So, since you want to compare their playoff runs, let's do that, but with actual facts:

We will disregard the years before their first playoffs runs. MJ was in college, LeBron came straight out of high school and missed the playoffs.

Both MJ and LeBron were 21 when they first made the playoffs. 

1st Playoff Run

In MJ's first playoff series he lost in the first round to the Bucks (who were knocked out in the 2nd round).

In Lebron’s first trip to the Playoffs, he lost in the second round to the Detroit Piston (who had made the Finals the past 2 seasons, winning 1 ring) in 7 games. Detroit then lost in the EC Finals to the eventual champs Miami Heat.

Win - Lebron made the 2nd round and only lost in 7 to a prime Detroit team. 

2nd Playoff Run 

In MJ's second playoff run the Bulls only just made the playoffs only winning 30 games that season. That was the season MJ broke his foot and came back late. They were swept in the first round by the eventual Champs the Celtics (3-time champs overall)

In Lebron’s second trip to the playoffs, he dragged his team of no-ones to the second seed in the easter conference, winning 50 games, and lost in the FINALS to the 5-time champs Spurs, after beating the Wizards, Nets and Pistons on the way... 

Win - Lebron, he made the Finals.

3rd Playoff Run

In MJ's third playoff run he was again swept by the eventual champs the Celtics in the first round. The Bulls won 40 games. 

Meanwhile, LeBron, behind 45 wins, lost in the second round, also to the eventual Champs the Celtics.

Win - Pretty Even - both didn’t make it far but lost to the eventual Champs

4th Playoff Run

Bulls Draft draft Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. MJ wins his 1st MVP, DPOY, 50 games, loses in the 2nd round to the Bad Boys Detroit Piston (who would go on to lose the Finals to Magic and the Lakers).

LeBron wins his first MVP, also came 2nd in DPOY (behind Dwight Howard who would win the next 3 DPOYs), 45 wins. Lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to Dwight and Orlando.

Win - Pretty Even - Both win MVP, MJ gets DPOY but Lebron was 2nd, both lost to teams who would go on to lose in the Finals.

5th Playoff Run

MJ wins 47 games, hit the famous game-winner over Ehlo to get past Cleveland in the first round, but again loses in the Bad Boys Detroit in the 2nd round.

Lebron wins back to back MVPs behind league-leading 61 wins even though he had to play PG for most of the season due to injuries. Beat DRose and the Bulls in the first round but lost in the second round to the Celtics who would go on to lose to Kobe in the Finals.

Win - Lebron - won b2b MVP. Both again lost to teams who would lose in the Finals

6th Playoff Run

Bulls promote Phil Jackson, Bulls win 55 games but lose to the Bad Boys in the 2nd round for the 3rd straight year.

Lebron holds the infamous Decision and takes his talents to South Beach. Miami wins 58 games. LeBron finally gets passed Boston, beats that year’s MVP DRose in 5,  and then meets Dallas in the Finals. Just for context, to get to the finals Dallas beat the Blazers, the KD, Westbrook and Harden led OKC in 5, then SWEPT the defending champs Lakers and Kobe. Miami would lose to the Mavs in 6, in LeBron’s most highly criticised moment of his career, unfairly IMO as many forget the context.

Win - Lebron - beat the reigning MVP, made Finals.

So, to summarise so far, if we take the first 6 playoff runs of both MJ and LeBron, same ages, no rings. MJ has 1 MVP, 1 DPOY, & ROY. Best result - 2nd round LeBron has 2 MVPs & ROY. Best result - Finals twice. Never lost in the first round. Win through first 6 seasons - Clearly LeBron.

The next year both MJ and LeBron win their first ring. We all know the rest from there. MJ wins 6 of the next 8 season (1 n half of those years he retired and saved the world from alien invasion.. I mean played baseball) He then retired for a second time, came back, played 2 more seasons for the Wizards and never made the playoffs again. Best Teams MJ lost to: 3-Time Champions Bird’s Celtics, 2-time Champions Bad Boys Detroit, Shaq & Penny’s Magic, Nobody Bucks. Best Teams MJ beat: Older Celtics, Older Detroit, Charles Barkley 76ers, Older Magic’s Lakers, Old Drexler’s Blazers, Ewing’s Knicks, Young Shaq’s Magic, Barkley’s Suns, Reggie’s Pacers, Stockton & Malone’s Jazz.  LeBron goes on to make the next 9 straight finals, winning 3 of them, 1 against the 73 win Golden State, coming back from 3-1 in the finals for the first time in history. If we are just comparing teams it’s pretty even. MJ probably has more great teams he beat, but he never beat a team like the Spurs or that GSW team. Magic was 32 and won 3 titles. Spurs won 5. Lebron beat them (and lost to them) in their prime. MJ beat an old Celtics team, so did Lebron. They bost lost to and beat Bad Boy Piston teams.  But MJ never faced a team like the GS Warriors team. No team MJ faced had 2 current MVPs on it. 3 of the greatest shooters of all time. 

Just for the record, IMO, Jordan is the Greatest of All Time. He was so far ahead of his competition and the players of today are standing on MJs shoulders.

LeBron is the Greatest of My Generation and is probably #2 all-time. You can’t deny his longevity, his all-around game, athletic ability. The main knock on LeBron is his lack of willingness to take the final shot, YET has more makes/attempts at go-ahead baskets in the last 5 seconds than anyone in NBA history, and makes a better % than MJ, Kobe or anyone else of note.

While it may seem like Westbrook isn't the perfect fit for Lakers, who are ranked 24th in 3-point attempts and 21st in 3-point percentage last season and may not want someone who is known for struggling from three, he does fit as the secondary playmaker they've been looking for. The 9 best NBA rookies in the preseason, ranked

These were the most impressive rookies in the 2020 NBA preseason.

What a strange time to be an NBA rookie. The global pandemic wiped out the NCAA tournament, prompted a virtual combine, pushed back the draft nearly five months, and canceled summer league. Most rookies entered the preseason without playing in a competitive game since March.

In spite of the circumstances, there were a number of rookies who put together eye-opening performances in the preseason. Is this a small sample size aberration for what was widely considered a below average draft class? Or is this class going to be better than most people thought? While that question will take years to answer, it will be fun watching the rookies get thrown into the fire against the best players in the world only about a month after draft day.

Here are the nine rookies who impressed us the most during the preseason. We’ll check in on this rookie class again later in the year.

9. Theo Maledon, G, Thunder

In our first 2020 NBA mock draft, published the day after the 2019 draft, we had Maledon projected as the No. 3 overall pick. Instead, he ended up sliding all the way to the fourth pick of the second round on draft night after an injury-plagued year with ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne. In the preseason, he looked like the player we thought he might be at the very start of the draft process. Maledon popped off for 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field in his preseason debut, then scored 11 points against the Bulls in his final preseason game. His three-point shot looked good (he made 4-of-9 attempts from deep), and his length is going to be an asset defensively. OKC is in developmental mode, and Maledon and first round pick Aleksej Pokuševski (who also had several flashes of brilliance this preseason) both look to be a big part of the franchise’s future.

8. Deni Avdija, F, Wizards

Avdija was projected as a top-five pick for months before slipping to No. 9 on draft night, where the Wizards were happy to scoop him up. Considered a ‘jack of all trades’ prospect, Avdija flashed his unique versatility for a 6’9 forward in the preseason. He went off for 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting in his debut, but it’s his ability to play in transition, find open spaces as a cutter, and hit teammates with passes that helps him standout. The spotlight will be on his shooting. Through four preseason games, he hit 5-of-11 three-pointers (45.5 percent) but only 2-of-5 free throws.

7. Tyrese Maxey, G, 76ers

Maxey somehow fell to No. 21 on draft night as teams questioned his three-point shooting and facilitating skills. It’s very possible he looks like the steal of the draft for Philadelphia a few years from now. The 6’2 guard is a terrific scorer off the bounce, using body-contorting finishes around the rim and floaters when he can’t get all the way there to stockpile points. He’s going to be an instant-impact change-of-pace guard for the Sixers this year who can provide a rim-attacking complement to Ben Simmons (or James Harden) or give the offense some juice on the second unit.

6. Malachi Flynn, G, Raptors

The Raptors selecting Flynn at No. 29 instantly seemed like a beautiful marriage between player and team. Flynn’s four preseason games only confirmed the suspicion. The 6’1 guard looked great in the pick-and-roll, hit 7-of-17 shots from three-point range (41.2 percent), and provided physical point of attack defense. Head coach Nick Nurse has already praised his poise and competitive mindset, which is just part of the reason why he feels like a particularly good fit for Toronto scheme and development system. Don’t be surprised if he’s a legitimate contributor off the bench as the rookie.

5. Isaac Okoro, F, Cavaliers

The Cavs were the worst defensive team in the NBA each of the last two years, so selecting Okoro — the best defensive prospect in the draft — with the No. 5 pick made perfect sense. While the 6’6 forward was impressive as ever on that end during the preseason, it’s his offense that looked shockingly ahead of schedule. Okoro’s biggest weakness coming out of Auburn was his outside shooting ability, but he sank 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) shots from deep during Cleveland’s four-game run. If that shooting ability translates to the regular season, the Cavs will have themselves a foundational two-way wing and one of the very best players from this draft class.

4. Patrick Williams, F, Bulls

The Bulls provided the biggest surprise of draft night by calling Patrick Williams’ name at No. 4 overall. While he didn’t start a game at Florida State, Williams did flash impressive rim protection skills on defense and spot-up shooting on offense while being the youngest American player in the draft. What’s been surprising about his preseason debut with the Bulls is how comfortable he’s looked with the ball in his hands. Williams tightened his ball handling and looked fluid flowing into pull-up jumpers. Arturas Karnisovas’ first pick with Chicago is looking like a good one.

3. LaMelo Ball, G, Hornets

It’s hard to take your eyes off LaMelo Ball. Now officially listed as a 6’8 point guard, Ball plays with an unmatched creative flair, often seeing plays before they develop and throwing passes few others would even attempt. It was on full display in the preseason. Ball tossed perfect alley-oops to Miles Bridges, hit threes when defenses went under the screen, and whipped his signature full court passes for easy buckets. Ball will struggle to score efficiently (he shot 26 percent from the field, but he’s already reinvigorated a stagnant Hornets franchise with his vision, pace, and youthful energy. Even if the Hornets don’t win much, Ball’s highlights will be must-see every night. It’s still hard to be believe two teams passed on him.

2. Cole Anthony, G, Magic

Anthony entered North Carolina as a consensus top-three recruit and projected top pick (by us, at least) but an inefficient and injury-plagued freshman year pushed him down to the Orlando Magic at No. 14 on draft night. In four preseason games, Anthony looked more like the blue chip recruit than the struggling freshman we saw with the Tar Heels. Anthony hit 8-of-17 attempts from three (47.1 percent) and looked explosive going to the basket. His shooting is going to be so much more dangerous than it was in college, and that makes him a wonderful complement to Markelle Fultz in the Orlando backcourt.

Vassell already feels like a perfect Spurs player. The 6’6 wing lived up to his reputation as the best pure 3-and-D prospect in the class during the preseason, hitting 5-of-10 shots from behind the arc and grabbing nine steals in only three games. Aside from great team defense and efficiency on spot-up opportunities, Vassell also flashed a little dribble pull-up game. He’s going to look like a tremendous value as the No. 11 pick in the draft.

NBA City Editions: 2020-2021

I didn’t make one for 2019-2020, but I may make one in retrospect when I have time.

City Editions are hard to top each year–shoutout to the various teams among these franchises working with Nike to make this possible. While this is a critique, I can’t knock their hustle in creating new uniforms each season.

Miami Heat: While it’s not even the best of the Vice editions (Vice, Vice Nights, Sunset Vice, Vice Wave), every launch and surrounding visual and piece of merch has been stellar--each Vice launch even had their own unique secondary colors! Sunset Vice with the orange, Vice Wave with the highlighter yellow, Vice Versa with the lavender...besitos. It’s so Miami and it’s an excellent case study on marketing and design. I also like that the last of the Vice editions is called Vice Versa–so clever. 

Brooklyn Nets: They have no excuse to run out of ideas. Basquiat (and former owner Jay-Z’s love for his art)? FLY. Basketball is an art form–the court is the canvas. I also think this opens doors for teams to collab with brands and estates; I hope one in particular comes true if you read all the way through this piece. 

San Antonio Spurs: FINALLY a City Edition! They kept passing their Military Appreciation Night jerseys as City Editions–I was hoping they’d mix it up this year, and did they ever! I love the ode to the Fiesta Spurs logo and warmups of the 90s. The court steals the show–fit for the Alamodome! 

Phoenix Suns: FINALLY a City Edition! Much like the Spurs, the Suns kept passing the Los Suns uniforms as City Editions. While one can argue that the Camelback Mountain grid pattern is similar to past Nuggets and Jazz uniforms, the Suns did something fresh, new, and exciting for their franchise. I also like the font used for “the Valley” across the chest. While Kelly Oubre on a horse is one of the first photos I saw of the jersey, he still gets to rock a fire uniform with his new team this season. 

Toronto Raptors: I love that the Raptors returned to their notable font of the 90s with last year’s City Editions, and that they continued on the same path this year. There isn’t much info on the new editions yet, but I’m assuming that the underline represents a claw mark. What will further set it off next season is if they use the 90s Raptors font to spell “North.” 

Golden State Warriors: They listened to their fan base and got it right. Dub Nation faithful were upset that San Francisco was on Warrior jerseys last season, though the players never wore Oakland on their chests during their years at Oracle or in the town in general. 

Los Angeles Lakers: A nod to Elgin Baylor during season 75 of the NBA. An ode to the land of 10,000 lakes. I love honoring our older legends while they’re still here. I also love that the jerseys are icy.

New Orleans Pelicans: New Franceeeee! Much like the Spurs and Suns, the Pelicans kept passing older concepts as City Editions. New Orleans is known for so much more than Mardi Gras, and I love the new approach to classic French roots. 

Minnesota Timberwolves: It’s simple, but clean. The North Star also fits their brand. 

Charlotte Hornets: again, simple, clean, and on-brand. 

Portland Trail Blazers: I like the homage to Native Americans and the Portland Oregon sign. 

Memphis Grizzlies: Tennessee as a state is known for music, but most only think of Nashville and country music. Memphis was home to Stax Records, a staple in soul music. The Stax logo is the inspiration for the font across the chest. Two of Stax’s biggest artists were Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes. I love the concept and the reveal video (below), so yes–I can dig it. 

Los Angeles Clippers: I had them in the flames column last year, but this year is stacked. I still like the Old English font though. 

Chicago Bulls: it’s giving me Chicago the Musical, Gilded Age, Roaring 20s vibes. I love it. The design on the sides reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Washington Wizards: alternate logo!

Sacramento Kings: Their best city edition yet, but I don’t understand the checkered pattern making a comeback. I guess it was all in chess. 

Utah Jazz: Houston Astros/Red Rock formation, but make it black. 

Orlando Magic: I like the throwback to the original Magic font, but the orange (while it is the state fruit) is an overkill. 

Cleveland Cavaliers: would be eh but it is creative. Colin Talboo deciphered the fonts for Cleveland’s ode to rock and roll; it features a range of artists from David Bowie and Nirvana to the Sex Pistols and NWA. Cleveland has a notable rock history, from hosting the first rock concert to being home to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. It’s a fitting tribute to the genre that put the city on the map. 

Boston Celtics: I love the take on the championship banners, but their banners are boring in design because old school. 

Atlanta Hawks: it pays homage to Dr. King, but for now, it just feels like his name on a jersey rather than a tribute. I wish they took a page out of last season’s OKC’s tribute to the bombing victims (the design on the sides of the uniforms represent the chair monuments at the National Memorial) and found a creative way to use MLK’s likeness or use the Ebenezer Baptist Church font in the unis. However, the stained glass court design is unique.

Philadelphia 76ers: It’s kinda weird having houses be the main focal point of a jersey, but the 76ers organization went a very unique route in paying tribute to Boathouse Row and their lights during the bicentennial. 

Houston Kings Oilers Rockets: The reveal video had nearly everything to do with the city of Houston but the Oilers (might be a Titans issue, but still). The Astrodome has been home to a great many things over the years–you have to give us more. At least throw a “Luv ya Blue!” reference in there or something! Speaking of the video as a native Houstonian, they left out a lot about the city, like how we have one of the world’s largest and best medical centers, or DJ Screw and other notable rap artists of the 90s, or how the biggest recording artists from the city were in Destiny’s Child. Being that Oilers colors are now on a basketball uniform, the look gives me Sacramento Kings vibes. 

Denver Jazz Nuggets: the color is of the Denver sunset, but it doesn’t help that the Jazz already had red and nature as prominent themes in past City Editions.  

Oklahoma City Thunder: It’s doing a lot of things, and it’s hard for me to make the connection to Oklahoma City. 

Milwaukee Bucks: The Great Lakes remind me of Michigan more than Wisconsin. 

Dallas Mavericks: beautiful play on Pegasus but it doesn’t really have anything to do with Dallas.

Indiana Pacers: It feels like something they’ve worn before. Maybe the FloJo font on this would set it off? Idk. 

Detroit Pistons: IT’S BORING. The whole thing is boring. Retire it after this season. Alex Breeder designed some concepts–if the Nets can partner with the Basquiat estate, and if the Grizzlies can pay homage to Stax Records, the Pistons and Motown can come together to make a Hitsville USA uniform. 

New York Knicks: So far, there’s no confirmation of this leak, but if this is truly the City Edition...yikes.

3 good things

1. I decided back in december to save $20 from each paycheck for my “fun” money. This money is gonna be spent on stuff like wizard world (it’s comin back to OKC this year!!), vacations, shopping, etc. I had to use it a couple weeks ago for an emergency, but it’s back up to $110. It felt really good to be able to add more to it this week.

2. The reason it’s at $110 instead of $120 is cuz I decided to splurge and buy myself some pepperjack cheese balls from S&B’s. I shouldn’t have done it, but god they’re sooooooo good. (also an order of them cost $3, so my pessimistic side can shut up)

3. I was stuck at work for an extra hour and a half because it was so busy. Haute Cash is the worst. But, my manager expressed how happy she was that I’d stayed. It would have been wrong to leave them when it was so busy, ya know? But it was really nice of her to tell me that she appreciated me staying late and working hard.

Официальное решение о возобновлении сезона НБА в Disney World довольно цинично коррелирует с уличными беспорядками в выжигаемой страстями Америке, �� это понимали сами представители клубов, но оттягивать голосование и в очередной раз пытаться подстроиться под переменчивую действительность уже не было возможности.

К такому заключению не сложно прийти, глядя на фактически единогласные результаты голосования: 29 клубов — за, и только один «Портленд» — против. Да и то, «Блейзерс» голосовали не столько против возобновления как такового, сколько против основной версии формата. Но теперь это уже частности, окажутся ли остатки сезона сладки, это нам еще предстоит распробовать, пока мы лишь знаем, что сервировать их будут следующим образом.

Возобновление чемпионата стартует 31 июля. Участвовать будут 22 команды, которые имели наивысшие показатели на момент приостановки сезона. Среди этих 22 — 13 команд Западной конференции и 7 команд от Востока.

Датой последнего матча финальной серии значится 12 октября. Драфт должен состоятся 15 октября, а подписание свободных агентов станет возможным с 18 октября. Драфт-лотерея (определение порядка выбора на драфте) для команд, не участвующих в плей-офф, запланирована на 25 августа.

Возвращение НБА — это, безусловно, круто, но сразу же надо понять, что вопросы возникать непременно будут и вопросы преимущественно неприятные. Например, как в случае с этими великолепными 8 матчами, которые должны сыграть все команды. Блистательно, но как быть с тем фактом, что на момент остановки сезона некоторые команды сыграли разное количество матчей, а значит, кто-то будет в более привилегированном положении.

Недовольные точно найдутся, в такой ситуации едва ли могло сложиться иначе, но финансовые обязательства клубов перед спонсорами, огромные потери самой лиги, и начавшиеся было разговоры о том, что возобновлять сезон в момент очередного витка борьбы против расовой дискриминации — кощунство: все это не оставило НБА иного выбора, кроме как поскорее запуститься.
