Name: Matthew "Matt" Petracca
GENDER & PRONOUNS: Cis male, He/Him
AGE & BIRTHDAY: 34, December 19
OCCUPATION: Pediatric surgical resident
RESIDENCE: The Loft District, Skyline Lofts
THREE POSITIVE TRAITS: Outgoing, funny, intelligent
THREE NEGATIVE TRAITS: immature, absent minded, unreliable
Biography: tw: divorce, cancer
Matt grew up in Florida with his younger sister. He has a pretty normal childhood. He was close with his sister, who he was always over protective of. His mom was a dental hygienist and his father worked a boring office job and they fought constantly, but didn’t get a divorce until their kids were grown and out of college.
Matt was a smart kid, too smart for his own good. From a young age, he was bored and started acting out in class just to entertain himself. He was constantly getting in trouble in elementary school for trying to crack jokes and disrupting the class. He was labeled a problem child until the third grade when a teacher even considered that he wasn’t a dumb kid, he was just bored and couldn’t sit still. He ended up getting tested and being diagnosed with ADHD. After that, he was still the class clown, but at least he was able to sit still.
He excelled in high school, when he was finally able to take classes that challenged him enough to keep his brain occupied. And it was in his sophomore year honors english class that he met his first girlfriend. Despite Matt being the class clown that was friends with everyone, he was still awkward as hell when it came to girls. He asked her to go to the homecoming game with him, which was awkward and uncomfortable, considering neither of them knew anything about football, nor did they care about it. Thankfully, neither of them knew how to admit they didn’t want a second date, so they went on another one. This time it was to a bookstore, a place they were both comfortable in. What was only supposed to be an hour, turned into hours of them browsing the aisles of the bookstore, laughing and talking.
When it was time to go to college, Matt got into the University of Pennsylvania, with the plan to go premed. His girlfriend went to school in New York, and despite the fact that most high school couples didn’t make it past Thanksgiving break, the pair managed to make it work. It wasn’t uncommon for them to find the cheapest bus they could and see each other every few weekends, even if they spent the majority of the weekend studying together.
In college, Matt was a social butterfly, joining clubs and going out on weekends. He made friends everywhere he went, something that is still true today.
After graduating with honors, Matt took a year off to apply to medical school, and to focus on getting married to his high school sweetheart. They had a small wedding, promising each other they would have a bigger wedding to renew their vows once they both finished their schooling and had some money. Unfortunately their marriage didn’t last. Matt went to medical school in Massachusetts, and his wife wanted to stay in New York for grad school. They weren’t in a place where they could put their relationship first, unfortunately. And despite how much they loved each other, it wasn’t enough and they filed for divorce before their first anniversary.
Heartbroken from his divorce, he made his way through his first year of medical school. He was experiencing health issues, but he assumed it was stress from school and divorce, and told himself it would all clear up once his break rolled around. Unfortunately it didn’t and his sister forced him to go to a doctor to get checked out. After a whole slew of tests, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. As a result, he took a year off of medical school to undergo treatment and recover. Thankfully, he has been in remission ever since.
Matt has found his home in Chicago and he hopes to stay once his residency is complete. Thanks to his outgoing and friendly personality, he was able to make tons of friends, even though his job doesn’t always allow him to see them. And although he isn’t always the most present friend, he is the most loyal. He will drop everything for those he cares about, and do anything for them. And he’s sorry he didn’t respond to your text three days ago, he wasn’t ignoring you, he just forgot. When he has free time he is usually exploring the city, making conversation with anyone who is willing, and befriending the few people in town he hasn’t already.

STORY.
Manon Movska was born in the swirling, frostbitten splendor of Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union — before the city's grand transformation into Saint Petersburg. Raised amidst opulent chandeliers and the unrelenting discipline of the Mariinsky Theatre, she was the daughter of privilege, but she never once coasted on the weight of her family name. Ballet was not just her inheritance; it was her obsession. The sacred burn of muscle, the exhilaration of velocity, the whispered ecstasy of a perfect arabesque — Manon did not simply dance, she devoured movement.
She was beautiful in the way that nightshade is mesmerizing, or poison is sweet. Born to a prominent family in St. Petersburg, there was never a time in which Manon was anything but lovely, with her doe eyes and intense glances, the drape of furs across slim, pale shoulders. There were the dolls, the flowers, the dresses of silk and lace, but more so — the dance, the opera, all that which made Russia unique, all that which had built her legacy. Manon’s early life was a series of quick sketches, days spent training her craft, perfecting her physique and mind to morph into that which she admired. She saw Giselle in Chelyabinsk when she was five, and was struck by the fact that it felt just like a fairytale: something refined, elegant, and distant; something untouchable — and she wished to be that untouchable figure upon the stage, a ghost of impressions and techniques, modern goddess of blood and snow. It was in those moments of decision that her childhood fled from her before it had even begun and her cheeks lost their rosiness, beginning instead to frost like ice — like a girl who would rise, and rise, until she was so high that nothing else mattered.
Her choices pleased her parents. Her parents tossed their heads triumphantly at having produced such a wonderful spirit, calm and seemingly demure, graceful in all things. Manon, true to the Movska tradition, did not ever act as other children did: there was never an instance in which she was completely ordinary. To be a dancer, a ballerina, a weaver of dreams, one must sacrifice all: and she understood the word well. Sacrifice, to trade one valuable thing ( her childhood ) for something more precious ( her ambitions ).
She endured it all with dignity, a degree of careful humility innate only to the best ballerinas, and as the hours of dancing alone before the television became the sole priority of her waking hours, her parents piled their wealth behind her, an initiative for greatness. And so she became a ballerina in training attending an academy for the most gifted. While the worker’s children ran laughing through the streets, red hats and black shoes, she sat in the backseat of her father’s chauffeured cars, watching the world pass by, her aching, bleeding feet resting… waiting for another day at the bars, small face staring into her own eyes in the mirror. Arabesque, plié, grande jeté — repeat and repeat, until perfection shone in the sweat of her brow and the bruises on her feet.
Triumf, malenkaya koroleva.
From the moment she could stand, her feet were shaped into exquisite instruments of precision. Every morning began with grueling barre exercises, every evening ended with exhaustion, her young limbs trembling with both torment and triumph. Under the iron tutelage of Russia’s finest, she ascended from promising student to prodigious soloist, her talents eclipsing even the highest expectations. By her late teens, she had already danced across the great stages of Europe, moving from Moscow to Paris to Vienna, her name murmured in hushed, reverent tones among ballet’s elite.
Those years are a blur. Every great dancer remembers most vividly not the pain, but the glory, and when she was picked up by the Mariinsky Ballet immediately after her graceful reign at Vaganova, every moment of blood, sweat, and tears was worth it. One year, two years, five years — she was a prima ballerina of the world’s greatest stage; half queen and half goddess, fully ethereal in her allegros, her pirouettes. She commanded the stage in a manner that very few had ever before; bold yet delicate, striking yet subtle — and from all over the world her admirers flocked, to see her another time on that imperial stage framed in gold and ash. She was Juliette dancing to die, Odette dancing to live, every dream that men and women could have had, she could capture for them in a series of adagios. And so she did, and as she became more famous and more beautiful, her ambition only grew, and grew, until she believed that she could go down in history as Russia’s most prolific prima ballerina.
Even with her reign at the Mariinsky secure, with the world at her feet and Russia singing her praises, Manon found herself restless. She had danced through Moscow’s grandeur, twirled beneath the Parisian moon, spun through Vienna’s hallowed halls, and yet, it was not enough. She craved the unknown, the thrill of fresh audiences and untamed stages. Europe, America — these were not merely destinations, but new frontiers of adventure, challenges to conquer, theaters to command. And so, when the opportunity arose, she seized it with the hunger of an artist who knew that even the most glittering cages were still cages. She was ready to set the world ablaze with the fire of her movement.
Now thirty-two, Manon is more than a prima ballerina — she is a force of nature. She dances not with rigid precision but with raw instinct, her body an instrument of unfiltered passion. Sensual and unapologetically open, she embraces life as she does the stage: wildly, freely, with no regard for convention. Resilient, she rises from the ashes of every challenge, crafting herself anew with every performance, ever-refusing to bend to fate. There was a time, years ago, when she burned bright in an affair with Lena Finch, a flame that consumed them both before flickering into embers. But history lingers in every duet, in every glance across the rehearsal floor. As fate — or mere chance — would have it, she now finds herself in Willow Peak, Chicago, a soloist and principal dancer at the Joffrey Ballet Company, where her former lover also graces the stage. Their bodies move once more in tandem, their past whispered in every pas de deux. And yet, Manon does not dwell on yesterday; she is too busy dancing her way into eternity.

CHAPTER THREE : STORY .
𝓲. vale was the second adopted child of her parents, two mothers that were so in love that all they wanted in life was a little bundle of joy to complete the family. her brother before her had filled her parents’ lives with so much love, but that little sweet thing — with wide, dark eyes and freckles across her nose — was a dream come true. saying that she was cherished was an understatement ; she was solid gold to the women that raised her, but that doesn’t always mean the best for a child that wants to spread her wings, to explore, to find a place in the world that feels so far away when she was wrapped in cotton wool. 𝓲𝓲. her friends were allowed to play out, to drink ( so long as they were safe ) , to attend parties and enjoy their youth, but vale didn’t know any of that. instead, her life was experienced as though she was watching through a window, speaking with no sound coming out. chicago was painted in sepia tones, and the same journeys to and from school, and then to work, felt as though she was in her own version of groundhog day. the same postboxes, the same crack in the concrete, the same crossings that never seemed to turn green. when her parents suggested looking at colleges, she jumped at the chance ; not only could she study something she was passionate in, but she could break away. there was only one problem. vale wasn’t passionate about much at all. 𝓲𝓲𝓲. and so she applied to the university of chicago. she took up a few minor classes, but was never able to find something that truly stuck — a student home in willow peak was the only reassurance that she had made the right decision when she started unpacking her life, from a cardboard box. every night was spent on facetime to her family back home, and vale had to grin and lie through her teeth in order to convince them that things were going okay, that she was loving her studies, her journey to become a doctor, or a veterinarian, or a lawyer … whatever she could pull out of her imagination. none of it felt truly right. when she could, she took the first job that seemed to be hiring lonely, clueless, inexperienced college attendees ; morning glory. 𝓲𝒗. that was it. the smell of freshly roasted beans in the morning, the swirl of baking pastries that enticed even the hardest shelled businessmen. vale learned on the job quickly, and was soon inscribing everything you could think of onto the top of cappuccinos — hearts, fruits, little animal faces — all to brighten the days of the regulars. she started experimenting with flavours, mixing syrups and researching different roasts online from ecuador and europe and the deepest depths of the world. whatever had captured her was more than just caffeine. it was the opportunity to speak to people every day, to exist in the world of another for just one second, to learn of the greatness of the real world, the color, the joy. 𝒗. vale deferred her place at the university and, although she continues to insist that she’s going to go back, some day, the reality seems to be slipping further and further out of her grasp. instead, coffee cups fill it, and she spends most of her time on shift at morning glory speaking to the regulars or trying to coax newcomers to try the updated house blends. the real world still feels big, scary, unfamiliar but, now that she is settled in willow peak, there is an abundance of opportunity to explore, latte in hand.

Name: Yekaterina Jacobovna Smythe Belikova Bloom Nicknames: Kate, Kat, Feral Kat (only by Simon), kitten Marital status: Married to Simon Bloom Occupation: journalist/erotic novelist Hometown: Chicago
Intro:
(TW: Mafia, toxic parents, mentions of inappropriate age gap)
You can never be overdressed or overeducated – Oscar Wilde
It was a mantra the Belikov-Smythe family lived by. Anastasia Belikova had sunk her claws into Jacob Smythe in order to grow her family’s criminal empire in a grander sense. The Belikov family owned large chunks of real estate in Chicago, almost a monopoly on luxury. Everyone knew without knowing: they were mobsters. The Vor Bratva’s Pakhan was Anastasia’s father, Damien Belikov, a man known for his brutality. Anastasia set Jacob up for her father to catch them, thus pressuring him into marriage and securing permits whenever and territory for the family.
While Jacob and Anastasia despised each other, their children were the ones who suffered. Yekaterina was the surprise conclusion to the children, the unplanned surprise they hadn’t intended to have. With eight years in age difference between Kate and her brother, she was the last child in the house by the time he went off to college.
Since she was young, Kate had been pressured into image. Anastasia had discovered this ‘late in life’ baby gave her the perfect do-over. While all three Belikov-Smythe children had access to the finest education money could buy, Kate’s education went deeper. It included charm school, language tutoring, and the like, but it also included her mother attempting to teach her how to swindle people the way she had.
At the age of eighteen, a bomb was soon dropped on her: she was expected to marry for the sake of the Bratva, to a man more than twice her age, and move to New York.
After having her entire life mapped out for her and having no say, Kate decided her best bet was to run. She was able to fend off the agreement for marriage for four years to give herself a taste of freedom in college. She graduated with honors as an English major with a minor in Classics. In her time at Stanford, she discovered a secret society of the upper schools across the country made up of sororities and fraternities called the Viper Society.
Her (first) reality shift, however, came in form of Murph Bloom. A night of bantering at a party led to a three-year long relationship resulting in her standing up to her family and stating she would not be marrying the inappropriately-aged man.
Her second reality shift came in form of a years-long battle with her own upbringing in regards to shame and sex. According to her mother, sex wasn't to be spoken about, only wielded as a tool. And wield it, Kate did. She began writing on a blog anonymously about things she herself had done, along with stories she had heard from others. The blog began gaining traction under her pen name "Alice Noughton", a rebus for "Anonymous."
During this time, she met Murph's very married brother, Simon and became his TA at Stanford University. Her third and most striking reality shift came upon realizing she had fallen in love with him. When Murph proposed to her, she said no and the two broke up.
Kate was soon approached by a publisher with an offer to publish her blog posts into full-length erotic novels. Soon, "Alice Noughton" became "KD Simone."
Months later, she reached out to Simon, her now ex-boyfriend's very separated brother. A couple of years later, the two of them got married in a courthouse ceremony.
Because things could never be simple, Kate was soon called home to Chicago to deal with her family. Their agreement was simple: Kate was all but excommunicated. In exchange, she was left alone.
Currently, she works as a journalist for an online magazine creating quizzes.

full name: antoinette "nettie" parker. occupation: part-time assistant to amara manoban, part-time swim instructor at the community pool, night school student for hospitality management. residence: sycamore row. pronouns: she/her. sexuality: bisexual (prefers women). age: 31. positive traits: hardworking, resourceful, bubbly. negative traits: stubborn, self-sacrificing, controlling.
content warning: parental death
BIOGRAPHY:
for a really long time, nettie parker's life was not her own. she is the eldest of four siblings, and after her youngest sibling was born, their mother passed away. when nettie was thirteen, she stepped into a care-taking role for her younger brothers and sisters.
she held this role all throughout her teenager years and her twenties. she helped with things around the house, she watched her younger siblings, she contributed to bills, and she tried her best to help her father give her siblings as as normal a life as she possibly could
last year, her youngest sibling turned 18 and officially left the house for college! not all of her siblings ended up going down that route, but they are all settling into their adult lives and have achieved some measure of financial stability
her father encouraged her to move out - he's been encouraging her to move out since she was 25, but she knew that he couldn't handle her siblings on his own. however, with all of them being self-sufficient, she finally decided to take the leap
she's pursuing a degree in hospitality management because she would like to run her own hotel or inn one day. she's been working in hospitality since her early twenties and she's developed a strong interest in the work. she started out cleaning rooms, and is proud of the strides she's made, but she knows she needs a degree to get to where she wants to go
she loves working for amara. part of her is scared to branch out on her own, because she knows she'll never have another boss who's as supportive and kind, who she genuinely wants to help with things. their work partnership has become something of a safety blanket for her in her adult life.
rent is steep and she's still sending her siblings and father money from time to time, so she also works part time at the community pool. she's honestly actively looking for a different part time job, this one is. not very glamorous</3 lots of kids pee in the pool so </3
she's still adjusting to life on her own! she's a little insecure about being 30 and not having crossed as many milestones as her peers due to her responsibilities, but she's looking to begin living life to the fullest and prioritizing herself
QUICK FACTS/HEADCANONS:
nettie loooooooves amara. she doesn't even want to think about a future that doesn't mean working for her, even if it's her ultimate goal to open and own her own hotel/inn one day. amara is the best boss she has ever had, and she secretly considers her a friend too
she has a big sweet tooth! she's a really frugal person overall, but sometimes she can't help but splurge on a tasty treat...
she's really handy with household repair jobs. she learned how to fix a lot of things b/c they had a really shitty landlord growing up. A/C broken? floorboard loose? cabinet off its hinges? she's got you
she's had romantic relationships with women and men, but the ones with women were a lot more meaningful and intense. she lowkey doesn't trust men
she keeps in close contact with all of her siblings - she talks to all of them at least once every few days, oftentimes more. she misses them fiercely even though their leaving meant her independence

full name — Alec Bodhi Flynn
faceclaim — Nick Robinson
gender & pronouns —cis man, he/him
age — 28
birthday — 8/23/1996
sexuality — disaster bi
occupation — bartender at Tarzan's Bad Trip
residence — elmwood flats unit #1
length of time in willow peak — all his life, with occasional bouts of traveling throughout
tldr. tw: mental illness, drugs, alcohol, child neglect (full bio can be found at the bottom of the intro)
alec is a chicago (and willow peak) native. he’s been cutting it up in these streets since day one. his mother suffers from manic episodes and would often leave him alone for days on end and go cause havoc around town. so locals probably know the name ‘daisy flynn’ and they probably don’t get warm and fuzzies when they hear it. his dad is totally unknown to him
with the freedom of having absolutely zero structure growing up, alec fell into partying. he taught himself how to play the guitar, and as he got older, he used that to his advantage. he started a band, was surprisingly good at writing songs— the only time anyone caught a glimpse of emotional depth— and settled into his role as the heartbreaker
alec really thought the glory of high school would last forever, even going as far as buying a van with the intention of touring for the summer between junior and senior year and every summer after that. only, he never clued his bandmates into those plans and they actually had parents that gave a shit, so instead, he turned it into his home. eventually, inevitably, they were evicted from their apartment when his mom went off the deep end for a little too long, so he sort of had no choice
for all of senior year, alec lived alone in his van that he lovingly named ole bessy. it was about halfway through the year that he realized people were making plans outside of willow peak. college, jobs, settling anywhere that wasn’t here. but alec liked here, and he didn’t really understand everyone being so hellbent on leaving
abandonment issues settled in and alec sort of became a nomad. once he graduated from high school (somehow??? like, good for him, but i genuinely don’t understand how he did it) he left chicago to travel in his van. he played shows, settled in places for just long enough to start to feel those attachments grow and then he’d take off again
he’d roll back into town from time to time, but when he inevitably messed up, he’d leave again, coming back only when enough time had allowed to dust to settle. and the cycle has repeated itself now for years
headcanons.
alec has undiagnosed dyscalculia. he doesn’t realize that numbers don’t jumble around in everyone’s heads the way they do his. it makes him feel stupid, so he tries to avoid math situations, or anything that has anything to do with numbers.
alec can be very self-absorbed. it’s not because he’s a dick, it’s just because he’s always too aware of himself to see things from any other perspective. he’s covered up his need to be loved and accepted by fooling himself into believing everyone loves him the way he loves everyone else. it’s a fun line to walk.
because alec largely had to parent himself, there are a lot of things he misses that should be obvious, but just aren’t. he genuinely doesn’t ever go out of his way to hurt anyone’s feelings, but he definitely has left a string of heartbreak in his wake. he just doesn’t know how to let people in, he doesn’t understand that his inability to love isn’t the same for everyone else. he just expects that people feel the way he does about things.
he writes really good fuckin’ songs. you would never know he is the same person listening to his songs versus meeting him in real life, but it stems from the fact that he never learned how to deal with or regulate his emotions, so he channels it into his song writing
alec is a very physically affectionate guy. his love language is physical touch so it’s not weird or out of the ordinary for alec to be touchy.
shambles is his best friend and roommate and he will cut a bitch when it comes to her, pacifist or not
wanted connections.
childhood friends - some that he still keeps in touch with, maybe some that are starting to get tired of his shit. maybe some that have been tired of his shit for a while
bandmates - new or old. he’s been back in town for a little while now, so he’s had time to get the band back together (or welcome new people into it)
exes - alec is not known for his faithfulness or for being a good boyfriend. these would have likely ended badly and they wouldn’t have gone on for very long. or maybe a few ended up friends. who knows
hook ups - a guy has needs. and those needs don’t need strings. it can be complicated with unrequited feelings or it can just be a casual thing that just scratches an itch for both parties
antagonistic - enemies alec has made, people that liken him to his mom who is still around causing trouble, people that feel he’s done them dirty. maybe past employers he’s left high and dry. people he owes money to. anything!
honestly, up for ANYTHING. might add more as they come to me, but let’s just throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks.
full bio.
Alec Flynn was born a free spirit. As a child, he was always questioning everything: who decided we have to go to school five days a week? Why is ‘because I said so’ an acceptable answer? Why do we have to wear shoes? We’re inside! (Alec was regularly in trouble in school for taking off his shoes). For a minute, he tried the Scouts thing, but ultimately it wasn’t meant to last. He didn’t do well with structure or a chain of command. He constantly questioned authority and pushed his limits as far as they would go and then some. He’d say he quit, but it was, at the very least, a mutual parting of ways. It was probably for the best, though. Being raised by a single mother who followed her every whim and regularly left her too-young son alone, sometimes for days on end, while she ran off with a new boyfriend or chased a new high meant that money was so tight it was basically non-existent. Just like the father he never knew. God forbid they spent any of that money on him.
He found his stride a little more once he hit high school. Being musically inclined since he could talk suddenly seemed a lot more interesting to his peers once puberty hit. Alec loved the attention and he leaned fully in. He started a band with a few friends. People knew him. And for the first time in his life, he felt seen. That kind of feeling went to his head. He was a serial dater, the heartbreaker, and he really fell into the party scene. With his friends at his side, he felt unstoppable, untouchable. The band found its groove and they owned the school. Or, at least, in Alec’s mind, they did.
The insecurities began to creep in around the middle of senior year. He’d never been much of a planner, content to only acknowledge what was right in front of his face at any given moment. But Alec began to realize, as everyone finalized their college and future plans, that he’d never really given it any thought. He liked what he did and what he had here, so why change it? But in the back of his mind, it did cause panic, listening to everyone plan to leave Chicago behind.
Leave him behind.
Alec grew a little more reckless after that. He partied harder, he wrote songs with a frantic edge. He thought maybe if he could just get lost in the life, it would never abandon him. But in the end, he watched people he adored and people that adored him scatter to the wind after graduation.
On a whim, he’d purchased a van with money he’d managed to scrape together. It was an absolute piece of shit, but it was his piece of shit. It’s original intention was to go on tour— a notion he’d had but hadn’t clued his bandmates in on until after he’d already bought it— but when he was slapped with an eviction notice after his mom had been gone on a bender for weeks, it became home.
For years, Alec did his best to outrun the bad feelings. Abandonment issues, who? Alec was simply a free spirit. It was in his DNA after all. His mother had never been able to stay in one place, and with a home on wheels, why shouldn’t he do the same?
So it became something of a routine. He’d roll back into town after staying gone long enough to be missed, for whatever misdeeds he’d released on Willow Peak to be forgotten or at the very least swept under the rug. And then, when he inevitably messed up, he’d go again to start the process over once more. It kept him safe and it kept others safe from him. That was a lesson he’d learned from his mother who had become something of a fixture on the streets in Sycamore Row, becoming the town’s burden instead of just his.
He’d like to stop running. Of course he would. But everything catches up to you when you stop moving. And he’s not ready to face those things just yet.

full name — Samuel Bloom - exclusively goes by Murph
faceclaim — Adam Brody
gender & pronouns —cis man, he/him
age — 42
birthday — 12/9/1982
sexuality — hetero, sad but true
occupation — unemployed
residence — #512 Lakeshore Drive
length of time in willow peak — since mid-November
tldr. tw: divorce (full bio can be found at the bottom of the intro)
murph is called murph because it was a running joke all his life that he was cursed with bad luck. so instead of allowing murphy to be a name that haunted him his entire life, murph decided to simply make it his identity. people can’t make fun of you if you do it first!
he’s the oldest of two boys and the least favorite. his family is the loud rambunctious type and the gene seemed to skip him. he liked comic books and robots and listening to obscure indie bands in his bedroom. so he got pushed onto the backburner a lot in favor of his brother who was the big man on campus with his sailing and his hundreds of friends and his endless charm
he was born and raised in the san francisco area but went to college in southern california for a change of pace and for a chance to not be in his little brother’s shadow. his studies were in coding and game design and it was nice to feel like he was finally excelling at something
after graduation, he got a job at a fairly big name gaming company. but as it turned out, he was less passionate about designing games than he was about playing them, finding that app development was actually more his speed. he took a leap of faith and left his steady job for a start up company where he managed projects and teams. it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do, but he felt like he was getting on the right track
because he can be something of a workaholic, his romantic life suffered. until it didn’t. he met someone who was like his opposite in every way— much more like his brother than him— but he thought their differences was what made the relationship so solid. she pushed him out of his comfort zone, which he needed. eventually, with her support, he left the company to venture out on his own. with an old college acquaintance eager to invest, murph put together his own team and finally was at a place where he could bring his ideas to life. he didn’t have to manage anybody else’s projects for the first time and could focus solely on his brainchild: sidequest— an app with a very easy-to-use interface that connects people for odd jobs. it’s a little more complicated than that but i’m literally just a girl, so pretend there’s really cool techy stuff here that blows your mind <3
riding the high of a particularly big breakthrough, murph proposed to his girlfriend on a whim. she said no. which would have been fine because, if he thought about it, their shelf life was likely reaching its expiration. what he wasn’t prepared for was her confessing that she was actually in love with his BROTHER
like, yeah, sure, it made sense when he thought about it because he was always the spare Bloom, but damn??? right in front of my fruit salad???
anyway, that sucked a lot. but at least he had his app!
oh, except wait. he didn’t. because that investor “friend” of his? well, he got dollar signs in his eyes and saw an opportunity to take credit for all of murph’s work. and with some ironclad contracts with shitty little fine print that basically said he already owned anything and everything murph created using his money, he was forced out. but at least they cut him a check, right?
honestly, murph was super bummed out. he had a shit ton of money but nothing really to show for it
that’s about the time he met valley. he really didn’t think he had anything to offer anyone and he was too scared to put himself out there again just to get chewed up and spit out so soon after he’d already been thoroughly wrecked. but he kind of didn’t have a choice. she was persistent in the beginning and so beautiful and charming and he honestly never stood a chance
he fell soooooooo hard for her. like the sun rose and fell with HER. he realized he never knew a single thing about love until he met her because nothing else quite compared. and for five years, they were very happy
and then fuckass george had to get involved. valley’s shitty ex husband reached out to murph and told him everything, sent proof of certificates and pictures and all kinds of things murph couldn’t explain away. it destroyed him to think that, once again, he’d put everything into something that turned out to never really be his in the first place. he was in a sort of state of shocked numbness for a long, long time. anger came way later and he never really asked any questions of her or got any answers. she was just here and then she was gone
he allowed himself to wallow for a while, and even after he picked himself up and did his best to move on, the people closest to him could see that he needed to be forced out of his rut. enter: willow peak. it’s quieter, a big change of scenery. and there’s definitely nothing there that could possibly remind him of his ex wife!
i am sorry that this section is called tldr and i basically just rewrote the entire bio but with bullet points. if you’ve made it this far, i luv u
headcanons.
when murph and valley decided they wanted a dog, they went to the shelter and asked for the dog that had been there the longest. they adopted her sight unseen and came home with a very scruffy terrier mix that they named fig
he is SO clumsy. it’s cute and it’s sad. like a big puppy that doesn’t know how to control it’s limbs yet
he has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and he tends to lean on that in social interactions because talking to people is both hard and overwhelming so if he’s making people laugh then he’s winning
was raised in a jewish household, but he's more non-practicing
he and valley were both not big on holidays, so they created a 'merry happy whatever' tradition every year where they made their not-holiday into whatever they wanted it to be
wanted connections.

full bio.
Murphy’s law states anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
For Samuel Bloom, that adage was a lifestyle. And a name.
It was meant as a joke— calling him Murphy. A nod to just how wrong everything always seemed to go for him. But Sam adopted it, made it his own. If he couldn’t beat them, then he would join them. And so, he became Murph.
From the beginning, it was clear that Murph’s younger brother was the favorite. His parents weren’t mean, they didn’t treat him poorly in favor of his brother, but it was still there and still obvious all the same. His brother was the sports guy, the charismatic one, the friend magnet. Murph… well. Murph liked comics and robotics, he liked finding solutions to problems in unique ways. He was just wired differently and so he never took it personally when he’d have the house to himself for a long weekend during one of his brother’s away games. Or when they chose to sit in on a football game instead of his first robotics competition.
College felt like a new beginning. Maybe there Murph could be the guy who won. He wouldn’t be recognized as the Other Bloom. He was the only Bloom. And for a little while, that was true. He made some friends— a few of which he still has today— and even had a string of girlfriends. Most of those were fleeting and none of them were endgame level serious. But it was still a little life he cultivated for himself. And it was one that he was proud of. He was pursuing coding and video game design, both fields something he believed would only evolve with time. He wanted to evolve with it.
And so, he did. He got a job with a modestly sized company right out of college. It was a decent job, paid the bills just enough that he could afford a studio apartment and dinner at least two nights a week that wasn’t instant noodles. And then he slowly moved up the ladder, small raises here and there affording him an apartment with actual rooms and dinner not from a cup any night he wanted.
Eventually, Murph realized his passion lay not with video game design but with app development. As the market for that grew, so, too, did his ideas. When an old college buddy reached out to him, offering a job at his startup company, Murph took a leap of faith. It was slow going in the beginning, and had it not been for his savings, he might have returned to studio apartments and cup noodles, but eventually, they hit their stride. It still wasn’t quite where Murph wanted to be— managing teams rather than bringing his own ideas to life. But it was still so clear that he’d found himself in the right field, so he took the wins where he could.
Seven years of growth found him well. He’d upgraded his one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom house in a nice little neighborhood. It was more space than he needed for himself, but eventually, maybe, he’d fill it with a family. That part of his life was slower-going. Perhaps it was because he had never quite learned how to split his time, prone to bouts of inspiration that he’d have to work through until it was spent which meant long days and nights in the office. Apparently that was not a recipe for a fruitful marriage.
But then he did meet someone. She was his opposite in many ways. She was loud and friendly where he could be withdrawn and shy, she loved to go out and meet new people when he preferred quiet nights in. She shook him out of his comfort zone and he tethered her to earth. It should have made sense. For Murph at the time, it did. And she was different from the others: she stuck around. She became part of the family, finding her place among them easier than even Murph had. In many ways, she was a lot like his brother, the magnetic type that you couldn’t help but be drawn in by. And she encouraged him to reach for more.
So, two years later, he did. In 2016, he took another leap of faith— this time he bet on himself. He had an idea for an app that he believed was missing in the market. Something with an easily navigable interface that could connect people with small jobs or other needs. He called it SideQuest, a nod to his love of games. He found an investor in the form of an old college acquaintance and secured himself a team. Not having to worry about the money aspect, Murph threw himself into his work. Watching his vision come to fruition might have been the most exciting thing to ever happen to him, and on a particularly good day a year into development, he decided to take another big leap. He asked his girlfriend to marry him.
He wished he could say that the worst thing she told him was no. No he could have handled with grace. No would have made sense when he removed himself from the situation and really thought about their compatibility. But it was so much worse than no. Because, as it turned out, she had fallen in love with his brother. Honestly, he should have seen it coming. He’d been the Other Bloom his entire life, it just made sense that two beams of light might intersect and leave him lost in the shadows they cast. When they got engaged only a year later, it crushed him. Even as he realized that he’d never felt an ounce of the passion for their relationship that he had for his job. It was only that that kept him afloat, throwing himself into his work in a full tilt.
Until that was taken from him too. His friend had seen the potential for SideQuest, and with the work on it mostly done, Murph was strong-armed into parting ways with the company. He had no financial stake in the company and iron clad contracts stated in fine print they had the right to claim his work for their own. Technically, they didn’t owe him anything. But they were ‘gracious’ enough to cut him a very sizable check. One that could have meant he’d never have to work again.
He felt defeated. And when he met a beautiful woman in a bar, he was wary, guarded now in ways he’d never been before. He was uninterested in putting himself out there to be ruined again. But she was persistent, and in the end, he was weak. She made him realize that he’d been wrong to think that anything he’d ever had before could have held a candle to love. Real love. She fit seamlessly into his life, breathing color back into his world. He allowed himself to be swept away in her current. They married, even beating his brother down the aisle, and for five years, they were happy.
And then, he learned the truth. It was hard to believe she might have invested five years of her life just to take half of everything he owned, but it was impossible to ignore the proof. And it made sense, in the end.
Because he was Murph. And anything that could go wrong, would.
Anything that could go wrong, did.

HISTORY ;
rowena olive kuzmich — otherwise known as simply ro by her peers — was born on december 31, 1998 in frederick, maryland to yegor, the ukrainian-american gang boss of the kuzmich crime family and ada (née thompson), an infamous english head chef. the two met at the latter’s workplace at the white oleander, a fine dining restaurant and immediately impressed by how delicious the food was, yegor requested to meet the head chef. their chemistry was instant and despite her older brother, david, warning her to not get romantically involved a gang boss, she didn’t hesitate to pursue him. they got married a year later after ada became pregnant with rowena and even though yegor ruled with an iron fist, it was clear that ada had him wrapped around her little finger.
while she never had to worry about not being able to get by thanks to her immensely privileged background, rowena had little to no friends growing up that were genuine, as she was often surrounded by children who were using her to get close to her father or to be on his good graces. although her parents both agreed to keep her and her younger siblings, gregory and cate, ignorant to the truth about her family, rowena was no fool — it didn’t take much time for her to figure out that her father was not a good man and that her mother was not much better either. nonetheless, all she could do is shield her younger siblings to the horrors they committed until the veselov’s, a russian crime family and their rivals, infiltrated their home and killed them all in cold blood while rowena and her siblings were at school.
after their funeral of their entire paternal side, the kuzmich children were sent to live with their late mother’s brother, david and his family, comprising of their aunt, jill, and their older cousin, lea. they were placed in the same boarding school as her, which affected each sibling differently. the change was tough on rowena at first, but as she got older, she began to appreciate the fact she was given the chance at a life that wasn’t so isolating, but the same couldn’t be said for gregory, who fell in with the wrong crowd at a young age and became a rebellious, troubled child. by the time she got to high school, rowena became enamored by crime shows and novels like the girl with the dragon tattoo and the law & order franchise, which inspired her to want to become a private investigator.
in order to pursue her dream, rowena transferred to james madison university in harrisonburg, virginia and took a part-time job as a secretary for the garnet mysteries agency secretary, an all-women p.i. firm, and aided them in their cases to the best of her ability, learning how they investigated and solved them. even though she had to fight for her place amongst them, they eventually welcomed her in with open arms and she began to see them as her second family. they even attended her graduation ceremony and gave her a standing ovation, introducing her to their associates at vanguard investigations in brentwood, tennessee during a case. sensing the unwavering potential in rowena, they offered her to take her in as a junior private investigator.
although it wasn’t an easy choice for her to make, rowena decided to accept the opportunity and move to tennessee. however, it quickly became to her that she would have to prove to her new boss that she deserved to be there, as he believed she was too naive and idealistic to have what it took to be a true private investigator. after three years of working blood, sweat and tears in numerous cases, rowena was given her first serious case in collaboration with the bpd — they have been investigating the prism fan network, a model agency within the porn website, divine ecstasy, that they suspected was a cover for a sexual trafficking ring. rowena’s job as to go undercover inside the agency and find as much evidence as she could find to bring them down.
when she was first informed of what she would have to do, she was hesitant as to whether this was how far she wanted to go to prove herself. she wasn’t the most sexually experienced either, having only been in two relationships throughout her life, which made her question whether she could really pull this off. in the end, rowena decided to go ahead with the job and took on the identity of a college graduate named tara, a young woman who was desperate to pay off a large sum of debt. once she was hired and the alter ego of felicity was born, her mission truly began and at first, it didn’t seem so bad, but what started off as simply chatting with fans quickly turned into prostituting herself on camera. the following two years were incredibly difficult, but rowena still persevered.
by the time she was about to break down and ask to be pulled out from the job, rowena befriended lucia modesto, a thirty-three year-old woman who was tricked into joining the prism fan network when she was only nineteen and had a fourteen year-old daughter named eleonora, who she raised by her lonesome. heartbroken by her story, rowena became determined to help her and nora escape back to her homeland in brazil. unfortunately, her reckless pursuit for evidence to do this got her caught and lucia was brutally murdered before the police came in and arrested everyone involved. the experience mentally scarred rowena and the guilt over not being able to save her began to eat her alive. nonetheless, she took it upon herself to become nora’s legal guardian and promptly quit her job.
wanting a better life for nora and to start over again, rowena moved the two of them to the willow peak neighborhood in chicago, illinois, where she also got a job as a barback at the willow tap. while the move was very much needed, she is having a difficult time adjusting to such a large city, especially as people began to recognize her, but she does her best to not pay attention to it. as rumors about her spread around the neighborhood, rowena has built walls of stone around her heart and hasn’t confided in anyone about what truly happened during that time, not even her own family. her focus is on giving nora the life her mother never got to have, hoping that will ease the guilt eating at her heart, but when no one is looking, she turns to drinking to ease the pain.

FULL NAME: Elliot Mason
NICKNAME(S): El, E (both probably by close friends/family)
FACECLAIM: Nyle DiMarco
GENDER & PRONOUNS: cis male, he/him
AGE & BIRTHDAY: 33, October 10th, 1992
OCCUPATION: ER Nurse at Windward Medical Center
RESIDENCE: Sycamore Row, Maple Lane Single Family Homes
Family: Parents, Siblings (3, wanted connections), Sawyer Mason (daughter, four months old, born September 2024 )
Sexuality: Pansexual
Languages: American Sign Language, English (written only, doesn't speak)
BIOGRAPHY:
( TW: pregnancy, slight mention of child abandonment & ableism )
Elliot was quite the surprise to his parents, while they were very much trying for a baby, finding out that their son was born profoundly deaf after he was born was quite the shock. And while they could have taken it hard, his parents jumped right into action, enrolling their selves in sign language classes, wanting Elliot to have access to that form of communication right from the start. They also looked into the Deaf Community, wanting him to be proud of who he was, and Elliot has been just that. Being deaf is something that Elliot is so proud of, his language, his culture, and being a part of the community. And because his parents did not hesitate from the start, his main form of communication is American Sign Language. Though he can read lips the smallest bit when needed and uses his phone to write back to people who might not know ASL.
His parents had always instilled a confidence about him, not an ego or being cocky, just that he can do anything that he sets his mind to. That he can do the same as anyone that can hear, that he is just simply down a sense but he had quickly learned to adapt to the world around him. Elliot did great in school, was in honors classes in high school, and played soccer, baseball, and even did track and field. Though when it came to a career for himself, Elliot was a bit stumped at first. But it was his nurturing nature that landed him on wanting to become a nurse. Which the fire was set even more under him when one of his high school counselors told him that might be impossible because he was deaf. So Elliot did what he always did, he set out to prove them wrong. Not only did he make his way through Nursing School but graduated towards the top of his class. It took a while for him to land a job, which he knew might be the case, but it was the ER that took him on no questions asked. That made things accessible for him, some of his co workers even learning ASL as well. And Elliot has been working in the ER as a nurse for years now.
Elliot had thought that was simply his life, working at the hospital, hanging out with friends and family, and simply being a dog dad. All things he was very content with. However, it was a text message four months ago that would turn his life upside down. It was his one night stand telling him that she had a baby, that it was his, and the baby, like him, had been born deaf. Not prepared to have a child and scared of what it might look like for her to raise a deaf baby, she told Elliot to come get his daughter. She signed over full custody to Elliot and now he has been raising Sawyer on his own. While it had been challenging at times, Elliot has stepped into his role as a dad. Knowing that he would do anything in the world for his little girl.
If he's not working or raising Sawyer, Elliot is the type of person who loves to be outside and doing something. A huge fan of working out, running, hiking, anything outdoor related that he can do. He is also a dog dad to two rescues named Lady and Hugo. Elliot is the sort of person that would give a stranger the shirt off his back, no questions asked. Right now, he's still trying to navigate the new world of being a single dad while balancing everything else. And truth be told, he couldn't be happier, truly living out the most amazing life he could possibly have.

drug addiction tw
Colby grew up in New York City, but has moved around a lot since graduating from NYU. She's insatiably curious about every aspect of life, and has a tendency to jump headfirst into situations without thinking.
She's an adrenaline junkie (and other, more serious types of junkie) and is essentially an uncontrolled wildfire.
That's who she is at her core, but she is currently trying to change. She's been sober for a year, and is doing her best to get her shit together and focus on her music.
Her sponsor allowed her to stay in his apartment while he travels, so she has someplace quiet(ish) to focus on her music. The apartment itself is quiet enough, and the neighborhood seems calm and quaint… but the city of Chicago is calling her name.
Wanted Connections:
people she knows from New York
people from NA or AA
people who know her sponsor (i haven't planned him out yet so this is super open!)
people in the music scene
anyone and everyone xo

religious trauma tw
this is harmony, but literally no one calls her that anymore. she goes by shambles, on account of an insanely controversial speech she gave at a charity gala held by her wealthy parents
she was a good little church girl growing up, and really wanted to do the right thing. unfortunately, she had no idea what the right thing was, so she just went along with what her parents said it was
she was pretty indoctrinated into the church and believed it was the right thing to do to get married to the first boy she ever crushed on. they were both 18 and had no idea wtf they were doing
she began sneaking out at night to head to south chicago and discovered that the people there were not actually demons, like her parents had said. they were good people (most of them), and they were free
there was a slow sanding away at her shiny naive purity and nobody noticed it happening until The Speech.
the chicago tribune called the whole event a shambles, and that became her nickname almost immediately. even if your character wasn’t there for it (it was about five years ago now) they’ll still call her that. it’s how she introduces herself
her parents cut her off financially and in every other way, and her husband got the hell out of there too, not wanting his reputation dragged down with hers
she lives in sycamore row and works at both cardinal diner and sharkeys, and wants to be a photographer
she still has hints of the sweet naivety she’s always had, but it’s got a patina of disillusionment on it now
wanted connections:
people who knew her/her family when she was a Good Girl
people who know her ex husband [he’ll be a wc of course]
people who saw The Speech
people who know nothing about who she used to be
friends, enemies, lovers, etc!!!

CHAPTER THREE : STORY .
𝓲. the youngest of the finch brood, jasper took well to being raised by his other siblings. with their parents away, he was often left in the more - than - capable care of his three elders. a solitary creature, jasper never caused much of a fuss — he was happy enough tucked away in the little worlds he created, with a good book on his lap or a pencil clutched between his fingertips. sport didn’t interest him, whether that was participating himself or watching it on television, a more creatively minded soul perfectly content with his own company as ophelia and the others entertained themselves on games consoles and chasing each other around the garden. 𝓲𝓲. it wasn’t noticed until their parents truly settled back into the pushes and pulls of daily life that perhaps jasper’s loner qualities, his introversion and his disdain towards certain meals that his sisters whipped up for him meant he wasn’t quite like every other young boy. in his early life those long silences had been filled with books and games that needn’t any players. diagnosed with autism at fifteen, jasper was finally able to unwind and unmask — although understanding why his brain behaved in the ways it did was, at the time, a seemingly endless task. he would have rather stayed and helped his eldest sibling bake, or nuzzle up in a blanket and create sprawling landscapes in his mind : with the support of his siblings and his parents, though, he soon learned that life didn’t have to be as scary as it first seemed. 𝓲𝓲𝓲. throughout his early teenage years, jasper fantasised about getting away and seeing the world. when his parents decided that they were going to up and move the family to willow peak, he welcomed the change of pace and scenery, a chance to start afresh in a land anew. it was far from what he was used to in manchester ; everything was louder, concrete, suspicious, but he took to the new landscape nonetheless. when his nineteenth birthday crept into view, he came to realize that the new country wasn’t independence enough, and so jasper decided that he was going to break away from the status quo. he found an apartment for himself, a job, and assimilated as much as he could into the unfamiliar. 𝓲𝒗. jasper is gay, and although he is timid in many corners of his life that’s one part of himself he isn’t prepared to silence. he is proud to be who he is, and will speak his truth even if his voice shakes. more than anything, he wants a love like the ones he reads about in storybooks. something that’s pure, something that’s true, something that’s whole and all encompassing. there’s no reason why he can’t have his own happily ever after. his favorite things in the world are hot chocolates and, yes, if you make it wrong he will tell you about it. there needs to be whipped cream and marshmallows for it to be acceptable, otherwise he can — and will — make a fuss about it. his palate is rather slim, but that’s his non - negotiable. every café in town knows him by name and hardly need to ask him what his order is before beginning to make it. 𝒗. since getting his job at the bookstore six months ago jasper has never missed a day, however most slow shifts are spent reading behind the counter or scrawling ideas for his own stories on the backs of notebook paper.

TW: Mention of Death
Out of the three Manoban siblings, Amara had always been the one to break the mold. The only girl in the family, she grew up under the shadow of her father’s expectations and the subtle weight of societal traditions. Her older brother, Arak, and her twin brother, Arun, were her constant companions —more like co-conspirators than siblings— especially since their parents were emotionally distant, always too consumed by work or appearances to spare much affection. Instead, the three of them had grown up with nannies and luxury, attending the best schools in Thailand and later abroad, but lacking the one thing they truly needed: warmth.
Their father, a successful businessman with a legacy to uphold, had instilled in all three of his children the expectation that they would eventually take their place in the family empire. Arak was groomed to lead, Arun to support, and Amara… well, Amara was expected to marry well and find happiness in a life of social grace, children, and obedience. But Amara had other plans. After graduating from a top university in the United States with her brothers, she didn’t return to Thailand immediately. Instead, she invested her savings in stocks, studied the market relentlessly, and launched her own business in Chicago. A bold move, especially for someone her father never truly believed in.
Though the distance sometimes strained their connection, her brothers secretly admired her resolve. Ethan would call late at night asking for her opinion on strategies, and Arun frequently sought her advice about handling clients. Amara didn’t mind staying in the background, even as they took credit for her ideas—it was a small price to pay for proving, if only to herself, that she was just as capable as them.
For Amara, Chicago wasn’t just a new start; it was a statement. She poured her heart into building a business that thrived on innovation and determination, fueled by the lingering need to prove her worth. The whispers about what a woman "should" do or "could" do no longer held power over her. Amara is carving out her own path—and she isn't just succeeding, she is thriving.

Amara’s world shifted four years ago when her mother passed away, leaving a quiet void in the family. Her father’s remarriage to a woman nearly half his age —a demanding and impulsive individual— only worsened things. The new wife often makes unreasonable requests, treats the family’s wealth like her personal piggy bank, and has a knack for stirring up drama. The siblings try their best to stay civil, but they won’t hesitate to put her in her place when she oversteps. These confrontations often lead to heated arguments, especially since their father, who once ran a tight ship, now seems incapable of saying no to his new wife’s whims. It bothers Amara deeply to see how much their father has changed, especially since he was so much stricter with their mother and them growing up.
Despite her blessed life, Amara remains incredibly grounded. She doesn’t like to flaunt, and most people who meet her wouldn’t immediately guess she comes from money. Her compassion and humility set her apart from others in her circle. She lives in a lovely apartment at Lakeside Terraces (#315) but avoids bringing business into her personal space. Instead, she keeps a room reserved at Magnolia Inn, a cozy and neutral space where she meets clients or new acquaintances until she trusts them enough to invite them into her personal space.
Amara quietly gives back to the world that has given her so much. She’s a dedicated philanthropist, donating anonymously to causes that resonate with her; whether it’s funding education programs, supporting animal shelters, or helping communities affected by natural disasters. While she doesn’t seek recognition, she finds joy in knowing she’s making a difference in people’s lives, even from the background.
Music had always been one of the few things in Amara’s life that felt entirely her own. Her parents had made sure she and her siblings had the best of everything—elite schools, world-class tutors, every opportunity carefully curated not just for their benefit, but for the prestige it brought to the family name. It was never about passion, only about being the best, about standing out in the right circles. And yet, despite the expectations, despite the pressure to perfect every skill for the sake of appearances, music had never felt like an obligation to her. The piano, the violin—those were hers. She loved the quiet solitude of playing when no one was watching, when it wasn’t about proving anything to anyone. Just her, the music, and the way it filled the empty spaces around her. Even dance, something she had long since stepped away from, still held a special place in her heart —a reminder of the rare moments where she was allowed to feel free, even within the carefully controlled world she had been raised in.
Over the years, she has become cautious about who she lets into her life. Having been taken advantage of by people who only saw her as a stepping stone or a wallet, she’s grown wary of others’ intentions. It takes time to earn her trust, but those who do find a loyal and kind friend. Amara values sincerity above all else, preferring to have a small circle of genuine connections rather than being surrounded by superficial relationships.

BIOGRAPHY.
Born in Dublin, Ireland - the third of what would eventually total four Macarthy sons - Ruairi ( 'Rory' he'd stressed time and again throughout school, eager to help anyone who cared to listen understand how to make at least a passing effort at not butchering his name ) - was a rambunctious and energetic boy seemingly from the moment he knew enough about anything to get into trouble. And, as luck would have it, he had a particular knack for getting into trouble that was only matched by his apparent gift in talking himself right out of it. He was genuinely sweet when he interacted with most people and between his good manners and even better grades, well, it was difficult for his parents to find a reason to discipline him too severely for his boyish shenanigans.
Being nearly the youngest of his brothers certainly never seemed to help matters - though he wasn't lacking in attention by any means, Ruairi seemed determined to get that much more in any and every way he possibly could - whether that involved placing first in a science fair in primary school with a robot he'd built from scratch or getting in trouble for getting into fights with local boys for picking on his siblings mattered little in his eyes. Attention was attention. His parents disciplined him as best they could and hoped that he'd grow out of that particular habit as he got older and, much to their relief, he seemed to the moment he was ready to attend University. They hadn't quite expected him to follow so closely upon the heels of his brother Lorcan who'd enrolled at Trinity College two years before Ruairi himself darkened its doors.
University was a delight for someone as insatiably curious as Ruairi had always been and he delighted in every experience he could take in - his courses, making new friends, enjoying everything that being away from home had to offer. He had some measure of supervision if he decided he wanted to spend any significant time with his brother but thankfully, in his mind, the elder Macarthy wasn't one to ride him too hard about what he was getting up to. When his brother graduated and Ruairi found himself left up to his own devices more often than not he began to spend time with an exchange student who would eventually become his girlfriend - Margaret Rourke. She was American, in the same engineering courses as Ruairi and he was head over heels for her just as soon as they met.
It was a whirlwind romance in every imaginable way and Ruairi was determined to enjoy every possible second of it. Though, he thought, perhaps his enjoyment went too far afield when Maggie told him she was pregnant a few weeks after they'd celebrated their first anniversary together. Ruairi was equal parts terrified and determined to be a proper father for his child and stepped up in the way he did just about everything else - with laser focus and the utmost effort. The prospect of fatherhood seemed to settle him down even more and shortly before they graduated from University, Maggie gave birth to their son Fionn. Another year passed that involved raising Fionn with Maggie, nurturing their relationship and debating the merits of enrolling in graduate school - something Ruairi finally committed to when he agreed to move back to the United States with Maggie - to be nearer to her family in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Living in the US was something of a novelty for Ruairi for at least two or three months but he was perfectly happy to balance raising their son, attending school, and working on developing an indie RPG video game with his best friend in his graduate program while he did so. Everything felt rather perfect and he made the quiet decision to buy Maggie an engagement ring as their second anniversary approached. As most things seemed to do when they felt all but perfect - they shattered in a fraction of a second when Maggie walked out on him and their son one night - explaining little more than the fact that she wasn't certain she wanted a family after all. Ruairi was heartbroken, to say the least, and tried his best to pick up the pieces and carry on as he always had. He couldn't very well fall apart when he had a child to look after and, much to his surprise, his ex-girlfriend's family still seemed more than happy to support him. When he finished his graduate program as class valedictorian he made sure to thank them first and foremost alongside his own family and his son.
Now, with school behind him and the pet project game he'd worked on during school having grown into something of a phenomenon - Ruairi was doing his best to give his son a good life above all else. Though still only in single digits - Fionn was just as wildly curious as his father though, thankfully, with none of Ruairi's penchant for trouble. There was nothing in the world Ruairi wouldn't give his son and he made sure to remind him at every opportunity. His life wasn't exactly where he'd expected it to be when it had fallen apart as Maggie left but he was relieved that he'd managed to land on his feet above all else and continued to put one foot in front of the other with his gaze forever towards the future.
