and they don’t even have FACES. Imagine being loved so so much that you’re able to take fate into your own hands and reverse your inevitable tragedy. But like. With good writing

i feel like perhaps my own sense of morality and personhood gets a lil lost in translation when i do analysis type shit so just some things to keep in mind when reading anything from me
i dont really have an internal sense of morality, simply consequences and principles
this means i dont really care for whats "good", simply for whats logical which can sometimes be confused for/muddled with whats good cause to me whats logical is whatever causes the least problems in the long run
this also means that things like hypocricy, selfishness, deceit, etc are value neutral to me and are only really problems when they actually Cause problems so when i say someone has a trait thats commonly seen as something negative i dont necessarily see it as such
related to the above, i believe most personality traits are value neutral including things commonly seen as "good" and that on their own they dont mean much of anything, their meanings come from how the actual person uses them
its also why i dont really take much note of "negative" values until they pass a certain threshold or if im specifically talking about those traits
i react a lot more than i actually feel cause if i align with what i actually feel then yall are literally getting nothing from me ever lol
im a Lot more paranoid and emotionally & interpersonally disconnected than i let on which definitely colors how i do analysis
this especially applies to psychology things cause things related to it can be a genuine danger for me (both socially and my own psyche) so im a lot more hyperreactive of warning signs regarding that (whether perceived or true)
uhh i dont think it actually Changes what i say but it might change how yall read my posts, unless ig youre someone who already assumed i dont actually care that much lol

Besties even setting aside all takes on the fictional setting, which you re also wrong about, can we maybe stop and think that maybe there's something wrong with saying "transphobia doesn't exist in TGCF" in any context. Are we that incapable of identifying basic transmisogyny. I mean yes apparently given how people treat SQX but

re:tags, stone top Tarquin... you are so big brained for this
im so serious about stone top tarquin. especially in the context of like, tevinter imperium homophobia-misogyny as its presented in inquisition. in my beautiful roman empire coded tevinter mind palace even if tarquin had penetrative sex as a man he would always also be seen as a Lesser Man for it. tarquin is very aware of the social expectations of being a man and a soporati and also! dysphoria! and i think its fun for him to turn that on its head a little. because no one who saw him and ashur together would EVER assume ashur is trying to be the victor in a power struggle or something. he's too busy whimpering and probably praying. what was i talking about

i think part of what made writing strange currencies so fun was that in general i think what is compelling about etho-and-bdubs as a shifting in-game dynamic is partially the way that the setting of Making Entertainment and In Gameness make the (perceived) need to fill specific roles/archetypes compulsory. this is a factual statement about the conditions of working as a mcyter for your job but also an interesting pressure to translate inside of fiction into diegetic pressures. there are in fact platonic explanations for this outside of it and it's called having an emotional support coworker (as any lesbian restaurant worker with a pet grillman, for example, might well know). the irl people playing these roles have expansive lives outside of them but when you take the performance on its own terms - the text of the video and the gameplay (two diff things!) - as being full stories and worlds, what you have is a clear patterns shared by many experiences of queer repression. the need to be what people expect you to be, jealousy or admiration of others who fill roles you think you can't, the play on history and secret coded messaging to express sincerity while being scrutinized which produces a specific joy at being understood in ways large swathes of the population cannot because you share this secret thing... what better way to explore that than by keeping the pressure of cisnormative expectations against homosexual desire on? or by taking those longings for something outside the cisnormative expectation of the roles they play and . and i'm not saying there shouldn't be transmasc interpretations of them i just think that they should have a totally different set of neuroses and behaviors to be similarly compelling. full on rpf is similarly boring bc it removes the key tension i give a fuck about; i think they should be compacted into a singular hyperdense cube for my enjoyment, which is the only metric that matters.
