“I like it LOUD ... LOUD and GOOD. I prefer it that way.” That’s what I said. And to no one in particular. My voice trailed off, I found a new interest ... Wearing nothing but a grin and grey flannel boxers, my bare feet moving toward the door, I directed myself outside, to walk atop the sun-softened, night-cooled, moisture-dampened earth. Slowly ... quietly ... stepping ... bare feet slapping against the smooth stone, then wicking and wisping through anklet-grazing grasses … “Whish-whish” ... My toe rings spinning against the green-tufted blades, gently sweeping my heels along the freshly-mowed, dark-green carpet, arriving at it’s coolest spots without surprise, all to “tiptoe test” the May waters of our backyard swimming pool—my pathway to an annual refocusing ... my chance to restore, recover and renew—a blessed rebirthing of sorts; ALL beneath the heightened-heated-healing elements of Summer and its posse: water, sun, sky and ... self. Here in the darkened quiet of our peacefully-lit backyard, “Mama Nature” awaits my company again. She whispers at me through the trees, comforting me with her breeze, securing me with her shifting night sounds; and my childhood swimming pool ... patiently waits to become my playdate once again. Wearing nothing but a grin, and my grey flannel boxers, I gently dip my ringed-toes in ... beneath the blue-watered surface, flashes of silvery-painted toes of a deepened mauve. The sensation brings with it energy and emotion; rhythm and a thought: This pool will soon break my fall; this water will carry my weight and lift my soul. And from that moment, forward ...
